The 17 Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants In SF - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Freshito in the Excelsior has the open space and sugar-heavy foods required to keep children entertained. Whether they’re mesmerized by the huge tubs of ice cream in the display case, or keeping a tantrum at bay with air hockey, they can fuel up on big cups of fresas con crema or a waffle cone before running everything off in the roomy dining area." - julia chen 1, patrick wong

Freshito’s snack foods are a full meal in disguise - Review - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"You can make a meal whatever you want at Freshito. The Excelsior spot’s wide-ranging menu means that stopping off just for a navy blue scoop of bubblegum ice cream is as easy as cobbling together a three (or more)-course meal with elote, a sandwich, and fresas con crema. While nothing is mindblowing, you’ll leave here satisfied. After school lets out and on weekends you’ll likely find kids pressing their faces against the ice cream display case and whole families hovering over the air hockey table, but there’s always a free seat. Important to note that Freshito now accepts cards after years of being cash-only. Food Rundown photo credit: Monica Lo Tosti Elote We prefer this version of the elote over the esquite—the added layer of tortilla chips is simple but effective. Prioritize this over anything else. photo credit: Patrick Wong Turkey And Ham Panini We wouldn’t come here just for this sandwich, but it ticks the right boxes—loaded with mayonnaise and cheese, but they don’t overpower the neat stack of meat. photo credit: Monica Lo Fresas Con Crema A generous amount of sliced strawberries suspended in a sour cream and cream mixture. A small size is easily shareable with another person, but we prefer keeping it to ourselves. photo credit: Monica Lo Ice Cream There is better ice cream in the city, but despite the iciness, any of the huge scoops are still enjoyable." - Patrick Wong

Very nice place and clean. Portions are pretty good sizing as well and super affordable. I got a banana split and it was pretty good.

Everything is so yummy and the ladies working there are so nice! My boyfriend and I love to come in all the time! Similar flavors to places like the michoacana!

Google
Horrible service. Walk in, No greeting, don't ask if we need anything or what we're having just look at you. They charged me twice and didn't apologize just asked if i wanted cash or Cc. Wouldn't give me receipt of what I purchased after their mistake. Waak!

Good service with fresh fruit and delicious snacks, they also have ice cream and raspados. They serve a few mains of sandwiches and the place has a seating space.

Google
Elote. Simple, delicious street food. Corn, mayonnaise, tahin, and cotija cheese. Very simple, anyone can make it. So when I bit into this one, I was immediately taken back by how hard one can fail at making a simple, inexpensive dish. Overcooked corn (mushy), flooded with excess liquid. Tahin and cotija are not mixed in but just left as a topping. Cotija cheese has an almost spongey texture. This also gives the dish a way saltier taste than it should. Could not finish. Had to throw away. I couldn't recommend going back there for any other reason, especially when a dish as simple as this, is made to perfection by a man in his truck only a block up the road.

Yelp
First time coming here since we were getting food next door and it was super good considering I've never really had this kind of dessert before. We got elote and fresas con crema and both were really good. The elote came in a medium sized container definitely with the price and the cup of fresas con crema was full of strawberries. Will be coming back next time I'm in the area

Yelp
3/1/2023 - lunch date with my seaSTAR. On our way to grab a fat burrito at El Farolito, we passed by Freshito and what caught our eyes were the sign that said "Elote." I've had my fair share of Elote from street vendors and SJ's flea market, but never have I ever had Elote elevated with a bed of Mexican-brand Tostitos. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? Where have I been all these years? I must have been living under a rock to never have tried "Tosti Elote." Crispy-crunchity (I know it's not a word, but it's my word that I like to use) Tostitos adds not only texture but saltiness that married harmoniously with the creamy and cheesy Elote. Dabs of "Veronica" sauce, chili powder and tajin added a slight kick (needed more chili powder). The only ingredient they didn't add was freshly squeezed lime juice. Thank goodness we had some from our burrito run. Although it's delicious, without the freshly squeezed lime juice, it's too heavy to eat. Portions are huge. I'm so spoiled with having my Elote made with freshly cut sweet corn so it came as a slight disappointment because Freshito seems to use frozen corn. It didn't have enough sweetness nor tenderness, neither did it have the burst of corn juiciness that you'd get from fresh corn. It would have been an easy 5 stars if they did use fresh vs. frozen. Sweet, salty, spicy, tender, juicy, crunchy, cheesy, creamy and acidic. This is what makes a fantastic Elote! Although it missed some marks, it still hit the spot.

