"A coffee shop inspired by the South Bay’s lowriders and cruising culture has arrived in National City. Decorated with automotive memorabilia, Esquina Vintage and Coffee is now pouring filter and espresso-based drinks out of its corner outpost at 640 National City Avenue. The shop features Gavina coffee as its primary supplier, while the shop’s cold brew is supplied by Paradise Hill’s Project Reo Collective coffee shop and decaf drinks are made with Cafe Moto beans. House specials and traditional Mexican items include cafe de olla, the Viejito latte, and pieces of pan dulce. The shop’s interior and motif is inspired by the lifelong passion of owners Fabian Gil, Alberto Castaneda, and Rene Acevedo, who are all members of the chapter of lowrider group Viejitos Car Club. The trio aims to celebrate this aspect of the local culture, while giving back to the community through their shop’s space. There are also plans to feature art and photography from National City artists and residents. Esquina Vintage and Coffee in open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. through 12 p.m., with the shop reopening from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The shop’s Saturday hours are 8 a.m. through 1 p.m." - Mario A. Cortez

This coffee shop is truly impressive with its artistic and unique interior design. The vibe, decorations, and service all contribute to a great atmosphere. I ordered a ginger thyme latte with oat milk, half sweet. The staff was incredibly thoughtful and double-checked if I wanted decaf since I’m pregnant—such a kind gesture! However, the drink was extremely sweet, almost overwhelmingly so. Despite the nice flavor, the sweetness overpowered everything else. I couldn’t finish the cup and ended up drinking less than half. I’m not sure if it was actually half sweet because it was unbelievably sweet.

The ambiance is classy and relaxing. Customer service is excellent. Coffee is delicious and had an egg / bacon sandwich. Perfect. Has a wall of LP records and a DJ turn table. Must be a blast during the evening hours. If you're nearby, it is a must stop for coffee.

The burger is delish! The space does not disappoint. Sweet sound system blasting some nice tunes. It’s green, artsy and the staff is very friendly. My only suggestion and why I give 4 stars is the bar where I sat needed to be wiped down. It was far from gross but I’m OCD so I notice minuscule details. Will definitely be coming back!

First time visiting and absolutely impressed with the place! Ordered the Buko Pandan Latte, and ohhhh my!!! It is definitely a MUST TRY! If you’re a fan of hazelnut and coconut, this drink is a mix of both, which was deliciously surprising.

Friends of Friends is easily one of the best coffee shops around! The vibe is unmatched—lush greenery fills the space, creating a fresh, welcoming feel, and the huge DJ station adds a unique, creative energy. It’s the kind of place where you can spend hours soaking in the atmosphere. The artwork displayed throughout is like a mini art gallery, showcasing thoughtfully curated pieces that reflect the heart of the local community. Plus, they sell Friends of Friends merch like T-shirts, so you can take a little piece of this awesome spot home with you. During our visit, Marco, the owner, overheard us chatting about coffee and mold and came over to share his expertise. He educated us on the quality of his beans and the dedication of coffee farmers. It was a fascinating crash course that deepened our appreciation for coffee. Marco’s passion and dedication shine through in every detail, making this coffee shop feel special and personal. And let’s talk about Wavy, the café inside Friends of Friends. Their food is the perfect complement to the coffee, and their tater tots are absolutely legendary—crispy, flavorful, and a must-try! The collaboration between Friends of Friends and Wavy makes this spot a true gem. The team is always friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable, creating a warm, community-centered experience. Whether you’re here for the coffee, the food, the art, or just the good vibes, Friends of Friends is a place you’ll want to come back to again and again. Support this incredible local business—you won’t regret it!

Google
Hidden diamond , love the artwork and music. They have events and the food was delicious and fast. From coffee to coffee with IPA and beer and wine burgers and tots and teas. It’s a great place to chill and vibe with a friend or alone because it’s an inviting chill place/ vibe.

