17 Truly Great Parms to Try in NYC | Eater NY

"This charming West Village red-sauce Italian is a welcoming neighborhood gem, housed in a great corner space on Christopher Street where the doors are often flung open in warmer weather. Regardless of the season, the chicken parmigiana is a faithfully executed take on the classic, a generous portion swimming in tomato sauce, coated with fresh mozz, and served with a steak knife for cutting through the thick cutlet. Frank Sinatra is often on the soundtrack, and if he’s not, he’s featured prominently behind the bar, via framed portraits and other ephemera hung on brick walls." - Alexandra Ilyashov

I have had this on my list forever. The interior is fantastic, and I figured I’d be able to read a little about the history. I admit we did not have a reservation but we came as close to opening on a Monday as possible. We were seated in their enclosed patio which was very warm, 80ish+ (it’s been a hot summer.) I felt this should have been disclosed before seating, but we did not want to disrupt their service in any way, so we stayed. The oysters were served without ice (?) despite this. We’ve had deals on oysters before but these were definitely aligned with the low price tag. Our mussels had four closed shells so I was skeptical of those as well. We went for veal parmigiana upon recommendation just to full send it rather than ordering much more. It was not a crispy cutlet - sort of a soggy and bland entree. Service felt lingering/overbearing, though she was very nice. Just, overall, not what I expected. Would recommend for a drink at the bar just to see it!

Great meal here, with very attentive service by Damion. Highlight was the gnocchi with sausage - very flavorful and hearty, with huge dumplings. Pesto and chicken was very good, a little over-sauced but nice, tangy flavors. Spaghetti and meatballs were very good, especially the great meatballs. Chicken piccata was excellent as well. Bar service was very good - martini and wine suggestions were very good.

Google
Stopped in while in town from TX and the food is 10/10! Our server Philip was great. Very friendly, helpful and attentive. We had the oysters, spaghetti and meatballs, and stuffed manicotti. (*chefs kiss*) The restaurant is so cute and kept very clean.

Google
Overall I would recommend Gaetano’s but not for a solo diner. It pains me to give less than 5 stars because the food is phenomenal, however the service was frustratingly poor. There were only 2 other tables so I thought it would be quick service. Wrong. Waited for about 5 minutes before anyone came to seat me. Sat at the table for over 20 minutes. Started to grab my purse to leave then a waiter asked I was ready to order. Had been ready for a loooong time. It took another over 20 minutes for the food to arrive. By that time I had to ask for it to go because I had someplace to be. While waiting for the food a group of 6 ladies came in, were seated right away and asked what they’d like to drink. So it felt like if you’re a solo diner particularly over a certain age you are invisible here. I loved the aesthetic of this place, the menu looks amazing and the Caesar salad is out of this world. The Spaghetti with one meatball was incredible. Too bad the service was awful. If I can get a group to come here, I would return but never as a solo diner.

Google
What an amazing experience!!! Loved this place, loved the servers, loved the food, loved the wine, loved everything. We had a group of 7 this night. We had friends visiting from North Dakota and my husband's birthday was in a couple of days. We really lived it up and I regret nothing!!! We ordered 4 appetizers and I only got a picture of the shishito peppers right before we finished them off. The calamari with the Thai dipping sauce was amazing and I almost didn't order it because who wants Thai sauce in an Italian restaurant. Thankfully my son was insistent. I didn't care for the crab cakes. They were too blended for my tastes. I would have preferred them to be chunky. They fell apart just trying to get them off the plate. I wouldn't order those again. Sorry guys! For the entrees, we had a wild mushroom pizza, lasagna, fettuccine alfredo, chicken Marsala, sun dried tomato rigatoni, pescatore, and Gorgonzola chicken rigatoni. We are big on sharing so I actually tasted everything other than the fettuccine and the pescatore. I recommend everything!!!! The Gorgonzola dish was my favorite and luckily it was mine but the pizza was first rate amazing. Honestly I don't think you could go wrong! Finally desserts! My husband got a tiramisu for his birthday (thank you!) and we passed it around the table. I couldn't resist the rest of the dessert menu though. I never order dessert but they had so many of my favorites that we ordered desserts to go for sharing with my kids later. The key lime pie was all mine and it was great. It's not dense like a cheesecake but light and fluffy. I'm used to it being served with berries but they served it with pecans! Game changer. So yummy. Next we had the carrot cake. It was delicious so if carrot cake is your jam you can't go wrong. By far my favorite was the one I almost didn't order; the lemoncello cream cake. Yum! So recap, go there. Just go!

