Fuki Sushi

This remains one of my favorites in Palo Alto area. Offers authentic Japanese cuisine and the ambiance is Japanese style with great Japanese style floral display, enhancing the nice and quiet setting along the busy El Camino Real. It’s a place for business lunch or friends meeting place.

One of the best fish courses I ever had. The lady serving our table is very kind and thoughtful about any allergies or other requests we had. Good for gatherings, quiet and spacious. A little tricky to locate the restaurant at first but parking is sufficient.

Fuki Sushi is a Palo Alto institution that continues to impress with its fresh ingredients, generous portions, and consistently excellent service. We are sushi fanatics family who visit Tokyo enough to know what a great sushi is. We strongly recommend Fuki Sushi both for the sushi and the very authentic Japanese ambiance from the restaurant's interior design to the impeccable service from the wonderful staff. We think it is one of the very best sushi restaurants in all of South Bay. This restaurant is obviously run by caring people who are devoted to sharing great Japanese food and culture.

We hadn't dined here for several years. It was really nice to dine here again. Fuki Sushi reminds me of being in Japan. We really enjoy this type of setting for a Japanese restaurant. The nigiri sushi and sushi rolls are very good! Service was good, and the atmosphere was just okay because there was a little boy that was noisy. One great thing is that they also have Tatami rooms (Washitsu).

Good food and great staff. Authentic Japanese restaurant with traditional decor. The waiter helped us pick some good vegetarian options from the menu. We went on a weekday, so did not find any issue in finding a table. Parking is available at the back of the restaurant.

Best Japanese restaurant on the peninsula. Very Nice inside, expensive, but you get what you pay for, very high quality food and a comfy Japanese interior design. Their sake nigiri is some of the best i’ve ever had. Shout out to the chicken karage, their miso soup, and their ice cold Sapporo.

I’m a Palo Alto native and went back here recently for nostalgia, 20 years ago this was in my friends and families rotation. I ordered the chirashi and the quality of the fish was simply awful. Sashimi is not supposed to be hard or rubbery. This is not really a Japanese restaurant it’s a place to order chicken teriyaki or fried chicken. The service and atmosphere of the place was lovely but I felt ripped off spending $50 for an almost inedible lunch that was supposed to be a nice treat. As my Japanese mom says “Rich people who don’t know Japanese cuisine go . They like it because service is good.” She’s right and it’s a shame.

Had a blast grabbing dinner here. Very friendly waitstaff, clean environment and very tasty! Had my friend do the ordering, buuut wished they had an egg soup that they sold on during lunchtime, as well as Otoro option for their nigiri. Their uni wasn't too bad, pretty high up there in quality! Tofu was also good! There wasn't a thing I didn't like, tbh. Would come back!

Went to Fuki Sushi for a work lunch. The ambiance was calming and peaceful. It's on the quieter side, making it easy to have a conversation. There's a small number of parking space in the back. The service was attentive but very slow, so be sure to budget your time accordingly. The food was decent. The menu features both westernized rolls and traditional maki and sashimi. There are also preset lunch specials if you're unsure what to order. The fish was fresh, but overall I think the food was significantly overpriced for what you get. I'd recommend it for business meals!

I had a wonderful experience at Fuki Sushi. Everything was excellent- the food, service, and ambiance. The tea was especially delightful, and I was delighted with the decor. The staff was attentive and friendly, making the entire dining experience even better. Love the booth seating style. I would definitely return and recommend this spot to anyone looking for great sushi and a welcoming atmosphere!

The food was mediocre and definitely overpriced for what we got. I ordered the chicken teriyaki, and my husband had sushi. When ordering, the server asked if I wanted soup or salad, mentioning that it was included. Then, they immediately turned to my husband and asked, "Do you want soup or salad?" The way they phrased it made it seem like it was part of the meal, not an extra charge. We later noticed we had been charged $6 for the miso soup we barely touched--mainly because it wasn't good. We also weren't provided a spoon, which made it even less enjoyable. When I brought this up, the server checked with the manager, who refused to remove the charge, claiming the menu "should have been clear." But isn't it the server's job to provide clarification when needed? If we were misled into thinking the soup was included/complimentary, it should have been taken off the bill--no question. I've never been to a Japanese restaurant that asks if you want soup or salad, only to sneak in an extra charge like this. We were hoping for a nice dinner out, but this experience completely ruined our night. We won't be returning.

