Gabriel's Bar & Restaurant

We found this gem of a bar/restaurant and visited five or six times. The atmosphere is amazing and the staff very professional and friendly. Eddie provided excellent service and Gabriel the owner is so welcoming and friendly and has time for everyone. The food was out of this world - particular mentions are Ravioli Zucca and the Brasato di Costolette di Manzo (short ribs to die for). The bomboloni (Italian doughnuts with chocolate and caramel sauces) is one of the best desserts I’ve had! We would definitely recommend this place. It’s in an excellent location opposite Central Park.

Can’t speak highly enough of Gabriel and his family restaurant. As a business owner myself the key to return customers is service and quality and Gabriel’s offers both at a high level for all their customers. The minute you walk in to the min to leave, you are treated like family. The food is amazing, staff hands down the best. I highly recommended you enjoy a few meals at Gabriel’s You will not be disappointed. They have a customer for life right here.

Came here with a large group. Food was ok, service was good. Plates were way too large and not so nice presented.

We had the best time! We went for there for dinner before a show at the Lincoln Center since is close by. The dishes are delicious, good size, great flavor! The restaurant ambiance and art is just a nice complement. Service was great! They have also a nice room for special events too.

Went in for a weekend brunch with a couple of friends. Absolutely loved the vibe and classy setting. Service was great and welcoming, food was delicious. Banana pudding from the dessert menu was absolutely mind-blowing and very fulfilling, we easily shared it between 4ppl and everyone felt satisfied. Eggs Benedict were also delicious, fresh and good portion. The place got packed by 3pm. We had a nice stroll afterwards through east side all the way up to the Guggenheim’s Museum. Will be back on my next trip to NYC!

Easily the best pasta I’ve tasted in NYC. From a really nice menu too. Great location, and as a sidenote, immaculately lit!!

My friend and I had brunch here recently. While neighboring Sarabeth's was very busy, Gabriels was nearly empty when both places were first open for the day for some reason. After our positive experience, I am not sure why more people did not know to check Gabriels out. Despite that observation, we had a very enjoyable meal! We sat near the window with a view of Central Park. The service was attentive. We both had breakfast food, and it was yummy. I would come back and try their lunch or dinner fare another time!

Great place for a yummy bite with a clean and posh ambiance right by Central Park, south. BUT, there are some things to consider. First of all, sitting in the patio area/outside dining is a scene. Great people watching if you can snag a table. The bar area also looks nice but the inside seems to cater to the elder's eye. It's a cool art deco look that was pristinely cared for through the years (looks that way). But the inside isn't hip at all. We sat in the back and got brunch. I ordered the eggs Benedict. It hit the spot and was made very traditionally. However, the potatoes were not crispy. They don't serve them crispy. They fry them to a point where it's limp and oily. I'm not sure what style this is but it is consistent. All the brunch plates we got had these types of potato. The donuts for dessert come on a cool Ferris wheel thing with chocolate and caramel sauces. See pics. The sauces were a bit too runny and watery. But the donuts tasted good with the sauce spooned over regardless. They're called Bombalonis on the menu. As for price.. yes, it's over priced. But you'd expect that from a restaurant by Central Park. I give the food a 3.5 and the ambiance a 3.5. I give it

Wonderful service. The short rib and polenta was a 10/10. Tender meat, well seasoned and a good portion size.

My husband and I had dinner at Gabriel's to celebrate our 20th anniversary. What a lovely restaurant! The hostess showed us to our table after wishing us a happy anniversary. The service was attentive and prompt but we did not feel rushed. My husband and I shared a Caesar salad and our waitress plated it separately so we each had our own serving! Our mains were pasta, definitely homemade and delicious! We were also graced with a visit from none other than Gabriel himself! It was nice to meet the owner and it shows how much pride & care goes into running the restaurant. The best part came when, after declining dessert, they brought us over a complimentary piece of chocolate cake with "happy anniversary " written on the plate! So thoughtful and really made our night special. If we lived closer we'd definitely come back.

