Best Arab American Coffee Shops in Dearborn | Eater Detroit

"Walking into Galata Sweets feels like being transported to one of Istanbul’s alleys, from the wall art to the Turkish lamps. Turkish coffee is strong, bold, and bittersweet because of the cezvu brewing method — a small pot with a long handle is placed directly on the heat source to brew. Galata Sweets makes a delicious frothy version called kahvesi that can also be ordered with pistachios." - Courtney Burk

This spot had been on my list for quite some time, I actually bookmarked it just for their stunning mosaic lights and the ambience. The lighting alone is absolutely beautiful and gives the place a warm, magical vibe. We stopped by after a good, filling dinner elsewhere, hoping to enjoy some dessert, and honestly the best part ended up being that they're open till 3 AM. We placed our order at the counter and took a seat. My friends wanted to try the Adeni tea, but the pale color already predicted how it was going to taste and it wasn't great. We also ordered kunafa and baklava, and both were super disappointing, especially considering how pricey they were. Definitely not worth the cost. They did have live music going on, which added a nice touch, but overall the desserts and drinks didn't match the ambience or the expectations I had from this place.

Even though the nice man behind the register forgot about the options of non sweet foods they have i still had an amazing experience here! I found out later when a group of ladies came in that they DO have other foods besides sweets 😂❤️ The kanafa was perfect!! Even without any of the syrup added it was amazing! The cheese pull needed a video but i was too busy enjoying it to care. I will definitely come back for the food that i came for in the first place😂 The Turkish coffee was amazing as expected from a Turkish coffee shop❤️❤️💪 Copper plate and copper coffee pot was so nice to see too! Beautiful find in dearborn! And the gas station 1 block away has gas for $2.27 a gallon so im going to wait in the line of cars to get some now😂❤️

Google
Always excellent and friendly service. Great selections. High quality tasting. Lots of selections from Turkey and Southern Europe. Our favorite coffee shop in Dearborn.

Google
My sister and I couldn’t stop thinking about the sweet Turkish coffee from our last visit, so we made another trip out to Dearborn. And we were so impressed! The coffee was just as good as we remembered, perfectly sweet and rich. We also tried the Basque cheesecake, and it was absolutely amazing. Super creamy with the best texture. And the layered chocolate cake we split? Almost too pretty to eat! The staff is super friendly, and the vibe is always great. I even got to catch a live performance during one of my previous visits, such a cool way to experience local artist.

Google
Got food to go because this was on the way to my coffee shop. I got the Donor beef on Turkish bread. I was so pleasantly surprised! The guy behind the counter was so sweet and very patient with me as I was incredibly indecisive. So happy I went with the Donor beef! The meat was juicy and seasoned to perfection and the portion was HUGE! I had enough for leftover for the next day which I really appreciated! Also got one of the authentic Turkish sodas and it was so delicious! I’ve never seen them so I really appreciate the restaurant importing authentic Turkish beverages for ppl to try. I also got some baklava assortments and by far imo was the classic and pistachio!10/10! 💖

Google
I’ve already visited Galata Sweets twice in just two days, and I can’t get enough! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with the rich aromas of freshly made treats, and the flavors definitely live up to the hype. I tried their baklava, which was perfectly flaky and sweet—just the right balance of honey and nuts. The Turkish tea was the ideal companion, hot and soothing. The cheese pogaca was a savory delight, with a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture, and the pistachio milky kataifi was pure indulgence. Every bite was better than the last, and I honestly wanted to try more of their menu. On top of the delicious food, the live music really added to the vibrant, cozy atmosphere. It made the whole experience feel even more special and lively. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the ambiance was perfect for a relaxing yet energetic visit. It’s safe to say I’ll be coming back again and again. Highly recommend!

Google
The Turkish coffee service for 2 was the best my husband & I have ever had! The tiramisu was delicious & fresh. Our kids loved the lemon ice cream and Turkish delights! We appreciated the complimentary treats that came with our order, too! The beautiful music was a bonus!!! I’ve been back already, but I plan to return!

