Chicago’s Best Fish and Chips | Eater Chicago

"A cozy neighborhood spot favored by University of Michigan fans, Gannon’s has served fish and chips since its founding in 2003. Its battered cod is available two ways: in two six-ounce pieces with fries, slaw, and tartar sauce, or as tacos with mango salsa." - Sam Nelson

Review Update: I was at Gannon's yesterday afternoon and we were there around shift change. Both bartenders were fantastic! This time we decided to try eating something here, and ordered the avocado BLT and the fish and chips. The sandwich was solid, the fish was great, but what stood out to me was the fries. I told the bartender/server that the fries were killer, and he said some people just come in and order fries cause they are so good. I believe it! Truly, these are the best fries on Lincoln Ave from Irving to at least Bryn Mawr. I hope to be back soon to get a beer and a side of fries, from the prompt and friendly staff, in this unpretentious gem of an establishment.

Great little neighborhood pub. The cheese curds were awesome, the Wisconsin burger was tasty and big. The side salad is very large and well worth the price. The atmosphere is casual and friendly and the music they play here is fun. We also played a few games of darts. There is a large patio out back, but we chose inside because it was super hot and humid that day. Bekah is a great bartender and super friendly. We will return.

Small Irish bar. Decent food, burgers were ~15$ and filling. Fries were great and salty. Think hangover food. Not all menu items are available. Limited tap and beer list. Out of bloody mary mix. Good thing Hop Butcher is across the street. Bartender was helpful and kind. Kitchen was quick. Music was lame, pop songs.

Worth it for the Youtube Poop Pilgrimages and the DINNER You will not want to say SQUADALA, We Are Off! after eating here My boy, the food here is what all true warriors strive for! 10/10 would spadinner again they should offer a bag of plums though

Google
The good: atmosphere, music playlist was superb, service friendly, 3 dollar dice shots ftw, decor. The not so good: Water tastes a bit weird(almost buttery or something?), cheese curds are like cheese pearls and ketchup is plain(ask for the siracha aoli which rocks with cheese curds). A few small improvements would quickly get 5 stars.

Google
Excellent fish & chips and fish tacos - mango is key. The fries are delicious seasoned with secret salt.

Google
Nice place to stop in for a drink. The roll the dice shots that my friends and I took were definitely a nice way to spice things up. Love the location too. Easily walkable if you're near Lincoln and plenty to do in the area.

Yelp
Had a visit to another Lincoln Park dive bar. It's not that much of one but it's as divy as you can get there it seems. Gannon's has a mix of Irish and other themes going on pretty much. More known for the drinks such as the beers on tap and some mules that are refreshing. The food is pretty basic stuff like pretzels, wings, and those types of things. Came in at lunch and it wasn't that busy for a weekend at least. It has a pretty good amount of space inside and out. There's a beer garden in the back open for summer. It's about $10 for a cocktail. Pretty good stuff like the Irish Mule, made with Jameson. Basic food on the menu however. There's greasy stuff like burgers and that if you want. It's $8 to get a couple of Jumbo Soft Pretzels. These are good to munch on with beer or whatever. Also they have cheese curds. These greasy things are among the good things for sharing. Get some great beers on tap and some cocktails. It has a pretty basic food menu. There's burgers, pretzels, and whatever.

Yelp
Yikes! Came in with a group to celebrate a friend's birthday and catch the Illini game. Our first bartender was great but something went wrong when the shift changed. First, apparently, when the game was on the jukebox got turned down instead of off so about $25 of my hard earned money evaporated into thin air. When I realized what happened and asked the bartender instead of working out a solution the bartender promptly cut me off. (I had had a very reasonable number of light beers and food, I promise I wasn't being belligerent. I know how to be a jerk and this time I wasn't.) Whatever, fine, so I attempt to close out and the tab doesn't add up! The total is literally a different number than the subtotal plus tax! So I ask about this and that doesn't go over well either. Paid and left feeling a bit robbed and with two regulars trying to physically intimidate me and others in my party. Very strange, would not recommend.