* Food* There are so many menu items that you will be surprised! Although this is a Japanese restaurant, there are many unusual dishes that I have never seen in Japan. It's good to have a variety of menus to try! *Service* Very nice! Hot tea was served before and after the meal. *Ambiance* The restaurant was clean, calm and we had a relaxing time!

I had a reservation for weekday dinner for 7pm and was seated almost immediately. I liked the ambience of the restaurant. They have limited parking so that's a bummer and the parking is at the back of the restaurant so not too straightforward. For appetizer I had the salmon jalapeno coroquette which was pretty good. Amongst the sushi rolls, I went for the California Uramaki, Spicy Tuna, Ebi Tempura Roll, Fire Dragon Roll and the Rainbow Roll. None of the rolls particularly stood out for me. The food seemed overpriced for what it was worth. There are much better sushi spots in the bay area for much lesser cost which are more worth it. Before going in I had seen the rating to be close to a 3 and I assumed it might be better than that and hence went here since I had bookmarked it for long but now I feel the current rating of 3.4 is justified.

SO. GOOD. I can't recommend this place enough. The only thing that bothers me is the parking, it's so limited we had to park across the street in a business park lot. The food, services, ambiance, EVERYTHING is fantastic. See picture attached.

Whether I eat at the restaurant or order to enjoy it at home, the food is always so delicious, and the service is exceptional. On our next special occasion, I will definitely order from here to introduce our guests to this amazing food. Ambiance of restaurant is nice as well. Thank you Fuki Sushi!

Solid service and sushi. Like the vibe and atmosphere. Close to home for quick dinner or lunch.

Theme: lackluster. I had such high hopes revisiting! We were incredibly hungry and had a reservation...and then waited 15 minutes after the reservation time to be seated. Not a huge deal. I think there was only one server and a few food runners and the place was packed. Because it was busy, the restaurant was incredibly loud on a Tuesday night around 8pm (which could be a positive for some folks!). They ran out of hamachi belly which was unfortunate, so we went with the California Uramaki instead (a mistake). The gold tobiko was fun, but it was lackluster and I ended up with a crab shell in my first piece. Kind of like getting an egg shell at breakfast - tainting the experience. The Negi-Hama Maki was a similar story. The green onion was fun but not worth the price point for the blandness. Now, the rainbow roll the first time we came? Amazing. This time? Lackluster. You can see from the photos the difference in quality. I will say, the Dragon Roll was A+. I'm a big fan. And the Spicy Citrus Scallop? The true star of the show. This would've been a 2 star experience if it weren't for the kindness of our server. He completely forgot about our waters (but it's ok because we had beer!) and he brought us some while we were paying the bill, which was unnecessary but kind. Total was a little over $100 before the tip. After my 5 star experience and this experience, I'd visit again, but I'm not prioritizing it.

Food is good and very Japanese. Prices are on the high side with good service and very good ambiance. very japanese i.e. menu items are broadly japanese. dishes are not tourist/american pallet.

My favorite sushi spot ever. THE best agedashi tofu! It's garlicky-spicy and so flavorful! Beef asparagus rolls are amazing and the sushi is fresh and the restaurant is beautiful.

A delicious spot for sushi and great spot for a large team dinner -- the Fuki Sushi team was AMAZING for a large offsite for a group of ~25. They were able to get us a private sunroom area figure out a menu that had vegetarian options, would work for that large a size within budget, and had a great variety of all of their offerings. We were able to email beforehand to decide on a menu and make the reservation, so the food was coming out and drinks were flowin' at a great pace, and we could just enjoy our time together without having to make those decisions at dinner! All of the food was DELICIOUS! We had large sushi boats with a HUGE variety of options and I can't think of a single thing that didn't taste amazing. There was a large variety from lobster rolls to spicy tuna and more. The ambiance of the place was great. It was so nice to have a secluded part of the restaurant for our party, complete with knowledgeable servers just for us. The bill splitting process was easy and clean, so we wouldn't have to go through issues when expensing it on our side. TL;DR: high quality, delicious sushi and a great ambiance, perfect for a large group! I definitely want to come back when I'm visiting the Bay again!

