The Most Underrated Restaurants in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"This Chinatown-International District restaurant, open until 2 a.m. most days, is a favorite among Seattle restaurant industry folks for its comforting rice claypots filled with sausage, chicken, bok choy, and other ingredients, and for its fried chicken — served with rice and gravy. The XO-sauce-covered green beans are also not to be missed. The intimate bar at the restaurant is the perfect spot for a shot, a beer, and conversations with strangers after a long shift. Despite being one of Shota Nakajima’s favorite restaurants in Seattle, Gan Bei is not well known outside of the industry." - Eater Staff

Seattle’s Best Chicken Wings | Eater Seattle

"Gan Bei is known best for Chinese American comfort food like sausage rice claypots and chicken thighs with gravy, but the Chinatown-International District spot also turns out top-notch chicken wings with garlic, jalapeno, scallions, and crushed red chile pepper. Note that the no-frills bar is adults-only." - Eater Staff

Best Fried Chicken Restaurants in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"This Chinatown-International District bar serves some of the best Chinese comfort food around, and its signature dish is fried chicken thighs and drumsticks. At Ganbei, the meat is seasoned mildly, and the batter is light and crackly, locking the juice inside. All orders come with warm five-spice gravy and rice. The XO-sauce green beans make a nice, umami-packed side to a chicken dinner." - Jade Yamazaki Stewart

Seattle Restaurants That Are Great for Dining Alone | Eater Seattle

"Gan Bei used to be the late-night C-ID hangout for chefs who wanted some Chinese fried chicken or sausage claypot with a beer after their shifts. Last call for food is now at 9:30 p.m., but the small restaurant remains a refuge for those who want to enjoy the comfort of a meal without conversation. And the XO-sauce green beans are not to be missed." - Jade Yamazaki Stewart

Google
The food is authentic but very salty. We even asked the restaurant to use less salt (per their recommendation on the shredded chicken dish) on all dishes but the food still came out very salty. Good vibe with all kinds of people and cozy atmosphere.

I'm not used to going to places like this but the server/bartender was extremely kind to me, my partner and my inlaws when we went. Made sure to answer my question with kindness and patience! Food was very good and in larger portions than I was expecting :) they ended up sharing more of the meat dishes but I ate as much as the mushroom mapo tofu as I could before being stuffed!

Google
We ordered the fried calamari, 1 leg 1 thigh chicken dinner, and shredded garlic chicken entree. The food was rather disappointing - calamari was over salted, and both the chicken mains were on the bland side given we were expecting a punch of Chinese flavors. Perhaps it’s just not for my taste. The ambience is nice though - compact, cozy, and laidback. The bar seating especially looked fun.

Google
Super friendly owners/staff and amazing food! The size of the wings was impressive, the calamari seemed unending, the sticky fried rice had an abundance of flavor and ingredients, and the pea vine was really tender! The taste of their aromatic house tea really came through in the mandarin breeze cocktail. Oh, and they also have a dangerously yummy lemon drop shot that is a must try! We’ll be back soon for sure, thank you Gan Bei for making it such a wonderful and memorable experience =)

The food here is great! I like everything I ordered! They have a digital full menu which is not a lot of options but enough for me to choose things I want. They made the food after ordering so it is fresh and hot, but take a bit of time. The surroundings there is cozy and friendly, very small place but decorated well. Great place for after work gatherings. Street parking available around.

Google
It's a dive bar with great service and amazing food. The flavors reminded me of Singapore. Their xo green beans were straight up delicious. I loved the chow fan. Even the fried chicken was great.

Google
Came after living 2 blocks down. My wife and I tried the popcorn chicken and it was delicious. Super crispy with a sweet tangy after taste. The cocktails were really good. We had beef chow fun and bacon kimmichi fried rice. The rice was my favorite, the chow fun was very good. Prices were okay, definitely a friday date night or drinks with some friends, but overall, id come back again.

Google
First time here and everything we had was great!! The hype on the wings was very real ( my only wish was that they were a touch spicier), the fried rice was very simple but executed perfectly! It was so pillowy and flavorful that it definitely got up there on my "best of" rankings for the city, my stand out though was the XO rice rolls perfect chew/spice level/ flavor I don't know if it's because I've never had that dish before but it definitely blew me away!! Had the yuzu honey highball and the mandarin breeze ( I think that's what they were called) and they were both flavorful and well balanced. Staff was very friendly too and the place itself has a funky vibe to it that I could see myself coming back to, in fact if I lived any closer I'd probably be a regular here!