Four years in the making. Definitely worth the wait! I love the vibe of this place. From the fresh plants to vinyls and wall art -- my mood was instantly lifted after walking in. Service was awesome. We were greeted right away, employees answered questions we had as first time customers. Everyone was welcoming and chill. Our food and drinks came out quick. Favorite drink ordered: hot palo santo latte. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and caffeine. I also enjoyed an iced buko pandan latte. As a Filipina myself, I was expecting to taste the buko pandan flavor more, but it was subtle. It was great. Also not sweet and I could really taste the coffee which I loved. The iced palo santo latte was my least favorite because of how earthy it tasted. It's not MY* jam, but could be yours. The burgers are delicious. I highly recommend. The tator tots were bomb as well, the portion is definitely shareable between 2 people! There's a condiment section alongside the listening bar with ketchup and hot sauce. I will definitely be back :)

Google
Really chill place for coffee and foods. They have a really high standards for their coffee which is greatly appreciated. Ordered a cortado and they made sure to dial in the machine before serving even if it took extra time.

Yelp
We came in late after crossing the border on a Sunday and the espresso machine was closed. The super nice guy at the front offered to make me a iced coffee with pilloncillo and any milk I wanted - so sweet and a life saver. Decor is gorgeous with lots of plants, library vibes and plenty of seating. I was stuffed but want to come back for house made biscuits - they have a whole kitchen in store.

Bruce L.

Yelp
Food: Egg & Cheese was really good! Soft but crisp brioche, good egg-to-cheese flavor ratio, and not too much chipotle aioli. Service: Quick and easy. One of the workers even came by to ask if the drinks were to our liking. Very chill vibe. Definitely will be coming back more often. Parking: Street parking, but not too difficult. Seats: Good amount. Bar seating is also available if you have a party of 2-3.

Tammie W.

Yelp
A coffee shop that serves great drinks, food, and has a dj in house? Hell to the yes please. Not only is the service spectacular, but the coffee drinks were extremely tasty, the house was bouncing, the music great, the walls nicely decorated, and the menu provided options. I had the buko pandan latte which was smooth, had a hint of sweetness, and went down nicely. The hubby had the palo santo latte which we've seen on more menus lately. We also shared a bacon, egg, cheese empanada which had great flavor and a buttery crust.

Estefania C.

Yelp
Great spot in National city! Have come here twice and they only sell coffee until 5. They do have beer and wine. Their coffee is really good. I had the palo santo and the ginger coffee. It is subtle but definitely can taste it. The palo santo has a woodsy pine rosemary like flavor. The ginger one is subtle and delicious. Cool spot with a great atmosphere. Slightly dark atmosphere. Great place to enjoy a cup of coffee or food. Service was great. There isn't parking but lots of street parking with meters

Alyanna M.

Yelp
Been seeing this place on social media lately. It has a really cool concept of a listening cafe, they serve coffee, alcohol, & some food. The atmosphere was pretty cool with trendy decor. I tried the buko pandan latte & while it was good, it didnt taste like buko pandan, I don't really think it should be called "buko pandan." We also tried one of their seasonal valentine drinks, it was also pretty good. Overall, a cool concept & I'd come back to try it again.

Melanie P.

Yelp
I've had this coffee shop flagged for awhile and the weekend is the perfect time to enjoy this family friendly cafe. Having grown up in the area, I was thrilled to see a cafe like this in National City. I felt like I was in North Park. With live plants hanging from the ceiling & windows that allow you to see the kitchen areas, it's an open and inviting place designed to bring people together. I tried the Buko Pandan and this was delicious! It was full of coconut flavor, creamy, & comforting. I took at sip of the B.S. Palo Santo and it had a nice smoky taste. I also had their cinnamon roll which just freshly baked. I sat at DJ bar while she spun some music. Great place to relax and have a cup of coffee. Will definitely come back again. Service was great and baristas were friendly.

