Friedman's Hell's Kitchen

The location is great but the food and experience was average. The syrup portion was extremely skimpy and affected the taste of the pancakes. Their lunch and dinner menu seems worth a try so we'll see if that happens.

This place is the best brunch/ lunch place I’ve been to in NYC! the menu is diverse and offers dozens of options - our favourite is Nova Bennie (salmon eggs spinach huge hash brown). The stuff is so welcoming and the food arrives in max 10 mins! Can’t recommend it enough ❤️

We went soon after they opened but there were many people already eating both inside and outside the restaurant. We decided to sit outside, and it was very cozy but there was only one waitress who was responsible for outside seatings so it took us some time to get the check, which is when the restaurant got real busy. Make sure to get there early otherwise you’d wait to get seated. Saw a huge line by the time we left.

Friedman’s was a great option for us when we were looking for a solid breakfast spot that wouldn’t have crazy waits and had an interesting menu. That all being said, it was solid - but not particularly memorable. Service was good and not too overbearing and the food was good but not very memorable. Restrooms were clean and the outdoor seating (when the weather allows) is actually pretty decent. Would I return? Sure. Would I go out of my way to? Eh. Not sure.

Friedman's is an iconic brunch venue tucked away in the Hell's Kitchen. In close proximity to Hudson Yards, this establishment regularly delivers fresh entries and mimosas. Great for platonic relationships, a bit too noisy for business meetings and intimate engagements.

These French toast were a 10/10. Bread was very tender and very flavorful...I felt that with every bite I took the bread just melted in my mouth. Even the lady that was sitting next to us made a comment that they looked good and I'm happy to report that we ate every last bite.

Drawn here by the good reviews and photos of the food. Absolutely delicious and exceeded our expectations. We arrived late morning and were seated quickly at the bar, however there was an almost constant line after we arrived so expect at least a short wait (worth it!) The pancakes were so fluffy and came with REAL syrup which we appreciated as New Englanders. The Pastrami Hash was absolutely divine though the portion was a little big for me. I also ordered a latte which was very smooth. Service was great and would highly reccomend!!

I’d heard really great things about this place so my expectations were high. Whilst the staff were friendly & the interior was nice the food was very average. My eggs were also cold. I’m sure there are nicer places to go for brunch in NYC

Friedmans has been on my places to try for awhile and finally got a chance to come twice in a month! Came here for lunch. Recommend coming early as is is popular and gets busy and crowded... Service and food are good. Good variety of options to select from on the menu whether in the mood for breakfast or more hearty meal. Starters: Shared Korean Chicken wings as appetizers.. Yum - they were delicious - 7 big wings to share. Had the grilled chicken swisswich twice with fries... this is a big sandwich and good enough to share as well. Delicious as well. It could use a little more sauce as one half was a little dry both times. Fries were good. Food comes out in good time. They have take out boxes to carry home food you don't finish. Will have to come back to try some other items menu... they look good.

We walked in without a reservation and were seated pretty quickly. I started with a chai latte which was huge, definitely got my moneys worth there! For my meal, I ordered the omelette and added cheddar. It was delicious and came with home fries and toast. Next time, I'll be sure to ask for my home fries crispy as they were a little soggy. My friend has a gluten allergy and ordered the lemon ricotta pancakes which were GF. The pancakes were huge and she enjoyed them too. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and will be back!

Had a pleasant lunch here on a Sunday and thankfully didn't have to wait to get seated since it was pretty cold outside so I don't think a lot of people were out and about. It's somewhat spacious inside although some of the tables are really close to each other. Personally, I think Friedmans is a bit overhyped and I would never wait for a table because there's so many other good places for lunch/brunch in the city. I did like my meal (grilled cheese sandwich with mixed greens and tomato soup) but nothing was really stand out / incredible. Our server was super sweet and friendly though (the one with the caffeine tattoo on her arm) so shout out to her!

I tried the nova benny, which features poached egg, smoked salmon, and sautéed greens on top of potato latke. The ingredients balances each other out nicely and it was very delicious! We came here on a busy Saturday but the wait wasn't too bad. We were seated after about 15 minutes. Overall, solid brunch spot!