Yelp
I was really happy to hear that this place was able to bring back a bigger kitchen menu, so I looked forward to going back on a Friday night at around 7pm here. Most seats were filled, so my friend and I took bar seating, where we were served very quickly by everyone there. It's small and intimate inside, with several tables at the front, a bar in the middle and some more seating in the back where the kitchen is also near. I got the traditional claypot, which comes with Chinese sausages, pork belly and greens. As stated on their menu, it takes about 20-30 minutes to make. This rice pot was pretty much everything I liked, especially the burnt and hard rice crisps that come with most claypots served in other Chinatown restaurants, and the meats were perfectly seasoned. I would probably want more options for meats like pork spare ribs with black beans, or even salted fish. But looking at just the dish itself, it was amazing. The place isn't exactly on as big of a menu as before but I was very satisfied with what I got for the day! There are dishes for the day for each day that they are open, which is placed near bar seating, so be on the lookout for those. As of this writing, the dish of the day was the dry beef chow fun, and it was ordered quite a lot when I was inside.

Yelp
Visited Gan Bei on a Saturday night at a friend's recommendation. Initially, I was skeptical due to the non-traditional menu, but I'm glad I gave it a try! Food: We ordered jalapeño chicken wings, orange chicken, and chow fun. The creative twist on traditional dishes was impressive! As someone from Hong Kong raised on Cantonese food, I was pleasantly surprised by the flavors. (trust me when I say that!) They rotate their menus so you will try different creations each time you visit. Wait time: It's a small, intimate spot, and we were lucky to get a seat at the bar. Be prepared for a wait during peak hours though. Interior: Dimly lit with a subtle Chinese vibe, creating a cozy atmosphere. Overall, I had an enjoyable time at Gan Bei and can't wait to return again!

Yelp
Classic Cantonese style dishes but with an edgy spin -- complete with a full bar, karaoke Thursdays, and fantastic neighborhood energy & community. Ganbei is one of my favorites for dinner and drinks and mingling with friends. Some standout items include the jalapeño chicken wings, fresh water eel clay pot rice, and roasted garlic smelts. I also hear great things about their chicken & gravy but somehow still haven't been able to get my hands on them. Go for the comfort dishes, stay for the vibes!

Yelp
Small mom and pop restaurant with wonderful, homestyle Chinese food. The first thing you'll notice when you step inside is that there are a lot of regulars here. It's a chill community spot, plus they have karaoke every Thursday night. I recommend these dishes: * Clay pot rice - usually a 20 min wait but so worth it * Chicken and gravy - crispy and delicious * Hong Kong milk tea * Money's chili crisp - you can also request it on the side with your meal or you can buy a jar! My favorite locally made chili crisp.

Yelp
We ordered the eel claypot, xo green beans, and brisket and daikon. The rice at the bottom of the claypot was more than just crispy, it was burnt and inedible :/ The brisket was too salty and the green beans, we couldn't really taste the key ingredients of what makes something "xo" Overall disappointed with the food but the vibe was cool, lots of folks here ahead of the sounders game -- so maybe more of a drinks place.

Yelp
This place is honestly one of my favorites in Seattle - the food is really good and this place gives super cute ex-pat bar in HK vibes. My friends have always been impressed by the drinks and food - they have different specials on the menu they'll highlight, too! The only thing is that sometimes the chef isn't there, so the menu options are super limited. Other than that, everything I've gotten here has been really good except for the fact that some of the dishes (like the shredded chicken) is exceptionally salty. So be aware! Our favorites have been: 1) Eel clay pot (soooo good) 2) Shredded chicken (super salty though 3) Rice rolls (off the menu but so yummy) 4) Calamari (breading is so good and salty/peppery) We weren't a huge fan of the chicken but it is one of their most popular items so I think it's worth a try.

