The Best Indian Food in Portland, Beaverton, and Hillsboro | Eater Portland

"Beaverton’s Ganesh is a go-to among the lunch buffet crowd, with a nice range of chutneys and the classics (masalas, kormas, saag paneer, etc.) for less than $20 per person, a growing rarity. The a la carte menu is extensive, including South Indian favorites like dosas and idli, okra-laden bhindi masala, and sticky balls of gulab jamun." - Rebecca Roland

Google
Ganesh Indian Restaurant delivers a solid and satisfying Indian dining experience. The biryani was full of flavor and perfectly spiced — definitely a standout dish. The vegetarian eggplant curry was another hit, with a rich, smoky depth that made it comforting and satisfying even without meat. We also started with the lamb samosas, and they were fantastic — crispy on the outside, packed with well-seasoned lamb on the inside, and served piping hot. A great way to kick off the meal. To top it all off, they had cold Kingfisher beer on the menu, which paired perfectly with the spices and added to the relaxed vibe. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was casual and welcoming. overall, Ganesh is a great go-to for flavorful, authentic Indian food. Will definitely be back!

Google
Absolutely amazing experience at Ganesh Indian Cuisine! The food here is incredibly flavorful and authentic—every bite felt like a celebration of Indian culinary tradition. The dosas were perfectly crisp, the chutneys and sambar were rich and satisfying, and the variety of dishes was just outstanding. From tandoori starters to creamy curries and refreshing sides, everything tasted freshly prepared and full of love. We also tried several desserts like gulab jamun, semiya payasam, and fruit custard—all absolutely delightful. The presentation was neat, the portions generous, and the ambiance warm and welcoming. Special shoutout to the staff for their friendly service and the wonderful dining environment. Whether you’re craving South Indian breakfast, North Indian curries, or classic sweets—this place nails it all. Highly recommended for anyone who loves tasty, soulful Indian food. Will definitely be back! 🙌🇮🇳🍽️

Google
This restaurant offers a no frills buffet lunch option. It is worth the money. There is a selection of meat and veggie curries. The naan was fresh. The sauces were present. The fried items kept their crisp. The service was helpful. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the chai. It was oddly bitter and gritty.

Google
I had faith the food would be good based in the reviews. And I was right. I got Chicken Biryani. It was so flavorful and was so much food for the price. Unbeatable. I think I will cook less often and come here instead. For a single person, you really get your money’s worth. I am floored with how much food I got and how flavorful and high quality it is. God bless this place and I hope they continue to have good business

Google
We tried this place for the first time today and it was the lunch buffet. Service was impeccable. Food was good. The korma was creamy and delicious and chilli chicken was spicy and juicy. The biryani had good flavor and well cooked chicken. The gobhi was also flavorful. The bhaturas were very small, but fluffy, soft and not oily. Fountain drinks are included in the price and they have some interesting options there - RC cola, Squirt lemon soda etc. Gulab jamun was well fried on the outside and soft on the inside. Paired it with kheer and it was a fitting dessert to finish off. My only complaint was with the tandoori chicken - it was stale, dry and smelled weird. The owner promised to look into it and I genuinely believe they will. This place is much more authentic than a lot of other Indian restaurants in the PDX area. Overall I would recommend this place.

Google
Came with my family for the lunch buffet at Ganesh Indian Cuisine in Beaverton absolutely amazing! The dosa was perfectly crispy, and their goat curry is hands down the best in Portland. A must-visit for Indian food lovers!

Google
Amazing, tasty and fresh Indian buffet! Very sweet staff. Cant wait to come back again and bring more people. Definitely recommend to try this spot out.

Google
We stopped here on our way home for dinner just before closing time. We ordered Poori and dum biryani. The Poori was below average, and the biryani was really disappointing and didn’t taste good at all.

Yelp
Excellent Asked for extra spicy and was not disappointed. Everything fresh and hot Wish one was near we live

Yelp
Came in for the weekend lunch buffet. The spread was a wide selection of everything you could want. I was particularly impressed they included fresh naan, mini samosas, a chutney bar, and access to a fountain drink station. On a hot day, it was pleasantly cool inside. As a buffet, everything was pretty mild when I prefer more spiciness. I also wished I could have had some hot chai to pair with my dessert. Overall, I will definitely return to order a-la-carte at my preferred spice level!