Yelp
Solid joint! We popped in here for a pop before a haircut, and since that turned out really well, I will definitely be back again next time my hairs need cutting. Cute, friendly bartender kept my boyfriend company while I was off at said haircut. I came back, and we hung out some more, because it was so fun! Then we got into an incredibly fun conversation with other patrons about travel and stayed LONGER. Great neighborhood vibe. Friendly, cute, fun staff. WILL RETURN 100%.

Yelp
Customer service is outstanding- they make you feel like family. Wings are delicious! Nice hidden neighborhood gem!

Yelp
One of the best burgers in the city. The fries are fantastic. Solid beer selection. A friendly and on it staff that adds to the experience. Tyler and Teah (sp) are both great. This is my favorite place when I'm in the city! Can't wait to head back.

Yelp
Best fish n chips I've had in Chicago. No frills, straight forward. I have eaten at Gannon's several times but decided to order the dinner from doordash.... Risky business. Gannon's did not disappoint. Fish and chips were piping hot. Sauces were on point. Everything was crispy to perfection and the portion was enough for two meals. I Love Gannon's!
google avatar

Errol B.

Yelp
Ordered delivery. Got a burger and fries. The only part of it fit for human consumption was the side pickles. The burger and fries tasted way off. Like fishy tasting. I do not know what that can be attributed to, although it probably means old frier oil and dirty grill. Who knows? The burger was cooked properly and perfect, however.

Yelp
Horrible service- people of colour stay away! A friend and I popped in for drinks and NBA playoffs. Suddenly, the TV we were watching was abruptly turned to baseball, and only one TV for our game- fine that's all we need. We ordered wings to eat, nothing special just wings. A full family came in after we already had our drinks. They were noticeable since they had loud kids. Long story short, that family not only received their entire dinner AND finished before we got our long forgotten about wings that were hastily warmed a second time-40 mins after we ordered. When we asked why it took so long and how an entire family was served before us the server said "they were backed up due to Doordash". Whatever, subtle hints our presence was not welcome.

Yelp
Just come see Becca. Do you want to feel like you're home? See Becca. Do you want to have a great night or a night cap or just see a welcoming, friendly face? See Becca. First time here and if the rest of the staff is anything like this amazingly knowledgeable incredibly inclusive human, then this is your new fucking spot.

Yelp
Came on a Wednesday. They had $5 all you can eat wings. That's right! $5 ALL YOU CAN EAT WINGS. It was like being in heaven. I've been looking for wings specials in Chicago and it's so difficult to find. Come in hungry! Our server was also the bartender. Mad props to the man because he was running the entire pub along with the cook by themselves. There were just way too many people for being so short staffed. Even with that, he still managed to get our orders right and tended to us in a very appropriate manner considering. Them alone deserves the 5 stars. The wings were good sized wings. From experience, they were like any other size wings around Chicago. I had 26 and it was enough to fill me up. I weigh 200 and 6 feet and I almost couldn't walk after that haha. As for the flavors, they have: Gold (which is like honey mustard), BBQ, Buffalo, and Caribbean Jerk. My personal favorites were the jerk and BBQ. I don't know how much their beers were. Didn't see a menu for that but I'm assuming they were pretty cheap since our bill was inexpensive. Definitely have to come back here again! I'll be telling my friends about it

Yelp
in LOVE w the bartender (teagan? tagen?) either way absolutely ball out hope you get to your sisters graduation and enjoy it!!!

Yelp
Came here for St. Patrick's day night and had a lot of fun! The pub was packed and they had live music playing, although I was sad it wasn't Irish folk music. Nevertheless, it was a lot of fun. There were a group of fun people dancing up front and me and my friend joined them and enjoyed our time there. I know they have trivia nights on certain weekdays that a couple of my friends go for, and they love it. While I was there, I was hungry and tried their chicken quesadillas, I probably won't come back here for food, but definitely to have some fun.
google avatar