Yelp
After living here for 7 years, I stumbled upon Gan Bei after seeing it on @acooknamedmatt's instagram page. I've always labeled seattle as a sleeper town when it comes to food but my first experience at Gan Bei changed my mind completely. You walk into their dimly lit restaurant with quirky decorations and a narrow entrance to what may appear to most as a dive bar. Take a look around and you'll find happy customers engaged in their own conversations or singing karaoke with tables full of steaming Chinese dishes. Their menu is an assortment of classic Chinese fare most people have had one time or another such as orange chicken, won ton soup, mapo tofu, clay pot rice, and noodles. So you're probably wondering, why is Gan Bei any different from the numerous other Chinese restaurants in the vicinity? It's all about the quality and flavor of their food. My boyfriend who is Chinese and grew up eating Chinese food his entire life was even blown away when I took him here. For example, they have sticky fried rice that's made fresh and has the perfect sauce combination, without needing an excess amount of MSG. The chicken wings with gravy here are one of their star dishes - a classic twist on southern fried chicken but with Asian flavors. And to cut through all of the greasy fried food, you have to order their lemon hand-shredded chicken. Think hainanese chicken with a strong acidic lemon flavor on top of a bed of fresh shredded cabbage that pairs perfectly with the rest of their offerings. Their mapo tofu isn't too spicy or too oily, but you know it isn't made with the store-bought packets that most Chinese restaurants use. The cherry on top is their level of service and hospitality. Money, the young woman who is always working, is the magician behind most of these dishes. Money and her staff are kind and attentive while they work tirelessly to keep the good vibes going. I'm so grateful to have found this hidden gem in Seattle. This is officially my go to restaurant when friends come to visit! Come by for top tier Chinese food and delicious drinks too!

Yelp
Finally had a chance to check this place out after an event in CID across the street. My friend said the fried sticky rice was one her favorite dishes. She was spot on and I trust her taste any. We were going to get the Chinese Broccoli with garlic but they were out but that's ok cause cause we went with the ong choy garlic instead and it didn't disappoint. I give the server props for keeping up with how busy it was for a Thursday evening the place was pretty packed at 8pm. I'm not usually in CID this late it was nice to try a place I haven't had a chance to cause of the later hours. Definitely a fun atmosphere this evening since it was Karaoke night. Definitely will be back to try more dished next time. They have a daily special list make sure and check it out.

Yelp
We drove up on a whim after our flight just landed. Thai crispy wings are a major hit! They were nice and hot and STILL very crispy after like 10-15 minutes we got them. Very impressive. What's not impressive is the cultural appropriation for a bunch of white dudes running an Asian-themed dive bar with equally cultural appropriated names.

Yelp
Gan Bei was ok. I headed to yelp for a fun dinner spot in the ID. I don't eat out in Seattle much anymore, but this place is so hipster it hurts. Tiny place with a handful of tables and some bar seating. The food was a mixed bag. The fried chicken was great. The dumplings were great. I got a fried rice that was just kind of bland and over cooked. Drinks were good. Not trying to slam the place, maybe we are the wrong demographic in our mid 30s? Fried rice seems pretty hard to screw up, but this was just above Panda Express and not even in the same ballpark as the other food we ordered.

Yelp
Quick eats here. As for expectations, it is a small venue and a very chill vibe. Our waiter Derek was awesome! He recommended some dishes and they were delicious. Too many good things on the menu so we will have to come back and try more dishes in the future!

Yelp
My friends and I have been here a few times for their gravy chaser, so I'm writing a review for folks who are looking for a unique drink experience! Gan Bei makes their gravy in house, so grab a seat at the bar, chat with the bartender, and order a whiskey and chase it with their gravy. It's been a solid pitstop for us before getting dimsum in the International District. I tried their fried chicken and it was okay. Crisp outside and moist inside, but the seasoning was lacking for me.

Zafina A.

Yelp
I took food to go from here (Garlic Sesame hand shredded chicken). It had a nice flavor but extremely salty, all the rice could not reduce the taste of the saltiness. The dish would have been great otherwise.

Lauren H.

Yelp
all the food was so good, chili oil won tons were amazing, ambience was great. will be coming back!

Chris F.

Yelp
My partner and I had a great time here and we'll be back. Despite how busy they were, the service was great. They checked up on us regularly. There was a wait but we didn't feel ignored or like us being there was a bother. Even the regulars checked in on us and made sure we were ok. We ordered the roasted garlic smelts, garlic jalapeño crinkle fries, orange chicken, and rice. Portions were huge and the food was both tasty and homey. Prices were reasonable and we definitely left full and with leftovers. It's a bar and it does get loud especially with the karaoke. The energy is great though with the servers/bartenders joining in as well. I felt like I was eating at an aunts place who's known for entertaining and being welcoming of people coming and going as they please. Bonus: It's great people watching especially if you can speak Cantonese.

Yelp
I came to Gan Bei on a whim since I was craving Asian food. Parking was fairly easy, and the place wasn't too crowded so it was pretty easy to get a seat. They had both tables and bar seating. The bartender was chatting pleasantly with the customers. For customers who didn't feel as social, they were playing a movie up on the TV which was nice! I ended up sitting at the bar and ordered the daikon beef brisket. After getting my food, I was a bit unpleasantly surprised that the dish didn't come with rice! What kind of asian food doesn't include rice? To my surprise, though, on my request, the bartender actually offered to get me a bowl of rice to eat my brisket with, for free! The daikon was super flavorful and juicy, and left me wanting more. The brisket was also really flavorful. Overall, I really liked coming here and will definitely be back again!