Carla L.

Yelp
Decor 9/10, it's def one of a kind. The decor was super cute and picture worthy! Coffee 8/10 I got the Piloncillo Latte asked for it half sweetened , I enjoyed the drink. Tater tots 6/10 Didnt enjoy the seasoning they add to the tater tots

Abeeha H.

Yelp
The vibe of this place really carries the experience. I came here on a weekday morning and decided to get the pandan latte and the breakfast sandwich (the one without meat). The guy at the register was very nice and the place had lots of seating, presumably to eat or cowork rather than study. Unfortunately the food and the drink were not my favorites. The latte didn't have any coffee or caffeine or anything (which is completely fine granted my American-centered brain really thought that it being a latte meant having espresso or some caffeine). It was pretty sweet which also took away from the pandan flavor in my opinion and overall I couldn't finish it at 10am. The bigger disappointment was the breakfast sandwich which looked so so so good but was so extremely overloaded with sauce that it was burning my hand in the first bite. I couldn't taste the egg, the bread became an incubator for the sauce and I just couldn't get past the idea that it was spilling everywhere. Overall, I'm excited to see the filipino fusion into cafe items, but some adjustments to the menu could clarify what's caffeinated and what isn't + an adjustment to sauce ratios would significantly improve the taste of the food.

Yelp
Ive been here numerous times here by now and always love the space, the people, the energy here! Coffee is always so on point and their specialty lattes are all worth trying. The buko pandan and brown sugar palo santo lattes are my favorites but the rest are a close second. The space can fill up quickly, even during the weekdays so make sure to come early if you have a large group for seating. There is a large table in the middle for communal sitting as well for smaller groups to sit together. Love that!

Yelp
Local coffee in National City!! Yes!! I finally got to visit this new coffee shop in my old hood during our most recent visit! I've been cruisin down 8th Street with my parents to shop at Navy Exchange/Commissary or to eat Filipino food at Conching's since I was little, and I'd have dinners here with friends during the post-grad years... but now, all grown up and married, I'm back here and finally at a local coffee shop. I was looking forward to their buko pandan latte, but didn't see it on the menu when we visited a few days before Christmas. I ordered the hot A$AP Yam Latte and it was so so so good! The yam was fresh and the drink was a bit creamy, but not too sweet and with good coffee. My husband ordered the cafe de olla, which was tasty too and didn't taste like chai (I don't like chai). The vibe is great for catching up with friends or some work if you don't mind the light background noise of old skool hip hop. So happy National City has other coffee options other than the OG Plaza Blvd 'Bucks and Sweetwater 'Bucks (which is now a boba shop??). We will be back!

Marissa P.

Yelp
A viiibbbeeeeee!! Loved the decor. I def want to go back when there's a DJ. I went with the intent of trying the pandan latte but the barista sold me on the Iced Palo Santo latte and it was sooooo good. So subtle, but so good! I'll definitely be back.

Han L.

Yelp
They have a really cool space, but I didn't like my coffee. They said they roasted their own beans, but it tasted a little green.

Austin S.

Yelp
Sometimes you walk into a spot and the energy encapsulates you. Friends of friends is in rarified air. A beautiful space. To start, they had someone spinning some lofi tracks as to not derail folks trying to be productive. But, still upbeat enough for the groups that are coming to be social. A perfect balance to accommodate all guests. The menu is amazing. I took 2 trips during my trip to San Diego. My first trip I rolled with a bomb ass biscuit, longanissa biscuit. Both amazing. The biscuits were perfectly golden brown, crumbly, and buttery. The bomb ass biscuit was loaded with whipped butter and a strawberry jam. Absolute perfection The longanissa biscuit was just as great. the longanissa had a subtle sweetness accompanied by a slight heat. I also had a smiley cristo my other trip. A soft, pillowy croissant hosts juicy ham with jam, cheese. A great take on a classic sandwich. The coffee? best lattes I had in San Diego. Both iced and hot. Overall, one of the dopest, coziest spots I have ever entered. A spot I will continue to dream about. Well done, friends of friends, you've got a friend in me.