Yelp
For a buffet the food is delicious. The place is clean, not the greatest atmosphere a little cafeteria like. But I'm overall very pleased . Staff is friendly and attentive. Lamb Curry is excellent... I mean excellent! The flavors are all different and well balanced. I'm here from out of town and would most defiantly come back.

Yelp
Drop by for their lunch buffet and it's a feast! Many varieties of curries and breads to accompany them were laid out for you to have at. I thought their curries were all very solid with special shoutout to the Dal Curry, Lamb Vi daloo, and Yellow Veggie Curry. Everything packed a punch that creeps up on you so be sure to have the Raita on the side -- super fresh and refreshing. In fact, all their sauces and food used good quality ingredients and were constantly replenished so you'll always get a plate of fresh food. Their meats were very tender as well. The buffet is a great way to try many things. A super casual spot. Lots of friends, families, and regulars come here to get their belly filled. The staffs were super friendly as well.

Yelp
Tried their lunch buffet last Sunday and all the non veg item in their menu was below average. Chili chicken was ok kinda. For veg dishes nothing special but ok. Dosa and idly was not up to mark.

Yelp
Was starving at lunch time on a random Wednesday and craving Indian cuisine, so I came here after reading positive Yelp reviews. It was a small/medium-size buffet that had a variety of options like saag paneer, chicken vindaloo, chicken makhani, and vegetable korma. I wasn't blown away by any of the entrees - they just lacked the flavors that I was hoping for. Ironically, they had some of the best Indian desserts I've ever had - the sugar balls (donuts soaked in honey/sugar?), vanilla pudding with apples, and rice pudding. Their naan bread also was great - a bit salty, which was unusual. The price was $18/person, which was a tad high I thought but I certainly ate my share. Staff were friendly. Ambiance was just ok - I don't recall the decor, but it wasn't memorable. The parking lot had lots of spaces, though it was almost totally full when we got there. So all in all, the experience was just ok and I wouldn't feel compelled to return.

Yelp
Came for lunch buffet, so everything pre-made, but with the buffet sternos being refilled throughout our restaurant stay. We went it, sat wherever we wanted and went straight to fill our plates. Buffet includes soft drinks/hot water. There is naan, white rice, basmati rice, papadam and you can request idly if you want. Typical foods - saag panner (could use more cheese), chicken vindaloo, tikka masala, chicken makhani, veggie dishes, etc. Probably about 10 dishes at least plus a small salad bar and a few dessert options. Food was good, although lacked a little flavor. Get the naan fresh, otherwise gets a bit hard. I wonder if quality/taste would be a little better if order a la carte off the menu for dinner. Buffet was ~ $18 per person. I think a dollar more on weekends. Service was good, staff friendly. Decor was basic. Walls have a map of New York City (don't know what was in this space before). Large parking lot, although pretty full. There is a coffee shop (Sauvie Island Coffee) and 7-Eleven in the same lot.

Yelp
I've loved Indian food my whole life! Both my Dad and Grandma were born in India and made incredible dishes when I was growing up. We usually cook Indian at home but my daughter and I had time to go out together so after a search on Yelp, Ganesh had outstanding reviews so we went there on a Sunday night. We ordered Paneer Tikka Masala and Lamb Saag upgraded to a Thali Dinner. It was the perfect amount of food and delicious. The owner is a force of nature, he was handling phone calls, delivery orders all while doing a good job with attentive service as well! Two tips: they offer a buffet for lunch every day except Tuesday when they are closed. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I have not been to an Indian food buffet in many years. I loved this place when it was Aburuchi. Most of their entrees are priced at $16-$20 so we thought it was a good idea to buy the $18.99 lunch buffet. And it was an excellent deal. We loved the butter chicken, daals, samosa, Naan, and especially the bar with sauces. They offer you a fresh dosa (crepe) that is included with the meal, definitely say yes and you'll get a hot crêpe delivered to your table to dip and wrap your yummy food in. Loved that unlimited soft drinks were included. And to top it off they had my favorite dessert, warm keer rice pudding! Would definitely recommend to anyone. At first the price seems steep but considering all you get, it's actually a phenomenal deal.

Yelp
Food and service are great, we enjoyed the lunch buffet. They did not charge full as my daughter is only 10. It was our first time but seems to be a popular place. Small restaurant but it was nice and clean.

Lisa P.