Google
Fantastic Italian restaurant. Food and service were outstanding. The only downside was the air conditioning that was not working, but we sat outside and it didn’t impact us much. Don’t forget to make reservations!!!

Google
Amazing old school atmosphere and very clean and well kept up. Great service by Caden. Good suggestions and friendly and attentive. One of the best Lemon Drop martinis I’ve had in a LONG time in Denver - bartender knows how to make it right. And the food! The Caprese- fresh, robust and perfectly seasoned. The Chicken Parm - top notch. Sausage & Peppers - fantastic flavor. Great portions for the price, especially in over priced Denver. We will be back!

Google
Courtney, our server, was a delight and attentive throughout. The food had phenomenal flavors, and everything was prepared to perfection. It was the best chicken marsala we've had since being stationed in Europe, and the sun-dried rigatoni was unbelievable. The sizes of the entrees were big enough to satisfy, but left just enough room for the family to try out a variety of desserts, all three of which were a hit, too. Wonderful way to finish a memorable meal.

Yelp
We had a friend come in from out of town and another friend recommended this Italian restaurant. We gave it a try for lunch. I loved the ambience. From the photos to the seating to the big beautiful shotgun bar, it's just welcoming and delightful. We had meatballs and cheesy bread, meatball sub, sausage and peppers sandwich, minestrone soup, and a epically hellacious wedge salad. The food was very good. Of the things we tried, my fave was the rich and robust red sauce. I loved it Our server was well educated on the menu and guided us well. Everything was a hit. We will definitely go back. We are currently on a waitlist for a reservation for Valentine's Day dinner. In my experience, this restaurant is underrated.. they could have made changes. But for me, this is the real deal.

Yelp
The creamy gorgonzola pasta is probably the best pasta sauce I've ever had - it's not too strong or pungent! I think it has a perfectly balanced taste to it, so try it even if you're not a huge gorgonzola fan. Chicken is a little on the drier side but just make sure to enjoy it while everything is fresh and warm. The complimentary bread was nice - focaccia was the best of them all. The tiramisu was also pretty delicious - almost exactly how you would want it (but I have no idea what they could do to it to make it better). Service was friendly and attentive. The decor of the place is charming although it can get pretty hot in the summer months since they don't seem to have AC.

Yelp
Celebrating a milestone with my friends. We have been here several times and had never been disappointed, this occasion was no different. As usual, the food and service were outstanding. I'm looking forward to my next meal here.

Yelp
We've been here a few times now for dinner service. Each time were pretty busy and loud. Servers are friendly and check on us often. The linguine alle vongole description didn't have red pepper flakes listed so we had to send it back to the kitchen. It came back 3 more times with just as much red pepper each time. Other than that, the food is good.

Yelp
Top tier Italian, authentic atmosphere, quality taste, service was outstanding and everything went amazing while dining here. The food was so mouth watering delicious cannot wait to go back!!! I want to try everything on the menu!

Yelp
Great place! Service was super nice but a bit slow, the entrees were amazing, and the desserts were outstanding. Fun ambiance even though it was a bit loud, but this place is absolutely hopping even at 5:30pm on a Friday night.