Yelp
Sometimes you just need a mangonada. OK, maybe you don't need one, but I do. Even after a hefty lunch down Mission. Even after promising myself I'd watch my calorie intake before trundling my way home. But alas, Freshito beckoned at my weakest moment with their sidewalk sandwich board (photo: https://bit.ly/3NWjrXN). There was a highly visible picture of a mangonada, so of course, I peeked inside and was impressed to discover 26 similar treats on their menu. But number one with a bullet was... ...the $6.75 Medium Mangonada. The staff was chatting away at a booth, so I waved hesitantly at them for service. A woman constructed my mangonada with ease..,a big scoop of mango sorbet, chunks of fresh mango, chamoy, tajin chili powder, jabalina candy, and more chili powder (photo: https://bit.ly/3JkigxK). It was the right combination of sweet and spicy, and I sat myself on the sole plastic chair at the entryway. Back on my Excelsior journey. Oh dear, I forgot to input the calories into the MyFitnessPal app...or did I? MANGONADA - 4 stars...traditional mix of sweet and spicy,..could've used more sorbet AMBIANCE - 4 stars...yep, it's an ice cream parlor SERVICE - 4 stars....she didn't skimp on the serving size TOTAL - 4 stars...mangonada on my mind RELATED - Exploring the Excelsior? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/37B1acE

Yelp
What can I say, except yum yum yum. I got their crema con fresas (a complex strawberries and cream. It uses sour cream with evaporated and condensed milk which gives it a slight tang and is utterly addictive), and mangonadas. I liked the mangonadas slightly less because they used shaved ice that was quite coarse, but the flavor was on point

Yelp
If you're looking for a delicious snack or quick bite, come check this place out! I was craving esquites and my boyfriend came across this place on Yelp. Its located on Mission, next to El Farolito. We walked in and were greeted by the nice two ladies who were working. We ordered two esquites and a small fresas con crema, total came out to $17ish which is not too bad! They offer dine-in, so we sat and enjoyed our food. They really hook you up with the corn and they are not skimpy on the seasoning and toppings. I couldn't even finish mine and ended up getting so full after. For $5.50 you really get your moneys worth. As for the fresas con crema, the fruit was fresh and not too tart. I just wish they added more granola, but overall super tasty and not to sweet. Cravings were definitely satisfied! Cant wait to come back for more :)

Yelp
Got a raspado and a fresas con crema. First I tried ordering raspados mango, then strawberry, but they were out of both. I settled for pineapple. This is the first time I've had this -- the ice was too chunky, but flavor was good (if a bit on the sweet side). Light, fruity and refreshing. Like a snow cone but much more natural tasting with some fruit bits. 4/5 Fresas con crema: my friend ordered this, I didn't taste it. Feedback was that sauce was a little thin, and there were too many strawberries (?? I don't understand that one, who orders strawberries and cream and then complains of too much strawberry? Weirdo.) Menu was easy to follow, guy behind the counter was nice, prices reasonable. Parking in this area is impossible, btw. I'd come here again if I happen to be on foot and in the vicinity.

