A New Ghost Kitchen Will Start Slinging Its Creative Cheesesteaks in Dallas Next Month | Eater Dallas

"Founded by furloughed hotel food-and-beverage managers Michael Youssef and Sam Kaiser (who met at the Hilton Anatole), this ghost-kitchen concept operating out of CloudKitchens in the Trinity Groves area focuses on Northeastern-style cheesesteaks and other hearty sandwiches. The menu also offers creative twists on calzones and indulgent items like mac-and-cheese muffins and al pastor burritos. Wanting to replicate the quality of sandwiches they missed from back home, the duo emphasize real, fresh-shaved meat and developed their own cheese sauce inspired by the popularity of Cheese Whiz. Sandwiches are priced around $10–$11 and will be available for delivery via UberEats, Grubhub, Postmates, DoorDash, and ChowNow starting in early February." - Rachel Pinn

Super good cheesesteaks, probably some of the best I've ever had. The concept of this place is quite odd. There are multiple restaurants operating out of the same kitchen. It's an interesting thing to try, considering there is no service staff or dine In. I walked in not knowing anything and really was not explained anything, which is fine, except that there were at least ten people working. No one greeted me or asked about the experience/explained anything. I felt like I was walking into an office building that I shouldn't of been in. I'd assume everything but the cheesesteaks is okay but not worth the price. Would I come back? Really unsure at this point.

I ordered The Furlough OG and it was incredibly lackluster, with meat that was too tough to chew. While the portion size was okay, the taste left me not wanting to order from here again. I hope this review will result in improvements from this particular vendor, but for now its best to order from one of the other vendors in the kitchen.

For lunch today ordered for delivery the Buffalo Chicken Salad. House seasoned Buffalo chicken, cherry peppers, jalapeño, pickled onions, blue cheese, corn, tomatoes, and Smokey lemon ranch. It was presented very well, chicken was warm and had a hot Buffalo flavor, very good. Order was delivered quickly and was very pleased out the flavor of the entire meal. I am not a big salad person, and there was just a little lettuce, balanced well with all the other ingredients, almost forgot I was eating a salad. Definitely will have more orders from this place.

Google
Notice that they do not call themselves Philly Cheesesteaks. That’s because while these sandwiches pay homage to its Philly roots, these cheesesteaks come with their own twists. With a house-made cheese sauce in place of traditional whiz or provolone and a variety of different seasoned and marinated fresh shaved meats, the cheesesteaks from Furlough Brothers are unlike anything you’ve ever had. We got the Bulgogi, Local Smokehouse, and the OG. We only poured cheese sauce on the OG, but we tried all of them with it, and honestly, it went perfect with all 3, especially the Bulgogi which was my personal favorite. Additionally, we got a side of fries to share and a Fully Loaded Mac and Cheese Muffin. While you can never go wrong with a side of fries, that Fully Loaded Muffin is an absolute MUST. It comes loaded with mac & cheese, caramelized onions, and bacon contained in a muffin shape which makes it easy to eat on the go.

Ordered this tonight for dinner. Unfortunately it was really not tasty. I hate wasting food and couldn’t make it past two bites. It was like they flavored the steak, peppers, and onions to make fajitas but put it on bread at the last minute 😕

Google
Yum! I ate it all. The cheese sauce was so good. This was a sandwich that I’m going to have to come back for!! It’s so hard to find standout good food in Dallas and this was it!

Google
This is literally one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. I can't have dairy, so I hadn't had a cheesesteak in forever - the vegan cheese was delicious (even though I was drooling over the real cheese sauce that looked incredible) the vegan cheese was a great substitute and the sandwich overall was so tasty. Unfortunately we are not in the delivery zone - but we drive down to pick-up, it is 100% worth the trip. Great food. Great service. Great people.

Google
The owners are 2 of the most upstanding gentlemen around. Their OG is a smash! I absolutely adore the pickled onions.

Yelp
First time doing the whole kiosk ordering thing. To me the Philly was pretty pricey for the size of the sandwich. In my opinion it was good but could've been better

Yelp
Found on ubereats . Happy i did! Great sandwich and portion size. Very good Bread as well!

Yelp
This business is in a place called "Commerce Fork Food Company". It's sort of a confusing concept for me. You walk in and there were kiosks that weren't working and no one to help us. No signage, no menus. No tables, no nothing. After a while someone came to the window and advised we could order on our phones. I mean, I guess if it's just a food delivery/to-go place or something it make sense...but someone somewhere needs to do better at explaining to their patrons what you're supposed to do here. We ordered and waited in our car. They don't give you anything to alert us so we just kept going back in to check on the food. I'm not sure what I expected but I thought maybe there would be some tables or something? They didn't even have trash cans outside. The food was just ok. The cheese sauce was the best part. Super cheesy and ooey gooey. We didn't finish the sandwich as it was soggy (even though we ate it immediately) and lacking bulgogi flavor of any kind. The macaroni was decent enough. Based on the whole "food delivery pick up and not a restaurant" I would not be back. I mean...is this the future of eating out? I'm not impressed.

Yelp
Offer on Uber ..Buy 1 get 1. Only received 1. Ordered extra dressing (which cost) never received and was charged.

Yelp
Phenomenal!!!! Ordered the original cheesesteak w/ provolone, banana peppers, lettuce and tomatoes. The bread and meat were beyond fresh. Coming from someone who doesn't eat a lot and is very picky, I was blown away. It was all gone in less than 10 min. Can't wait to try one of the other subs!