TLDR: New American fare. Probably one of the only reasonably priced places in the area. I'm down with the sandwiches. Turkey club, tuna melt or Reuben. Also, get the fries. I don't really go for places that look like this. Is don't really gravitate towards this type of food but in an area where everything is crazy expensive, Friedman's is that one beacon of light that offers tasty filling food for a reasonable cost. The tuna melt has been my jam. Crusty rye, melty cheese, just the right gooeyness. The fries are well-seasoned, crispy and I hate ketchup but they always accommodate and sub an aioli. The Reuben is solid too if you're in the pastrami mood. Juicy hand-sliced meat, tangy dressing, sauerkraut and that melted Swiss. Recently though, the turkey club. Cranberry aioli is something I would have gagged at the thought of years ago but I'm into it. Salty bacon, tender turkey, it's piled high and just got so much flavor. So yeah - I am a fan now.

We came here for a quick bite on Saturday around noon. Luckily we walked in before there was a line. Decor is fine. Staff is friendly. Food came out quickly. Taste is on the point. BLAT:8/10. Bacon is crispy; flavorful. Steak&egg: 10/10. I'm surprised how tender the steak is. I think this steak is the best of all Steak&Egg I've tried so far. Tender and flavorful.

This is definitely one of my favorite brunch spots to try! It was my first time at this location by the Javits Center, and it seems quite popular -- similar to the one I've visited in Chelsea Market. The menu is similar, but offers even more options. The food was flavorful without being overly salty. My friends and I each ordered our own dishes. Tthe service was excellent; the waiters were very attentive to customers. The atmosphere felt welcoming and somewhat spacious, although our table was close to the staircase, which made it a bit cramped. Overall, it was a great experience!

Me and my husband were in the area and decided to get some lunch. I've never been here before but it looked really cozy and lively inside so we decided to give it a chance. I'm so happy we came here because I was craving a really good salad and usually I avoid diners for salads but no more! The service was excellent although the restuarant was absolutely packed. Our waiter actually recommended this salad and I'm very glad he did. The salad here was one of the best I've had in a really long time and it was actually a really healthfully prepared meal. This is definitely going to be one of my go to spots for this area since it was no only delicious, it offered healthy options at a good price.

I enjoyed my breakfast here as I came with a friend this morning. The waiter recommended the pancakes and I was happy I ordered them as well as a side of eggs (cooked exactly how I like). I'm sometimes wary of lemon ricotta pancakes but these delivered. (7.5/10) I would definitely order them again! The Chai Latte was decent too (7/10) not too sweet the way I like.

Went here for brunch before a show with a crew of teenagers. Everyone found something they liked on the menu and they had some really good shakshuka for me.

I like this Friedmans location better than the UWS one since it's in a quieter area, but it does seem a bit smaller and more cramped. If you haven't been to a Friedmans before, it's somewhat overpriced breakfast/brunch food. Service was friendly and attentive, and the food came out relatively quickly. The lemon pancakes were somewhat of a miss; they tasted dry and while the citrus peels provided a tangy twist, the raspberries were underripe and bitter. Personally, I'm not much of a fan of pure/raw maple syrup and they didn't give much either. We also had the chicken and waffles, and while not bad, it was $29; coming from Dallas, I've had better for cheaper. Would pass on both next time. However, I'd recommend the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. It's very affordable (well, comparatively) and comes with a side of fries. The chicken is both crispy and creamy, likely due to the buttermilk, and almost sweet. The skin was slightly tough, but otherwise I'd order it again.

Great place for Brunch in Hells Kitchen in NYC. Great place to go and eat if you are attending a trade show at the javits or happen to be in the neighborhood. They do not accept reservations but the wait was not long.

Super friendly staff welcomes you at the door. Appetizers were deelish! The main entrees were superb! So flavorful and great portions. The atmosphere, while rustic and minimalist, had a very refined aesthetic to it making the overall ambience laidback and classy at the same time. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and our time here. And THE BEST part was dessert... an amazing carrot cake with a cappuccino.

I visited with his place when I was meeting my friend Alex during our lunch break. Although it looks small and cute from outside there is plenty of room inside. In the beginning I thought it was just a coffee place but when I saw the tables in the back I got more excited. Our lunch lasted for about 30 minutes. This time was enough to try the Pastrami Reuben. It was full of flavor and tasted clean. Pastrami is naturally heavy but I didn't get that feeling at all. I really enjoyed it. Service was also great. I see myself going back again.

