The Best Bakeries Around D.C. | Eater DC

"Fresh baguettes are obviously a point of pride at this mini-chain bakery by the same name. Bakers use a cold-dough process, house-made “levain,” and French baking equipment. There’s also a solid line-up of sandwiches, topped ciabatta, cake, quiche, flaky croissants, and seasonal specials like King cakes, with eight shops scattered across the DMV. The newest one just debuted by Lafayette Square. Online ordering here." - Tierney Plumb

Where to Find the Best King Cakes in D.C. | Eater DC

"This tidy bakery takes its king cake cues from the French galette des rois, showing off the puff pastry version of king cake instead of the brioche-based king cake. Indulge in the most traditional variety of this puff pastry dessert filled with almond cream and a splash of rum, or delight in the one filled with apples and salted caramel. Both cost $29.80 and are available at all three locations (Rockville, Bethesda, and Georgetown). Pre-order on the website." - Stephanie Carter

There’s a reason I love going to Paris – the amazing bakeries are everywhere. Fresh Baguette brings that Parisian bakery experience right here, with an incredible selection of both sweet and savory treats. Whether it’s a buttery croissant, a delicious éclair, a fresh baguette, or any other type of bread, they have it all. They are just one block away from the Cleveland Park Metro off Connecticut Ave NW. The bakery is open every day from 7 AM to 6 PM, making it easy to stop by for a treat. The store is always clean and tidy, and the staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. This place is a must-visit for anyone who loves authentic French bakery goods!

Amazing baguette, pastries, and staff. The interior design is contemporary and soothing (I love the white and shade of blue, so elegant). I love the fact that they make their bread base products on site starting early in the morning.

Thank you Jay for making our visit fantastic, he connected well with my mother in law and was exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable! The desserts were quite tasty and the coffee was a good strength! The croissants don't have the best lamination but the fillings make up for a good bit of it!

Stopped by on a rainy day because my usual place was closed for the holidays, and I was not disappointed!! It was so hard to pick from all of the different pastries and food they have to offer. Everything in their display looks absolutely beautiful! You can truly tell all of the care and effort that went into it. I ordered their iced latte (no add-ons), pastrami and egg sandwich, and their coffee eclair which comes in mini and full sizes. Everything tastes just as good as it looked. I’ll be frequenting this place a lot more now. They also have subscriptions for discounts on their food and coffee too. Normally, I’m not a huge fan of plain coffee and tend to opt for more sweet coffees, but this coffee was divine too. As a Starbucks addict, their coffee was far better than a Starbucks by a long shot! Absolutely fresh and tasty. There are not enough great things to say about this place.

Google
Well, I love fresh baked goods. I love their presentation. I love the taste of the goods. Although I personally like my Madeleine's the old fashion way, more cookie less cake. However, the croissants are beautiful. The customer service is great. The staff appears to have a good time with each other. At times, if I was going to work a new job, I might apply here. Customer satisfaction appears to be a priority, after baking of course.

Google
You got to love this… They asked me to write a review. I am very upset with their service so didn’t write a positive review. Then once I submitted, I get the message that it “will now go to the store owner to approve this”. Is this a joke? Obviously they will only approve positive reviews… Apparently the large cakes are 6 inches (see pic) which feeds 4 people, 6 if you get tiny pieces. And they didn’t even write my message on the cake. If this is normal, I will not ever return here again, just out of principle, as this is very deceiving.

Google
Excellent cafe! Wonderful, fresh pastries. Plus kind, helpful staff. It’s not a Starbucks so don’t expect grossly sweet coffees or an assembly line of workers. It’s a real bakery with careful consideration going into their service.

Google
Ripoff, avoid. I ordered a ham croquet. Pathetic for $13.75. The single slice of ham was paper thin and didn't even cover half the bread. When I showed the staff they said that that's just the way it is. Gotta love DC service!

Yelp
This place was lively for a Sunday afternoon! My husband and I came here for a quick bite before grocery shopping for Thanksgiving. The staff was lovely and quick and we were able to order and sit in the window while we ate. We split the Parisian and a ham/cheese croissant. The food was next level - really enjoyed both of them, fresh and delicious. The coffee was fine, nothing to write home about, but that's to be expected when going to a place called Fresh Baguette- the food should be better than the coffee!