Yelp
This is hands down the best Italian restaurant I've been to. The red sauce is delicious, so well seasoned, thickened, and so nice. The garlic bread was fluffy yet crispy on the outside. The chicken parm was crispy on the outside yet so juicy on the inside. The meatball from the spaghetti and meatballs was so tender and flavorful. We went during lunch so we got the lunch portions and found that it was just right, I don't think we'd be able to finish a full dinner portion. I wish I would've had more space to try dessert because everything there was just so good. The wait staff were friendly and very attentive making the experience even better. We went during lunch time and the restaurant itself is dimly lit which was nice, this would be a great spot to come to in the evening and/or on a date. If I lived in Denver this would be a restaurant I'd put on my rotation

Yelp
Great Italian restaurant in the highlands! Andrew was a very attentive server who provided recommendations right away. We tried the bolognese and rigatoni which both tasted amazing! There was an extensive wine list and recommended pairings with the pasta. Would go back!

Yelp
Cold food my husband's lasagna came out piping hot and mine came out, cold cold waiter named David 100 percent will not be back!!!!!

Yelp
My favorite neighborhood pasta place. Feels like a classic family spot and I love the gnocchi. We also had great dirty martinis and always like to go when craving pasta.

Yelp
Our family came here for my son's birthday based off of other Yelp recommendations, and we were so pleased with everything. The atmosphere is old style Italian with a warm and welcoming vibe. We were greeted and seated promptly for our 5:30 reservation. We were seated in one of the cool semi-circle booths that made conversation easy with our family and the server. The server was kind, personable, and very attentive the entire time. He made good drink suggestions and let us know about the special. We did not feel rushed for drink or food orders. For food, we ordered the calamari fritti, chicken alfredo, chicken piccata, and chicken marsala. We all very much enjoyed our meals. I personally had the piccata, and it was lovely lemony and buttery with the delicious salty capers for balance - really good! I had a hard time deciding between the many options. We also had tiramisu and cannoli for dessert, and our server lit a candle for my son's birthday. We had a wonderful experience, and this is now on our family's list of must return to restaurants.

James S.

Yelp
We were visiting from out of state and a local friend insisted we try Gaetano's. And boy am I glad she did! We loved everything. The eggplant was great - soft and chewy but not mushy. The mushroom gnocchi was delicious. The Gorgonzola rigatoni was fantastic. Just the right amount of funk. Even my daughter's "chicken fingers and fries" were great; an actual chicken breast, breaded and fried, with nice crispy seasoned fries. The tiramisu capped it off. Light, flavorful and not overly sweet. And I'd be remiss not to mention that the service from Andrew was prompt and friendly; he made good recommendations too. Ambience is true, old school Italian. I only wish I didn't live hundred of miles away!

Yelp
What a great happy hour. A wedge salad, a dozen oysters, a bowl of mussels, Brussels sprouts and two glasses of wine for $42. Very good food, good house wine... you can't beat that.

Yelp
W E W I L L B E B A C K ! ! ! SERVICE We were a party of 4. We went to the restaurant at our designated reservation time. We were invited to wait for a short time before being seated at our horseshoe booth. We got seated and comfortable before our waitress came to take care of us. Her name was "Sunny." We found out, as we were being taken care of, that she was from Chicago, but had moved to the Denver area about six years ago. She had worked here for just about six months. If I didn't say it before, Sunny did a GREAT JOB!! BTW...it was our 11th anniversary...we so enjoyed our time!! I got to say...Sunny was a positive bundle of energy. You could see she was very efficient at what she was doing. We personally felt like she was taking care of her tables. She also made sure our needs were definitely taken care of while we were there. She took a photo of all of us at the table before the end of the evening. AMBIANCE What a lovely place with all of the photos from the history of the area. Always enjoy the times that we've been...thank you for continuing to have the Halloween spirit theme for the evening. FOOD We all enjoyed our meals! I had the Ribeye with the potatoes and mushrooms and the vegetables. It was so good...I had to bring it home with me. Very, very good!! Please!!...tell the chef that it was just right for me.