Yelp
Let me start by saying, place your takeout order over the phone with the restaurant directly. We didn't do this and didn't realize we couldn't leave a tip until it was too late. Also, we found out that food delivery services take 30% of the total from pickup orders. We got wings, fries and chicken tenders and they were all AMAZING. We'll absolutely be back as it's close to home. The bartender, Sheila, was very kind, tip her well! We couldn't tip her this time but we'll tip her double next time!
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
My husband and I came in here on a Sunday afternoon and everyone stared at us like we were aliens. We sat at a table for about 15 minutes before we decided to leave after being ignored and not greeted or served. I'm even a Michigan alum but I decided to go to the Michigan State bar across the street because this place gave me the creeps - Go Blue!
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
This is a decent pub. The best part is the outdoor seating. Note: The outdoor seating by the entrance is better than the beer garden in the rear. The bartender was friendly-ish, but far from stellar. The beer list is eh. They do have daily drink specials which is nice.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
I really like this place. Its a solid dive bar. They had decent beer prices (including pitchers!!) They have golden tee, decent wings that were $5 when we were there watching college basketball and this place took care of us perfectly. The servers were slightly overworked and that makes for a slightly frustrating situation (for them and us). I cant blame them, they were working their tails off keeping the beers flowing. I like this place for sports, beers and hanging out. Great little spot.

Yelp
I went to Gannon's this Saturday on the 4th of July to get a quick bite to eat and some cocktails before Fare Thee Well. There was only one staff member working in the front of the house and she was super friendly and attentive, even though there were a decent amount of people at Gannon's. I had a Bloody Mary, which was spiced perfectly and garnished with a lime. Check out my full review here: https://www.bloodymarytour.org/midwest-1/2017/1/26/gannons-pub-chicago-il For my meal, I ordered the Wisconsin Burger, but subbed out the burger patty for grilled chicken. It was delicious! It was topped with 2 different types of cheeses, cheese curds, and this pepper relish, which all resulted in a tasty pub sandwich. The fries were good, too. The atmosphere of Gannon's is a homey, sports bar feel inside. There's a jukebox with a large variety of tunes (we found some Phish songs!), along with a patio where you can dine and drink outside. Prices were good- Absolut was on special or $4.50 so I got a double Bloody for only $9! That's a steal :) My sandwich was less than $10. They had a Saturday special for $5 wings-- this was a very tempting choice.

Yelp
Skip Bad Apple across the street, the food is better here! You will be pleasantly surprised just how good the food is here! You can't go wrong with the chicken or steak sandwiches! Good atmosphere, good crowd and good managers. Great bar in a good neighborhood. Parking can be tough, especially when Lou Malnati's opens up down the street!
google avatar

Carri C.

Yelp
I always have a good time at Gannon's. Chicken sandwich, burgers, and tacos are all solid. I like the beer list-- Anti-Hero, Two Hearted, and Guinness on tap. Reasonable prices on the drinks and food. Quite a few tv's to watch sports. The staff are all friendly, especially Sean. Authentic Irish pub. Glad to live within a block of this bar.

Yelp
Came here again to watch the Hawks' Conference game against the Canucks. My friend was already here drinking when I showed up and it's 'his' bar as he puts it. I had a Half Acre and sat at a small table. THe bartender came around every once in a while to check up on the almost full place, taking away food plates and empties and still managing to get behind the bar in a flash. The special that day was 1.75 mini burgers. I ordered them with cheese and got a plate of four. They were simple burgers with a little pickle in them but the taste was fabulous. My friend said it was because the patties were fresh, not frozen. I liked them enough that I ordered another 4. The service was great and great food deals. I don't know why I don't come by more often.
google avatar

Heather P.

Yelp
I liked the atmosphere here. It's small and quaint, nothing fancy. Just a good ole neighborhood bar. They had a decent selection of beers on tap. I also noticed an array of daily deals. Being a fan of deals, this pleases me for future visits of course. I had a horseradish burger and it really didn't do it for me. The fries were awful...cold, undercooked and just gross. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that this was an isolated incident. My friend really enjoyed her mac and cheese. Overall, I'd go back but there really isn't anything here to draw me in other than I noticed a $5 wing deal that I'd be interested in checking out. It has beer, seats, and low lighting...works for me!

