Usually when I’m in a new town, I check Yelp to see which restaurants in my area have the highest reviews. And they have to be robust enough for me to take their ratings seriously (ex. A spot with 2 reviews that’s rated 5 stars vs. a place that has 4.5 stars and over 500 reviews. I’ll choose the spot with more reviews). Not only does Frog & Slim have almost 600 reviews, but they were rated over 4.5 stars, the photos of the dishes and the ambiance intrigued me. Then when I looked at the full menu, the drinks sounded so interesting and unique. I found myself already planning out my meal. I arrived on a Tuesday night and there was a good crowd but no wait. Since I was alone, I opted for the bar. And it was one of those lit up counters, very elegant. Kimberly greeted me right away and she was so warm & friendly. We hit it off right away. Then I asked for recommendations and settled on the rack of lamb with celery puree and asparagus. WOW 🤩 I had two cocktails that were delicious, loved them both, and the maple bread pudding was heavenly. You probably won’t have any leftovers - their potions are just the right size. If you have a healthy appetite, you may want to start with an appetizer. Two drinks, my entree, and dessert set me back about $120. There are entrees that cost a bit less, but I splurged on the drinks because there were a couple that were calling my name. And they didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to go back! I’m in Sacramento every few months and I’ll have to make sure to visit again. I also met the owner, Robert, during my meal. He checked in with everyone to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Overall the perfect dining experience. Cheers!

We decided to check out there Vegan Chef Challenge offerings. We enjoyed each item on that menu along with the shoe string truffle fries without cheese and aioli. Other than that, not much in the way of vegan options. Hopefully they continue to experiment with seasonal vegan dishes. Its a cute place with supper club vibes.

This was our first time here. We were supposed to come for dinner back in May to celebrate my sister in laws birthday (she flew in from Las Vegas), but we couldn't make dinner due to illness. So in October, We came on a Saturday night without a reservation, but got seated immediately at the bar. We did notice a few tables that were left open as we ate and we thought, "what's with that?" But despite that, we received excellent customer service. Bartender adjusted the TV so we can watch the game more comfortably and Alysha our server was very attentive and informative of the menu. the food was A-mazing. Wife had Alaskan halibut, cooked to perfection, with a cucumber basil gimlet, and i had the Mussel and Shrimp Piccata pasta- YUM!!! So, so good. We will be back to try more of the menu. If in downtown Sacramento, give it a try.

Visited Frog & Slim for brunch and had such a great experience! We were served by Paul, who was amazing super attentive and friendly. We ordered the Turkish eggs, deviled eggs, and the croque madame. The cocktails were delicious! Every dish was flavorful and beautifully presented. The Turkish eggs especially stood out, perfectly balanced and unique. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to!

We went for lunch today… oh my! The food was amazing & the service was spectacular. A+ across the board, including ambience! Food: We ordered the steak sandwich & Wagyu Burger. Words can’t describe how delicious & juicy these dishes were. We’ll be back soon for the dinner menu. We were greeted by the owner who took great care of us. The head chef also stopped by to speak… Absolute must try, if you’re in Sacramento!

Google
Great restaurant with an amazing bar. Craft cocktails are great and we tried several starters, all great. Carpacio, mussels, deviled eggs. The olives were beautiful and meaty. For mains, we tried the octopus and the Halibut. Amazing! I thought the octopus was really unique with the sausage and it came as a whole coiled tentacle. Bartender makes a great whiskey sour.

My daughter and I share a birthday and what better way to celebrate is trying a new restaurant. She lives in Sacramento and picked frog and slim I really enjoyed their contemporary look and the coziness of the restaurant. She ordered truffle fries and I had salmon deviled eggs as an appetizer. Both were really good and had an excellent presentation. Our entrée later came out which was a dry aged ribeye and we split a caesar salad. Steak was cooked to Perfection and the Caesar salad wasn't overly sauced. We enjoyed our meal with a perfectly paired sparkling wine and rose. Definitely recommend coming to this establishment and have plans to try and come back for a brunch.

Google
They would have received a 5 for atmosphere but it was a bit loud for my tastes. The food was great and not as expensive as you'd expect for such an upscale spot. Our waiter was off the hook good and had great wine knowledge. I ordered steak for the first time in a long time. I had it med rare to rare and it melted in my mouth. We were with a group of 6 and every dish had me wanting. I was not charged a corkage which was a nice surprise too.

Yelp
Lovely place. Food was excellent. Cute bar with great cocktails. We had a party of 6 that turned into 8 so we waited at the bar while they accommodated us. Total bill was about $100/person including drinks and appetizers. Highly recommend the ribeye. It was their only steak, so despite it not being my favorite cut (due to the fat content), it was quite enjoyable. Lamb chops were great. Cooked perfectly.

Yelp
I'm giving 3 stars for the service. We were a large group on a busy night, and while our server was kind, there were noticeable delays with simple requests like refilling drinks and bringing water to the table. The ambiance was very nice, but the food didn't quite meet my expectations. Everyone was friendly and welcoming; however, I probably wouldn't return.