Yelp
The layout of the restaurant is odd and not very welcoming. Decor is fine, but the music was very loud and was finally turned down. The food was OK. Not many selections. The bread was cold and hard. Employees were very nice and brought water and refills often. When we went to leave, we waited several minutes to pay. It was just OK. I would not go back or recommend it.
google avatar

Beth M.

Yelp
This is one time Yelp let me down. This place was very odd: Oddly cold, oddly empty, and odd people working there who didn't really seem to want to be there. The servers were on their cell phones constantly, and we had to get our own water refills. Not the end of the world... just notable. Tried all the samosas: they were fine, but slightly over cooked on the edges. Garlic nan was fantastic. The tandoori chicken was downright dry. We couldn't finish it. At this point, I noticed the signs indicating that they do a daily lunch buffet. I couldn't help but wonder if what we were eating were re-warmed leftovers. We had a lamb curry and a chicken makhani... neither were exceptional, nor were they bad. All in all, a decent experience, but nothing special.
google avatar

Rheanna A.

Yelp
Great service. The guy who helped us with our order was so friendly and welcoming when we walked in. The food was so good. We tried a bunch of different things and they were all good. We will definitely be back!

Emma J.

Yelp
A weird feeling restaurant. Have been to different Indian restaurants, not one like this the waiter was monitoring you taking food from buffet trays. Yes, they're closely "Watching" you‍.
google avatar

Maria V.

Yelp
The food here is delicious. Lots of options for everyone. They have a wide variety of Indian dishes so it's great for anyone looking to venture. We got the chicken biriyani, chicken kurma, saag paneer, gulab jamun, lamb samosas and other stuff. It was a lot of food and super filling. The service was great everyone was very nice. We went on a Thursday so it was at a nice quiet level of noise. Will definitely be back for their lunch buffer.
google avatar

Sovathana L.

Yelp
Clean restaurant, really friendly staff, and better Indian food than most, and slightly bigger portions than most! I had leftovers for two meals!

Yelp
I loved abhiruchi. I'd venture to say it was my favorite Indian place. I was crestfallen when they moved. The new location I thought had taken a step back from the old location. Buffet wasn't as big, some items weren't there anymore. Just not thrilled. Now I'm told this place is just as good. I don't think it is. Sorry. My favorite dish is the chicken makhani. But now The pieces of chicken are more uniform and I don't think as flavorful. I actually thought mine was not as hot temperature wise as it should have been. I see pictures of samosas but didn't see any on the buffet. I also don't know why chicken is the only protein now. The paneer dish literally had no pieces of paneer in it. I love the free rc products. Takes me back. Now I understand trying to maintain the online presence but there was stuff all over the place from their online orders. Maybe four or five tables were taken by stuff. If I ran a restaurant I'd totally do the same but I'd expect better. I appreciate that they have a buffet. I'm very disappointed in other places not following suit. So thanks for being the only game in town. That earns the four over a three
google avatar

Yelp
Sooo yummy. Plenty of food for a good price. We have leftovers, Bonus!! We can't wait to come back for the lunch buffet! Great service!!
google avatar

Yelp
Really missed Indian buffets since covid so I was happy to find one open on the weekends. There were about 10 hot dishes, including a variety of chicken and veggie dishes. The chicken dishes were really tasty and always my son's favorite. They'll make fresh dosa and bring it to your table, you just have to ask! It's crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The somosas are crispy and plump and small enough to have more than one, they also have a good spice! Their naan is soft and chewy and always fresh. They also have a variety of sauces to accompany the dishes that brightened up the dishes nicely. We will definitely be back again!

Yelp
If you liked Abhiruchi, you will like Ganesh. Everything is the same except the name and the owner. The new owner is very nice and friendly to his customers. Apparently the former owner retired and moved back to India. I visited today to try their lunch buffet. Buffets pretty much disappeared after covid so it's great to see them coming back. Buffet lunch is a great way to try a variety of items and enjoy as much as you like. The downside is that buffet food is made to appeal to the general public so it's usually quite mild. There is a variety of meat items and vegetarian items. Soda is the only beverage included with the buffet. Chai and Lassi are extra right now. I would like to see Chai included as I don't care for soda. My dining companion said the food was not hot enough so maybe they can adjust the heat settings. The lunch buffet is available everyday they're open. The price for weekday lunch buffet is now 17.99 which is still a good deal considering all you get. Ganesh also offers the same large menu of items as Abhiruchi did. If you're searching for some tasty Indian food, give Ganesh a try! If you're new to Indian food, the lunch buffet is a great way to sample various dishes and find your favorites.