Yelp
Have been wanting to try this neighborhood spot so finally ordered take out. Was a little disappointed. Pasta was fine, but not outstanding. There are other similarly priced spots in the neighborhood that we find better.

Beth W.

Yelp
Had a 6:30 pm reservation on a Thursday night and had to wait 15 minutes standing by the bar being jostled by customers and staff in an environment so noisy it made conversation almost impossible. The good food and wine didn't make up for the rough start. Service was "Meh".

Yelp
This place rules. Have come here a few times for brunch now, and it's great every time. Food is spectacular, wonderful service. Total sleeper here in Denver- don't miss this one. Get the French toast!

Yelp
Delicious Italian restaurant in Denver. Was in town visiting a friend and they said 'this is the spot!' The gnocchi that I had were amazing! They were so light and fluffy, probably the best I've ever had. The place is small, but sufficient and the service was attentive.
google avatar

Yelp
The best Italian food in Denver. Absolutely delicious. Plus, there's some really good history here too. I recommend it to everybody. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Trust me, this place is seriously underrated on Yelp. The food is "old school" but it is super fresh, homemade and delicious. The ambiance is comfy, fun and lively. No one around us, of all ages, was having a bad time. Service was outstanding. Even served us up affogatos at my son's request (celiac) despite not being on the menu. Will return, and highly recommend.

Yelp
Came for a birthday dinner and everything was so good ! The restaurant had a nice dark lighting vibe with very cool wall art ! Service was good deff get a reservation they were busy at 830 on a Saturday night. For app we got the ravioli so good and ordered the garlic bread with dinner Alfredo with shrimp and the creamy Gorgonzola so delicious. Loved the homemade Tiramisu and we also had the lemon cake !

Yelp
The outside of this place looks "scary" - being on a busy street corner. It is deceiving because inside it is a completely different vibe,- very cozy and warm. It takes you back in time. The space is a larger than I expected. Whenever I go to an Italian restaurant, I always order the chicken piccata because I do not cook that dish for myself. The chicken piccata here did not disappoint. I appreciated that the dish did not have a massive amount of pasta and it was simple - focusing on the garnishes and the capers. This would be a fun restaurant to come for a date night or just come to the bar for a cocktail. The staff was pleasant and attentive. I was surprised how busy it was at 8 PM on a Tuesday night. I will be back!