Yelp
We drove past a few days ago to see if the blonde bar person (owner?) was working. If not, we would try again. She was there. Bummer. JF from the previous review must be going to a different 'Gannon's Pub".
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
Came into Gannon's after doing a brewery tour to get some food and have a drink. The specials were spot on for a saturday day drinking tour. Great beer on tap and the shot dice made our experience even more fun. Rolling the dice corresponded to a certain type of alcohol, I think it was Smoked Rum, Tequila, Bourbon, Coconut Rum, Grapfruit Vodka, and Malort. Of course I got stuck with the Malort. They have a dart board in the back and plenty of tv's to catch a game.
google avatar

Melinda L.

Yelp
A quintessential cozy neighborhood corner pub. Absolutely delightful owners and friendly bar staff. (The kind of place where bartenders become regulars and vice versa.) They have great weekday specials on food and beer, and my trivia team is pretty in love with the fish tacos, chipotle chicken sandwich, and cheese curds. In the winter, it's always plenty warm, and in nice weather, there's outdoor space in the front on the sidewalk or in the little patio out back.
google avatar

Yelp
Went with a friend for an impromptu lunch date and was pretty happy with the experience. Parking available across the way in the paid lot is usually fairly open during off-hours, so you're good on that front. We arrived for lunch around 11:30 a.m. on a Saturday and the place was basically empty. Seated promptly, service a bit slow since it was just the bartender serving the entire place, so not his fault. Food was decent. The burger was good but the toppings I got were a bit underdone, not salty enough, etc. and I wished there had been more in terms of flavor. Some of the other burger combos looked much better so maybe it was just what I ordered. Tap domestics were cheap and the service picked up a bit after a waitress arrived to help the bartender out. I'd likely come back if in the area again, but I'm not going to seek Gannon's out as my go-to Irish pub.
google avatar

Colleen C.

Yelp
Went here after a softball game over at the park with about 15 team members...even though the bartender was the only one working in the bar our drinks/food were rockin! He was super fast, really nice, and gave the stragglers at the end (including me) shots and free pitchers for hanging out so long (and probably, spending so much money!) Anyway, very friendly guy, defnitely great with the customer service, we all had a great time and the food was great, actually. We'll be going back, I'm sure!
google avatar

Yelp
I just realized I hadn't written my review for this place yet. Shame on me. Now it's time to remedy that. Came here for the third installment of the beer garden drinking series and to mingle with fellow yelpers I hadn't seen in a while. It was a great time minus the bugs that swarmed us at dusk. However, once the sun went down it was a terrific evening to be outside. I must admit, right here and now, that Gannon's has the best Tuesday special ever! $3.50 Stella & Blue Moon Pints - LOVE me some Belgium style goodness! $3.00 Hamburger w/ Fries - Thick juicy patty with all the fixings and their fries were pretty delicious too! I think I can fairly say a good time was had by all, myself included.
google avatar

Catherine B.

Yelp
Good beer, good people and (surprisingly) good food! There's daily food and drink specials and plenty of TVs to watch any game. This is a great neighborhood place. Menu items to check out include the cheese curds and burgers. Mini-burgers (sliders) are $1.00 on Sundays!
google avatar

Yelp
My cousin Nosheen just ended her favorite job, which was here! Right in the corner, this bar is busy with extra friendly, laid back bartenders that are very attentive and can small talk with you. Saw a mix crowd here, a group of guys, a group of guys and girls, parents with their college kids! It got busier as the night went on. The cook did a great job making our quesidillas. Fresh and tasty, what more can you ask for bar food? I know this bar is a popular stop in town and I can see why. This place makes you feel relaxed and comfortable and it's a good start to a night out. They have broken board games but a cool Jukebox and Darts, and seriously, we did all that because it's fun, especially after a few drinks.
google avatar

Steven R.

