Friends & Family Silver Lake - Review - Silver Lake - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"One of our favorite bakeries (and #1 croissant in the city) now has a second location in Silver Lake. Friend & Family’s new outpost has a tighter menu that focuses on pastries, coffee, and grab-and-go sandwiches like tuna and swiss on sourdough and a Moroccan carrot and feta veggie sandwich. If you’re looking for a new patio in the neighborhood for lunch, this place has a spacious one. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Sylvio Martins

I love the impeccable plain croissants at F&F and the baguette is great. Today I splurged on a jar of "Peach Blackberry Jam" which says 8oz and costs $15. I was excited to see which fruit flavor came first, the peach or the berry, but all I got was sugar; first bite, last bite, lots of sugar no discernable fruit flavors. Very disappointing, maybe leave jam-making to those other folks in SL. I'll stick with the bread & croissants in future.

I'm so happy that Friends & Family opened up an outpost in Silver Lake! It's wonderful to have such quality, unique, and delicious baked goods in the neighborhood. The space feels brighter and more open than before, and I really appreciate how they've transformed the patio into a much more communal and inviting space that's better shared with their neighbor, Burgers Never Say Die 🍔. It feels like a perfect spot to sit with one's book or laptop and stay awhile or to meet with friends or colleagues. The spot has become a part of my regular neighborhood circuit with my 18-month-old. We love walking here to enjoy a croissant together and say hi to the friendly staff

Great spot with delicious coffee and food. Huge lacking in vibes, negative energy and nowhere to sit and enjoy yourself. It’s very cold, uninviting, not a place to set up and do work. All of the coffees also come in one size (small) and prices don’t really reflect that. I think they need to create a more inviting energy and work out the pretentiousness. But the pastries are supreme, outstanding.

The good: amazing pastries, helpful staff The bad: no indoor seating at all, completely barren walls, no music or ambiance; seems designed to get you to leave as soon as possible Granted, F&F has giant shoes to fill, as this space was formerly occupied by Silverlake Coffee, a cozy community hub with big leather couches, comfy chairs and lots of tables, local artists’ work on the walls, and great music curated on the fly by the baristas. I came to check out the new business and to hopefully get some computer work done, but the vibe was so stark and unchill that I got a (quite excellent) quiche and left. If this place a) added comfy indoor seating, b) played some tunes, and c) lowered the lights and ditched the minimalist “trendy Hollywood” vibe it would be an easy 5 stars. Great location and great food — but just not an inviting space.

Might have to drive all the way back out here for this focaccia

Great pastries but no indoor seating at all and no ambiance. They just want you in and out quickly, but if I’m paying $20 for a sandwich and coffee Id like a place to sit down and eat it.
