Washington DC’s 12 Best Farmers Markets | Eater

"The pickles, kimchi, sauerkraut, and kombucha earn rave reviews, as do the crab cakes, flatbreads, and Greek phyllo pastries at this market near George Washington University. Cucumbers, green beans, carrots, and winter squash are some of the produce visitors will find. Stop here on Wednesdays from 3 to 7 p.m." - Vox Creative

Google
My local neighborhood farmers market since I went to college at GW! Super convenient right next to the metro, university, hospital, monuments, etc! Great produce year-round and some great prepared food vendors as well. This market had to close during the height of COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021 due to potential overflow space from the hospital, it is thanks to this community that it was able to re-open and thrive after taking a break.

The location is just beside foggy bottom metro station which makes it more convenient. Opened every Wednesday from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, small and local businesses or people sell their fresh produce ranging from jams, flowers, micro greens, meat, vegetables to fresh bakery, live food and local delicacies from around the world.

I was kind of disappointed by this farmer's market. Atwater's was the highlight for me. I love their bread. Other than that, I wasn't impressed by the produce selection or other vendors. At the same time, it's early in the season for some fruits and vegetables, so maybe I'll go back in a month or so.

This is a small farmers' market next to GWU Hospital and the Foggy Bottom metro station. It's had most of the same stalls there for at least a year. There are two vegetable/fruit stands, several hot food stands (Lebanese flatbread, pizza, & paella), a coffee roaster, a mushroom seller, a butcher, an artisanal ice cream stand, a couple of baked goods stands, and a sauerkraut & pickle vendor (No. 1 Sons--try the rye kraut). As that list might suggest, this market is very much aimed at people interested in grab & go items. Prices are somewhat high, but reasonable for the neighborhood. This market is only open on Wednesdays, and closes around 7pm.

Produce is not from farms. Most vendors are just reselling stuff they buy at the supermarket. Be aware of the soap vendor as I bought once and it was bad.

Yelp
3.5 stars. This market is good for what it is - a relatively small farmers market with a great location steps from the Foggy Bottom metro. There are generally about a dozen or so vendors who cover everything from fruit and veggies to fresh pasta, locally made cheese, bubble tea, and ready-to-go meals like paella and pizza. The zaatar pie booth is one of my favorites and is something different than the norm. If you're interested in prepared food this is a pretty good market. If, like me, you'd like a wider selection of produce, this might not be your top choice. But you really can't beat the location if you're in Foggy Bottom and everything I've tried has been high quality, so I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
4 vendors and everything was super expensive Blame the poor attendance on the heat but the trip was not worth it

Yelp
Love this cute farmers market! I was here last year and there were a handful of vendors, this market has blossomed to an array of vendors from Mediterranean spanokopita to Vietnamese coffee. You will find an assortment of produce, pastries, juices, as well as prepared food such as paella and my favorite...TIMBER PIZZA (it's at the very end - not on metro entrance). I recommend the Green Monster pizza and love the Chai coffee from Cassava.

Yelp
Located a minute away from Whole Foods Foggy Bottom and right outside the Foggy Bottom/GWU Metro. Just a handful of vendors at this farmer's market (expect about a dozen give or take). If you're looking for lots of options for produce and fruits, I would probably go to another (like the Dupont FRESHFARM), but if you're already in the Foggy Bottom/GWU Hospital area, take a pleasant stroll through the market. Luckily, No. 1 Sons (a.k.a the best kimchi in the District) sets up stall here on Wednesdays so be sure to stop by for some fermented goodness. Note: Tried the Spot of Tea bubble tea stand today and I would not recommend it. The bubbles were overcooked (mushy), over-sweetened, and just plain mediocre overall (think very much so homemade level, which at this quality level and price point you might as well just buy a bag of bubbles and make it yourself).

Yelp
Rather small farmers market with only one stall for produce. Great if you live in the area and just need a few things, but if you were planning on picking up a whole range of groceries you might as well just walk to Whole Foods (which probably would end up at the same price point). The vendors were friendly and many of them offered samples of their goods - such as fruits, gazpacho, spirits and other drinks, and some food items etc. Which is always a treat! All in all a pleasant market, but again, very small!

Yelp
I love this farmer's market. I think I would love it even if it only had one vendor, it's so convenient! I live so closer that I can drag my feet down the block to get fresh-from-the-field produce practically in my slippers. It's GREAT. One of my favorite things about living in DC. Fortunately, there is definitely more than one vendor - usually ten or so. It's not as big of a market as Dupont or Penn Quarter, but there's an ample selection of seasonal produce, pastries, preserves, cooked foods, meats (including both poultry, beef, and this year there's even bison!), freshly baked breads, and cut flowers. For a while this spring, there was a small table with the most amazing goat cheese from Cherry Glen, but they haven't been around recently. (Please come back! I'm hooked on that damn cheese!!!) There is definitely enough variety here to cook up a nice supper straight from the market, and it's fun to mix and match your ingredients between the different vendors. Prices aren't necessarily "grocery store cheap", but that's not why you go to the farmer's market. You go for really FRESH and HEALTHY food that comes from a local farm and not from a massive operation thousands of miles away... to me, it's worth the extra few dollars knowing that I'm helping a small farmer keep their farm running and producing high quality food for us to enjoy. I budget a certain amount weekly to pick up some nice greens and fruit that will last me 'til the next market. It's fun too that there is a new and different variety of produce available pretty much every week; keeps you guessing! The market is open 2:30pm-7pm on Wednesdays, April through November.

Yelp
Great location! I wish there was a greater selection of fruits, but everything looked fresh. The vendors were friendly and the prices were reasonable. Guess this will be my weekly stop on my way home from work! Too convenient to pass up.

Yelp
Great farmers market right off the metro. Don't forget to stop by the paella station for the BEST Belgian waffles.

Yelp
A great little farmer's market next to the Foggy Bottom Metro Station on Wednesday afternoons. This year, vendors have included 3 different produce people - one with a fruit, honey and jam focus, one with a good mix of fruit and veggies and Blueberry Hill, which has more unusual fruits (gooseberries and currents were available in the early summer) as well as staples. Between these three, you can pretty much stock your kitchen. You can also find a baker, a prepared foods vendor (Chris' Empanadas, haven't had but they're supposed to be good), a pasta vendor (had their sausage tortellini - very good), cut flowers, chicken & pork vendor, and Gunpowder Bison. The bison is delightful - a pound of ground costs $6, compared with the $5 you'd spend for a pound of good chuck, and it's a much leaner meat. The goat cheese vendor has left for the season due to staffing issues, which is sad because their cheese was to die for. Most of the vendors accept credit cards, but cash is always preferred. Prices at the farmer's market are high, but prices are always high at the farmer's market. Still, the prices aren't too outrageous and it's always worth it to support local foods.

Yelp
Definitely one of the smaller farmers markets from the same organization. Due to its size there didn't seem to be much off anything- just one vendor for produce, bread, two for specialty goods. It was pretty scant, but all I needed was bread. It's good for a quick shop, but I wouldn't suggest coming here if you like to wander around markets.