Unsure of what to decide on from the menu, we decided to ask our waiter to surprise us with three of his favorite rolls. Each roll was excellent, the sushi was firm and wonderfully fresh. The Lychee Lemon Drop was sweet, so if you're not into sweet, go in a more refreshing direction.

Fuki Sushi serves some high quality dishes. The fish on my rolls and sashimi felt and tasted very fresh. The salmon was very firm and given generous cuts. I felt that the rolls had a lot of rice, but I like that the ingredients are simple. They have a small selection of alcohol (like sake or beers). We got the bottle of Kontaki Tears to share and it was a light and crisp flavor. The overall décor looked very clean sand had a theme. We made a reservation for 4 on Tock and we were seated on time once we were all present. I'm curious as to what the experience is like for the reservation in the tatami room. Parking lot is a little small, but doable.

Sad to say I think this place was overhyped. The service was really good but the food was ok at best. The ambiance felt like really authentic and was a nice experience overall. The chicken kaarage was good though a bit on the oily side. We also had the rainbow sushi as an appetizer, which did not taste fresh to me. For my entree, I had the chicken sukiyaki set. It was tasty but a tad bit too sweet. The portion size was really good too. L

Perfect bday dinner! Lobster roll & eggplant appetizer goes well with a small salad. My guest loved everything ordered as well. Maboroshi sake and White Peach Chu Hi Sparkling plus 4 other items. All fresh! Total was 130 dollars before tip and delivery fee.

My first time here and I absolutely loved everything! I didn't have one bad thing. Came here for a team dinner with 7 folks total. 2 are vegetarians and this place has extensive vegetarian roll and entree options. We were all very happy with the selections! We opted to get the sushi boats. We got 2 boats, assorted sushi rolls / Nigiri on one boat and all vegetarian rolls on the other. This was accompanied by appetizers - tempura, tofu, edamame, gyoza (vegetarian and meat) chicken skewers. All of it was outstanding. Definitely can recommend this place. It's a landmark, has been around for a long time and I can't wait to go back.

What can you say - going to Fuki Suchi for over 20 years now. I love the place, the food is always good and consistant. I love the fact that they have ton of other japanese food not just sushi (yes, in japan restaurants are more specialized, but we're in california and getting great japanese dishes that are hard to find elsewhere is something i truly appreciate). The tatami rooms might require some freshening (i was last there in the summer of 23 and they were bit on the old side). It's not cheap, but it's palo alto, and anyways, i never found a cheap sushi place with really good quality, would love to find one. The team stays there for many many years, you recognize the faces and you can't help appreciate places that can keep their team for so long, the service is always great and professional.

Elegant, high class restaurant with top quality food and service. I have been a regular customer at Fuki Sushi for 17 years and it never disappoints. They have consistently impressed me with delicious Japanese food and wonderful staff. The interior is beautifully done and represents Japanese art and minimalistic design. Fuki Sushi will forever be my favorite restaurant in Palo Alto.

Romantic ambience with a beautifully decorated restaurant not too far from Downtown University Ave., Palo Alto. Plenty of lot parking. The sushi was pretty good but a bit smaller portion sizes than most places. The service was not too great as I definitely would have ordered more but rarely saw anyone. I would definitely try this place again.

Visited here after years. I remembered it was always over-priced for the amount of food they give. The quality of the fish is good but the Donburi dish I got had 5 tiny sliver pieces of fish on it for $25. I'm a size 0/XS (hence I don't eat much) and I left hungry. Of course I had left over rice. I ate good amount of rice with each piece but the dish was mostly rice and I didn't want to load on just rice. And didn't want to order another dish for $25-40 box. Would not be going back here necessary. The menu is long with lots of options but can also get overwhelming.

