Exploding Corona Bottle Blinded Staffer in One Eye, Suit Alleges | Eater NY

"At the Frying Pan, a historic floating barge and lightship, I learned that the spot's popular beer buckets have verged on dangerous: a former barback, Gonzalo Luis-Morales, says that in July 2017 a Corona Extra bottle burst while he was setting it in an ice bucket and sent glass into his left eye, leaving him permanently blind in that eye; he received nine stitches, had two eye surgeries, has been out of work, is now nervous around glass bottles, and has trouble leaving his house unaccompanied because of affected depth perception. His lawyer, John Danzi, alleges at least two other employees were injured by exploding Corona bottles before this incident and contends Corona skimped during the brewing/bottling process, warning that "when something goes wrong with the brewing or bottling process, you can end up with a grenade that’s waiting to explode." People still go mainly for the beer buckets, but the restaurant says that in the wake of the accident it immediately removed all Corona items from the menu and is "greatly saddened" and fully supportive of the injured employee; Luis-Morales is suing Corona's brewer Constellation Brands Inc., bottle manufacturer Owens-Illinois Inc., and distributor Manhattan Beer for negligence." - Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya

Took my family to the area a couple of weeks ago. Scott and Jean were amazing. We weren't sure what to do with our day, but Scott gave us a story of the Calvert Cliffs We left with a plan, some shark teeth, and fully planned day ahead of us. Great time! Try the rockfish!

Went here to enjoy some food after hiking. The options of tables were limited, but we did get to sit down immediately. Ordered with Devyn. Took on the minimum 30 minutes for our food to come out. (Wasn't really hungry when we arrived, sat there long enough to really get hungry.) I made an excuse that we were a party of four as the people who came in after were one partied and ordered blt sandwich. When we finally got the order, we were missing a meal. The cook shouted in the back but did make the food. Overall favorite was the pancakes and scrapple. I just think the service and atmosphere could use work.

This is an old-school, no-frills Mom and Pop type of place, but the food is tasty, prices are great, and we had no complaints about the service. Note - they do not service breakfast all day, but there's plenty to chose from on the lunch menu. I would definitely go back. (I was a little disappointed they were out of onion rings)

The Fying Pan is a place I visit often for breakfast. If you like a rustic atmosphere this is the place for you. The waitress, Devon, is the sweetest young lady you will ever meet. The food will take some time due to there being only one cook. He cooks to order and makes sure it's made correctly. Mr. Scott is a very nice man who works hard and doesn't get a lot of credit for it. If you want a fancy restaurant, go to Solomons. If you want down home cooking and aren't in a hurry this is the place.

This place has gone downhill. Service was very slow with just two tables. The ceiling has black mold. No a.c. in 100 degree weather. Flies everywhere. The meat was not done. Asked for new. Replacement was also pink. The guy clearly doesn't use a thermometer.

Delicious lil dive. They were understaffed but worth the wait. Coffee was strong and excellent plus we got lots of refills despite how busy it was. Pancakes, bacon, sausage, chipped beef gravy, fried potatoes and scrapple on our table were perfect. Plus I love the art on the walls, charming.

I feel like we really dodged a bullet here. My partner and I stopped in on a Friday morning around 8am for breakfast. We wanted to support a local business instead of visiting one of the many chain restaurants. We noticed the place was basically deserted with only 2 vehicles in the parking lot which would normally mean quick service at most places. The first few tables in the place had "Table Closed" signs on them which I'd never seen before. We seated ourselves along the left wall and waited for someone to notice and give us some menus and perhaps take a drink order. During our lengthy wait for service, we took the opportunity to look around us. There were the 2 patrons at the bar, sitting in silence. There was a cook in the kitchen hunched over the griddle. The ketchup on the table had never seen the inside of a refrigerator and judging by it's unusually dark color had been there for quite some time. The atmosphere was dim, bleak, and beyond hope. We had places to be and things to do so decided not to waste any more time there after being completely ignored for 5+ minutes. We eventually found another place for breakfast and went along our days activities. It was only much later that we read through the other reviews in detail since our experience did not live up to the 4.2 stars given on Google Maps. I'm glad we did not have our day ruined by what would likely have been a complete disaster of a meal and an unbelievable waste of time had we stuck around for any eventual "service".

I've been going to this place since before I was making memories and it's been a long-time family favorite. But recently it has gone far downhill. When we went on Sunday they told us they couldn't make the cream chipped beef or sausage gravy because of some problem with the recipe. My wife ordered hash and eggs and instead of getting actual hash like they originally had, or even the medallions which were pretty good, this time they served a gigantic slab of SPAM. If you like SPAM then I suppose it would have been tasty, but that's not what we ordered. The potatoes were very overcooked and there were pitifully few of them. We like the old-timey church basement atmosphere, and we were okay with the long wait times when there was good food on the other end, but now there's really no reason to go back. From now on we'll drive the extra 20 minutes north to Dreamweaver where we can get twice the portions and far better quality for basically the same price.