Google
This amazing spot serves up incredible and delicious food! Don’t miss the coffees and desserts – they’re absolutely must-tries! It’s a great place to hang out with friends and family, and the decorations are top-notch.

Yelp
I am grateful for offering us the delicious of Türkiye even though we are far away from it. Clean and soooo delicious.

Yelp
The hype is real when it comes to Turkish cultural experience here. The pizza here is at a top notch level! accommodate your requests with no issues from scan menu. Ambiance is nice dim lighting is just right with beautiful Turkish lamps, but the food... wow, just perfect! It's worth every bite. I like seeing that quality control in a restaurant, makes me feel like my money is well spent. It also reflects on the singer too very beautiful voice . That is all. Chief He who falls by the sword did not respect life. :/)) :)) (:=))

Yelp
We had a lovely family visit here one early morning while in Dearborn. I appreciated how early they open. We were bopping our way through the area for a progressive breakfast. Galata Sweets looks like a Disney for Turkish+ sweets. We ordered Kanafe warmed up, fresh carrot orange juice and another treat (failed to get the name) that was a little too fried and sweet for our liking. The kanafe and juice were both delightful. We could have bought much more but fought the urge to overload our first stop. Note that you have to purchase ahd order juices separately from the baked goods counter. Highly recommend if you're in the area! While you're here, bop next door to sesame house and thank us later! We enjoyed our self-guided sweet then savory food crawl!

Yelp
Went to pick up baklava and Kunefe. The sweets were delicious, the plain baklava especially was rich and flavorful. Service was excellent - while we waited for our kunefe they brought us complimentary Turkish tea! The ambiance was also beautiful, and there was a violinist playing live in the cafe
google avatar

Manny M.

Yelp
A highly must if you're in the area and you want something different from the norm! We showed up here with every expectation of Turkish desert and they delivered highly! The theme / decor really brings parts of Turkey to Dearborn but more importantly the desert, Baklava (with a spin of added ice cream) and the Turkish coffee was amazing. The location has one cashier who also serves your order but definitely take your time and talk to them as they were very helpful in making big decisions amongst so many great choices. There was an entertainer with a guitar but not sure if that's a daily thing or we happened to be there when they offered. Great setting for family and friends.

Yelp
Where do you go for Sunday brunch with a heat advisory in place? You seek out a nice and cool restaurant to meet a dear friend, who is a vegetarian. We decided to try something new and different. We dined in at the Dearborn location of Galata Turkish Sweets. I had been here for Turkish coffee but not eat. Since this was both of our first time dining here, we ordered a table full of dishes. We were being adventurous! Many items we ordered we had to ask our friend, Google, what they were we weren't familiar with Turkish cuisine. This made our brunch even more fun. We ordered lentil soup, a chikofte plate for an appetizer, the special mini meze with one skimit and 5 sides, the eggs & sucuk and from the blender, an ayran cup. This came with multiple breads. Emre was nice enough to explain what we had before us. We dove in tasting the various items until we were full. I loved the eggs and sucuk. It was perfect for a late breakfast and an early lunch. The chikofte plate was delicious too. We appreciated all the flavors and spices. My only drawback for me was my Ayran cup was not my cup of tea. I figure it for those with an acquired taste for this yogurt-based drink. We were so full that we didn't leave any room for dessert this time around.

Yelp
Such a fun experience at Galata sweets! My cousin brought us here as her husband is Turkish, and he thought the food was great! I enjoyed the tomato and egg dish and the various cheeses to pair with breads and jams in the breakfast dish.

Yelp
Very delicious! Would definitely come back. Loved the decor with all the lamps from the ceiling. Didn't get to taste the baklava but it looked good. Pictures- meat platter Avocado shake Beef wrap Hummus
google avatar

Dawn V.

Yelp
OMG how I love this place- and everyone who works here is so friendly... I was walking around town killing time because my favorite avocado shake is in the menu for 5:00pm (no idea why but you should wait for it, it's that good) and I showed up at 4:59 annoying I know but they were so nice about it I've previously had breakfast here and all was delicious but I come back for this avocado concoction (and it's so rich, it lasts for days!! Or share it) I truly try NOT to take a few pieces of that chocolate baklava home but you should try that too- the boys are so friendly, you'll buy up everything
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
A very cool cafe. Nice decoration. It's a self order they bring you the food. Loved the place and the "Turkish Tea" was really authentic and I definitely enjoyed my time there
google avatar

Safia S.