One of our favorite restaurants for Japanese cuisine. The presentation is so artistic, and the flavors are dreamy and delicious. Try a variety of items off the appetizer menu and ask for the Hamachi Kama. One of my friends loved to order the chefs special. We always enjoy the seaweed salad. Probably one of the best I've ever tasted. Don't forget to check their specials because you just might find something extremely tasty and unusual! I once had a custard made from a rare mushroom . Each dish is presented in a beautiful way and my coworkers and I have never been disappointed. Everything I've tried has delighted the senses!

We love Fuki Sushi; I have never eaten there but it is our takeout go-to when at Stanford. The price point is high, but it is the South Bay - so it comes with the territory. The sake (salmon) sashimi, tuna roll, salmon avo roll, and spider roll are all quality and favorites. Most appreciatively, they are so good with allergies - double and triple checking items with the chef, separating certain dishes from others, etc. The gyoza has sesame seeds in it, but they can make all their rolls with no sesame seeds in the rice. We eat here with peace of mind and are so thankful for Fuki Sushi's hospitality and delicious food.

Lunch for two. I arrived at 12:20 and waited just a minute to get a table, which I switched to another slightly far away from a rowdy party. Then I started with a bourbon to wait for my party. Not lots of selections, but a Marker's Mark deliciously sufficed. Also got an Agedashi Tofu, which was standard. I was hoping for the wooden fish flakes, but did not find. For lunch, they do not offer omakase of whatever. That's a disappointment, indicating no one in the kitchen was bold and creative enough to take up the role. We ordered the same Kanto Chirashi and shared a bottle of Junmai Nigori unfiltered sake (300ml). The fish part of the Chirashi was excellent. The rice was not. They packed it tight and mixed it with, I think, dried daikon. There's a dole of fish eggs on top. It should be better texture and warmer. The sake, served cold, was excellent.

Used to love going to Fuki for reliable sushi and Japanese staples. Food has gone downhill (sushi, tempura, soba, mochi all subpar), plus the rushed service, means we are unlikely to return any time soon.

the food and service was really great however when my gf and i walked in there were older white people staring at us (maybe it was because we were in w wlw relationship ..) but it made me feel really uncomfortable. but overall the servers were really nice and helpful since this was our first time here !i would also recommend you putting an appointment ahead of time because it does get pack really fast .

When I first moved to the Bay Area over 20 years ago, Fuki Sushi used to be a place where ate at least once every couple of months. We lived close by , so it was convenient for us to just walk to the restaurant. Over the course of several years, however, we noticed a decline in the food quality and an increase in prices as they strove to become more upscale. In tandem, the service seemed to worsen - more surly, more impatient. We stopped coming here about 7 or 8 years ago after one last less-than-ideal experience. Recently, some visiting family members expressed a strong interest in coming here. We tried to suggest several other locations that we've been frequenting recently, but to no avail. They recalled their experience from about 15 years ago and wanted to go back. So, we mentally prepared myself for another disappointing evening and met them at the restaurant. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. For one, the service is tremendously improved compared to what we experienced many years back. The hostess greeted us enthusiastically (I'm guessing that she had a broad smile behind her mask) and brought us to the table where the rest of our party was waiting. Servers immediately came to the table to provide us with menus and offer us tea. Throughout the meal they checked on us regularly to make sure that we had everything that we desired. We ordered a variety of dishes for our meal that evening: Fried oysters - a single order is 4 oysters that were small to medium in size. Breaded and deep fried, nicely crisp. Probably needed to have a second order though. Hamachi roll - a bit on the small side, but the hamachi quality was good. Rainbow roll - a pretty standard dish at most sushi restaurant. This was perhaps not much different but the cuts of sashimi on top were a little thicker than standard, which was appreciated. They put a sear on the ahi, however, which I haven't seen before. I would have preferred it completely uncooked. Spider roll - nice meaty softshell crab, better than most. The fry on this was pretty good. Tempura udon - good flavor to the broth, noodles were a little on the overdone side. Tempura soba - again, the noodles were a little overdone. For this and the udon, they could have been a little more generous with the tempura vegetables. Mixed tempura - for the price, this was smaller than expected. Three prawns plus a small assortment of vegetables. Hamachi collar - grilled and lightly seasoned. The fish was generally moist throughout and the flavor was excellent. This was probably the best dish of the evening. Chicken katsu - typical breaded chicken breast. Crispy, juicy, and not too oily. The dipping sauce was a little too thick and salty, however. Overall, the food quality was very good and about what I'd expect for any sushi restaurant worth its salt. For the prices we paid, however, I was hoping for something a little more elevated. It was a elegant dining experience, no doubt about that - the restaurant is beautiful, atmosphere is relaxing, and the service was excellent - but it is a very expensive meal. It was great to return to see how this place has evolved to again become the fine establishment that we knew from 20 years ago, but this will only be an occasional indulgence for us in the future.

