Fringe

Fringe is a fine dining restaurant in the lobby of the Jerusalem Theater. The menu has been created by a well-known chef, with fish and dairy dishes, a focus on fine wines and a small cocktail and alcohol list. The chef is quite proud that almost all the ingredients are locally sourced, preferably from the Jerusalem area, then from Israel generally. The fish come from the Israeli coast. The restaurant is under the kosher supervision of the Jerusalem Rabbanut. We shared five dishes from the Starters and From the Sea sections of the menu. These are small dishes that can easily be shared. They range in price from NIS 32 to 62, and with the bread basket, would have been a very pleasant meal for the two of us, at about NIS 115 pp. In addition, we shared the Sofrito main course, which was a unique dish, but we preferred the starters. We also had two creative cocktails. The main course and the cocktails brought the total for the dinner up to the range of NIS 175 pp. Service was pleasant and not rushed. The chef and the sommelier were available to talk to us, as we came for an early sitting. All told, Fringe is a nice place to treat yourself or your valued guests.

Very hip and quiet atmosphere at the Jerusalem Theater. Levantine fish restaurant!

The food was below bad. We ordered the fish burger which contained a fish cake that was made out of all fish parts including bones, skin and fat. We left that one nearly untouched. The second dish was the fish shwarma which was made out of very low quality fish (Tilapia) and the souce was unclear (contained Labane). The third dish was a fillet of fish with roasted veg. The fillet was OK but the veg were unetable, being raw and chewy. On top of that, the service was very unpleasent. Three different staff members approached us over the course of our first 5 minutes there, urging to place the order despite we asked for a few minutes to study the menu. Overall, highly unrecommended.

A truly enjoyable evening. Food and service were excellent. Cocktails were fun. Fringe dishes are creative, interesting, even exciting —very different than other kosher restaurants in Jerusalem. We will be back!

I had a wonderfully prepared salad and white fish fillet artfully and tastefully prepared. One of the best meals I have eaten recently.

Lovely atmosphere in the lobby of the Jerusalem Theatre. Service was friendly but not overly attentive. The food was mostly tasty but…..almost nothing was as it was on the menu. The Pici Pasta was Pappardelle. The Frikeh was rice. The Mashed potatoes were oven roasted. Again it was mostly tasty but a bit disappointing. ( I tasted the pici-pappardelle and I thought it was tasteless) As a follow up. The manager was extremely extremely attentive to our comments and really over did it in compensation. We did not want any compensation and he went overboard. I hope this was just a bad night for them. We will try again. On second thought, I probably won't.

Had a great evening at Fringe. They were extremely generous, surprised us with a couple of complementary dishes that we didn't ask for. The food was great, no bad dishes, everything was tasty, standard was high. By the time we got to the main course we were quite full but still Edna's Fish Kebabs proved to be excellent anyway.