Yelp
I came here for dinner on a Sunday night and it was pretty empty, which is a huge surprise given how good the food was. The name of the place means "Cheers" in Chinese, so we ordered their Mandarin cocktail, which was delicious and my friend's "new favorite cocktail in Seattle". We ordered the Traditional Claypot, Taishan Delight, and Egg Gravy Beef Chow Fun. The claypot and Taishan delight were my favorite and were simply great comfort food dishes made just right. The beef in the chow fun was great, but I think I would stick with the regular one without egg gravy. Tip - it takes 20-30 min to get the claypot, so we ordered the claypot immediately after sitting down before deciding the rest of our order.

Yelp
Even though it says happy hour every day... it's not. Came here on a Saturday looking forward to happy hour. It was the main reason we came, but only to be told the menu was worded wrong and there was no happy hour on the weekends. That's pretty deceiving. Needs to be updated. The food was okay. Ordered the popcorn chicken with plum and it was way too sweet. Also ordered the wonton noodles and asked for a spoon but did not receive it.

Yelp
Came to eat here before the Ed Sheeran concert because we were craving Asian food. We were expecting a restaurant, but it has more of a dive bar feel - intimate, casual, lively, fun. The social atmosphere was exhilarating. The won ton soup was to die for. So much flavor yet so simple. Delicious fried rice. Unfortunately, they had a modified menu because they were also participating in the block party. We will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu.

Yelp
I'd defect to the Darkside just to eat these wings. Best fried chicken I've ever had. Lightly fried, super crispy, super juicy and tender inside, with perfect amount of seasoning/salt. The "Real Orange Chicken" was made with OJ and actually had orange peels cooked to perfection. Never had it prepared this way before but I'd go back for a lot more. I can never go back to eating the orange chicken you see in food courts at malls. There was karaoke happening with a lot of local community members which gave it an awesome vybe. The bartender Derrick was cool as heck and hospitable. And for $40 I had 2 delicious Chinese beers, white rice, and 2 delicious chicken meals. HIGHLY recommend Gan Bei!

Yelp
Service was poor establishment was dirty bartender is rude AF I wouldn't recommend this place, food was decent. Cheap dive bar.

Yelp
My best friend really wanted to go here after we had a lovely day out, and I was pretty excited because I'd never been in before. First of all, the drink I had was amazing (the Mandarin Breeze). Second, the place is cozy, warm, homey, and wonderful. I really, really like it there. When I looked at the menu, I was a little worried since I'm vegetarian (and regrettably, a spicy food wimp), but I asked if it might be possible to make the fried noodles without meat. I normally don't really like to do this because I worry that it puts the chef out, so I was bracing myself for the no....but this was not the case! Our wonderful server said yes and asked if I were vegetarian, and when the dish came out, I was blown away!! The chef went all out! There were veggies and tofu, and the noodles were AMAZING!! I cannot recommend Gan Bei enough. Most meatless requests would have meant that it would have been just the fried noodles, which honestly would have already been awesome, but Gan Bei went so far above and beyond that I'm actually sitting down to write this really long review, hahaha. We also ordered the pea vines, which were excellent; the shredded chicken, which my friend said was superb, and a few other dishes that had meat that also got pretty rave reviews from my friend :) I highly recommend the Mandarin Breeze; it was delightful. Seriously, our server was freaking awesome, the food was amazing, and the drinks were wonderful....and the fish in the fishtank are really cute! Hahaha, go here.

Yelp
Need booster unless you're ok sitting by the door which they keep open (even when my friend had her vaccine less than 6 months-- the time frame when a booster isn't recommended). It was quite cold with the breeze. Fried Chicken: it was very crispy BUT there was lots of blood when we cut into it.... so much so that the plate was filled red. The waitress assured us that everything was cooked and graciously removed from the bill since we really didn't feel comfortably eating it Claypot: very minimal and took a bit of time to cook. (3/5) Be careful of the menu item price vs what is listed on the receipt as there was a price change which we were not told about. The waitress explained that food costs have been rising and though I understand that,, I wouldn't have added the duck if I knew it was going to be double the price..... she then said "I guess I can update that for you, if you want" with no apologies or anything... which made the situation a bit more awkward.... All in all, the service was ok and the drinks were good. Would be open to trying again but the first experience was a little disappointing.

