Fusion Food Truck was one of the many food trucks present at the Bold City Beer Fest this past weekend. Their menu looked great and they were very friendly and welcoming, so I ordered a gyro (comes with french fries) and my wife got veggie tikka masala. We also ordered a garlic naan to share.
When asked how spicy we wanted our food, we were told they offer mild, medium, spicy, very spicy, and "Fusion hot". I'm a chili head and got their Fusion hot, which they described as "a 7 on a 1-5 scale" and my wife requested medium.
Our food came out quickly, and on first glance looked good. The gyro itself was tasty, with slices of a lamb and beef mixture with the requisite lettuce and tomato. Whatever they used to spice it up was tempered by the sheer mass of ingredients within the gyro so it wasn't too spicy. Overall, it was good, though the french fries were nothing to write home about.
My wife's food, on the other hand, was NUCLEAR hot. So spicy, in fact, that she couldn't even eat it and decided to go get a slice of pizza instead. I ate it for lunch the following day, and it had me sweating within two mouthfuls. If this is "medium" spicy I can't even imagine what their spicier dishes are like, which makes me wonder why my gyro was so tame when I asked for the spiciest option they had. We think they might have accidentally switched our spiciness requests, but there's no way to be sure. To be fair, the dish was delicious, just too spicy for most. I still enjoyed it, but someone looking for medium-spicy certainly wouldn't. The naan was average.
All of the above with a Thai tea came to $25, which seemed a tad expensive for what we got but wasn't outrageous. I'd definitely try their food again, but be very careful when they ask you how hot you like it; you just might get burned.