Yelp
Was trying to find some food and saw this Indian restaurant so I went ahead and gave it a try. Staff was very nice, I believe the gentleman that took my order and showed me around the buffet was the owner he was very kind and answered my questions. 10/10 go and give them a try. Mango Lassi was delicious. Their lunch buffet starts at 11:30am.

Yelp
My wife and I have been going to Ganesh for dinner every week since last summer and have never been let down by the food or service. The customer service is fantastic, as the owner is always polite and hospitable. Moreover, he'll give you recommendations and is open to altering dishes. For example, we really like bhindi masala when it is fried, but they serve it curry style. We tried it that way once, but asked if it could be made fried on our subsequent visit. He obliged and now every time we order bhinda masala, he remembers that we like it fried. He'll also suggest variations on other dishes, so it keeps things interesting even if you visit every week. I've never had a bad experience here and have never seen any staff spending time on their cell phones. And on the occasions when the restaurant is empty, they're usually getting plenty of online orders, as it seems people want everything to go these days rather than dining in.

Sophie F.

Yelp
The food is okay. HORRIBLE service. The greeter did not even say hi, just gestured to a table and grunted. He gave us water once we sat down, but we were had finished it, we waited for about 15 minutes before anyone refilled it. I think $17 each is kind of ridiculous, especially because the food is just alright.

Hope M.

Yelp
Awful. Terrible food and horrible service. The people running this place was so rude I would never go there again.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Solid food with a nice selection of veggie and chicken dishes, apps, soups, desserts, breads and chutneys. One of the few if only buffets in the area. This is my go to when I'm craving Indian. Go hungry.
google avatar

Bruce W.

Yelp
We tried this cuisine out in a strip mall for lunch. It's a smaller buffet than Namaste or Abhiruchi but still has good entries. The gentleman on the floor was friendly & attentive. It's a good place to sample Indian food.
google avatar

Shane W.

Yelp
We went for the lunch buffet on a Saturday around noon. The restaurant was around half filled. So, it was not empty, but we didn't need to queue for the food at all. The staff here were very friendly and helpful, but we found the buffet food a little mixed. The vegetable and paneer dishes were definitely tasty, and there was a great mix to try. We also enjoyed the variety of sauces on offer. The chicken dishes, however, we found to be below par. We don't have huge expectations for buffet chicken, but we thought these were overcooked and lacking in flavor. The three desserts they had were tasty, especially the rice pudding.
google avatar

Yelp
It was a called Abbaruchi (?), but now has new owners. They've been open for 7 months (early 2023). Forgot to take pics of our food : ( We ordered dosa, lamb vindaloo, shrimp dish, chicken Makhani ( butter chicken) and pakoras. The shrimp arrived sizzling and had a good amount of both shrimp and vegetables. It was tasty with good flavor. We ordered the chicken and vindaloo medium spicy but tasted mild. If the two, I'd get the vindaloo. The dosa was big as they come, it's a sure thing. Pakoras also came hot. It's great when you can eat it right away instead of take out or delivery. If you've never tried Indian food before, try their lunch buffet. The place is clean, friendly and has good seating. Parking is easy. Restaurant is located next to Cafe Yumm, can't miss it.
google avatar

Mark A.

Yelp
The lunch buffet is awesome! There are two buffets in the area, this place, and Chettinad, and I think we actually prefer Ganesh slightly. Chettinad is very good, but their buffet is only open weekends, and they don't include soft drinks like Ganesh does. But on top of that, I think the Ganesh food is actually slightly better. Chettinad might have more of a selection, but I prefer the food at Ganesh. On top of that, the workers/staff are extremely nice. I haven't tried their non-buffet dishes, but I would imagine they're just as good, since the food at the buffet is basically the same food they serve during their non-buffet hours. I'm actually going to be moving to this area in a couple weeks, so I'll probably be visiting this place way more often and getting even fatter as a result. :(

Kaye M.

Yelp
First time trying it, staff was very nice and helpful to figure out how to order. The food was amazing, I had the Chicken Masala Ala cart. Chicken in a redish onion sauce with a side of rice and Naan bread. The Indian beer was delicious as well. I recommend this place to everyone and anyone.
google avatar

Jenny P.