Yelp
This place sucks. We came in at 9pm and asked for seats on the patio. The bartender said it was packed. The bar was empty. We had a couple drinks and waited. The hostess told us at least 3x that it was still crowded. An hour later, my wife went outside and checked the patio and there were at least 4 free tables. They were lying the whole time. Their patio is not that popular. Way too many better bars in the neighborhood. Don't need your shitty patio
google avatar

Yelp
Spent a completely chill, laid-back New Years Eve at Gannons, and I couldn't have been happier. While some of my friends spent $100+ per person for an open bar at some packed Lincoln Park location, I was able to easily find a table for the 4 of us (at 10:00!) who didn't want to do THAT and walked out only $30 lighter a piece (we paid for what we drank - novel idea). They even had a free champagne toast and party favors. My New Years experience was similar to the couple other times I've been to Gannons: cool pub vibe, decent service and a good crowd. Now I just need to try the menu, because everything sounds so tasty!

Yelp
its an OK bar the bartender NICK the younger one followed me and a friend OUT the bar just to ask why we didnt tip him not sure if he has been drinking but this gave me creep vibes! if i had it id give but even then im not obligated since we only had a few 2-3 less than 5 dollar shots keep in mind this was a few years ago

Yelp
I have a hard time going here since there's this one guy who I've seen here on more than one occasion, and for the life of me, I can't figure out where I know him from. I realize that doesn't have anything to do with the establishment itself.... As far as bar food goes, I like the mini pulled pork sandwiches, and the hummus is pretty standardly good. My friend swears by chicken fingers wherever she goes, and she said they were a-ok as well. They have regular specials, food and drink on the cheap, and a nifty beer garden as well. I wish our weather was conducive to beer gardens year-round. I will second the service being a little slow and spotty, but it's usually with a smile.
google avatar

Ramsay S.

Yelp
Love this place for Packer Games! Awesome food, cool ass bartenders and fun clientele.

Noelle H.

Yelp
Every bar is different, and there's a bar in this city for practically every crowd or feel. Gannon's is an excellent representation of North Center and Ravenswood: the atmosphere is laidback and low-key, void of any sort of I-just-graduated-from-college-and-I-just-want-PBR-and-Jager-bombs douche-baggery, but it's still sophisticated enough to offer a great selection of craft beers (or liquor if that's your deal). Our bartender....I think his name was Sean/Shawn, was lovely. Great sense of humor (and sense of service). It was trivia night and the crowd, once again, wasn't obnoxious like other trivia crowds. Wild Goose, across the street, seems to be where immature young adults drink their Budweiser and eat their wings. Bad Apple, also across the street, is a great bar but it's frequently crowded and easily intimidating. Gannon's is the perfect solution if you're craving lovely options and a no hassle, comfortable pub vibe.
google avatar

Caroline M.

Yelp
On a lovely spring evening, I met my fabulous dining companion at Gannon's for some conversation and a beer or two. Unfortunately they were out of mac and cheese....so staying with my cheese theme, I chose the grilled cheese and it was pretty solid. Their beers were not. At pubs, I like a larger selection of beers and sadly, Gannon's didn't have a whole lot to choose from. I think it would be a good place for groups to gather and have some beers or if you're just in the mood for some pub grub. I might return, but there are tons of places on Lincoln I need to try first.
google avatar

EricandEvan ..

Yelp
Really don't want to make this place too popular, but here goes... Gannon's is chill. The bartenders are courteous, attentive, and look like you could carry on a great conversation if you were there alone. Beer selection is good of course. The appetizers and food never disappoint. Just thinking about their delicious fries and sauce has our mouths watering.

Yelp
I've been to Gannon's for many occasions - dates, birthdays, trivia, food or just straight-up looking to get hammered - and I've never had a poor experience. After drinking at Gannon's only twice, nearly the entire staff took the time to learn my name and remember me. The drinks are cheap, the food is impressive and the workers are friendly. In the summer, their beer garden is ideal. The low-key, casual atmosphere is inviting and likely will bring you back in. Gannon's has become a go-to establishment for my friends and I. Their weekly deals rock and the surrounding North Center neighborhood is superb. Great place to bring friends and relax or get intoxicated - the pub can draw a crowd.