Yelp
Came here based on the reviews. The shop is nicely decorated and clean. I grabbed some baklava for myself and as a gift. The server was very pleasant. I was fasting so didn't get to try the baklava until 2 hours later. I got a variety of about 5 different kinds and each was more inedible than the last. Sickeningly sweet, drenched in syrup with no crunch whatsoever over. Just soggy! This is not what baklava is supposed to taste like

Yelp
Galata sweets is a *very* well established Turkish Coffee and pastry shop in Dearborn. The coffee is always amazing, regardless of its traditional Turkish, and Americano, a cappuccino or espresso. Warning tho if you've never had Turkish coffee it is lava hot, remarkably strong and served in a stunning copper pot and cup. The setting of Galata is colorful with traditional seating with separators on the shared spaces and beautiful chandeliers. Despite the coffee being made as authenticity Turkish - they are still fast. I've been here when it's very very busy but today is Eid so it's a little less busy because many are still fasting. Enjoy

Yelp
I fell in love with Turkish coffee when I was younger and on an international assignment in the Middle East to include frequent trips to Turkey. The full bodied nature of this coffee really appeals to me where Galata's makes a very good and authentic cup of this style of coffee. Interacting with the staff of this restaurant while waiting for my coffee to brew brought back great memories of my younger years of enjoying a cup of Turkish Coffee with friends or while meeting and making new friends. Relative to my first dining experience here, I came into this business with the express purpose of trying only their deserts and coffee where I got an assortment of the sweets they had on hand which included their house made Baklava which was delicious and the star of the deserts I had. while eating the deserts I kept seeing these tempting entrees come out of their kitchen for other customers where I felt absolutely compelled (: to to try more of what this business has to offer and ended up getting a traditional Turkish Beef sandwich that was soooo tasty. Definately a good call on my part! Overall, good friendly service and tasty food are a hard combination to beat which this business meets in spades. If you like Turkish food and/or want to expose your palate to something new Than you should definately check this business out.

Yelp
First time here and I will definitely be back! The TURKISH COFFEE here is so bold and full of flavor! There's so many different shapes, layers and textures of baklavas I had a hard time choosing even just three! And they were delightful! The service and staff were very welcoming and informative especially it being my first time here I pretty much got the hang of know what I was ordering and what were the base ingredients. They have live music and the colors, furniture, decor are all so nice to look at. I HADDD to snap some photos of the light fixtures. Definitely recommend trying some sweets and dining in.
google avatar

Jack G.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience here! The ambiance transforms you from Dearborn to Istanbul when you walk in the door. The sweets are great (my cheesecake was delicious). Tried a sandwich for lunch and it was wonderful. Service is impeccable. Highly recommend
google avatar

Nay W.

Yelp
Wanted to try something I never had and the salep was described as a sweet cream. It was delicious and hot. I was taking small sips so i aassumed that the cream was on top and there was another liquid underneath. When it began to cool it started getting thick. I stuck a knife in to discover that it was all "sweet cream." After looking it up, i found that it is actually orchid flour, which explains why it became so thick after cooling. I enjoyed it, but it was too much for me to finish & the texture change after cooling wasn't to MY liking. (I'd ask for less & drink it quickly.) The baklava was just as deliciously sweet as i'd hoped.

Yelp
If you want the taste of Turkey.. this is the place to come! Located in Dearborn, MI! Nice intimate location for meeting friends! I had the Turkish cofffee and some delicacies! Great service and there was even live entertainment while I was there! I highly recommend this Turkish spot!

Gina M.

Yelp
Food- Kanafa was excellent. Cappuccino was delicious. Turkish ice cream was soft and creamy. Pistachio baklava was too sweet for my taste. Turkish coffee was alright. Service- excellent Ambiance- Turkish coffee house vibes This place has Turkish sweets and variety of coffees. I will definitely recommend, especially for the Turkish ice cream.