Gabriel's was recommended to me by an avid fan of this restaurant. I chose to sit at the bar for a quick bite. I received my selection promptly but did not receive any warmth or welcoming vibes. Not even a napkin for my lap. I noticed the bartender made sure to check on others but I was not asked if I needed anything else. I don't want to assume the reason for his lukewarm behavior. He wasn't outright rude. But I do want to say that the bartender on that evening missed out, perhaps by making assumptions about the type of diner I would be based on stereotypes. I typically tip a minimum of 40% when I'm happy with service. When I'm super happy I've been known to tip 100%. It is so nice to be treated as an equal and see the surprise on the server's face when they see what I left out of my appreciation. I know serving can be tough. Receiving bad service is even tougher. I tipped this guy 20% because that is the lowest I'm willing to go even with lukewarm service. I would have ordered more had the bartender come over to check on me. But he did not. (At least the barback was friendly.) The restaurant itself offers great ambiance and a great location. I can't comment on what I ate because the service left such a bad taste in my mouth. I have never left a one star review on any platform. First time for everything. Last time visit. I used to think it was unfair to give a low rating based on a single employee. But now I feel it may br a wakeup call for restaurants to offer training on equitable service.

The restaurant was nice and cool on a hot day. Each table was set nicely with fresh roses. I ordered the cold cucumber soup that was described as cucumbers, yogurt, and fresh herbs. When it arrived, it had an unappetizing pink hue and I noticed a strawberry garnish. The sweet strawberry taste overpowered the soup, so I didn't eat the whole thing, which was disappointing at a $24 price tag. The linguini and clams were pretty good, and my friend enjoyed her butternut squash in brown butter sauce. If you are looking for a bite to eat around Central Park and don't mind overpriced food, Gabriel's will do the trick.

This is our must visit restaurant when we go to NYC, highly recommend the cacio e Pepe and get a window table if you can!

I located Gabriels while searching Restaurant Week. I live in the area, and the menu was appealing to me. I sat at the bar and was served by Gabriel and a bartender whose name I didn't ask. Each course came out in a timely manner and was delicious, flavorful, and clean on the palate. I intentionally didn't finish my main course because it was so good. We stopped in here on the way back to our hotel, The Ritz, after five hours of Pokémon hunting at the Pokémon Go Fest event after walking 25,000 steps on Randall's Island. My feet felt bruised on the bottom and we had been outside from the early morning. I wanted fresh straightforward, food. Wanted nothing fried and nothing in sandwich form. It was a Hail Mary for us to pop in here, and it was so delicious! The service was amazing, white tablecloths, relaxing, classy. The music didn't really match the restaurant, which we always get a kick out of- we actually enjoyed it! We must've looked horrible dressed for Pokemon hunting outdoors, but everyone was kind to us and it was a great experience!

Eh. For such steep prices, I wasn't blown away. I ordered the ravioli-which I'll admit that was tasty- but it's hard to savor six bites when your other party ordered the burger and fries. Despite the fancy presentation, I found the fries to be lacking. However, I may simply just not like truffle. Finally, the deserts and alcohols were outrageously priced. I don't care if it's some "artisanal" gelato, 20+ for ice cream is a crime.

Outstanding. We were a group of 7. The pasta, mussels, lamb chops - everything was superb. The desserts were devine. And the service was exemplary. This is definitely a must visit.

The restaurant was super accommodating to me and my husband and two kids They made sure we were comfortable and made a dish specifically asked by my three year old that wasn't on the menu Raul our server was really the best ! He offered reccs by asking us what we're in the mood for and what would fill us up He was super warm to our overtired kids and brought them milk and bread to get them started with some food Thank you !

Very nice atmosphere and the staff was kind and attentive. I had a delicious butternut squash ravioli. Husband had the chicken special, which was great, though the mashed potatoes were overly creamy. I would definitely eat here again.

