Angry Customer Subjects Owner of Popular Palo Alto Sushi Spot to Racist Tirade | Eater SF

"I report that a well-loved Palo Alto Japanese restaurant run for three generations by Lomi Gardener and her family was the target of a racist tirade after staff informed a customer they weren't accepting cash because of the pandemic. At Fuki Sushi the patron screamed at a server and at Gardener, shouting, "You are un-American! Where were you even born? Did you even go to school here? You are not American! Go back to your country! You don't belong here! We don't want you here!" The customer ultimately paid and left, but the native Palo Altan owner was understandably upset; the Palo Alto Police are investigating and the incident drew attention from public officials, including Menlo Park City Council member Ray Mueller, who posted about it on Facebook." - Lauren Saria