Yelp
It was nice to have a good Turkish breakfast again as it's been over a year since we've been back to Türkiye. The food was excellent and they had live music the morning we went. May come back again this evening to sample the desserts.
google avatar

Enjoli C.

Yelp
Can't remember the names of each dish but they were all amazing and my taste buds enjoyed the new burst of flavors. The cheese cake was perfect. Creamy and not overly sweet. The Turkish decor was breathtaking and I felt like I was traveling to Turkey. I will be going back very soon
google avatar

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place looking for some good baklava while I was in Dearborn and this place did not disappoint first time having Turkish tea. It was absolutely brilliant very good. Very tasty the milky baklava never had it this way and it is absolutely phenomenal. I will definitely be back the settingto this restaurant was very peaceful. I had live music all around. Dearborn has very very nice restaurants cafés just stuff to do for everybody.

Yelp
As someone who was just visiting Michigan for the weekend, I never would have expected to encounter such an authentic Turkish place in Dearborn! But alas, here it was! When you step in, you immediately know it is authentic based on all the Turkish decor around and the delicious food with unique presentation. Menemen ($17.95 + $4.95 for sucuk) - This is like a Turkish version of a classic breakfast platter, with eggs, tomato, and onions in a plate covered with melted cheese. The sucuk (Turkish sausage) was a good addition to have some meat in there. This is a delicious breakfast option. Gozleme spinach/cheese ($6.95) - These are like little crispy fried pancakes with spinach/cheese inside. A tasty pastry-type breakfast or snack. Sütlaç ($7.95) - This is a delicious Turkish rice pudding. Not overly sweet and has a nice creamy consistency. Ayran cup ($5.95) - This Turkish yogurt drink was basically salted yogurt. Kind of an interesting flavor for those not accustomed to it, but not bad at all. Turkish coffee ($4.95 for 12 oz) - If you are a coffee fan, this is a must try, not just for the flavor but also the unique and authentic presentation. They bring the coffee with these cute intricately designed Turkish cups and a coffee pot (if you choose to get a pot). The coffee is quite strong so they also serve them with little cube-shaped sweet Turkish delights, which taste like a combo of chocolate ganache and marshmallow layers. As mentioned, the environment really sets this place apart, as it really feels like a Turkish bakery/restaurant with Turkish designs all around, including the famous mosaic hanging lighting overhead. They are also playing Turkish music. The staff are friendly and the service speed is quick. It was pretty busy on a weekend morning, but we were able to get a table with no issues. Overall, if you are looking for a breakfast/brunch/snack/dessert in Dearborn and interested in an authentic Turkish experience, then I would highly recommend you visit Galata.

Yelp
Always always the very best Baklava and shortbread date cookies the cookies were a surprise. She let me taste one and I bought a dozen. Definitely will go back

Yelp
Introduced to Turkish coffee and sweets only recently. Amazed by the flavor and presentation by each pastry they have on display. Not a fan of coffee? Galata Sweets also brew tea and offer American inspired desserts like cheesecake and mousse cakes. Arrived at 7pm and the people were enjoying the music played lived by a local musician. A guy plays a flute and a female musician is playing a violin. Free entertainment. Some guests ate dinner. Their menu consists of meat and vegetarian meals. I've seen wraps, kebabs and fries on the list. For the coffee, they can brew Turkish, American and Espresso. Pair it with their sweet baklava, kanafe, cakes and cheese cakes. Love the ambiance. Baristas make the coffee fresh and also serve the meals for you. Very friendly staff. Prices reasonable. Interior of the dining area is inspired with Turkish flag, colorful lights and wood carvings. Galata is situated in corner street and the Parking is just across. Very conveniently located. Highly recommend Galata Sweets!

Yelp
Their Too Good To Go options are NOT WORTH IT. They convinced me to buy 2 instead of 1... and both were exactly the same, had no idea what anything was, and tnere were NO pastries/ bakery items at all. I got 2 containers of room temp white pasta and other stuff that we had no idea what it was. No baklava or pastries, and they looked at me like I was crazy walking in there to pick up my TG2G order.
google avatar

Chrissy B.