I had four meals at Friedmans on a work trip. We were staying at the hotel next door. Chicken and waffles with hot honey one night, pastrami sandwich and matzo ball soup another night, shakshuka for lunch, and truffle eggs for breakfast. The ambiance is relaxed, and while the restaurant is small, they are cooking some very good food here.

Had a great visit at Friedmans! Service was friendly and fast, vibe was good and the menu is delish. Easy to walk in during the week after work. Happy hour cocktails! Had a tuna melt and it was great, love the gluten free forward menu, I really enjoyed it !

We came here for a quick brunch before our event at the Javis center. We were a table of 8 but the restaurant was able to accommodate us. From the menu I noticed a variety of brunch/lunch options. Most looked like it was gluten free or can be made gluten free which were great for the two people in our group that are gluten free. Everyone ordered a variety of meals and seemed to enjoy their food. For the table we ordered the Korean fried chicken wings and dumplings. The wings alone would be a 5/5 stars since they were crispy, seasoned well and delicious! The dumplings were also very good. For my meal I got the famous French dip sandwich. It was just okay. Lots of meat, bread was just plain roll but there was no real flavor. The au jus I expected to be packed with flavor but it was also bland. The fries were also supposed to be herb fries but felt there were lacking in the herbs (maybe some parsley spilled on). I heard the gluten free people rave about the lemon ricotta pancakes! I guess it depends on what you order here. Overall the service was nice and the food came or fairly quickly.

Food was meh the customer service was very poor. As a waiter you should always check up on the table and make sure they're ok not only when it comes it the check and tips. I live in Brooklyn and you would think the service out here would be great but it's not sadly. Future advice to the waiters try to have a smile more, make sure the customers feels welcomed and have a positive attitude everything felt negative.

I live very close to this location, so I've gotten a number of dishes from here, most of which I've enjoyed for breakfast. The pastrami hash and the salmon Benedict have been some of my staples. I used to also enjoy the shashuka... but I have NO idea what happened recently. It was so salty that it was basically inedible. They sent it to me again, and same thing. Kudos to their customer service for trying to remedy the situation, but it was ultimately not remedied because there's something wrong with the preparation. While "salt to taste" can be subjective, this was beyond debate. Just awful.

Out of all the Friedman's in nyc, I find the one that right around the corner from my apt in Hudson yards is the best one. My go-to order at this super casual joint is definitely the pastrami hash or the chicken and waffles but the rest of the menu is just as delicious. The service is always great and they always try to get me in even if there is a wait. FYI: they don't take reservations so on a weekend, be prepared to wait if with a big group.

Great spot to grab lunch without reserving a spot ahead of time. Being in a prime area, most spots required our group to call ahead of time and walk-ins were limited. We happened to stumble upon this joint while being at a convention near Javits Center. Love the Pastrami (Reuben) style - recommended by our waitress. That was my first New York Pastrami sandwich and boyyy. Looking forward to more pastrami sandwiches in my life. -Great staff, friendly and very accommodating -Great Brunch options -Pricey, but welcome to New York!

Great brunch spot with very nice service. I like this location and the one at midtown. Try their pastrami hash and lemon ricotta pancakes. Sit at the bar if you're dining solo or for 2 people to limit the wait time.

Amazing! Great spot for lunch! They offered many different options and I went with the buttermilk chicken sandwich, which was amazing! The ambience was very very busy and probably due to the Car show nearby. Overall, everyone in our party enjoyed the food minus one member not enjoying the burger. I will return.

My lemon ricotta pancakes were fantastic! The service was perfect coffee refills all of the time. Small and cozy with 15 tables. Close to the Javits convention center.

As a person who has celiac disease, I am so grateful for the opportunity to have a "normal meal" at Friedman's. I live several hours away, but every time I am in New York I have a meal here. My favorite: buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. The fried chicken is everything I have missed: crispy coating, juicy chicken, just the right amount of salty seasoning. I like the bread and butter pickles, but next time I'll try to remember to ask for dill, if they have them, crispy lettuce and flavorful tomato... you get the picture. Perfect fried chicken is one of the things I miss the most, and Friedman's always satisfies that craving. I'm already looking forward to my next opportunity to indulge in this rare treat. Thank you Friedman's!!!