Yelp
Went here with some friends after a late flight and had a quick, cozy meal! Since we came a little over an hour before closing, there was a slightly awkward feeling of trying to rush our order and eat as fast as we could, but we ordered the mapo tofu, the sticky rice special, and some chili oil dumplings. All of it was delicious (great recs from our server). It really is the small hole in the wall places that have the best food in the international district, and I would definitely come back again when I have more time for dinner :)
google avatar

Yelp
A place that's 21 and over ! Yes please ! Went with my friend, we literally ate all our dishes ! All I know was the wings was crispy and I wanted more. We had came during the time they open sooo we got the food but definitely a little wait. We were a bit hangry people, the drinks thankfully was delicious enough to help forget I order anything.
google avatar

James N.

Yelp
The service was gruff and rude. Had to wait almost ten minutes just be acknowledged before finally the bartender pointed to an open table. Food was overpriced and not that good. The wings were $15 after tax for 5 low quality chicken wings. The flavor was ok but certainly not worth nearly $3 a wing. Server never refilled my water. Loud environment in not a very nice area of town, street parking only. I will not be back and do not recommend.

Yelp
This review does not address drinks. This is a 21+ only bar and food place that isn't at all obvious they have a strong food focus until I read about it via social media. The inside is very small; the bar takes up most of the place. Then there are several tables that seat no more than 4 people each. I knew the clay pot dishes take 25 to 30 minutes so I called ahead before leaving the house (I live 20 minutes away). I arrived at the store at 35 minutes. It wasn't ready yet, and we waited another 5 minutes. I was surprised when the waitress told me they were slammed resulting in the delay. Good for them! I was surprised, because it's 4:15pm on Sunday. We had one annoying mistake with one dish (see below), but otherwise, the ordering and pickup process was largely smooth. Food: XO Sauce Rice Roll - 5 Stars! This was a very pleasant surprise. Perfectly seared. An excellent mildly spicy kick from the XO sauce, bits of green onions, dry shrimps, and more make this my favorite dish amongst the 4. Freshwater clay pot eel rice - 3 Stars This is the star of their menu of Taishanese cuisine. I don't know if my nose is sensitive, but I smell the fishiness. I shouldn't smell fishiness. I'm so annoyed I can smell it. The taste was fine and didn't scream anything particularly special. The smell ruined it for me. Sticky Fried Rice - 3.5 Stars If there is one thing that I must give credit to Gan Bei, everything is very finely chopped. I just wonder if someone in the back is going nuts with a giant cleaver chopping away at everything in every dish. This one is no different. The tiny bits of pork, green onions, onions are so busy. I prefer this one over the eel rice, but I thought the rice kernels were still a bit too hard. Enoki Soft Tofu Combo - 2 Stars I asked for no meat. She said no problem, this is a seafood only dish. I'm looking at the menu, and it reads it has pork. She says no, no, it's seafood only. When I'm picking up the box, she pats the box, points at the receipt, and says no meat. Great. Come home, open the box, and there is meat everywhere. There are more than one kind of meat! Doh. That's a pretty annoyingly big mistake. The balance of carrots and peas is odd, too. There are better places to get this dish.

Yelp
Criminally delicious fried chicken and gravy. Started with a wonton soup with the most delicious broth and plenty of wontons. The chicken was a leg and a thigh and the portion was enormous. The gravy had a 5 spice essence and was wonderful. I'm headed back to try more. With 2 beers, tab was $31 - I could've split the portion and still been satiated.

Yelp
A cozy, intimate bar in the International District with upbeat servers and bartenders. The space is rather small, if you come with a group of 15 like we did to celebrate a farewell party; be prepared to stand in the tiny back room, hallway, and by the bar area. Definitely more a type of bar you come with a party of 2-3 people max! Upon entering, I was surprised by the amount of people that were there not only drinking cocktails but actually eating dishes (ranging from fried rice and chicken wings). There is a house menu of Asian inspired cocktails and drinks and a full bar for mixed drinks for your heart's desire. The reason why this bar gets only a 3 rather than a 4 is the shocking lack of knowledge of the bartenders! We asked for a few basic drinks and shots and the bartender not only had no idea how to make them, but had to spend time googling the recipe, and then making a cocktail that didn't exactly taste right. One of the shots we ordered was a lemon drop and it was this weird concoction of just lemon juice and some form of alcohol I wasn't sure was vodka. A cute place to grab a drink after eating a gut busting meal in the International District but expect to order from the list of cocktails they have limited on the menu.