I got take out for a large group. They made a delicious chirashi. One of the best I've had. A bit pricey but still very tasty. I recommend this restaurant!!

Took a large party and had a great experience in private room. Although not your top tier elite sushi place, it is excellent do what it is. Because of our large party the waitress helped custom build for us two sushi boats with great assortment and it was just right. Solid sake pairings as well.

I been coming here since the 90s. The food is consistent and the place is clean and spacious. Ambiance is casual but also a great place for special occasions. Servers are normally awesome.

I travel to Palo Alto a couple of times a year for work. The menu can be a little overwhelming the first time you dine here, but after looking at it fully, you'll figure out the groupings. Everything that I have had as been above average to outstanding. The Green Tea Udon noodles is one of my favorites. Ask if there are any specials.......I've found those to be out of this world. I usually arrive right at opening/after work....so I haven't had issues with reservations or wait time. It's a special place which will be evident to any culturally aware person, as soon as you enter. The multi-generational families that dine there speak to the quality. I always look forward to going back.

Great sushi restaurant in Palo Alto. The sushi quality is amazing and atmosphere is relaxing, especially during lunch time. The waiters and waitresses are extremely nice and willing to help with selecting out dishes if you need any help. Service and food is a 10/10. I often order the dragon roll and chicken karage. The dragon roll is one of the best I've ever had. Although only six pieces, the pieces are big and extremely tasty. The chicken karage is one of the best items there. It is crispy on the outside and very soft and tender on the inside. It is also very flavorful so I never need to use the sauce. Their tea is a green tea and is very good. Overall, great experience.

Nice Japanese place in Palo Alto. The ambiance is nice and the staff were friendly. Opted for udon soup on a chilly day and came out quick and prepared well. The sushi roll ordered was a bit pricy for four pieces but overall everything was good.

Went here on a week night with two colleagues. We had a private room. We had the full variety of sushi. It is a bit annoying they say - you cannot have hamachi - and then 30 minutes later they are "we have hamachi as well". Very confusing is terms of order. In general the food is very good. Great sushi and certainly trying it again.

Service, food and atmosphere all A+. We happened upon this restaurant by accident and certainly glad we did.

Karaage is really good. But the rice for rainbow roll is too hard and dry. Fish are okay.

How do I love Fuki? Let me count the ways. Oh, some may have declared you past your prime, but those are the fools always searching for the next big thing. Fuki is the real deal. The superbly fresh and beautifully prepared sushi, sashimi etc and awesome buzzy experience sitting at the sushi bar and such good non sushi things like shumai and green tea Mochi. It is so consistently good and worth it.

I think that Fuki Sushi serves some of the freshest fish I have ever had in the Bay Area (despite doordashing both times). The variety of fish they serve is delectable and each cut not only tastes like its fresh caught but basically melts in your mouth. They also have a really nice creamy texture that pairs well with the sushi rice (they even do the rice so well). This quality is pretty much unparalleled compared to other sushi restaurants in the area IMO. The Fuki Nori was my favorite - there are many different cuts and types of fish, many of which are pretty unique and not typical of traditional sushi restaurants. The salmon was very creamy, the tuna was fatty, and the tomago was soft and sweet. It reminded me of the fish from Tsukiji fish market in Japan. There were also other pieces of fish that I didn't recognize but really liked. The Kanto Chirashi and Orizuru Nirigri were also very good. I thought that they did the sushi rice pairing really well. These had more traditional types of fish but they are nonetheless very solid in quality. A little more classic and recommend these if you want to stay on the safe side. The Sukiyaki was also very flavorful. I don't typically gravitate towards this, but I was pleasantly surprised. Mixing the rice into the broth created a very delicious, sweet, and almost porridge-like dish that also reheated very well the next day. Recognize that this place is quite pricey, but I think the freshness and quality of service warrants the premium and serves as a great place for a celebration meal. Will say that portion sizes aren't enormous, but always appreciate how clean I feel after eating sashimi!