Karyn T.

Yelp
My husband and I came to Friends of Friends to celebrate our niece's 14th birthday! We had never been before and came early to brunch, the restaurant itself is super vibey, I loved the high ceilings and the thriving plants, the open floor seating and windows to see them making all the pastries and food, it was really cool. I wish I could drink coffee but I was able to try the pandan latte, it was tasty but too strong for me personally. We got our niece her Thai Tea and her pastry and we ended up ordering the breakfast sandwich with longanisa and the croque monsieur. Our nieces pastry had a good amount of sweetness and acidity and was super flaky. My sandwich was good too a little hard to eat but definitely worth it and Bryan's sandwich was so good he didn't give me a chance to take a bite. We stayed here long enough to get a burger from Wavy too. I'd come back for breakfast but would want to stay for lunch.

Trish V.

Yelp
I'm actually obsessed with the decor of this place :o My friends and I were visiting SD for a trip and randomly decided to come here for coffee. The vibe of the place was so cool and welcoming. The owner helped us choose the best drinks to order and gave really good descriptions of what was on the menu. We were chatting with him, and he even gave us recommendations for places to hang out at night. Plus the drinks were really bomb!

Yessika S.

Yelp
I tried their Palo Santo Iced Latte with Oatmilk. It kind of tasted like milk tea with coffee. Not a bad flavor, but definitely new. I like my coffee on the stronger side so I would add a shot of espresso. Shop was pleasant, staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely will be back to try a different one!

Ashley P.

Yelp
One of my favorite smash burgers! Their Thai tea latte is also delicious. You can hear records while you eat! Very auesthetic spot. Friendly staff and lots of seating space.

Shannon L.

Yelp
My new favorite cafe in San Diego! I am a sucker for asian inspired drinks and the Buko Pandan blew me out of the water. Their homemade pandan syrup is the perfect blend of coconut and real pandan. It is very hard to find good pandan drinks so I will definitely be back again. (and yes it does have coffee in it even though it doesnt seem like it!) The service is quick considering the large volume of customers and the atmosphere is nice and cozy for a good morning hangout.

Serena T.

Yelp
I tried their buko pandan latte and really enjoyed it! The flavors are perfect, not too overwhelming or subtle. I got it in decaf but the espresso flavor was still really good! This place is adorable! Lots of plants and neat decor. I've gone here once in the evening when they had a DJ. Definitely is a 3rd space. I will definitely be returning and bring a book or some work to do!

Richi T.

Yelp
Great coffee shop, would recommend more for meeting up with people rather than for a quiet work spot. I had a piloncillo latte and ordered a rice krispy cookie (Wavy menu); both items and the servers were fantastic.

Eric S.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday afternoon with my wife, kids and some friends, and this place was on fire--in all the best ways! The ambiance was unreal, packed with friendly folks, amazing decor, and to top it off, they had someone live on the ones and twos spinning all the 90s hip hop classics. Picture us enjoying smash burgers, Philly cheesesteak, lumpia, and sipping on pandan lattes, and feeling like we'd stepped into the coolest throwback party. The food was unforgettable (seriously, I'm still dreaming about that burger), and the service was top-notch; they made us feel like VIPs. Friends of Friends has officially become our new go-to for killer vibes, great eats, and that unbeatable 90s beat!

Kimme F.