Yelp
Can you say fantastic! I loved all the jazz artwork around the room which helped you understand why the name of the restaurant is frog and Slim. We had a wonderful waitress. I think her name was Shar. She was very helpful. We were 10 people and ordered bruschetta a charcuterie board, and arincins. Everything was wonderful. Amongst the 10 of us, we had halibut, steak, pasta with muscles, and oyster risotto They drink very excellent whiskey and enjoyed every minute We are here from out of town and I would recommend this restaurant

Yelp
It's rare these days to get out for a nice dinner so I was really excited to check out Frog & Slim for a date night. From start to finish, I really enjoyed the dinner experience. I went here on a Friday night, no reservation but I was able to snag a couple of spots at the bar where we were sat at immediately. Atmosphere was casual but classy. Host was attentive to us and being at the bar got us access to some tasty drinks rather quick. Overall was really impressed with the service and how quick our food came out. Everything we got was delicious. Of the appetizers, the creole arancini was amazing. I loved the heat of creole spice. I had the dry aged ribeye while my date went with the braised pork shank. Both courses meant business. Food was cooked to perfection and we both had plenty to take home. Our waiter suggested frying up an egg and eating it with the pork shank which we did the next day. Thank you for the suggestion! Dessert to cap the night was not an option. We went with the pumpkin crème brûlée because it's that season! Being the chocolate fein I am, I got the truffles. A great cap to a delicious Evening. I really look forward to returning to Frog & Slim!

Yelp
Such a nice 'Supper Club'. The food was delicious. Location and parking are convenient Service was good. Craft cocktails, nice wine selection, limited beer options. Photo's are of lamb dish, waygu burger, ribeye dish, and bread pudding dessert.

Yelp
Had a reservation for 3 last Sunday evening to celebrate my 60th birthday .. The ambiance was nice and cozy! Our server was attentive and friendly, I am so sorry I forgot her name ! The reservation time was 7pm. Each of us enjoyed our menu selections . The only complaint I had was with my Rib Eye Steak, I ordered it med well , however it came out very well done , I mentioned it to our server, who rectified the situation immediately and I reorder my steak med which I never do , however it came back perfect. Flavorful and seasoned to perfection! ..For dessert we had the Crème brûlée which was good , however the bread pudding was a little taste of heaven, so delicious! Thank you Frog and Slim , we'll be back , until next time, Happy Eating!

Yelp
Took my significant other for her birthday dinner. I did some research and Frog and Slim was my choice. First let me say that the experience was fantastic from beginning to end. The space was very understated with music themed art on the wall. The menu was chock full of good looking choices, great looking meat and fish dishes with everything in between. We got the delicious truffle fries for an appetizer, very flavourful and crunchy begin our meal. My lovely companion got the braised lamb shank and I had the mussels and shrimp picatta pasta. Mine was chock full of seafood with a tasty sauce, delicious sauce. I tried the lamb shank amazing. I also had a great speciality bourbon cocktail which was also great. We ran into Slim at the restaurant, a most genial host and we let him know about our most enjoyable experience at his establishment. We will be back with our friends.

Yelp
We were recently really craving steaks. This was our second visit here. Again we had a great dining experience. As we walked in we were greeted by Robert. He is the Slim in Frog and Slim. He quickly seated us. Our server, Ashley did a great job of answering our questions and handling our order. We both started with the refreshing cucumber basil gimlet. Our appetizer of deviled eggs was delicious. Very smooth with a little smoked salmon and caviar on top. We love caviar, but these would be a great introduction to caviar. The flavors blended so well. The caviar was more like a subtle salty whisper. We both ordered ribeye steaks medium rare. They were perfect. Probably the best steaks we've had here in Sacramento. We share$ the bread pudding desert. This was accompanied by a splash of Port wine to enhance the flavors blended. We talked with Robert about how much we enjoyed our meal. He told us that Frog and Slim is one of the top 100 date night locations in the U.S. We hope many more accolades come their way.

Yelp
Sigh... I had such hope after seeing the other yelp reviews. We went for brunch and had a subpar at best meal. The bread pudding was fine but doused in so much caramel sauce that you had to drain the sauce off before taking a bite. The omelet was overcooked. The salad was overly salted. The eggs Benedict sat on an English muffin so hard you had to put serious muscle into the knife to even cut off a bite. The hollandaise lacked flavor. And, all the food came out lukewarm. The restaurant gets 3 stars for only 3 reasons: 1 for the nice waitress, 1 for the properly poached egg on the Benedict, and 1 for having a parking lot next to the building. I will not return.

Yelp
Frog & Slim has a great Midtown location. The parking can be scarce though since it's a busy street. The inside is nice-to-casual with jazz themed decor. Their chandeliers are a pretty addition. There is indoor and outdoor seating plus a handful of seats at the bar. The service was good. We were greeted and seated right away. It was loud in there though, so it was hard to hear our soft-spoken server. The menu is limited but has some good options. The drink menu is fairly robust in comparison. We were there on a busy Friday night - graduation and Father's Day weekend, so we did have to wait awhile for our drinks. There was a bit of a lull between our appetizers and entrees as well. We all liked our drinks, however the entrees were hit or miss. The dry-aged ribeye tasted good but a little overcooked for my husband's preference. The sides - potato and green beans were a bit undercooked. I liked my pasta, but the mussels were a bit stronger in flavor than I liked. I set them aside and ate the shrimp instead. The portions were good sized. The desserts were delicious. I think you can't go wrong on the desserts here. They even brought us an extra house made truffle for my husband's birthday. Overall, I think our meal was fine, but the atmosphere wasn't quite what we were expecting. I also think enough of our party was on the fence about their entrees that I'm giving fewer stars than I usually would. I think we'd come back for a more casual dining experience and maybe try some different menu items next time.