Yelp
This authentic Italian restaurant quickly earned its spot as one of my favorites over the weekend... Gaetano's Italian Restaurant - located in the Highlands - has been serving authentic Italian cuisine for over 70 years with classics such as pasta, pizza, & cocktails. We arrived at Gaetano's, and we were seated in the main dining room, in a booth. The restaurant was decked out for Halloween and the space gave off old Italian vibes with burgundy upholstered seating & dark ambient lighting. Our server, Diego was a pleasure and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Owner, Ron was fantastic; he shared his passion of food & the restaurant business with us and shed some light on Gaetano's robust history in Denver. Gaetano's was once owned by the notorious Colorado Smaldone family. Learning about Gaetano's past made it a really engaging & fun dining experience. Mixologist, Amber was behind the bar providing personality & fabulous cocktails. For cocktails we had the Watermelon Margarita, The Lucky Larcen, the Stoli Pineapple Martini, and Limoncello shots. The Lucky Larcen was made with vodka, fresh lemon, lime, St. Germaine, and fresh basil. This was a refreshing Italian-style mojito that we'll definitely be ordering again in the future; so tasty. The Stoli Pineapple Martini was made with pineapple infused vodka & a dash of sugar. This martini was my favorite drink of the night - the pineapple vodka made for a deliciously crisp & frothy cocktail. A meal at Gaetano's wouldn't be complete without Ron's Limoncello that he makes in-house. We tried the lemon and the grapefruit - both were fabulous. For Antipasti we had Burrata, Calamari Fritti, & Lobster Bisque. The Burrata was made with burrata cheese, prosciutto, balsamic, and grilled ciabatta. The burrata was insanely creamy & ultra fresh, spreading on the ciabatta with a fluffy smoothness that melted in our mouths. The Calamari Fritti was made with breaded calamari, cherry peppers, and house-made marinara sauce. The calamari was coated in a delicately puffy batter that was fried to a golden brown. The sweet batter enhanced the natural taste of the tender calamari. The Lobster Bisque was piping hot and flavorful - perfect for a chilly night. For Pasta Primi we had the Creamy Gorgonzola Rigatoni and the Spaghetti and Meatballs. The Creamy Gorgonzola Rigatoni was made with rigatoni tossed with sauteed mushrooms in a creamy gorgonzola sauce, served with grilled chicken. The creamy gorgonzola was beautifully rich with a smooth texture that made for the perfect pasta sauce (it generously coated each piece of rigatoni). We indulged in each bite of this dish; it was our favorite of the night. The Spaghetti and Meatballs was made with homemade meatballs with veal, pork, and ground beef with marinara sauce & spaghetti. Gaetano's marinara had that droolworthy intense tomato flavor that I expect from a classic Italian spaghetti. The homemade meatball was juicy & smothered in sauce. The Grilled Chicken Salad was made with grilled chicken breast, romaine lettuce, and tossed with vinaigrette - healthy and hearty. For dessert we had the Tiramisu & Cannolis (both must orders). The Tiramisu was elegant & had creamy rich layers of espresso-soaked ladyfingers, cocoa & lightly sweetened mascarpone. Each bite was sinfully smooth & fluffy. The cannolis' deep-fried dough was filled with a sweet ricotta cheese filling and kissed on each side with tiny chocolate chips. What a freaking meal!

Yelp
I came here for lunch one day and the service from the host was quick and prompt. The waiter was a little bit slower but was knowledgeable in answering my question about the items on the menu. I ordered a pizza and it was about the perfect size for two people to share. The price for the pizza was fair but there was a "sharing" surcharge if you order the pizza for the table and a "Kitchen worker appreciation" surcharge as well added to your final total. Overall not a bad experience.

Yelp
Good but not great Italian restaurant in Denver with a cool mafia theme and old school vibe. The service was a bit slow for a Monday night, but they did seem busy. I got the chicken Marsala, it was good but not great. Good size portions.

Yelp
We went for lunch on a recent Saturday, with a reservation which was unnecessary as it was mostly empty at 1pm. The downside, the lunch menu is verrrry limited so we regretted that decision and will be back for dinner. I had the classic - spaghetti and meatballs, the 'large' portion at $20. That's maybe on the high side for two large meatballs and not ALL that much spaghetti - but it was just superb, a knockout dish, I savored every bite. And a lot left to take home, it was so rich and filling. My wife had a simple 'Cacio e Pepe' pasta/cheese dish at $13, (sans the two eggs on top, otherwise included) and it too was fabulously delicious. Simple but amazingly great. Loved the service, the setting and we will be back for dinner, can't wait to sit at the long bar and see what that's like on a busy night! Two parking lots, which I bet fill up quickly, not very large. The only downside - 38th is a busy street and intersection with a light; there is a LOT of loud auto traffic racing by.
google avatar

David T.

Yelp
The service is so-so. The ambience is a bit crowded and it's an old established restaurant. The food is good. Not good enough to be wroth driving any distance for (we live in Boulder) but if you're in the neighborhood, it's fine.