Friedman's had a very good breakfast menu. There were a lot of interesting options. I chose the steak and eggs and it was delicious. I'm giving it 3 stars, however, because the food didn't stand out as amazing to me, and the ambiance was good, but the restaurant was a bit loud and hot. The service was great though. I think I need to try some of the more interesting things on the menu that looked delicious and maybe I could give it a higher review. Even though I rated it 3 stars, I would still recommend it.

I saw the reviews in yelp and I'm so glad I checked. We had breakfast at Friedmas every day of our stay in NYC. It was super close to our hotel in Hudson Yards. The food and the service were excellent and also great atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Big food portions, amazing flavors. I would definitely come back. The server was nice and attentive, our water pitcher was quickly refilled when it was emptied even though it was plenty busy in the midmorning. The restaurant was nicely decorated and was rather spacious despite the numerous tables packed everywhere. It gives off a pub feel even though most of its food is brunch themed. The lemon ricotta pancakes were very fluffy and were delicious with the raspberries.

I came to Friedman's for lunch with a colleague as I have not visited for some time ( previously brunch). As usual , there was a line out the door but as two , it was a quick wait . The menu is classic as well as the understated decor with friendly service . I went for the quinoa chicken bowl and my friend the Matzo bowl soup which she devoured. My salad was stellar as well with plenty of chicken which is always a pet peeve of mine . In sum , Friedman's is a go to for any meal : consistent , reasonable and excellent ( just be prepared to wait outside )

Food is good, the Asparagus Parmesan soup is delicious! Stephanie was nice and thoughtful. Waiting time was ok ~20 min

Easily accommodated a group of 5 for breakfast. Food was fresh and ample. The pancakes were excellent. Service was good. A great, local restaurant.

I am gluten free and my best friend is vegan so this place is a treasure! The service was great. The food is really good. I am so happy that everything is gluten free. Really made me smile. I will for sure return. Good service, good music, great food.

The food was absolutely delicious! I had the lox benedict and it was so rich and flavorful. It definitely hit the spot!

Be careful of the hours- they do not open early like a typical breakfast place. I enjoyed my Chai Latte, and the French Toast was good but not great.

Cheap & cheerful comes to mind. Compared to prices a few avenues over. Service is super friendly n food is amazing. Tuna niçoise was $20 w fresh grilled tuna. Most places give you canned tuna! The grain bowl was full of healthy goodness. Definitely come n try!

Easy access restaurant close to Hudson Yards and Javits center. We came for breakfast after attending the NYC marathon expo at the Javits Center. Food was fine. Nothing spectacular. Very tight space. Bathroom left a lot to be desired.

The best tuna melt I've had in New York! Got it on gluten free bread and it was perfectly toasted. Will definitely come back for this.

Came here on a Saturday around brunch time (12:30) and was able to get seated for a party of 2 pretty quickly. The inside had some pretty basic Western decor, it wasn't as ornate of a place as many others in NY but I appreciated that we at least had a comfortable amount of space. (3/5) Nova benny: This was probably my least liked item, it was just way too salty for my taste. If the smoked salmon wasn't so salty I would have definitely really liked it, the biscuit and spinach and eggs were all good! (4/5) Shakshuka: Actually my first time having shakshuka, so a little hard to judge. I liked the sauce, the eggs were perfectly runny and mixed well with the tomato sauce. Only taking a point off because the bread was really thick not enough for all the sauce, definitely would have liked it more with Pita. They did give us some more bread (for free) when we asked though. (5/5) Mac n cheese: Usually not as much of a Mac n cheese person, but I thought their was delicious! Great cheesiness and not too salty. Absolutely would recommend!

very very friendly staff and solid food! two of my friends and I shared 2 orders of the lemon ricotta pancakes and one of the sesame salmon salad, which was the perfect amount. service was very quick. our food came out within 10-15 minutes if i had to guess. if ambiance is important to you, maybe keep looking because the vibe wasn't so impressive. otherwise, id definitely recommend for the food and great service!

French toast is great. It's puffy, crispy and soft. Well balanced texture and sweet flavor. I love it. Fresh fruit add more freshness. Only downside is you may need to wait in line during weekends but the line moves fast. This is one of the places I normally bring my family with me. Very warm environment.