Great all the way around! Nice atmosphere, on the nice side. By Central Park, great service and great food! Vongole was perfect. Simple pasta w red sauce - perfect. Arugula salad - the best and simple. Ricotta cheesecake - OG and perfect. Drinks good too A+++!!!!

The owner Gabriel was so rude! He yelled at our party in front of everyone because of a very honest Open Table mistake. It was NYE and we looked on open table for availability at the bar. The app booked us for an actual dinner reservation. We calmly explained we wanted to just sit at the VERY OPEN BAR area, and he came over and showed everyone what kind of person he is which is very mean! We stayed ordered our drinks then quickly left. He advised our group that we only had 30 minutes to drink up! I fully understand that this was a very busy night, and if we wouldn't have just wanted drinks we would've stayed for dinner, but had ate earlier in the evening. The restaurant was not busy at all, and maybe he was having a bad night BUT it could've been handled a lot more tactfully!

Comfort and elegance [at a hefty price but nowhere near the over priced NYC places]. Hard to explain how a white linen fine dining joint can seem as warm and inviting as my kitchen, but it did it. Pas chi chi.

I have to hand it Gabriel for turning me on to Ravioli Zucca twenty four years ago at his original location on 60t St. All these years later and now housed at 40 CPS where Lady Gaga herself once sought refuge in the Penthouse- he still serves the amazing Zucca- this dish has withstood the test of time. Anything you order at this top notch NYC restaurant will not disappoint, if you can get a table for dinner- lunch is a much easier time to walk in without a reservation.

I would go here more often if it didn't have sky high prices. Excellent lamb chop, disappointing dover sole special (too much lemon and butter overpowered the delicate fish). Expect to spend about $200 pp if getting one drink, app, entree and dessert. If ordering wine, it will be more. Will be back for a special occasion as setting is nice, tables are spaced so you hear yourself think. Service was good as well and portions are a good size. would have been 5 stars if not for the disappointing dover sole and steep prices. Expectations are high if prices are high.

Ok so I went two days in a row! First day it was around when kitchen was closing for an hour but the hostess who sat us did not say a word. This young man who was manic in a vest stopped by once very abruptly. Second time. You must order kitchen closing. Oh ok! Ordered food was good. No one check in see how it was do you need another drink. Nothing. Next day went at lunch time. One table there. Waiter could not be bothered. I had to ask him for a drink. Ten minutes later had to ask him to order lunch. He comes up on his phone takes 30 seconds puts it away and say what do you want! Food comes, he never comes back. He's on his phone at the bar! At one point argues with another employee! Absolutely ridiculous. Food good. Service is absolutely the worst! Never again! There on Central Park south. All my friends say there days are numbered

Sat outside ordered a glass of wine and the owner said i could not sit outside and drink and that i must order food since i was just enjoying the view of the street and central park on a grey spring day He clearly has a high opinion of his restaurant!

My teen daughter and I stopped in for brunch, after being put on a long wait list next door. I'm so glad we ventured over. we were promptly seated in the front at the window, and enjoyed the people watching! I had the Uova in Purgatorio, which was perfect for me: savory tomato meat sauce with poached eggs, simple but fabulous mixed greens and roasted potato slices. A well balanced meal. My teen had the chocolate chip ricotta pancakes, which were THE BEST pancakes I've ever tasted. Definitely a splurge meal, but worth it.

Wanted to like Gabriels so much, however, it fell flat. My husband and I had anticipated trying Gabriels since they opened and decided to do so last Friday. The ambiance is nice and the staff was friendly, however, the food is just subpar. We stopped by the host stand when we arrived and we're asked if we had a reservation, the place was not busy, however, we just wanted to sit at the bar and grab some food, the owner of the restaurant immediately took us to our seats at the bar. My husband ordered a glass of wine which he said was very good, while I stuck with the sparkling water. For our meals I had the cacio e pepe which was super watery and tasted like olive oil with a dash of pepper (not good at all!). My husband had the meatballs and he stated that they were lackluster and for the price you would think that the meatballs would be a bigger or more quantity. Overall I would not recommend Gabriels unless you are just looking to grab a drink. I would highly recommend the chef working out the kinks in their food as this place is pretty pricey and the food is not worth the cost. Hopefully things will improve overtime.