Yelp
Ok... I had to update my review because todays visit was spectacular. I can't even explain the amazing customer service we received today. Even though it was really busy, we were greeted and checked on so many times - like no one forgot about us even though we sat outside. Everyone was so friendly. We even chatted with a gentleman making coffee and he explained what the Cafe De Ollo was. We received our food in a good amount of time which I'm so happy about. Also... I TOOK PHOTOS THIS TIME! Today I tried the Palo Santo Latte with an extra shot and oatmilk. It was so flavorful but mild in taste which I liked. Even with the extra shot of expresso, it was not bitter at all. I got the hints of herbal taste from the palo santo but it was so delicious. I also got the OG BAO and beef lumpia. The OG Bao was interesting, it really is a burger inside of a bao bun. The bun was slightly sweet so you don't need ketchup but the hot sauce really complimented it. It was just the right amount of meat and cheese, super yummy and filling! Beef lumpia's were good too. Came out hot and crispy. Can't complain about some crispy lumpia's. To end my lunch, I had to have the rice crispy cookie again. Seriously my favorite part and you just have to try it. Crunchy but soft and gooey. Love the rice crispy bits in it and the marshmallow on top. It's such a great combination in one. I'm so happy I got to try this place again and I am overly impressed by todays visit. Thank you so much Friends of Friends!

Danny W.

Yelp
The Buko Pandan Latte is magical and a must try. This latte was served at a perfect temperature and all the flavors were well balanced. The atmosphere of this coffee shop was electrifying and good vibes. The service was on point and everyone who worked here was kind and respectful. I would give this place more than 5 stars if I could and will definitely be returning.

Jennifer A.

Yelp
I drive 30 minutes just to get the buko pandan latte with oat milk and yes I did pay $8 for a biscuit cause it is a bombast biscuit with maple butter and blackberry Jam we also got Korn an stole inspired steamer consisting of masa, rosemary, Piloncillo, cinnamon, vanilla paste, non dairy based and no modifications soo fire love the atmosphere and everything about this place

Nicole M.

Yelp
I love the vibe of friends of friends. Between the good food, friendly open air atmosphere, gorgeous interior design/decor/greenery, and great music vibes it was a perfect place to spend Sunday with some friends. Staff were all very friendly and took the time to answer questions about unique menu options. Iced buko pandan latte: creamy and refreshing, has a flavor profile similar to something between matcha and coffee with a sweeter taste. I personally was expecting coconut based on the name but no coconut flavors (which I liked). The OG smashburger: delicious and savory without the typical greasiness of a smash burger. Also has a really good sauce on it that adds just the right amount of kick! Tater tots: ordered since they don't have fries but was happily surprised by how they were crispy and lightly seasoned! Went great with the burger and definitely enough to share with at least 2-3 people. Came on a Sunday afternoon, plenty of street parking around the area with residential and 2 hour parking spots (free on Sundays). Open seating with variety of indoor tables and outdoor bench seating, order at the front cashier and get a number if dining in. It was pretty crowded and had to wait a little bit for a spot to open up for 4 people. Friends and I sat on the benches by the windows, which made for convenient drink delivery! Great place for people to vibe to good music and yummy food/drinks.

Armani H.

Yelp
Friends of friends is my best friend! This place is such a vibe with the jams and interior decorations. The staff here is very welcoming and this place has a lot of seating areas and outlets so you can get your work done. I got the iced piloncillo latte with oat milk and it was well balanced with a coffee flavor and sweetness. The OG burger is soooo delicious and in my opinion one of the best burgers here in San Diego! Got it the chilly flakes to make it a bit spicy and that was a good touch to it!

Isabella R.

Yelp
I stopped here for coffee and ended up ordering a soyrizo burrito as well. It was a bit busy, and my iced latte took longer to prepare than I expected, but it was worth the wait. I definitely want to return to try their lunch menu. The café itself has a lovely aesthetic.

Yesenia J.

Yelp
This place was absolutely so cute and the drink was delicious! I was a little skeptical at first but the palo santo drink was chefs kiss! I also ordered the breakfast burrito, it was good but I'm not sure if it was vegan or real cheese in it. They gave me some extra tater tots. Which was a plus in my book.

Jenny N.

