Gambrinus is an old style Lisbon classic, which welcome their guests in the very same way for the last 50 or 60 years. My last visit was on a monday, the day of the week when they have in the menu 'Empadso de Perdiz'. My first visit for this special was in 1985, with my boss an mentor at the time, and since then I come back at more or less regular intervals, sometimes even alone, to enjoy the same dish only available on mondays.
You can also try the 'croquetes' beef patties that are also emblematic, with the 'gambrinus', which is a short glass of tasty brown beer. Another absolute must are the 'carabimeiros', the large and soft red shrimps, that are usually fried in garlic butter and sided by plain rice.
Very eclectic wine cellar with multiple choices of exquisite wines and in the end, drink the special made coffee in the double glass syphoon coffee maker, along with an old Portuguese aguardente in an heated glass, which preparation is a show by itself.
If you are in a mood to indulged yourself or your guests, don't miss the 'Crepes Suzete', flambé in the dinning room just in front of you, with tastes of orange, cointreau and an amazing aromatic smell.
For seating, choose between the long bar in the entrance, or the two seatting dinning rooms, very warm in the winter days and nights with their comfortable manor house decoration, made of solid wood tables, large high back support chairs, impecable white linen, porcelains and silver cutlery.
Old tradition at its best in one of the Lisbon classics.