This is my favorite restaurant in the city! The food, ambience, and workers make the experience superior to every other dining experience around. The pasta is so fresh, the soup is so delicious, the Caesar salad is INCREDIBLE, and the lava cake is WOW! Don't forget the drinks, the Espresso Martini is TO DIE FOR. If you are looking for a simple, delicious, and calm but delicious dinner, come to Gabriel's! Good people, good food, good time! PS: my mother is vegan and gluten-free and she was accommodated perfectly! She even had the best time ever :)

My husband and I had dinner at Gabriele's and had one of the best experiences New York has to offer. I ordered the gnocchi with their famous Pomodoro sauce, and he had the duck breast . The bruschetta they serve is unbelievably good. Our vegetables were cooked perfectly. We had the homemade tiramisu for dessert and their homemade pistachio ice cream. They were both to die for. Gabriele is on premise and makes each and every one of his guests feel special. This restaurant is always in our plans when we visit New York.

Excellent food and service. I am a visitor in NYC and was referred to the restaurant by friends who had all good things to say about their experience. We are so happy we went there for dinner. The duck was delicious. The pasta was delicious, the sauce was sooo good. We will be back again. Definitely would recommend this restaurant. As an added plus, Gabriele greets his customers, and that made it extra special when he checked in on our table.

I know a place where the martinis are always just as cold as the company is warm. Where the pasta comes fresh and the nostalgia comes free and everything sparkles even on Sundays. I know a place that greets you by name when you walk in the door. Whether they know it or not, it doesn't matter here. Here, they're always happy to have you...back. Here, strangers are never strangers for long if you're offered just one more spoon for the tiramisu. I know a place with the best goddamn tiramisu. Lady fingers and espresso. You've got to try it, I said so. Because here? At this place? You check your "oh but I shouldn'ts" at the door in favor of a plateful of "just one more bites." In favor of a bolognese that tastes like home, however far that may be. But see, this place I know...as cold as the martinis and warm as the bread may be, the best part is that it will never be "cool" or a "hotspot." No. This place is so much more than that. This place is timeless in the way that holds you. Inviting in the way that begs you to stay. Classic in the way that it stays classy. Glamorous in how romantic it feels to just sit at the bar. And most of all... Best of all... This place is family, because being run by one, You're part of one here.

Beautiful place but the mediocre food is overpriced and we got overcharged... when asking for a refund they just offered gelato "on the house". We said we'd just like the bill instead and they kept pushing for us to get the gelato (even if it's just to "take it out".. who wants to take out gelato?) If we were overcharged and they just brought out gelato instead of fixing the bill clearly it is not on the house...

Gabriel's is the spot. Great food and friendly staff and beautiful ambiance. Perfect NYC Central Park west classic Italian experience with a modern touch. 10/10. Try the gnocchi it is incredible beyond compare. And don't skimp dessert.

The food, service, and ambiance were just superb. We spent New Years at Gabriel's and overall the attention by management and ownership was unmatched. Their lamb chops were amazing too! Overall great experience!!!

Great service, nothing to complain about in that department, but Just taken aback a little bit that after spending $174 for a bottle of wine and almost $300 for dinner for 2, we weren't even offered our $25 dessert as complimentary. Furthermore, a 20% tip was automatically charged to the bill! What if I wasn't happy with the service? Do I have a choice? Whenever we go to Sandro's, or Tiramisu, or Elio's we always get a little something on the house, whether a shot of grappa, or maybe an amaretto cookie, or a dessert. Even if it's already included in the total price, it's always nice for an establishment to show they appreciate your patronage, especially after spending almost $500 for 2 people. It makes the restaurant owners just look like they're a bit "pezzenti" or "mort'de fame." Just my 2 cents.