Yelp
Very cute place! We stopped by for a drink after getting some food nearby. When I came I saw they had food too so I was sad I had eaten already! I wasn't a big fan of the drinks we got, the palo santo and buko pandan, but honestly I think it might've just not been the drinks for me! My partner liked the pandan drink :) I will definitely be back to try their food! They have street parking outside and the inside is very cute! I'm not sure if they do something else at night but there was also a bar sort of thing with a lot of music tracks around! Might be worth looking into :)

Christina L.

Yelp
I was looking for a good first meet spot with someone and stumbled upon this place. The service is really good. It's very trendy. I would say I wasn't crazy about the music a Tad loud in my opinion. They have a small selection of wines. I tried the Tater tots with philly cheesesteak on top. Amazing, so good! I would love to come back and try additional items. They have a small amount of desserts. Everything looked amazing. I would like to come back and try the coffee as well. Place was clean. I would say parking may be the biggest struggle when it's busy down here. Definitely a trendy spot, good for small groups or friend hang out mid week or weekend if your in the area.

Ashley C.

Yelp
I was very excited to check out this coffee spot, and was pleasantly surprised to see a food menu from Wavy as well with Filipino flavors! We were able to get our caffeine fix and a delicious breakfast to start our day all in one spot. We visited 8 coffee shops during our weekend trip here but this was the best overall experience. Amazing service, both of our drinks were delicious, food was great, and loved the chill vibe inside! The only thing missing is a bigger outdoor seating area but they are on a main road so it's all street parking out front. The buko pandan latte was really well executed. It didn't taste artificial like most pandan drinks are, and you can tell by the color. I am a huge fan of peach drinks so I absolutely had my eye on the Eat a Peach latte from the current seasonal menu. The mascarpone cold foam was a good balance of sweet and salty, against the cracked black pepper. Loved this shop so much and it definitely beats all of the well-known ones in San Diego that you always hear about. I'd be here every week if I lived in SD!

Jillian T.

Yelp
Location: It is on a busy main street in National City with diagonal and parallel 2-hour street parking. I lucked out on a 2-hour parking spot across from the café and coincidentally parked next to my friend I was meeting there! Food: My friend got the hot buko pandan latte, while I got the cold buko pandan latte. I took my time drinking it because it was so delicious and pretty strong. By the time we finished after like 3 hours I was buzzed! I personally didn't eat there but I saw several people get tater tots. I believe they have other finger foods but see the Wavy menu for the food items. Service: fast and no issues! Ambiance: I love the plants and use of wood all over the place! I especially love the records and record players on the wall. They play loud music so you can get the kind of work done where you don't need to focus too much. I was able to chat and engage in the material studying together with my friend but once I had to read and focus by myself it was a bit challenging with the atmosphere like people talking in the same large table as us and the loud music playing. If you have earphones or noise-canceling ones then they should help! Overall, I enjoyed my first time at Friends of Friends! I would definitely come back again to hang out or spend time doing easy school work here. I would love to try other coffee flavors and the food as well.

Gerald S.

Yelp
Went to buy coffee beans from this place, and they didn't disappoint. Staff was super friendly, and also suggested the Buko Pandan latte. I had it iced, but I heard having it hot is better. Will be visiting soon!

Mary K.

Yelp
Friends of Friends is by far the most beautiful cafe I've been to in San Diego. The coffee and food were so good, and the ambiance just makes the place feel like a dream. I thoroughly enjoyed my coffee and English muffin sandwich. I was a little cold while eating my food, but luckily the food itself was piping hot, just hot I like it! Service was quick and no one gave me any problems for squinting at the menu for 5 minutes to figure out my order. I'm at a loss for words. Everything about this place is great. It's my new favorite spot in San Diego.

Phuong G.