Yelp
Ohmahgawwwdddd this place is delicious!!!! Ima say my two criticisms first: the portion size was a bit smaller than I expected for the Al Pastor Burrito and they didn't send enough 'S' sauce. BUT JESUS WILLIAM H. CHRIST this food was DELICIOUS!!! Omg let me say I didn't need bigger portions cause these sammiches hit different! Let's start with the Texas Brisket. Seasoned to PERFECTION. The Al Pastor made me want to cancel PETA on Twitter. They sent hella cheese sauce and the ones labeled "S" were absolutely phenomenal. I don't know what "S" stands for but if I had to guess I'd say it means "Sell all your worldly values and trade them for stock in Furlough Brothers." It's apparent that they know their flavor palette's. They took a risk with a smaller sized menu but they absolutely killed it! No joke. Furlough Brothers has demonstrated not only an understanding of flavor pairing, but of presentation and service. Their handwritten thank you message on the wrappers tells me they appreciate and value your business. They get good food, they get good service, and they get it right. Don't rob your taste buds of this incredible experience. And ask for extra sauce

Yelp
Ordered a cheese steak sandwich, while tasty? It had very little meats cut into tiny cubes.

Yelp
I was VERY pleased with my cheesesteak fries! I'm also just so amazed by the ghost/cloud kitchen concept. I walk into an unassuming building, and there are 25 restaurants I can order from? Genius. I have been reading comments about the portion sizes being less than desired, but my boyfriend and I are two fully grown adults and we could barely finish one order of the cheesesteak fries. They were soooo flavorful. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Hands down the best cheesesteak in town!!! The Mac and cheese muffins are to die for!!! Small menu but every item is perfected rather than large menu with below standard food, love it will order again! I also appreciate them being open so late!

Yelp
This can be confusing since this is a ghost kitchen. Ordered from furlough bros and I was quite underwhelmed. Ordered the cheesesteak OG, Mac muffin, deep fried calzone and fries. Portions were for a toddler at best. Taste was average but way overpriced consider the quantity. Will not return.
google avatar

Kyle D.

Yelp
Portion felt small. Cheese sauce lacked flavor. Jersey Mike's has a better cheesesteak sandwich.

Yelp
Furlough Brothers saved the day after my husband and I had a long day of moving into our new home. We ordered online and picked up at their ghost kitchen location which houses several other ghost kitchens! Just walk in and let them know you're picking up. We've already ordered from them another time and it's always great. Their fries are more like Buffalo chips and everything comes with a side of cheese sauce. So far I've tried the OG, the Texas Fair Calzone, and the Blazin' Bird. They have a great variety and I love being able to support local. Thanks, Furlough!

Brendan M.

Yelp
Had the original cheesesteak and it was great. The cheese came on the side and I got to pour it on when my order showed up.

Yelp
Ok, y'all You have, I guarantee, NEVER had a REAL Philly Cheesesteak like the ones from Furlough Brothers, ANYWHERE down here in Texas! This place has no dine in, presently, but you can have orders filled online, delivered and picked up. Sam and Mike are an appetite quenching duo. They both were employees at the Hilton Anatole, and were furloughed at the onset of the pandemic. (Thus, their name.) The chef, of the two of them, is a culinary expert earned his degree and specializes in his experience and knowledge of cooking in top notch restaurants. He knows every inch of a side of a cow and a cut of beef. You don't have to go all the way to Philly to experience the authentic Philly Cheesesteak any longer. It's in our Trinity Grove district, and your taste buds are knocking at the door of your lips to venture down to W Commerce and grab the essence of the best Philly Cheesesteaks you ever, (or, perhaps, never, ate before in your life!) Check out their menu, order, head to Clyde Warren Park, the Arboretum, your favorite picnic area, or head for home and don't miss out on this most fantastic, mouth watering treat you have ever tasted, this side of Philadelphia!

Yelp
I love a good cheesesteak! I was so excited to find this place right up the street from us. I ordered the OG one along with loaded brisket fries. The sandwich was a little on the small side. The meat had wonderful taste, i do give them that!. The fries were more like chips . They were overly crispy and barely had any brisket in it. I was so excited but a little let down. The cheesesteak house will remain my #1 spot.

Yelp
Good stuff. I grew up in Philadelphia and these are perfectly acceptable; it's also nice having all the other options if you feel like being on a diet or something. Glad to have these guys here on Commerce.

Laura K.

Yelp
First time visiting ordered the OG and the Bulgogi. Both were amazingly fresh, hot and so delicious. Unique and delicious fries as well - especially good dipped into Furlough Brothers special sauces. Try them all! Looking forward to our next visit as we work our way through the entire menu - it all sounds and looks great! Oh, and check out the loaded fries!

Erin B.

Yelp
Very very much enjoyed my furlough brothers sandwich!! Quick delivery and such good quality. Got the Mac and Cheese muffin and it was AMAZING! Can't wait to order again!

Grady W.

Yelp
Great food, Bulgolgi sandwich was amazing and the Mac n Cheese muffin was awesome. Cheese was on the side so sandwich wasn't soggy and food arrived nice and hot. Will for sure be ordering from here again to try all the menu items!

Eric A.

Yelp
Amazing cheese steak!!! Bulgogi is the way to go! Having midday cravings or late night munchies?? Hit the guys up at the furlough brothers and they will take care of you! The only reason I am giving five stars is because there is not a ten star rating!

Laura W.

Yelp
Ordered on Uber Eats and daaaang! I was impressed. The cheesesteak was great; not greasy and the bread was crisp. It came with a side of cheese as well as a side of sauce, both of which were fantastic. To top it off, they left the cutest note on the wrapper. Will definitely order from here again!