Yelp
My husband and I really enjoy coming here! The old-fashioned is one of our favorites and normally don't even like bourbon! However it was getting to the point that he'd order his and I'd drink it, so I decided I should just get my own! Last night we started with the bruschetta - OMG. The bread was perfection and the tomatoes divine! Hubs had the burger and truffle fries. Those fries.... More please!! I had the lasagna. It was tasty and came with a basic spinach salad that was the star of my plate in my opinion. We finished the evening with the espresso crème brûlée. It was okay - a little too much shell on top and too little custard for me to give it 5 stars. Our server, Janelle, is always a treat! Everyone helps out though, so we appreciate that! It was a pretty quiet night there, but we went early before the show at Music Circus.

Yelp
When Italian Goes Missing in Action... Went there with 3 friends tonight. It wasn't packed but decently busy. The place itself is small and kind of cute. Sadly, the food was a disaster mixed with friendly but almost non-existent service. We waited almost an hour for our food. I asked if my piccata pasta with clams and shrimp could be cooked very al dente, and the waitress told me the pasta was already pre-cooked... not a good sign. I still ate it because I was starving. It was lemony, but the capers were almost invisible, and it was far from a true piccata. Traditionally, piccata should have fresh pasta texture, bold lemon, briny capers, and a buttery white wine balance--this was just flat and tired. For appetizers, we ordered bruschetta and olives. The olives came with no dish for the pits, so we ended up leaving them on the same plates where we were trying to set our bruschetta. Details count! The bruschetta itself was overdressed, loaded with halved cherry tomatoes drowning in balsamic. Too sweet instead of the fresh, garlicky, vibrant flavors you expect. The bread was way too toasted, tasted like store-bought bread thrown in the oven, not rustic Italian. We spent close to $100 per person, but honestly, it wasn't worth even half of that. The best part of dinner? A glass of sparkling rosé... which I can get pretty much anywhere. Would I go back? No. Would I recommend? Only if you have no idea what Italian food should look or taste like.

Yelp
A good spot downtown. It wasn't a busy Thursday early evening when we came here for dinner. I got the Cucumber Basil Gimlet, it was okay, sweeter than what I was expecting (and I like sweet drinks). We ordered the beef carpaccio which was good, but honestly I was expecting the plate to be covered as I have gotten elsewhere. For the main entrees, I ordered the Golden Beet Salad and it was pretty good, and again I was expecting a little more than how it was served. The Wagyu Burger was good, overly huge, a little overwhelming. Overall, food was okay, they are small portions (except the burger) so if you're hungry and expecting a decent fulfilling meal, you may have to order a couple of entrees to feel good. Nice ambience, clean, friendly service, music notes cutouts above the seat bench adds a nice touch.

Yelp
Frog & Slim is listed as one of several local participating restaurants that gives 10% off when you present your same-day tickets for Broadway On Tour or Broadway at Music Circus before or after the show. Dine-in food only, may not include alcohol, can't be combined with other offers or Happy Hour, recommend reservations. I tried one of their small bites at the California Restaurant Association's inaugural Paws, Pubs and Grubs event at the Sac Railroad Museum last November but didn't get to stop in for January's Dine Down Restaurant Week. Friday night reservations for 2 ahead of the Tina Turner musical at SAFE PAC, seated right away and had one server +1 shadowing. The jazzy supper club vibe was cool and more cozy than cramped. No Happy Hour menu that I saw. For drinks, Felicia got a glass of the rosé and I inquired about available mocktails. One was a sweet pomegranate-based mocktail, and another was a spicy mango-based drink. I picked the mango which was like a mangonada with tajin rim. Lenten Friday for me, but still a decent amount of veg/seafood options to try. For starters, we shared one order the Bruschetta and one order of the Deviled Eggs. Both of these were very refreshing and tasty. For main, we shared one order of the mussels and shrimp piccata pasta. Share plates were provided for the appetizers, the main was not able to be physically split before coming to the table. No new share plates brought out with the entree, other than a small bowl and spoon for the mussel shells. Service was great, very mindful of the timing since we had a show to get to. For that same reason, we did not have room/time for any dessert. Note that a 3% service fee is added to stated menu prices for all dine-in bills to help provide a livable wage and benefit for their team (not a gratuity). Two-stall restroom at the end of the hallway facing 16th Street was fine. The walk to/from the theater was also not too bad. We parked closer to the theater, but if you're strictly dining then I would suggest the East End Garage instead.