Yelp
I ordered a too good to go from this place and the pastry's were so good! I will defiantly be back! Also the store is so cute!
google avatar

Deena S.

Yelp
Been here a couple times for coffee but just tried breakfast on my most recent visit, and I'm sad I didn't try it sooner. I ordered the cheese pide and I added an egg, bastirma, and veggies to it. My only complaint would be that I thought the egg would be on the runny side, as it looked on their online menu, but it came out fully cooked like the other toppings - still it was very flavorful and I loved it. My friend ordered the Lebanese Fateh and although she said it could have used more garlic flavor, she still really enjoyed it. Very cute decor as well, and workers are all so sweet.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this place!! My friend and I wanted to try some Turkish sweets and picked a few Turkish delight flavors to try ($19/lb). The owners were so kind and gave us tea on the house! The candies and tea were all amazing!

Yelp
Delicious tops. #galatasweets @galatasweets #buzzybooth. Highly recommended. My three meals are day. Worth making a trip from Chicago
google avatar

Yelp
Food is great and freshly made. Service is fast the best if it all is the ambiance and the live artist performer. It takes you right to turkey and galata vibes without leaving your town. Highly recommend for group brunch and hang out with friends and family
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing - my favorite place to go when in Dearborn because the vibes make you feel like you're back home. Nice music, the best sweets and a whole pot of tea - what could you want better than that. The owners are two brothers from Turkey who speak Turkish and Arabic and English. They are very kind and even remembered us just from the few times we came in over 2 years! Can't wait to go back

Rahaf A.

Yelp
It was really delicious! Honestly, I've tried Turkish desserts from many places, but yours tastes different.
google avatar

Yelp
Istanbul is one of my favorite cities to visit so I was super excited when I saw this place nearby and it did not disappoint. Tried the pide, menemen, simit, baklava, and tea and all were delicious and exactly as I remember from Istanbul. I opted to add veggies to my cheese pide but wouldn't do that again as the cheese on its own is so flavorful that it doesn't need the extra boost. Staff were also very friendly and ambiance very nice. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Sohaib L.

Yelp
Super friendly staff, they will walk you through the whole menu if needed. The place is beautiful on the inside, when not crowded it's so peaceful. I tried their desert and pistachio latte, and it was made to perfection. Pistachio tres leche was one of the best I had, not super sweet. Specially the creamer on top. Just wow! They are halal!
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Beautiful place with tasty sweets! Must try their Turkish coffee in the cute cups. I loved!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
This is a cute little cafe. I got some things out of the case to go, baklava and turkish delight. The baklava is very heavily saturated with syrup, so it is soft and not crispy like some Greek baklava is, fyi. I also got some kind of pastry with pistachio cream. The pastry was ok but I prefer the pistachio cream I have gotten from Italian stores, but others may like it. I tried pistachio cake and the texture was good, but it did not taste like anything. Friendly staff.

Yelp
Outstanding flavors prepared with great care make this spot truly special. We enjoyed every mouthful, but equally as distinctive was the gracious service. Our server made excellent suggestions and was genuinely interested in making our experience great. We recommend Galata Sweets highly and will return when we are next in the Detroit area.