Yelp
We finally was able to dine here (instead of getting take out) and we are so glad we did because they have buffet for lunch and we came out happily full! The owner checked on us frequently and the place started to get busy quick. Area is clean and utensils abound. Will definitely return!
google avatar

Maya H.

Yelp
the masala dosa was excellent! the paneer tika masala was just okay, way too bland for me. the eggplant curry was good. I would recommend it for anyone extremely sensitive to spice. The service was excellent and the portions were huge. in sum, definitely try this place.

Mallory K.

Yelp
Chicken makhani is my family's favorite dish from this restaurant. My husband loves the side curries that come with your food if you order it as a meal, but they are a little too spicy for me but I'm a major wimp when it comes to spice.
google avatar

Mariko K.

Yelp
I'm happy to report that the change in name and management has not affected the quality of food. Everything is still delicious so it's still my favorite Indian restaurant.

Thomas D.

Yelp
Sad. I had held out hope that the unfortunate coincidence of Covid and a change in ownership would eventually settle down get back to the solid lunch buffet that the location could always deliver. Sad
google avatar

Lanelle K.

Yelp
Indian buffet! Delicious food, real chai, many gluten free and vegan options. Plenty of options for non-vegan as well
google avatar

Carl G.

Yelp
The most bland tasting Indian food I have ever had. The Indian culture is known for their exotic flavors infused into their food. This food had no flavor to speak of. I should have known better when I saw no actual Indian people in the restaurant eating the food. Wasted my time I will never get back visiting this establishment. My Indian wife would agree, this food lacks flavor and is Indian cuisine by name only. Hire a chef who knows how to cook Indian food. If I could give this place zero stars I would.

Brad W.

Yelp
Every clean and the stuff is friendly. Some great flavors to choose from. I'm more of a Chinese flavor person but I've never been disappointed with this spot.

Kenton W.

Yelp
Chicken makhani taste like it is made with Campbell's soup. Food is very mediocre if you're a lover of authentic Indian food. Hadn't had Indian for quite a while but this did not scratch the itch.
google avatar

Michele A.

Yelp
The best Indian food in the Beaverton! Lots of vegetarian options. The staff was all very nice as well.

Susan P.

Yelp
Excellent service and food! We will be back! Came for dinner, and hope to try the lunch buffet. Very nice people. Also loved the spiced chai.

Lisa N.

Yelp
The lunch buffet is wonderful. The food is great. The staff is so nice. My new favorite place. Dinner is also top notch

Kailyn M.

Yelp
Food qas amazing, service was equally good, answered all my questions and had good recommendations. The ambiance of the place qas calming and relaxing. Highly recommend to anyone who loves good food and good people!

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Loved this place. The eggplant curry was very flavorful and the dosa are excellent. All of the side dishes in the thali had a lot of flavor, even if the mango yogurt-type dessert item was a little thin. Prices are excellent, service is very friendly, and portions are large. Water tasted a little metallic, so just have a beer. :)
google avatar

Veronica C.

Yelp
I've been searching for an Indian buffet for quite a bit since everything shut down in 2020 and oh my goodness I'm so happy to have found this spot! I made it for their thali dinner today and everything was amazing! The chicken makhani was a table favorite, it was so flavorful. The dal was beautifully earthy and seasoned perfectly. Don't skip the raita either, it's tasty, refreshing, and so soothing in the belly when eating so many spices. The service was on point, the owner was kind and is on top of it! Everything was great, will definitely be back for their lunch buffet.
google avatar

Fishio B.

Yelp
No thanks. Poor Indian choice for enjoyable flavors compared to other superior places. Look elsewhere like Swagat or Chettinad

Keith P.

Yelp
New ownership. Very friendly. Nice revamp. Good very tasty. No complaints. Will be coming many times more.

darin t.

Yelp
Have not been here since the old location move. Went today for dinner (in the past we've done the buffet). Food was great! Wasn't 100% sure what I ordered (and what I ordered offered a lot of variety). I do remember it was the Thali option. There were sweet and spicy options and somewhere in between. It was clean and quiet and great departure from our usual date night meals. Wait staff was by himself, but it wasn't a problem because there were only a few of us in there. Very nice, friendly and attentive service. We got a 15% off coupon for a future meal! People, if you like good Indian food, check out Ganesh! Support our local businesses /restaurants!

JessEm B.

Yelp
Amazing service and the food was really good as well! Ordered the chicken masala and the chicken tiki masala and both were delicious. will be coming back !