Yelp
Such a vibe in National City!! Stopped by to grab a morning pick me up. So excited that a cafe opened up in National City. Very chill place with cool decor and ambience. Love that they have a DJ area.. like whaaaattt. It looks small on the outside but it's pretty big on the inside!! A lot more spacious than you would think! Customer service is A1, and got my drink pretty fast. The buko Pandan latte is 11/10 y'all. A must try if you like matcha / Pandan flavors!!! Will def come back before work on the weekdays!

Ginger P.

Yelp
I had the buko pandan latte with light ice and my husband had the BS Palo Santo latte, which was described as having a smoky flavor. I liked both lattes a lot, but I might actually prefer the Palo Santo just a little. The smoky flavor isn't overwhelming, but distinct and hard to miss. It's a unique option that I haven't seen offered anywhere else. We went on a Sunday and it was very busy in here, but we were able to find a spot to sit. The atmosphere is pretty nice, so I see why people would want to hang around. Service is nice and they bring the drinks/food out to you. Would definitely return, especially because it's super close to 8th & B Poke, and it's a great date idea to do one after the other.

Apple C.

Yelp
I love this place! They have such good service and the FOOD??? Omg!! To die for !!! Their tatie tots and the biscuits are my favorites. This place is super vibee, as long as they serve good quality food and drinks, I will be a customer forever.

Alice Y.

Yelp
Nice spot to check out if you're in National City! We tried the buko pandan latte and the piloncillo latte, both with oat milk and half sweetness since the cashier mentioned they are a bit on the sweet side. Very happy with how the drinks turned out, especially the buko pandan! We also ordered a couple food items from Wavy that were pretty good. Music was a bit loud inside and made it hard to have a conversation without having to raise our voices. We may have sat in a spot closer to the speakers but a slightly lower volume would be great. Otherwise vibes and beats were solid! Also love all the natural greenery inside.

Narissa M.

Yelp
I am always on the lookout for local coffeeshops to support. I undoubtedly found one here. The outside signage was not noticeable from the direction I came from. It's in the same group of buildings as McDinis and a thrift store. I had to drive around a few times to find it lol It was almost full house at 12 on a Saturday. Most of the seating was taken. I sat at a big community-like table near the open kitchen, where you can watch them making your bao buns. There is a roasting room and record section in the back. I would love to come back on a day off and listen to records allll day. I tried the IPA latte, OG burger, and galette for about $25 plus cash tip. Service was friendly and quick. The IPA latte, cold, with oat milk and sweet Harlan IPA syrup, very pleasantly surprised me. But it makes sense if you love beer and coffee. It's boffee or coffeer! Both flavors are well balanced and neither overpowered the other. The OG is ultimate comfort food. Juicy smash burgers, buttery brioche, cheesy goodness spilling out. What's not to love? The galette I believe was passion fruit. A big cloud of toasted marshmallow topping, then biting into the sweet flaky pastry, contrasting with the tartness of the passion fruit. Wow. Am I the friend, or the friend of the friend that will be at Friends of Friends? Yes.

Sandra P.

Yelp
I had the honor of trying this place out for both breakfast and for lunch. I was very impressed with my little sandwich it packed a punch of flavor. The onion wrapped around the egg was a great touch. The art on my latte was beautiful. The cheesesteak was also delicious. The iced coffee was so delicious. People think I am weird but I love coffee at any time of day. The DJ had a lot of good jams playing. I also had a delicious carrot cake. It is not pictured just because my big back couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I need to come back and try the ice cream. That is my next mission.

Yelp
Okaaaaay this place is awesome. This specific block of National City is really coming up, with Market on 8th just across the street. This is everything you want in a coffee shop and it's also a vinyl listening lounge (note, the music is loud but very very good all day). Street parking is available but can be a little tough depending on the time of day you go. Let's talk about the star of the show: the BS Palo Santo Latte - this is hands down one of the best lattes I've ever had. I cannot tell how they give it the essence of palo santo without making it taste weird but they've done it. All the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Great addition to the neighborhood, check it out asap!