Yelp
My friends and I were heading to Dearborn to check out the Henry Ford museum and ventured downtown to grab some coffee. My boyfriend stopped the car when driving by Galata Sweets exclaiming "wait that's Turkish!!". My boyfriend is from Istanbul and has only been here for a few years. He was so excited so we decided to stop in. The place it self is stunning! Everything is decorated beautifully with wall art and Turkish lamps. Traditional Turkish music was playing and my boyfriend said it reminded him of home. It was really busy but the wait staff was able to clear us a table within 15 minutes of arriving. The tables have fun vests and Turkish hats as some simple decor. We will definitely make reservations next time. We ordered a whole feast to share among 4! Smit- amazing! Came out warm and fluffy yet crispy! Menemen- we added cheese and sausage, it was well spiced and came out warm. Cheese plate- had 3 different types of cheeses our favorite being the braided one! Olives- both my Turkish boyfriend and Greek friend agreed they were amazing! Dips- it came with a pistachio spread, Nutella, Tahini, strawberry jam, and honey. We all decided that the pistachio spread was the best! Labneh- mouth watering and so unique! The mint and summac were game changers Manti- great but definitely not something I would order in the morning with breakfast. Gozleme- perfectly cooked with melty cheese! Turkish tea- came out in cute cups and tasted great! Kunefe- could have used a bit more cheese but definitely get it with ice cream!!! The ice cream was so unique and not too sweet. Needless to say but this place is amazing! My boyfriend raves about its authenticity and great menu. Our service was quick and our waitress was so fun! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Ugh so torn. Kind of want to give it a 3 but that feels mean because they just opened and the dessert was good and so was the ambiance so I'll up to a 4. I was super excited to try this place but I ignored some google reviews that said food wasn't that good and it's expensive. They were right. All of this was almost $60. Now I don't mind paying for good food. But most of the food, other than the desert, was mediocre and the worst pide I've had. The only outstanding thing was the baklava. Their other desserts looked good too We ordered the menemen (eggs), some phyllio dough and cheese thing, pide, labneh, baklava, and a salt yogurt drink. The eggs weren't bad but it tastes like something a 10 year old can make. Nothing special. I wouldn't order it again. Just tastes like a regular omelette with peppers. Definitely NOT worth the nearly $18. The pide bread tasted like little Cesar's without the sauce. I had pide at 2 other places and also Costco sells frozen ones. All of those were ****miles**** better than this one. The crust on the other ones were perfection. This one was just like tough bread. The labneh was good but it's labneh. You can't really mess it up. But $7 almost for that TINY amount. That's ridiculous. Had I known it was that small I wouldn't have gotten it. The phyllio and cheese thing was fine but I was too full by the time I got to it. The aryan drink with salt and yogurt was not for me. I won't hold it against them though. I just never tried and wanted to. It also tasted like it had garlic in it. I guess it's probably an acquired taste. The baklava was good and the other desserts looked good. If you're looking for a cute cafe to hang out in and get some dessert and drinks, this is a good place. But if you want a meal, avoid tbh.

Yelp
just perfect place for turkish food and awesome staff& management one bite away from İstanbul

Yelp
I found this place by browsing the map to find something interesting in downtown Dearborn. Galata was listed as a Turkish Bakery so I was excited to try it out. The inside is nice and they have a good selection of items. I wanted to try several things but decided on the cheesecake. Flavor-wise, it was the best cheesecake I've ever had but it was baked just a tad bit too long. The other guest got a pack of Macarons and they were quite good! I most definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a nice dessert.

Cindy C.

Yelp
Oh my im stuffed. I had to try so many things. All of them are wonderful and of course I also had the coffee. Worth the stop in.
google avatar

Danielle D.

Yelp
The ambiance in this place is amazing. I walked in and was immediately astonished by the cultural decor. I came on a weekday so it was empty. I forgot the name of the dessert I ordered but it was sort of like a pudding with a pistachio light layer on top. For $11 it was kind of pricey but it was delicious! You can find all kinds of dessert here. Overall i would definitely come again!

Yelp
Very beautifully decorated dessert shop at the heart of West Dearborn. There are elements of Turkish heavily incorporated into the design. They have an assortment of Turkish desserts as well American staples like cheesecake. I ordered a caramel macchiato and they made it pretty quickly. Staff were really nice, I even got a complimentary Turkish delight with my order.

Yelp
Stopped in here to grab baklava as we were waiting to eat at a restaurant nearby. We tried the walnut baklava. Super good but I wish It was a little flakier. The restaurant is really nice and small cafe type of environment. I spotted a pistachio tres leches that I'll need to try next time!!!

Yelp
What an absolutely fantastic place this is! Authentic turkish food is so delicious, service is outstanding and atmosphere is above and beyond with a fantastically decorated interior and live music experience. Their coffees and teas are all great. Latte is my favorite, so as the turkish coffee. They always make sure to serve it with a piece of turkish delight on a side. As to the main dish - everything is delicious, but especially the lamaçun pizza with meat and vegetables. Loved everything about this place and will be coming back soon