Yelp
This location is a definite must-visit when you find yourself in Denver! Our group decided to stop by here. Let's kick off by highlighting our fantastic server, Don! Big shoutout to Don. Your service was truly appreciated, and your attentive care made us feel valued and respected. Oh, and a special mention to your cat too on your arm! Moving on from Don now! Haha. The restaurant itself is just stunning. Our appetizers were great. Plus, our main courses were delicious! I must admit, my shrimp scampi was a tad underwhelming in appearance; I expected it to be more elevated -- but taste-wise, it surpassed expectations! - The Rosé we ordered was amazing too! Learning about the history of this place is pretty cool I believe it has ties to the mob or something of the sort? Not entirely certain, though. In any case, everyone should definitely swing by and experience this place for themselves!
google avatar

Yelp
IYKYK applies to Gaetano's A true jem in the north Denver restaurant scene. The food, the history, the ambience are all top notch. If you haven't been and are curious check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Denver. Delicious food and I've had everything on the menu. The staff is so friendly I feel like i'm having dinner at a family members home. Such a great spot. I moved across town but still will fight traffic to come here.

Yelp
I was really craving some pasta, specifically, ravioli, and I had seen this place before. I took to Yelp and saw that it had pretty good reviews so I took a chance and went by. I ordered a Caprese salad and a lunch portion of the cheese ravioli. The salad came out, was exactly what I was hoping for, tasted great. But my ravioli took almost 45 minutes to come out after my salad and not only that, it wasn't hot. The pasta tasted fresh, The sauce was great, but it was like it had been sitting there and somebody forgot about it. It was less than Luke warm. I could understand if the restaurant was busy, and the meal took a little longer to come out, but this wasn't the case. When I walked in there, there was only one other table that was occupied. It was maybe five or six ravioli. It wasn't even a ton of them which makes me wonder why did it take so long and why was the dish so cold? For me, that was a very big turn off to the restaurant as a whole. Additionally, the staff was polite, you could tell they knew their customers, but as a new customer, I want to be made to feel just as special as their regulars. People who came in after me were being served their food before I was. I don't think I was being targeted, I don't really know what happened, but I was very disappointed. The entire meal was about $30 and I did appreciate the fact that they automatically add a 4% gratuity for kitchen staff specifically. So in terms of price for the quality of the ingredients, I think it was fair. As always I check the bathroom, and while it was clean and had a changing table, it did have a sewer smell so they might wanna get that checked out. Maybe even a little air freshener machine. Sadly, I don't know if I would recommend this place. First impressions matter and the wait time, the cold meal, and not feeling like I was as important as the rest of the regulars all lead me to give this restaurant a 3.
google avatar

Cameron W.

Yelp
I am now convinced that the people of Denver are victims of Stockholm Syndrome with the local culinary scene. If you dropped this restaurant in almost any other Metro it would be EMPTY. I just got back from Missoula Montana and didn't have a bad meal which made me sad for the culinary potential of the Denver metro and its superior resources. This place gets two stars because the Ambiance is great. I love the setting and it takes you back to time when the local Italian spot was a cornerstone of the neighborhood. The staff were friendly and attentive. We showed up on time for our reservation but had to wait 20 minutes for a table to open up. What's the point of a reservation? Gaetano's loses three stars on the food and drink portion of the experience. The bread that comes out when you sit down at the table was flavorless. It was a chore to eat. We attempted to dip it in the olive oil and balsamic at the table but they may have even worsened the experience. The olive oil was also flavorless and even lacked the consistency of oil you find at almost any other restaurant. The balsamic was flat out offensive. We ordered the fried ravioli and zucchini as appetizers. If the breading is the most important part for you, then you may like these dishes but everything else about them was bland and uninspiring. They also do not match their pictures on the websites menu. Very misleading. Update your website if you've changed the menu or presentation of your dishes. It's 2024. Hire someone if you can't do it yourself. I HAVE to mention the parchment paper from an airport Chili's that came with both dishes. Pictures attached. On to the main courses. We were recommended to try to the Gnocchi from a friend who normally knows a good dish at a restaurant. I think this friend may have suffered a head injury. The gnocchi when we went tasted like boxed mash potatoes wrapped in a sad pasta. The sauce on the gnocchi was decent but it could not make up for the pasta. The Chicken Parmesan tasted like a TV Dinner. Remember when I said the ambiance of the restaurant takes you back to another time? This dish tasted like a point in time where food staples were heavily rationed. The $13 cocktails were made with well alcohol. I would send these back at a dive bar. We were offered a chance to look at the dessert menu but my capacity for disappointment had already been reached. We paid our check and moved on with our lives. Two stars.