Yelp
This place was just okay. They turned away one person in our group who brought his son with him because apparently the entire place is a bar even though we were seated at the big table in the back. I got the lemon shredded chicken salad with spicy chili oil. It was not spicy at all and so incredibly salty. But saltier than that was the bartenders attitude. We came to celebrate a birthday with a group of 10. Everyone ordered food and drinks. Bartender was a little gruff the whole time. The bill came and they brought one bill which is fine, I get it, it's a large group. People put down cash and then we put the rest on one card. After we paid we all stood outside to chat for a bit before parting ways. The bartender came outside and interrupted our group to lecture us on how if we pay with a card and tip from the card they get less of the tip. It was super condescending and inappropriate to interrupt our group after we paid to scold us for how we decided to tip. The birthday guy then gave him more cash as a tip to placate him and the bartender took it turned around and left without saying thank you. WTF dude...I will absolutely never return nor recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
Service is always on point. Reasonable pricing. I love love their egg fried rice and garlic Chinese broccoli. And karaoke Thursdays are lit!

Yelp
Came by on a Saturday afternoon while a street food festival was going on right outside their restaurant. So, we were the only ones in there and had their full attention, which was fantastic! We were greeted immediately by a super sweet server when we walked in. We sat down and looked over their menu. Everything looked pretty tasty but only had room for so many dishes. So, we had to make some hard decisions. When the server came back, we decided on the sticky fried rice, pan fried shrimp rolls, jalapeno garlic fried chicken wings and stir fry enoki with egg tofu. The chicken wings came out 1st and it was piping hot! Like, the kind of hot where you have to suck in air while the tiny piece of chicken is playing hot potato in your mouth. The skin was super crispy and the meat was still juicy. Perfectly fried, not overcooked. 5 stars. Next came the fried sticky rice. It had eggs and diced up chinese sausage. The rice was cooked perfectly, not too dry nor too slimy. It had the wok flavor that I always look for. I would order this again. 5 stars. Next came the stir fry enoki with egg tofu. The dish looked great initially but then, we noticed there werent any enoki. Without it, the dish was still flavorful and tasty. However, you cant really serve a dish without one of the main ingredient in the title. So, 4 stars bc it was missing the enoki. Lastly, the pan fried shrimp roll. It was okay. There werent many shrimps at all. Also, mainly bc the roll was pressed and pan fried, it was somewhat dense and doughy. It wasnt bad but just, meh. Most likely wouldn't order this again. 3 stars. After all of our dishes were served, while we were still eating, the sweet server came back with a steamed minced pork & chives roll for us to sample. That roll tasted a lot better than the pan fried one. I would recommend this! Service - 5 stars Food - 4 stars Cleanliness - 5 stars

Yelp
I came here during happy hour to check it out. It was a Friday evening and I was able to get seated right away for 2 people. The place is small with 3-4 tables in the front and there were a few tables in the back behind the bar. The bar also had a few seats as well. They had $5 well drinks for happy hour. My boyfriend and I ordered the jalapeno fried chicken wings, the sticky fried rice and the pan fried noodle roll with dried shrimp. We enjoyed every dish! Our absolute favorite is their sticky fried rice. I was pleasantly surprised with this dish. I like fried rice but this dish made me love it. The portion was generous, the flavors were there, it wasn't too oily and had big chunks of eggs, mushrooms, Chinese sausages, etc. I can definitely see myself craving this dish again. Overall service was great. Our server checked up on us a couple of times. The prices were pretty good too.

Yelp
*** This is a bar & eatery so they only allow 21+ *** TLDR: food 2/5, service 5/5, vibes 4/5, price 4/5. We came here for an early dinner on Saturday. The restaurant signboard was dark so it wasn't easy to be found. Google Map was very helpful. Very few people in the restaurant so we got seated right away. We got carded even though we didn't order any drinks, as they only serve 21+. We ordered one Roasted Garlic Hand Shredded Chicken手撕鸡 recommended by the staff, one House Stir Fry w/ Enoki Mushroom & Egg Tofu 玉子豆腐煲, and one appetizer - Garlic Onion Jalapeño Fried Tofu 椒盐豆腐 (also recommended by the staff). The Stir Fry w/ Egg Tofu was really good. Bonus point that they managed to take out the seafood and make it vegetarian. It contained lost of sauce so I imagine it would go well with rice. The only surprise was - I thought it would be served in a clay pot, as most egg tofu pots are, but it was served in a plate. I guess that was indicated by its English name. The Roasted Garlic Hand Shredded Chicken, unfortunately, was very disappointing. The staff described it as "very garlicky" and said it was her absolute favorite. Yes, it was very garlicky and I really enjoyed 30% of my bites of it (so if you don't like garlic, avoid this dish). However, the other 70% was awfully SALTY. I'm not even exaggerating - every other bite, I had to stop to spit out the chunky sea salt granule on the chicken. I somehow managed to finish the chicken (I don't even know how/why), but drank 2+ bottles of water. Towards the end, the heavy salt made the chicken taste bitter... I don't like wasting food, so imagine how happy I was when I finally finished the chicken... the process wasn't enjoyable at all. The Jalapeño Fried Tofu, on the other hand, was flavorless. It's called Garlic Onion Jalapeño Fried Tofu, but I could only taste the tofu, which was bland. No flavor of salt, spiciness, garlic, or onion. It's on the other extreme of the hand shredded chicken. We didn't finish it so brought it home. I had to add extra chili powder and salt to finish it. Price was quite reasonable, but I'm traumatized by the sea salt granule so probably won't return.