I think I've found a new favorite NYC breakfast spot for my trips to the city! Food: The (gluten free) waffle with berries was yum yum yum! The bacon was thick and delicious. I heard the ($40) burger was also solid. My favorite thing about this place is the allergen-friendliness; tons of GF options (though dairy free is much harder). Menus do vary by location so if - like me - you were in search of the blueberry pancakes, check before you arrive. Service: I'm impressed with how friendly and helpful our server was, especially given the Sunday rush! Ambiance: It's cute, rustic, and pretty small. By 11 am, it's packed so parties have to wait outside. Prices are a little steep but gosh it's good!

A nice lunch spot for a quality meal, though on the pricier side. Space is a little cramped, but still good for groups of 4. Pastrami Reuben - $24 for a sandwich and fries is expensive. However, it was a good sandwich with juicy and fresh pastrami and nicely assembled on my plate. Still, unless you're craving something like this (like I was), this plate may not be able to justify its price. Value: 2/5 Quality: 5/5 Quantity: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 3/5

Great service considering how large the party was (I think we were almost 20). They were able to accomodate a reservation for our group and we took up most of the restaurant. The food came out FAST! I had the fried chicken, cheddar waffle and hot honey. It was huge. So I shared with my friend. It was very delicious. Cooked a minute longer and it would have been too dry for me. Otherwise, it was perfect. Overall everyone seemed pleased with their meals. I would recommend and come back again. $26 for chicken & waffles.

Was in NY for the weekend and saw the good reviews and gluten free options so I decided to check this place out. There was a line outside which is expected on a Sunday morning. But fortunately it moved fairly quickly especially because we were only 2 people. I ordered the market veggies omelet, which was spinach and tomatoes. instead of the tomatoes, I substituted the mushrooms. The ingredients in the omelet were fresh and plentiful as well as the avocado on top. The omelet overall was ok just a little flavorless. I ordered my potato hash a little more well done which they did. My issue was the pound of salt they put on top to the point I couldn't eat it and it almost made me feel sick. You could see all the salt crystals it was awful. Definitely order it unsalted and add your own. Then I got the gluten free toast which I paid extra for and it was burnt. I didn't ask for new potatoes or new toast because the waitress never came back so I figure it would take forever. It took a while just to get ketchup to see if it would help the salt situation but it didn't. I had a hot coffee which no one ever offered to refill. The person I was with ordered the matzo ball soup which I actually thought was good! It's definitely a crowded little place. Would I come back, eh not sure.

Very good food. Quality is awesome. The Ruben and French dip are must haves. It's a small place but one to visit.

Sometimes it's a bit of a wait to get in to sit down, but trust me, you'll be impressed. It's a little diner looking place with some nice wood furniture and a kind atmosphere with some laid back folks. We waited about 10 minutes for a table, a nice little corner seat. You can also sit at the counter as it is open seating. I had some coffee to start and the traditional egg breakfast. It comes with a choice of bacon or some fruit. I chose the bacon option. The eggs were fried a little too hard for my taste, but delicious nonetheless. The bacon had that nice smoked taste to it, something some restaurants have a hard time doing. The potatoes on the side were also tasty, along with wheat toast. Overall, I recommend any tourist coming into Hell's Kitchen to try this place out. It isn't too pricey for NYC, and it's a great way to start your day out. At lunch it does get a little crowded from the office people coming for a bite to eat, but go early and you'll be impressed!

Obnoxious manger, poor food, dirty utensils. Ordered fried chicken and was served a small wing, small part of a thigh and maybe a quarter of a breast. Bad experience and never again. Judging from the lack of customers it looks like it's standard operating procedure.

First off, food is yummy and FAST! So five stars for that. But in addition I had a fantastic interaction with Ricardo at the front today which prompted this review ( I rarely if ever leave one). I called ahead, and was told the waits 10 minutes and not to worry even though I specified I'm brining kids. Specifically I asked if the wait may increase to 30 minutes and if so I'd come another day. She assured me. When I arrived they said 30 minutes. I complained to Ricardo and asked him to please instruct the team not to make that assurance when someone's going out of their way with hungry kids. We left, walked across the street, and were googling where else to eat....when Ricardo came running out to ask me to come back and he got us seated in under 5 minutes. This is above and beyond, especially at Sunday brunch in NYC, with a line! On top of all that...the French toast and BLT were just fantastic. 10 stars.

I figured place like this would have normal breakfast and for most part that's true though do have things like Shashuka. Drink could have been stronger .