Yelp
If you are looking for a place with nice ambience and service then this is a good choice. Although the food was good, I felt it was overpriced for what it was. I guess with the type of establishment it is and the pricing of the menu, I was expecting more. I felt the items on the menu were just average things you find anywhere else (for cheaper), nothing special. Again, the food was good and the ambience is great, but I think I was underwhelmed with my overall experience.
google avatar

Frances T.

Yelp
First ever visit was to celebrate a dear friend's birthday. Enjoyed the ambiance, our server was great, and the food and wine were quite tasty. Great place for a date night. Will definitely be going back. Located on corner of 16th and O Streets, there is metered street parking as well as a small (pay to park) lot behind the business(es). Parking will almost always be problematic downtown.

Yelp
Wait, these people are so friendly! I just stopped in to grab my to-go order but left feeling so energized by the staff interactions. I was there on a Friday evening and the place was packed. Jazz vibes. Reminded me of Nola a bit. Ok, now let's get to the food. The steak was perfect, as were my veggie sides. Excellent date nite spot!

Tracy E.

Yelp
Was disappointed with the menu given it's a steakhouse really wasn't that much to chose from. Ambience is marginal service as well . Won't return
google avatar

Yelp
Very clean establishment with welcoming service. The menu has great choices. For an appetizer we had the muscles. For dinner we had the Pork Shank and Ribeye. You cannot go wrong with either choice, very delicious and comfort food. For dessert we tried the popular espresso creme brulee. Def an espresso kick to it.

Yelp
Whew what to say. We came here Friday night with friends for dinner. I had a spiced pear sidecar which was amazing. I also ordered the Braised Pork Shank Braised Au Jus | Yukon Potato Mash | Chutney | Pea Shoots. Omg my food was so flavorful and the meat was tender I'm talking meat falling off the bone. Service was amazing as the waiter was aware of all the different food items and drinks and had the ability to explain different things like flavor or spice or the veggies coming from the garden. The ambiance of the reservation was nice. Can be date night or can be drinks with the girls any day of the week. Can't wait to come back

Yelp
Local Neighborhood vibes at this trendy Sacramento"Farm to Fork" spot Ambiance: Hip, funky Art Attire: casual +, cool Crowd: foodies, locals Age: all Food 8/10 Service: Server 1 2/10 Server 2 10/10 This is a pretty long walk from downtown but an easy Uber. It's in a cute neighborhood and has a we love locals, hip/trendy vibe. Place was packed. This is one of the strangest dining experiences I've had maybe ever. This was an important business dinner with two clients. There were four of us total. The booths are very small and not super comfortable. We had two people that were larger in size with us and they barely fit between the table and the wooden booth. Also, I saw it was set for six people, and four of us barely fit into the space. When I asked our first server if she recommended one of two wines from the wines by the glass list I was deciding between, she gave me a blank stare and said it's kind of like choosing between Budweiser and Bud Light. Huh? She did later admit she does not drink wine. Drinks, including wine, took a very long time to get to the table. Overall, this menu confused me. Every dish had something that threw me off. (Smoked cheese on the salad, etc) We visited a few weeks ago and I looked at today's menu and thought I would love every single thing on this menu so I think we just went during an off time for the menu vs my tastes. Like all the restaurants in Sacramento it is bacon forward. Which, of course, who doesn't love bacon? And had a beet salad. Two people in our group ordered the pasta dish. Two of us ordered the chicken confit, which sounded delicious. I must be right because it was 7 PM on Sunday, but the server came back and said that they were out of chicken so both of us switched to the pasta dish. Mussel and Shrimp Piccata Pasta (Prince Edward Island Mussels | Gulf Coast Shrimp | Shallots | Pecorino Cheese | Lemon Caper White Wine Sauce | Melody Tomato) This dish was delicious. Very creamy and full of deep umami/briney (it's not a word, I know!) flavors. we did all enjoy it thoroughly. At some point, our first server had enough of us ‍ (seriously we were not obnoxious) and pawned us off on a second server who ended up being fantastic, friendly and super attentive. I wish we had had him from the start.

Yelp
My friends love coming here! The Old-Fashioned is one of our favorites--even though I'm usually not a bourbon fan. we kicked things off with the bruschetta--absolutely amazing! The bread was perfect, and the tomatoes were divine. I had the lasagna, which was delicious, and it came with a simple spinach salad that, in my opinion, stole the show. We wrapped up with the espresso crème brûlée. It was decent, but a bit too much caramelized top and not enough custard for me to give it a full 5 stars.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I stopped by on a weeknight for his birthday. We ordered the heart of gold cocktail, mussels appetizer, the dry aged ribeye, the grilled octopus, the espresso creme brûlée, and got a free birthday chocolate truffle. Per recommendation, we got the mussels with extra garlic bread. The mussels were well cooked, not overdone at all. The leeks and onions were a wonderful textural addition. My only complaint was that it was a bit salty for my taste. The ribeye was really great, well cooked and paired well with the demiglace sauce. The octopus was also great. Good texture and good pairings with it. All in all, the entrees were well done, albeit a bit pricy for what they were. The espresso creme brûlée was the star of the show! Great texture, nice crust, and subtle espresso flavor that you definitely tasted, but weren't overwhelmed by. The chocolate truffle was not my favorite, a hair gritty texture-wise. Service is great. Everyone is so kind and attentive, and such great banter and recommendations. The restaurant itself is small but cute, kind of reminds me of restaurants in SF with a nice jazzy, music theme. The restaurant and bathrooms were immaculately clean. I'd definitely recommend this for a date night or dinner with a few friends. There are just enough options for variety in dishes, good cocktails, and great ambience + service.