Yelp
Run, don't walk to come try this coffee shop! Such cool vibes and unique, delicious coffee drinks to go along with it. We got there on a Thurs morning around 10 and it was pretty busy already. A good amount of indoor seating though so we were able to sit along the bar area. I got the buko pandan latte and my sister got the b.s. Palo Santo latte. The buko pandan is a coconut and pandan flavor and the Palo Santo is the Palo Santo Wood that they smoke themselves and make a syrup out of to flavor the latte. Both of the drinks were some of the most unique flavors I've ever tried, and they were both delicious. The Palo Santo flavor I've really never had anything like it. I was worried it would be overly smokey but it wasnt. I did get the pandan latte at 1/2 sweet which was perfect for me. For food my sister got the breakfast bao. Very unique as well. They used a bao bun and stuffed it and pressed it so it came out like a panini. It comes with eggs, tater tots, chives, cheese and chili crisp. It does eat pretty oily and I did wish there were some more chives to add freshness but overall really tasty and filling. The bun texture was spot on and perfectly doughy. Only street parking but we found a spot right out front pretty easily.

Yelp
Friends of friends is a great addition to National City with its very chill vibes and nicely decorated interior. I ordered the Buko Pandan Latte, which was one of their most popular drinks and it did not disappoint. The scone on the other hand was $8 and would not order it again, but I'd like to try the other pastries they have to offer. I haven't tried the food yet, but will definitely be back to do so. The service is also great, the baristas are attentive, warm, welcoming and patient. It's not on their menu yet, but they have a few beers available on tap (just ask when you order). Plenty of seating and outlets if you'd like a place to study. A little loud, but bring your noise canceling headphones!

Yelp
Cute coffee shop and great vibes. I got the turon latte and I love that it didn't taste artificial. Plus, I love how they got the essence of the Filipino dessert. As a Filipino, I approve! 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
I came here for coffee, but stayed for the biscuits! I guess they change their flavors every so often, and it's what keeps every visit fun! So far I've been twice and tried the raspberry biscuit and the apple butter biscuit. Both were soooo good! Excellent service by knowledgeable staff and the decor is such a vibe! Super cute for a date or even if it's just for a coffee break with the girlies.

Yelp
Visited this place yesterday to meet up with my best friend since she was in town for a bit and we were craving some good coffee. Heard through the grapevine that this local spot would be a good one to check out so we headed here first before grabbing lunch. The vibe and ambiance of the place is green and modern - definitely a laidback vibe which I love and there's quite a bit of seating though the place itself is a tad smaller. They do split this spot as Friends of Friends for the coffee, and then Wavy for the food. We ended up ordering a buko pandan latte and I had one of the seasonal flavors, the sarsparilla latte, which were both delicious! Super sweet service and the cashier gave us excellent suggestions and helped us decide. My only gripe is the coffee does take quite a bit of time to make, but I believe there was literally only one barista getting orders ready so I can overlook that. Otherwise I'd still come back and see what other seasonal flavors they offer.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday afternoon to work and the wifi is pretty good. Lots of seating areas and a couple of outlets. Gender neutral restroom but no changing table. Ordered the tots, iced buko pandan latte and IPA latte. Everything was super good! This is probably the best buko pandan latte I've tried in San Diego. Staff is super nice and fast with making our drinks and food. Overall, the entire space is clean and spacious. They're always playing good music every time I've come here. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area!

Yelp
Amazing! My friend and I stopped by for a quick dinner and fell in love with the ambience. The burgers were good! Can't go wrong with a smash burger. We loved the sauces that went with it. Service was great! We loved the music that was playing and followed Pour Music Taste on Spotify. We're excited to come back for the listening bar. I was also surprised to see that one of the owners is from Public Square, one of my favorite coffee shops in SD! Friends of Friends is a place to visit for sure. It perfectly encapsulates all there is to love about South Bay and the culture of National City!