Yelp
Sodium overload. My friends and I came here for lunch, as the menu features Asian comfort food and cocktails. Located in the International District, Gan Bei is a small space that gets crowded during peak hours. Service was a little spotty, with one server our entire time here. And a lot of the menu items were crossed off or unavailable. But the food seemed to be too salty, more than anything else, which was the real disappointment. We shared the Garlic Wings and I ordered the Mapo Tofu dish and a One Night in Bangkok cocktail. Items came out as they were ready, with the cocktail being first. If you like Thai Iced Teas, you will like the One Night in Bangkok cocktail. The name drew me in, but the ingredients of Thai iced tea, rum and coconut are what made this refreshing. Loved the coconut flavor! The Garlic Wings were better than my entree. Lots of garlic and some spice with the chopped green pepper topping made these garlic wings addicting. Crunchy and juicy all at the same time! The Mapo Tofu dish would've been yummy had it been wayyy less salty. The tofu with minced beef and sauce were all on point; but again, the overwhelmingly salty flavor took away from the tofu and beef, which were the real stars of this dish. Overall, Gan Bei has a lot to offer, but lay off on the salt and let the ingredients of the dishes speak for themselves. I imagine Gan Bei being a popular spot for post-drinks, with its comfort food items of rice dishes with thick and heavy sauces and noods in soups. Sounds like I gotta come back in the wee hours of the night. Plus, they have cocktails, just in case the evening continues on.

Yelp
So, so, so, good! My group and I were visiting from California and we literally stumbled upon this place by accident. Their "BAR" neon sign was what caught our attention and their food was why we stayed.... for over 5 hours! They have a great selection of beer & liquor. However, their food.... is to die for! Everything was so delicious. I wished I took photos of the dishes that we ordered- but please try their Pompano Fish, Garlic Soy Chicken, and XO string beans! I promise, everything on the menu is so delicious. Thank you for showing us a great time!

Yelp
Came by for lunch with a friend around 11:45am or so, it wasn't busy so we were able to get a table very fast. Forgot what this place used to be but it's a little renovated with some new decor and a updated look. They do have a lunch menu so that's always good. We don't have cooties, so we decided to get a few things and share with each other. We ordered the 3 Mushroom Rice Roll, that was pretty good, seemed like they made it to order as it came out super hot. Good amount of mushrooms and very tasty! My friend ordered a dish off the lunch menu and she got the Ma Po Tofu w/ spicy Beef over rice. It was good as well and had a good amount of spice, freshly cooked and served real hot off the wok. Good version of this dish. Lastly, we ordered the Chicken Congee, it came out hot as hell, super hot (as in temperature), good amount of chicken and comforting bowl of hot goodness in my tummy. All portions were pretty big and we were super full and actually couldn't finish everything. Prices are pretty good. The food was good but the service was slow. Only one gal working the entire room, it took a while to get our food, and they came out all at separate times with big gaps of time in between each dish coming out. Usually we can finish lunch in about 45 mins and can get back to work within an hour, but we were there for about 75 mins, but we had some luck in the transit tunnel so that helped me sneak back to my desk before anyone really noticed or for me to use one of my world class excuses.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place and glad we did. It's more of bar setting with a couple of tables that served food. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We ordered some garlic jalapeño wings and pan fried rice roll as a late night snack. Food came out quickly, and the wings were steaming hot being freshly fried and coated with the garlic and jalapeños was just delicious. I could have downed another order of 6 wings easily. The pan fried rice roll was a great texture of crispy outside and soft, chewy inside. It's more unique than your standard steam rice rolls. There were other items on the menu like soups and rice dishes that sounded good too. Just will have to make it back some other time.