Fantastic restaurant. Great food and great service in a wonderful Italian setting. If you're lucky enough to be there in a night they have the Egg Ravioli you have to try them. One of the best things I've ever had!!

We were seated by the kitchen and I requested to move due to the foot traffic. We were placed at another tiny table and service began. The waitress was not knowledgeable about the wine list but eventually suggested that I speak to the sommelier who was less condescending and provided us with a great recommendation. I brought my sister here to celebrate her birthday (which was mentioned in the res) but never celebrated by the staff or acknowledged. We ordered a burrata salad which was very bland and flavorless. I had ravioli which was just ok and my sister had a gnocchi which was pretty good. The service was clunky as the servers who were retrieving dishes were constantly standing there even while eating which made you feel rushed. They fumbled a few times (dropping forks, hitting glasses... etc. during retrieval and drop off). The atmosphere is... weird. There's no other way to describe it, the decor looks like something from the 80'/early 2000's and feels sterile with some scary clown like artwork. Our bill was around $600 (before tip) and felt like a very mediocre experience and nothing special. I would never return considering the poor service, average food and price point.

Stopped here for lunch after a stroll through Central Park. When we first got there, the host asked if we would be eating and drinking. He explained that "he had to ask bc some people just come to sip an iced tea for hours". While I understand the question, I didn't care for the justification - if it's a problem, set a minimum. It just doesn't make patrons feel welcomed. We started with two glasses of crisp rose Prosecco and then tried the arugula salad with shrimp and the pasta bolognese. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce was super tasty. The salad was just OK and the grilled shrimp tasted pretty charred (as in bitter). I might go back for the pasta...but pass on the salad.

I always have the best time at Gabriels. If you're looking for delicious food and a beautiful classy ambience look no further. The staff is so professional and the food absolutely delicious. Ambiance is very important to me and I love the soft lighting and beautiful art work. Gabriel personally goes the extra mile to make sure everyone is having a wonderful experience. Go you won't be disappointed.

Located right next to the Ritz, this restaurant has outdoor seating and a good vibe. I did see them turn away clients only looking to get a drink and the owner told me he doesn't want people to sit outdoor and "drink water". The food was delicious and the service fast and efficient.

typically I wouldn't do a review solely on a single menu item so this will be short but sweet... We stopped by Gabriel's Bar and Restaurant on a Weds afternoon looking for some dessert. They had several items on the menu and I selected the Ricotta Cheesecake. Wow, what a surprise. Although I typically like a fairly thick graham cracker crust, this was thin and hardly there but the cheese was done so well it all fit perfectly. Stop by and give it a try - especially if you have never had ricotta cheese cake.

Food is super good. Classic northern Italian cuisine but in a modern fine dining setting. This place is family run and you feel the love. Best Italian in the city for sure. You will think your Nona is in the back making dishes. I actually had to go to the back and smack the chef after my meal for making the food so darn good...

We moved into the neighborhood just about the time Gabriel's reopened last year. We have been there a number of times, and we have always had great meals. On the nights when they have the duck special, get it. The pastas are all wonderfully prepared, and my go to, the seared tuna, is a perfectly sized portion of exquisitely prepared fish. It's hard to rave about tuna, but i can't say enough about this dish. We have brought many friends and family members, and no one has had a bad pick off the menu or from the specials yet. The service is friendly and warm, and, more likely than not, Gabriel will stop by your table at some point during the night to make sure you are enjoying yourself. It is typically expensive for a midtown fine Italian restaurant, but reservations are available, and you won't be disappointed.

The food is good. We've been twice now and have not been disappointed with any of the food. The service is not the best though. If they would work with their waiters to be a bit more attentive and friendly then this place would be really good.