Yelp
A stroll through the neighborhood and their catchy name and sign posted of desserts caught my eye. They offer juices, crepes, elotes, ice cream, mangonadas, and fresh cut fruit. Yum. I've been here a couple of times and the last time being yesterday. The same man greeted us and took our order. They do practice social distancing and safety procedures. We chose the Fresas con Crema (strawberries w/ cream), Mangonada, and some fresh strawberry juice. You pick and choose which fruits you want in your fruit bowl and they'll chop them up in front of you. What I love about this place is not only their service but the freshness of the fruits and ingredients they use. Flavorful and delicious.

Yelp
Newly opened in the Outer mission area. Roomy inside with your usual suspects of Antojitos. Supporting local businesses during these time of pandemic. Currently cash only so maybe sure you have cash on hand and tip well too.

Yelp
Been passing by this place until I saw their sign outside with the fresas con crema. Service is great. Had a real mom & pop vibe. I'm glad they've opened up within my area. Came solely for the fresas con crema and was no disappointed. Super happy I don't have to drive down to San Mateo for fresas con crema now. The lady did not skimp at all on anything. Completely ecstatic that they've opened up. This place is great. Gonna keep coming back for that fresas con crema!!

Yelp
Delicious I had the prepared fresh corn in a cup with cream, tajin chili powder, and fresh crumble cheese queso fresco, the best elote. I also had the crepe with caramel they come with strawberry banana, but they also have more tropical fruits like mango

Yelp
I've been known to eat cold things on a cold day and this yummy treat was PERFECTO! The mint chocolate chip was fresh and the amount they give for the price, was good. Most waffle cones can be overwhelming but Freshito's was light and crunchy delicious. Most importantly, the ice cream went all the way to the bottom! A MUST HAVE So many other authentic treats turned into creative menu items so definitely going back!!!!

Yelp
Fair prices, mangonada and The crepes are good but crepes' presentation is not attractive at all

Yelp
I really wanted to like Freshito from all the reviews, but it didn't meet up to the hype for me. I got a fruit mix and a strawberry banana crepe. I was disappointed that the fruit mix only had 2 pieces of mango in it and some of the fruits were not yet ripe so were hard and tasteless. The crepe, while huge, could have been more balanced between the fillings and the actual crepe. I had way more than crepe than fillings. The worst part was my crepe had a piece hair inside.

Yelp
My boyfriend and were dying for ice cream or some type of dessert and we came across this shop. They were just about to close, putting in the sign and even turned off the "open" sign. We walk up and and the owner brought us in anyways. He was such a sweet and patient man. My boyfriend got the mangonada and I got A Oreo milkshake. THEY WERE BUSSIN AND ABSOLUTELY delicious and prepared with little wait time. We will be returning!

Yelp
Stopped by for an esquite (corn with cheese and tajin). It was delicious and the portion was generous. I was full after eating it. They have a lot of menu options so I will definitely go back.

Yelp
They recently just opened up their business. It was highly recommended to me by my uncle who took the family to check it out. First thing I noticed was the open and clean environment. We then were greeted nicely as we came to order our food and were given a brief description of what they serve. Over all the service was very good, even the owners were very friendly and gave us some samples. Let me tell you, I've tried various places that sell mangonadas and they were never that good, either their mango was too hard, or there was just more ice than mango, but this mangonada is just right, the mango is soft, sweet and fresh. The amount of chamoy put in it is just right. I tried a crepe from them also and it is very, very delicious! I recommend for someone looking for something to snack on, or simply satisfy that sweet tooth craving.

Yelp
Brand new spot in excelsior, kudos to them for opening up during a pandemic. Their Elote Picture caught my attention as I was walking by so I got it to go and the serving size is huge. So delicious and it reminds me of when I was a kid and after church my mom would buy me snacks from the paleteros outside. CASH ONLY for now so bring cash they mentioned they are working on getting card feature set up. Would go again to try their crepes next!

Yelp
I'm in love with their Vanilla ice cream, although it's plain and simple, it's actually really good. It's unrelated to what I'm saying, but the shape of their Ice cream scoops are very circular, and I love that! I think you should try it.