Yelp
Come for the Mango Mimosa, Stay for the Bread Pudding! SITREP Fellow GalPal Yelper Extraordinaire Mitzi A. took me - with her friends Grumpy & Happy - to check out Frog & Slim, a wonderful brunch spot along 16th Street on the border between Downtown & Midtown Sacramento. THE SETUP Beautiful interior that at once reminded me of a more *upscale* Fox & Goose (another popular weekend brunch spot in Downtown Sacramento), and indeed the prices did in fact reflect that fact. Always a good seating diversity when you have a choice between tables and booths. LE MENU Items tried and enjoyed: *Mango Mimosa - fresh mango puree with champagne! *Meat Charcuterie Board - included sausage, brisket, bacon, YUM! *Shrimp & Grits - seared shrimp on yummy, creamy grits *Class Turkey BLT *Classic Eggs Benedict - a wholesome twist on a beloved classic! *English Bread Pudding The service was on point and constantly attentive all throughout the meal. PARKING Fairly easy to find a spot along the block's metered curb in front of the restaurant and also around the block on the side lettered-streets. THE LOWDOWN A most excellent brunch spot! Perfect to bring your significant other to *bump up* from your usual weekend IHOP or Denny's forways, or to bring your family to for that good impression you want to leave them with!

Yelp
Dinned at Frog & Slim for the first time on a Sunday evening date night. It was nice and quiet evening, and not very busy at this particular time. After arriving we checked in with the host, who promptly seated at a small table right at the beginning of the bar and kitchen area. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful and when asked, gave her personal opion on appetizers, drinks and main courses. She was also very attentive asked asked from time to time how we were enjoying our meals; even asking what drinks were our favorites from our selections throughout the evening. Drinks: Poached Pear Margarita (F&S Cocktail) Spiced Pear Sidecar (F&S Cocktail) Chenin Blanc, Apeture (White Wine) Sauvignon Blanc, Quivira (White Wine) Appetizers: Marinated olives Bruschetta Main Course: Grilled New York Muscles & Shrimp Piccata Pasta Dessert: Bread pudding Everything we order was really good, from the drinks to the appetizers, to our main dishes, and even desert. I really liked the Poached Pear Margarita which was made with handmade Pear puree, and surpringly also really liked the Spiced Pear Sidecar. The appetizers were also really delicious, especially the marinated olives. My muscles & Shrimp Piccata was nicely done as well. The only minor issue noted by my girlfriend was that the steak was a little fatty & gristely in some particular areas. It was cooked to her likely however, but the fatty areas weren't enjoyable like they can be in many cases. So she removed them. Overall: Delicious food, Great environment and decor, and friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
Jazz music welcomes you as soon as you sit down, and this place is very upscale and snazzy. The exposed industrial pipes on the ceiling matches the metal booth dividers, which have music notes carved into them, and the table, that have a painted metal look. They do have quite a few tables and booths for such a small staff. The hostess was polite and helpful and the wait staff was especially friendly. We came here for Sacramento's Dine Downtown week. We ordered the goat cheese croquettes, the wagyu lasagna, the linguine vongole (clams), and the baked zucchini bread. I found the meal good, but not amazing. The croquettes were very flavorful and served in a marinara sauce that could have been a little warmer, but again great flavor. The lasagna and linguine were both fine. I found them pretty basic. The meat in the lasagna did not taste like a special cut of meat but I guess what more can you do with ground beef? For a restaurant, with so much hype, I was a little let down. Everything was executed well, just nothing special. Same with the baked zucchini bread. Good flavor, a little sweet, baked well, not special.

Yelp
I can't say enough about this place. It's just such a gem and Sacramento is lucky to have this very talented chefs vision brought to life in this city. The service is awesome! I always make a reservation on Open Table and am seated immediately. The wait staff is awesome! I have never had a bad experience with any of the waiters or waitresses. The drinks are perfection! I have tried almost all of them and they're crafted to perfection. They sort of take you away to whatever flavor they are crafted with. The food is amazing. The truffle fries with the most delicious aioli. Scrumptious deviled eggs are always a good start. The wedge salad is perfection and has ruined every other wedge salad for me. The dressing, Pop of grapes, nuts, crisp bacon and cheese are a texture heaven. Always order your dish with the creamiest mash potatoes that must be whipped in heaven. The carpaccio is another must!! It's simply perfection and just has to be had that's all there is to it. The flavor and crisp crostinis are just yummy. The ribeye is a favorite I always ask for the command butter on mine. You're welcome in advance! The mussels appetizer is so delicious. Which leads me to... Oh gosh how can I forget the mussel and shrimp pasta!! I nearly melted in my chair the first time I had it!!! My husband doesn't even like pasta and was blown away. The bread with it nearly started an argument as my husband dared to eat the last bite! lol this dish is so good it has it's own paragraph. I tried the brunch recently and it was also so yummy. I only have one regret and that's not allowing myself the French toast as a desert. Have no fear I'll be back. My friend got the biscuits and gravy which was a chipotle sauce I think which I am not a fan of anywhere so I didn't really like it. But the hot Brie plate was soooo yummy. The eggs Benedict with the house made sauce were such a treat. The music is always good and evenings are always lively! Definitely need to have my bday dinner here this year! Frog and Slim you are perfection!