Yelp
We popped in here around 8 on a Saturday night and it was packed but got seated at the bar right away! It is pretty dark inside, especially once the sun was down. We started off with the mussels and they were fantastic. The white wine broth was so flavorful. I would come back here again just to have the mussels. I could have used a few more pieces of bread. We got the carbonara and bolognese. The Carbonara was the winner. Very light but packed with flavor. We got a bottle of wine, nothing too special. I was surprised to the size of their wine list, I thought they would have had more. Overall, it was a great dinner and would absolutely come back!

Yelp
Had brunch at Gaetano's today and the entire experience was amazing. We were greeted at the door with a friendly smile. Our waiter Don was superb. He started with filling my water glass and it never was empty the entire time. Let's talk about the food. We started with the Fruity Pebbles pancake. OMG! It was so good! I cannot even describe how light and delicious it was. I then had the chicken parm with their house made Alfredo sauce that I was informed that they make fresh with every order. Spectacular! We ended with the olive oil cake. Don't let the name fool you. This was the lightest, freshest tasting cake that you will ever experience. If you are looking for a perfect Italian brunch spot, look no further than Gaetano's. You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Gaetano's is a great spot for a plethora of events. Drink and dinner, a snack at the bar or a friend's night out. I'm going to get the negative things out of the way. One, is the atmosphere was a little too loud for my liking and two, it was way too hot. Service was great and our meal came out in a timely manner. Indulged myself with a glass of moscato wine which was lovely and tasty. Garlic Cheese Bread. Came out with four big texas toast slices and a big cup of marinara. The best starter and great for the price. Sausage and Peppers. So fresh and yummy. The entire dish was spectacular with just the right amount of savory from the tomato and sausage and enough tang from the bell peppers to even it out. All around a lovely dining experience to spend a mother's day meal. They even gave my mom a beautiful pink rose!

Yelp
We wanted a full satisfying meal, but the lunch portions are unexpectedly really small. The prices are decent, but it was an okay experience. The menu options felt really limited for lunch, which is unfortunate cuz we were looking forward to this meal. Service was nice and quick.

Yelp
The atmosphere is amazing old-school gangster restaurant from the 40s the food. The sausage and peppers was amazing just like Nonna would make the service is incredible. Even the employees know the dating back to the 40s. I think that's really important when you walk into a place like this all the pictures on the Walls stories about the FBI hiding in the gas station across the street the place was bugged the tunnels underneath, I would definitely make this a stop if you're in the Denver area

Yelp
Great atmosphere and our waiter, Don is the man! He truly made our experience great. The mushroom pizza. Lobster rigatoni, and burrata were our faves. We will be back!

Yelp
Delicious food. Fast service. Cute small place. Loved the old school Italian decor! I wish I could have tried more desserts. They all looked so good but had to go with the classic cannolis.

Yelp
I went here for the veal parm on my birthday. The mood is pretty solid and the atmosphere is quaint. The prices are mid pricey. It was disappointing!!! It was overcooked and you really couldn't taste what you were eating. And the spaghetti that came with it came out cold! Smh. Our waiter seemed to be ready to go home. A different waitress was real cool and told us to get the tiramisu (which was pretty good). The other cake dessert was good too. My friends got the sausage gnocchi which was really good and I wish I ordered that.