Yelp
I came here craving congee and following my Yelp nose....Canton Noodles was closed for some reason. Gan Bei is a curious place - it comes off as a dive bar. Sunday night was quiet with what appeared to be owners and their friends just hanging out. Seemed like a friendly atmosphere. The abalone congee was generous and delicious. Maybe this is an Asian Burgundian...trying to figure out what this business wants to be. But I will look to stop by here on future stops through the ID.

Yelp
Game day and heading to the stadium or ballpark or even just a random evening out in international district? Then head on over to this spot to grab a drink and some food to share with friends! It's a small spot and fills up quick, so if you're looking to pre game or after game this is the spot. Parking as you know is tough on those type days so just hope on the link rail and get off at international district/ Chinatown stop and you're just a short walk away. Food is good, drinks are good, and the vibe check is just right for these type days! Oh yes, it's Asian flavored food but you know yummy for the tummy for sure :)

Yelp
Great comfort food and even better cocktails! Definitely try one of their clay pots as it's one of the best I've had in my life. My favorite (alcoholic) drink of all time is also made here (Mandarin Breeze). The staff is super friendly and remembers their regulars.

Yelp
I'd call Gan Bei one of Seattle's best kept hidden gems. Although it's technically considered a bar, they serve up some of the best Hong Kong & Cantonese style comfort food I've ever had! I've tried almost every (if not all!) HK style cafe within the Greater Seattle area and Gan Bei definitely takes the cake. We started with the Crispy Dried Shrimp Roll, which was absolutely delicious. I grew up eating cheung fun (wide rice noodles) and was accustomed to the traditional steamed noodles. However, Gan Bei pan fries the noodles to have a crispy exterior. It's served with soy sauce and hoisin sauce for the perfect pairing. For entrees, we chose the Traditional Cured Pork & Chinese Sausage Claypot and Enoki Mushroom & Egg Tofu. The claypots take about 20-30 minutes to prepare, but it's well worth the wait! It's one of my favorite Chinese comfort foods. I'll definitely be back to try some of their other dishes... I hear their wings are a must! They also have a Happy Hour between 5-7 on select appetizers & drinks.

Yelp
Took me 3 tries to come to this place today.. (story time like 3 Bears and Goldie Locks..) here it goes.. 1st try and I blame Yelp or whoever listed 11:15am and when I got there luckily it was 11:24 and I was like why is it so dark as I walked inside their opened door and noticed Ohhhhh.. the hours are 11:30am open.. no wonder cook didn't respond when I said Hello so let me take my healthy but and walk around and come back// 2nd try 11:30am (yeah like knock knock, but I didn't actually knock) like oh great there was nothing really going on in the neighborhood.. lovely, I got back here at 11:28 waiting outside, just 2 minutes.. here comes 11:30am, walk inside, same situation as the cook which I thought was the server did not speak English like that as I said a friendly Hello and if they were open.. so let me take myself to somewhere else.. // 3rd try - how did I end up back here? one place nearby had an OKAY rating Double Ho Restaurant.. 663 looked like they closed their Bistro.. so I glanced and saw Gan Bei turned on their OPEN sign.. oh good walked inside one table is now ahead of me.. that's fine and yes, the waitress/bartender was late to work looked at their menu and 75% of their appetizers are grayed out.. so you only had like 5 or 6 things you can really get and ordered their self-tag famous Freshwater Eel with Chinese Sausage Claypot Rice a.k.a. FLAVORLESS and appetizer Pan Fried Shrimp Rice Rolls a.k.a. UNINTERESTING so FLAVORLESS came in not much flavor but just black pepper with a lite cilantro taste.. even Chinese sausage which was supposed to give anything flavor, did not bring life to this dish.. rice wasn't soft and mushy.. dish texture was more like a flavorless fried rice.. UNINTERESTING was nothing special but just pan fried rice rolls which is interesting at first as I never thought of pan frying rice rolls into a crisp but once you eat it, it was nothing special as I would've preferred regular steamed I've had better p.s. they need more than 1 person to man the floor.. this place was between 2 or 3 stars, but with the waitress/bartender/1 person manning the bar only, she forgot my bill when I asked for it and thus 2 Stars ensued

Yelp
Has a variety of authentic Chinese dishes. My favorite was the fresh eel clay pot rice! It has abundant eel and Chinese sausage and the rice is perfectly cooked. The garlic jalapeños chicken wings were delicious too! The food was a little bit greasy but everything else was good.

Yelp
Food was very good, but it came slow because the cook was not in the kitchen. Small, cozy, and definitely a little aged inside.