Yelp
Made a reservation for 7pm. Waited until 8pm to finally be sat down. Worker and owner came up and apologizing for the wait, but offered no reimbursement for our time. Upon sitting down, one of my party members' napkin cloth was visibly soiled. I have never been to a restaurant that is lazy and does not wash their towel cloths so that was already another bad start to our dinner! We informed the waitress about it, she said she would replace it, but never got back to it. She clearly ignored the soiled napkin that was placed on the edge of the table ESPECIALLY while she was grabbing everyone's empty appetizer plates. So until we prompted her after a while of her coming back to fill up our waters and STILL ignoring the soiled napkin instead grabbing with the dirty dishes she had collected two different times previously. She said she would bring back sauce, she didn't. She said she would bring a sprite as promised. She didn't. Until prompting her for the final time she then brought back 3 napkins (unnecessarily as we only needed 1 since the beginning) and brought back 2 sprites instead of 1 to make up for not bringing back the sprite which again, was not needed. Instead of bringing extra things to try and get a good tip! Maybe instead, we should've been given i don't know, a discount on our food for the long wait and neglect or maybe a free dessert instead of fake apologies! So now, onto the FOOD. DISGUSTING. OVERPRICED. UNDERCOOKED. DRENCHED IN SAUCE. DRY CHICKEN. I don't know what else to say... One of our party members ordered a MEDIUM rare burger, IT CAME OUT PINK!!! RAW!!! SO RAW!!! He lost his appetite! Now onto the steak, there was SO MUCH FAT, that cooks clearly didn't bother at least cutting off but there was HARDLY ANY MEAT. The chicken?? DRY, every bite into the skin portion there was a sprig of rosemary that kept inconveniencing every bite and ruining my palette. And the wedge salad??? It was supposed to come with onions, but there were no onions. I know the place is busy, but the neglect and service we waited an HOUR for despite having a reservation IN ADVANCE, was completely unacceptable. The wedge salad was drowned in ranch or whatever THAT was... no one at our table enjoyed the meal we waited so long for. To add to that, we were celebrating my nephew's birthday. Do you what they brought out? A TINY BITE SIZED MACAROON that they called a "truffle"?!! The total amount?? I don't even want to say. This place is just overpriced and disgusting, marketed as a "fancy place" but I say, there's nothing fancy about my FIRST experience today. Will not be coming back, or recommending this place to anybody.

Yelp

Yelp
Fantastic brunch! The owner "Slim" greeted us and gave us 5 treatment. The deviled rag and pork belly that the chef sent out was amazing. The mimosas with the peach purée were the perfect addition to my Turkish Eggs. 10/10 will be back.

Yelp
I've been to Frog & Slim twice and both times I left so satisfied. The restaurant has a moody vibe but still feels super welcoming. The staff has always been really kind and attentive without being over the top, which I appreciate. Both times I started with the deviled eggs and had the braised pork shank as my main. I can't lie, I might be obsessed. The deviled eggs are creamy and flavorful and the little bit of caviar on top adds something special without being too fancy. And the pork shank? Incredible. It's rich, fall off the bone tender and full of flavor. I almost wish it wasn't so good so I'd be tempted to try something new, but here I am... coming back for the same thing every time. Frog & Slim is definitely one of my go to spots in Sacramento now. It just hits every time.

Yelp
Looking for a nice dining spot in Sacramento and my trusty Yelp never lets me down. Found Frog and Slim which was a reasonable drive from the hotel (where we had enjoyed a great meal the night before). Frog and slim was a hip little spot on a strip filled with night spots. I liked what we found. The room was a jazzy little place with good jazz playing in background while we enjoyed the Kobe Beef Carpaccio traditionally dressed with capers and arugula plus a unique creamy olive aoili. Next we split the golden beat salad with goat cheese and arugula with sweet dressing. The highlight was the seafood pasta with shrimp, mussels capers, shredded cheese and gremalotta. Delicious! The seafood was cooked perfectly and was full of flavors. Service was good with a decent wine selection. Go. You will enjoy it.