Yelp
Fun restaurant on the west side of town with a retro feel. I don't know the full backstory but I do know it's quite an institution and has a lot of history. Came in for happy hour, stayed through dessert. Happy hour wines are a good value but the food selection is limited. I think next time I'll plan to stop in for one round and then go somewhere else for a full meal if I'm looking for a deal. Ordered some Brussels and shishito peppers. Both were simple but well executed. Opted for a chicken Marsala entree. Nothing spectacular but decently executed. Tiramisu for dessert which was light and fluffy and definitely worth it. Restaurant got super busy as the night went on, surprising for the middle of the week. Overall a fun place to check out for Denver's history.

Yelp
One of our favorites that we frequent when visiting CO. Food is always solid and the vibe is always top notch. Had a reservation around 2:30 which only includes their lunch menu -- which is a significantly smaller menu than their dinner. So if you want to enjoy all their pastas book for later in the day. Ordered an Aperol Spritz and Garlic Bread w Marinara to start. Everything was great and the sauce is amazing! For the main we both got Spaghetti & Meatballs (lunch portion). The meatballs are always a favorite and easily one of their best dishes.

Yelp
This bar is just calling you isn't it?! Great happy hour and such classic old time Italian vibes here. Had delish calamari and sausage in a biscuit thing! Super yummy! Bartender was friendly and attentive, will be back!

Yelp
Gaetano's is a great option for brunch or dinner in North Denver. Serving many Italian classics, this restaurant is said to be an old mob hangout! To start, I had the lobster bisque which was complete with small chunks of lobster throughout. For entrees, we had the chicken picatta and bolognese. Chicken picatta is one of my favorite meals and this one was pretty good. The lemon caper sauce was bright and well balanced. I did wish the chicken would have been pounded a bit thinner, though. Overall, if you're looking for a unpretentious yet quality restaurant in North Denver, Gaetano's is a great place for pasta and more.

Yelp

Yelp
It's a Denver Italian classic. Reservations are a must because this place gets jam-packed. I had the eggplant Parmesan, and it was good, but I don't know if I would get it again. We also shared the calamari, and it disappointed us. It came with a sweet glaze-type sauce under the calamari and no marinara. It felt like an Asian-style calamari. My husband got the Gorgonzola rigatoni, and it was tasty. And our desserts were solid. Our meal and experience were good but could have been better. I would order differently next time in hopes of making it a 5-star experience.

Yelp
I had dinner here on a Friday night while in town for a conference. The history, vibe, and food made it a memorable experience and the highlight of my trip. The bolognese was fantastic. My friends loved the lobster ravioli and gnocchi. I would recommend making a reservation for a booth. This place has a fascinating history. It was founded in the 40s by a mobster family and was once the site of illegal gambling among other activities. Frank Sinatra and Al Capone apparently dined here. Ask your server about the history/google it. It's apparently a Denver icon. Also, I hear that the basement is paranormally active. It would be so cool if the owner brings in the Ghost Adventures team to investigate it!

Yelp
Good food and loved the ambience. Only thing is.... I made reservations weeks ago because I'd already been turned away on a Tuesday at 5:30 once. The reservation asked if I was celebrating an occasion, I inputted "birthday". Then, on the "additional notes" section I added "if there is a complimentary birthday celebration offered, we would like that please". I ordered cocktails and my server actually questioned if my ID was real (it was on my birthday and I was turning 24, I just have a TN ID...) finally, we're there and 3 bday tiramisus with candles go past me (2 delivered to the booth directly in front of me). When I was in the bathroom my bf asked the server if he would by-pass offering us a dessert menu go ahead and put in an order of tiramisu for my birthday. The server insisted he had it covered. 5 minutes later he came back asking if he could "entice us with a dessert menu", completely forgetting what my bf just asked him. We put in an order of tiramisu, which came with no candle like the other birthday celebrations. When we finished it we were offered the check which included a $10 tiramisu and a "happy new year". After the 3rd degree of my ID, the multiple notes on my reservation, and my bf pulling the server aside, how many more times do I have to ask for your *complimentary* birthday service to receive it? P.S. this is coming from someone who doesn't normally care about their birthday but somebody who is a professional in customer experience and this was a lacking display of service.