Yelp
I'm so excited that Fresh Baguette has made CP its new home! (I've been to the Glover Park location, but happy to have one closer!) We really needed a good place to grab great delicious pastries and fresh baguettes in the neighborhood. Even though you may encounter a line, it moves quickly-- and is worth the wait! My almond croissant was light and fluffy and generous in size! You can take your items to go, or sit down at various tables. I'll be back to try out more of their items! I've got my eye on you, sandwiches!

Yelp
The bakery was crowded and there wasn't a whole lot of sitting room available as it was a smaller place but the line moved very fast and efficiently and we managed to snag a spot at the windows and enjoyed the croissant with views of the street. The plain croissant from Fresh Baguette was so light, airy, and most importantly.. fresh! Definitely enjoyed this place for a weekend treat!

Yelp
Excellent place to have a light sandwich packed with flavor. I ordered the Californian crogel and it was flakes and had great texture. The chicken was moist and flavorful especially with the bomb oregano spread... I subbed lettuce for the tomatoes since I don't prefer them on a sando unless I am in a mood. Haven't tried the pistachio dessert since I was full from the crogel and pineapple juice. Great spot for brunch... oh and my friends also loved their sandwiches. We ate the entire things lol

Yelp
New bakery in Cleveland Park. Good selection of breads and pastries but no cakes to my disappointment. Limited seating but tables by the front windows are quite nice.

Yelp
I had the privilege to attend the Mock Service for this amazing new Fresh Baguette location before next week's grand opening. As soon as I entered, I was struck by the bright, modern, yet cozy space and received a warm welcome from the manager. The baguettes and loafs looked almost too perfect to eat, the pastries perfectly crafted, and the sandwiches scrumptious. They also offered a wide variety of espresso drinks which is, unfortunately, rare for the area. The prices are also reasonable at $5 - $12 dollars on average per item. I enjoyed a Norwegian Cro'gel (a smoked salmon sandwich with a bagel shaped croissant bread) and a caramel latte, and took home a sourdough loaf. So excited to see them opening next week! I'm sure I'll become a regular.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this place because it's in my neighborhood, but the bread and croissants are completely tasteless. There are no baking aromas like in Bread Furst, and the products feel very mass produced. I looked at their pies for Thanksgiving, and the Dutch Apple, which looked pretty skimpy, was on sale for $50! I did have a sandwich there a couple of months ago, and it was good. The place is clean and the people who work there are friendly, but the bread is a huge disappointment. They're not in the same league as Sako Sako, across the street and Bread Furst in Van Ness.

Yelp
Excellent edition to Cleveland Park. Delicious breads, pastries and coffees. Looking forward to them sticking around.

Yelp
Good sandwiches but the black gentleman running the a.m. shifts gives the same pretentious energy you get from a college student who did one semester in Paris and makes it his mission to correct every English pronunciation in French words. Put the sandwich in my bag and let me move along with my day, sir. I do not care how it is pronounced.

Yelp
THE BEST! I've spent some time in Paris and didn't think to find an authentic French spot near me. I've always ordered on DoorDash and the food/drinks are delivered perfectly. I love that some of the pastries are mini as well, just as you'd find in a boulangerie. My one caveat is that the bread on the Parisian sandwich is very hard, or maybe I just received a bit of stale bread. Other than that 10/10

Yelp
Went for their early opening event. Beautiful space. Delicious pastries at reasonable price. All employees were kind and helpful. Nice addition to Cleveland Park.

Yelp
Food was quick and good and I was surprised the sandwich was served warm. Hopefully they get some outside seating soon. A/C was nice on a hot day, but.... -didn't see any menus or QR codes (which I'm not a fan of anyway) so had to look up the sandwich options on my phone -There were 3 open tables and all needed cleaning. Someone was sweeping, even asked me to lift my feet so she could get under my table, but never came around to address the tables. I ended up finding a napkin and wiping down my own table. -Sandwich was served on a thin paper plate, and you need two hands to pick it up and keep plate from buckling. Would be nice if they either got sturdier plates or stacked a couple to be more supportive. -And lastly, I know this is standard in America now, but I resent the credit card machine suggesting 18+% tip amounts and being asked to tip before any services are rendered. Especially in a place where you order and pick up at a counter and clear your own table after eating. But I tipped anyway because I'm always concerned someone may take out their displeasure on my food.

Yelp
I tried the bakery for the first time yesterday and asked for something vegan. They have a vegan muffin, Morning Glory, which I took out and had for breakfast today. It's fabulous and although I'd like more vegan options I know that's hard for a bakery. Also got a baguette and loaf of bread - both great. Bravo! Ginny
