Beer, wine, food trucks, pickleball, and live music await

"The Austin beer scene circa the early 2000s involved sitting at a rickety picnic table in an industrial building; now, the brewery experience involves pickleball courts, Astroturfed picnic areas, beautiful indoor areas, mocktails, and multiple food trucks. As befits its upscale Spicewood location, there’s a moneyed vibe to the setup here. The beer, however, is rock solid, especially the lighter styles like the Honey Blonde, kolsch, and Fest Bier. Pair them with an array of pizzas, burgers, pretzels, and salads; kids (and adults) can also partake in popsicles, ice cream, and Shirley Temples. There’s a decidedly fashionable crowd here, but the staff are welcoming, and the views and brews are well worth the drive." - Erin Russell

"The brewery is offering specials on gift cards, socks, and michelada packs for the day, and it is releasing its new 16 percent Imperial Stout beer. The taproom is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m." - Nadia Chaudhury

"Also located in Spicewood, the brewery offers six outdoor pickleball courts, which are reservations-only at $25 an hour with a one-hour minimum. The brewery has seven regular beers on tap with several others in seasonal rotation, like a Belgian golden ale or Mexican lager. Food truck Frontyard Food Co. is dishing up burgers, Bavarian soft pretzels, tacos, fries, and more." - Darcie Duttweiler

"Opening at 4514 Bob Wire Road in Spicewood this October, this new taproom and brewery will offer 16 taps with a mix of staples (including a coffee milk stout), newer beers like a hazy IPA, a 'Black is Beautiful' collaboration, several barrel-aged releases, and house-made root beer for kids. Moving into the nine-acre site increases annual brewing capacity tenfold and adds family-friendly amenities such as lawn games, kids’ activities, pickleball courts, live music, Hill Country views, and plans for an independently operated food truck; the space is intentionally designed to appeal to both families and adults. Founded in 2018 by brewers Kevin Jones and Chad Worner as a production-only operation with beers sold at retail locations, the team completed the buildout before the pandemic and emphasizes ample space for social distancing, though uncertainty about COVID-19 has complicated staffing and opening logistics." - Erin Russell