Yelp
Friends and I had a wonderful Sunday brunch at F&S last weekend. Our server was fabulous and the food was delicious. We did a "sampling" approach where we ordered various dishes and then shared (and our server was most gracious in bringing us plates for this purpose and then enabling us to split the check). All in all, a great experience.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for our anniversary and I have to commend the excellent service we got from start to finish! Shout out to Jack our server! Upon arriving we were greeted with a smile and felt so welcomed. Once we got settled in Jack asked if we wanted to started off with any drinks then gave us a breakdown of the menu must haves after. I got a non-alcoholic mango drink which would've been such a treat with alcohol and my husband got a Hennessy & coke. Jack was extremely knowledgeable about the menu items and informed us of where the food was locally sourced. This I love! And it also means they have a seasonal menu throughout the year. FYI, the new menu should be out by now which we want to come back and try! To start off we got the Fried Arancini. Then based on such convincing recommendation we chose the Braised Pork Shank and to have a balance with our whole meal since we were sharing I opted for the Chicken Confit. Oh my goodness... this the most exquisite dinner we've had in a while. Fried Arancini - Perfectly fried, risotto nicely cooked & seasoned (10/10) Braised Pork Shank - Succulent, fall off the bone tender, undeniable flavor (10/10) Chicken Confit - Wish the skin was more crispy, chicken was soft & juicy, cooked in confit (chef's kiss) (8/10) Our whole experience was outstanding. We've been bragging about this place to all our friends and family and can't wait to come back to try their new menu! Highly recommend coming here.

Yelp
Upscale speakeasy vibe with a varied, contemporary menu. I appreciated the warm welcome, the maitre D was charming and returned to us periodically to check up on us and ensure we weren't lacking in anything. Great appetizers, the carpaccio and the deviled eggs were amazing. Everyone loved their mains, but I was floored by the lasagna, rich mushroom and fresh pasta, it was truly great. Cocktails are great, didn't even look at the beer selection.

Yelp
The food is delicious! I had the biscuits and gravy it was the best I've ever had. I've also tried my friend's steak sandwich and the steak was so tender and delicious. The truffle fries are almost like shoestring fries and of course delicious. The service was great! And the ambience inside is so nice like jazzy music. I also sat outside and it was nice enclosed space.

Yelp
We came here for a friend's birthday. We made reservations and were taken to our table right away. We were table to order some shareable and our dishes we order was also yummy we had order some mix drinks and they was tasty. The restaurant has like a southern vibe and it was well decorated. There were a lot of people there so we was happy we had reservations.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience! We ordered deviled eggs, charcuterie board, mussels and truffle fries to start and they were all spectacular. Then we had the pork shank, Halibut and Ribeye for our mains. Everything was top notch! Our waiter, Jack, was extremely delightful. The restaurant was located in a very nice area of Sacramento that none of us had ever been. It's nice getting out of your comfort zone sometimes and this was worth the trip

Yelp
We had dinner here with friends last night. I had a glass of the Bonny Doon Grenache ($13) and my wife had a glass of the Pedroncelli Rose ($14). We split a Golden Beet salad ($17) - it was a delicious though a little on the sparse side even if it had been for one person. We also split the Mussels and Shrimp picatta pasta ($36). This too, was flavorful and very delicious. However, our friends order the lasagna. We each tried a bite and found that it was bland with no seasoning. How do you make a lasagna with no tomatoes? I know every chef likes to put their own spin on a classic dish but come on! The decor was nice, and the place looked fairly well filled. Service was good. That said, it was bit disappointing for the price. We had just been to Los Angeles the weekend before. Why are Sacramento prices higher than there? All in all, a mixed experience for Frog & Slim.

Yelp
As of now, this is where this place stands. This was my second time eating here. The first time was at the bar steak was great, drinks were good, and since I was at the bar, who really cares about customer service. Today was my second visit, and I'd like to say the overall experience was strange. The location opens at 5, we arrived at 5:30 with no reservations, and we were seated immediately. That's the only plus. After being seated by the bar, our server or host, not sure which arrived. But not for long. After taking our order for Caesar salads, he was never seen again. The lack of service was so bad that the bartender came from behind the bar and asked, "Is he serving you?" I said, "I guess at this point," and she went out of her way to fix the honestly speaking "bullshit service" being given to my mother and me. After placing our entrée order with the bartender, nearly 15 minutes after ordering our salads I asked, "Are the salads done?" At that point, the owner brought them out. Now my table is being attended to by the bartender and the owner/table expeditor instead of one of the three servers hired to serve. At this point, I look around and notice every other table is being attended to by servers except mine, which is being attended to by a bartender. No woke agenda here, but I am a Black male. Take from that what you want. I would like service to be equal across the board. If the table next to me can get a normal server who checks on them and takes plates away when they're done instead of leaving salads and empty drinks sitting. I'd like that service too. After the lack of service to just my table, I began to feel disrespected and asked to speak to the manager about the different treatment. The owner spoke about what had transpired, but I'm unsure if he could see why I felt the way I did. He did offer to pay for the meals, but at this point I came to pay for a service, not be a charity case. I finished my drink and left. I stream literally around the corner on P St., so if this issue is fixed I'd be glad to give them another chance and pay for my meal, no need for a free one. But as of now, the vibes are "not for me." Here is your opportunity, change my mind.

Yelp
This place is excellent!! Went for dinner on a Saturday night and it did not disappoint. The place was packed. Had reservations and only had to wait around 10-15 minutes to be seated. We started with the deviled eggs which were heavenly. We collectively ordered the scallops, rib eye and the veggie lasagna. Everything was amazing!! Wanted to try the desserts but I was just too full. Our server was very attentive which made the experience even better. Can't wait to go back and try something new!