Intimate and traditional vibes, good but pricey sushi, great service. We waited half an hour on a Friday night with no reservation - not bad. The really liked the agedashi tofu, and even though I'm a wimp when it comes to spiciness, I liked the spicy garlic sauce that came with it. The salmon was the star of the night. The Murai sake was one of the cheapest ones but we liked it - creamy and ricey. Our server had a dope Japanese outfit.

Right when we got in, the hostess was welcoming and asked if we had a reservation (which we didn't), but we probably waited less than 10 min to be seated. The place is nice and cozy. The menu is through QR code and the waiter took our order shortly. I honestly didn't order any sushi lol I was craving Salmon Teriyaki, so I ordered the Fuki sushi set. The salmon was pretty good! It was cooked just right and was satisfied. I'll have to try their sushi next time I come in!

We came here to celebrate a birthday and we enjoyed the food and ambience! They operate very efficiently here. My water glass was almost never left less than half empty and they came around to check on us and helps us out quite a bit. The interior is also so beautiful! A bit of a transcendent experience, as the servers are also dressed up in traditional wear. As for the food, we really enjoyed everything we ordered. The sushi and rolls were fresh, and I also liked how flavorful and rich the Beef Teriyaki was. The Sushi Experience Set and the Iso Yose Mori Set are pretty solid options and deals. For dessert, we ended with the Crepe Cake and weren't disappointed by that either--not too sweet but perfectly decadent. A great place to come for a special occasion or a family dinner. They have a wide selection of menu items, and I definitely want to try some of their Udons next time.

Let's get real, people. This sushi place has it all: quality, creativity, a level of sophistication, and a killer ambience (and of course a notorious one as this is where some famous Silicon Valley infamously brought their clients). I love the food here- their sashimi is fresh as can be, try the sushi donburi if you want a generous and varied selection. Don't miss their spicy oyster uramaki, a roll featuring tobiko and a lightly fried oyster. Their spicy citrus scallop roll is also not to miss. Some of their show stoppers however aren't sushi at all- their hamachi kama entree and spider kobashii age left everyone in our group excited and satisfied. The service is friendly and quick, and somehow you leave feeling a little bit like you are a VIP exec- one that has just enjoyed a delicious meal.

Very Authentic sushi experience in the bar area from the ambiance to menu. On the pricier side but a must go spot for sushi lovers in the bay!

If I could do more than 5 stars I would. I LOVE this place. It is one of our go to family restaurants. My 14 year old loves it so much she comes with just her friends for a special dinner night. The fish is always fresh and I love the gf options. The service is always so top notch. It feels so special going here. The owner is the best part of this place. I can go on and on but make sure to go here. Ignore the bad reviews... look and see how many bad reviews they give other places. There is a reason this restaurant has been around for decades and is the go to for so many in the bay area.

I've tried quite a few dishes from here over the span of two decades. Not somewhere I would crave for to drive 20 + minutes to unless I'm in the area. Omakase, and any sushi or sashimi is what I would order over anything else. Their bentos are decent (ate it right away so but I've had better. I'm including both dine in and takeout photos during the pandemic.

Fuki Sushi is a gem of a restaurant and Lumi Garner is its heart. We have been to Fuki numerous times and were never disappointed. The food is always top notch, attentively prepared and delicious. The service is great and servers show care and pay attention to guests needs. The space itself is welcoming and lively. You can always count on Fuki for a great dinner experience.