Yelp
We went there for dinner , after dinner we ordered a bread pudding to go with, when we got home and opened it we found out it was either someone's left overs or some kind of a French onion soup I called to let them know and the guy kept telling me it's the cream caramel sauce that goes over it , I kept telling him it's a soupy or gravy and smells like meat., and he kept arguing with me , didn't even offer a free desert for the mistake , just a refund .. very disappointed with the level of service

Yelp
Honestly the only highlight of the evening were the two gentlemen that greeted us. One blonde and one brunette (I think he was Latin). They were very polite and welcoming, otherwise the rest of the evening was just miserable ‍. It started off decent but unfortunately, the service was horrendous and the food was incredibly bland. The deviled eggs were absolutely boring (so sad because I was excited about them), the carpaccio was blah, the steak (although happily cooked to temperature) was bland, the pork was obviously boiled and meh, the beet salad was okay, all the sides were just okay (although under-seasoned as well), and the crème brûlée was burnt. I don't mean to say that the sugar was well "burned"balanced, but too hotly burned and too quickly and therefore made to taste burnt and very badly. The worst part was the waitress, Alysha C. Not once did she check on us. Not once did she fill our water glasses. Not once did she fill our wine glasses. Not once did she ask how everything was, if we needed anything, etc. etc. etc. She didn't offer a decanter. She didn't clear our plates, but instead we constantly had to stack them up and place them to one side of the table and kindly the expediters and others would finally sometimes come and grab them. She was truly horrible. Her personality was not welcoming, warm, not warranted a tip whatsoever, but of course we left something begrudgingly. Due to her terrible service, we will NOT be returning and giving the kitchen another try (assuming that possibly it may have been an "off" night). Even if the food was incredible, terrible service ruins the entire time and I would rather have just decent food and phenomenal service than have amazing food and craptastic service any day! Thanks for ruining our experience Alysha and thanks for ensuring that we never return to Frog and Slim. I hope they realize how miserable you are and get rid of you. You weren't even busy to be so rude and terrible at your job.

Yelp
My souse and I have been IN-LOVE with this spot since their opening. Food, ambience, service... ALL top notch. Well until our last visit. We walked in and the vibe was definitely different. We didnt see many familiar faces within the staffing either. Place was busy, as usual. We ordered a drink while we looked at the menu, which we noticed was condensed, which we thought was odd but still looked forward to our experience there. 30+ minutes later, after many others around us ordering after us are have gotten their drinks, and after asking our waitress for our drinks, we were told our drinks were next up.. as we watch the bartender move at a snails pace to not make our drinks but yet another persons order. We had yet to receive ours or even have staff follow up with us to order. Finally ordered and got our drinks, old fashioned was not the same, overly sweet, my cocktail was not put on a block like it should be... just things we had never experienced at our favorite splurge dinner spot. We got our food: Mussels, Arancini and bruschetta... which we had assumed are all the same dishes since it's the same restaurant lol. There was sand in the mussels and the sauce definitely did not taste the same as what we've had before. The Arancini weren't bad. The bruschetta was also different and not for the better. We were hugely disappointed on every level. In researching, it looks like their head chef has changed and boy did that make more sense as to what we experienced (partially). We are so sad but we probably will not be returning. It was so good while it lasted RIP to the old frog and slim.

Yelp
Delayed review of Dine Downtown in January. The wagyu lasagna was really good, all the food here was amazing quality so I will definitely be back for their regular menu. The portions were generous, we definitely left full. The service was great and I like the theme of the restaurant.

Yelp
Our first time at Frog and Slim and we were not disappointed. The place is medium sized with a cool Jazzy interior. Everyone here was having the New Years Eve dinner special which was a reasonable $135 pp plus $45 for a generous wine pairing. Our food was delicious with the Cioppino and Short Rib being our favorites. My only complaint would be the dessert was tasty but underwhelming. The staff was friendly and attentive. One of the owners, Robert aka Slim welcomed each table and even served food. We had a friend drop in to say HNY during dinner and Robert graciously brought her a bowl of soup to make her feel welcome. Bravo on the service Slim! It's not often we find people willing to go the extra mile to make patrons feel special.

Yelp
Sooo I may have done a full wine tasting before I walked over to Frog & Slim to meet my friend for dinner. Everything about the experience was wonderful and upscale. Our waiter gave great recommendations, and we ended up splitting the Deviled Eggs, Mussels, and Steak. All that and the Dirty Martini I enjoyed makes me want to come back! It's been awesome experiencing Midtown Sacramento as an adult, and with restaurants like Frog & Slim, no wonder their neighborhood has a good reputation. Since I took rideshare, I can't speak to parking but reservations were easy to make online. Controversial amongst the locals I talked to, but I would personally recommend this place.

Yelp
I've only been here once, my date took me here. It's kinda on the edge of downtown and didn't know this place existed. I like the cute cozy decor which reminds me of Europe or East village New York, good wine selection and good food and good dessert. I will definitely go back there!

Yelp
This place is amazing, the food, the service the atmosphere is top tier. This is one of the best restaurants in the Sacramento area. Not a lot of places can compare to this spot. The are expensive but it is worth every single penny, dime, quarter and dollar. Gone go.