Yelp
4 stars for the all-U-can-stuff-yourself-with fish n' chips. Great Cod Almighty! 2 stars for the service. 1 star for having prices differ online and on actual menu. I realize that restaurants have to at times change menu items and prices. It happens. No big deal. But when you boast a "new spring 2008 menu" online, it would appear that your website and its contents are up to date in early May. Well, not in Gannon's case. On Friday I asked about the $3.50 Sierra Nevada special listed online. It apparently changed that very day to $4 Harps. Fine. Well, the $5.75 Fish n' Chips special listed on line was $7.75 in person. I did not see an "online discount" mentioned or offered to Gannon's online shoppers. I will give it to Gannon's though; the bartender/owner is very nice here. Either the server was overworked or would just plain disappear for long periods of time on end. And I don't really get my panties in a was over the whole price thing, but what it does for the establishment, be it a waffle house, bar, lizard brothel, or mule colony, is to set the standard of inconsistency. But, the fish 'n chips was quite good. Gannon's is an easy place to hang out. I might go back, but the whole Haley's Waitress thing tends to rub me the wrong way.

Yelp
Went to celebrate a friend's birthday, and they picked it because of the smoking-allowed beer garden. It was fine, the bartenders were great! I love it when bartenders tell people trying to cut the order line "she was here first, I'll be right with you." I'm told one of the 'tenders was the owner, so kudos for that. Typical selection of any neighborhood-style bar, so I can't complain! They had a decent number of TVs playing the Hawks game; if you live in the area and need a venue for a sporting event it would probably do the trick. I saw an MSU flag, so I'm guessing if you're a Spartan you might find some classmates here on gameday? It's a bit farther than I usually go to find a pub, but easy enough to get to - a short walk from the brown line. And does the name make anyone else think of The Legend of Zelda?
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
I've yet to see Gannon's as it really is. I think the way to see if a bar is really worth its salt is to experience it on a Friday or Saturday night. Nearly any bar will do at mid-afternoon on a weekday, as went our most recent visit here while we played hooky to watch the World Cup. Still, I think Gannon's is a place that will hold up to a weekend evening quite well. The bartenders are friendly, and they're quite capable of pouring a proper Guinness. You'd think that this would be a given at any Irish pub, but it's not nearly the case. Perhaps the nicest feature of this Irish place is its addition rooted in German drinking culture. I'm talking about the beer garden, of course. They've done really well with theirs, as it feels like a little secret drinking garden. People walking on the other side of the tall picket fence may wonder what's happening on the other side, but you and your friends are already well on your way to happiness.

Yelp
Went to Gannon's to watch my beloved Spartans play an exhilarating game of football, in which they wont 45 to 7. yeah it was northern Colorado or some random team, but a win is a win !! The place was EMPTY. The bartender was the only visible employee there though I am assuming there was a cook in back ! The bartender was really nice, changing the game to whatever TV we wanted, putting the sound on, and even bringing me a glass of soda water when I spilt chili on my scarf, of course it wasn't even mine !! Food was very reasonable priced, nothing spectacular but it did the job ! Tried the loaded fries and the nachos, fries were lacking flavor and the chips were a little stale, but again, cheap and there was bacon involved so I can't really complain !! Though they claim to be a Michigan State bar the lack of clientele and willingness of the staff to accommodate you makes this place great to watch any obscure game you may want to see !!! Also an option if your trying to grab a burger at Big Apple and need a drink to help ease the pain of the long wait time you will surly be given !

Yelp
Every time I decide to meet up with my old friend Reilly we go to this Gannon's Pub down the street from his apartment. Since Reilly is a drunkard he's acquainted with the owner and that gets us a friendly greeting or two (ordinarily, bar and restaurant owners seat us near the back with "the help" - so thanks for being a good guy, Sean). Usually, I get a Buffalo Burger and it's good. Reilly gets fries. His girlfriend Erin sits there and eavesdrops on us as we talk trash about our paranoid friend Joe. Then, she takes pictures of us as we get drunk. Eventually those pictures pop up on Flickr, and one of my relatives calls me on Sunday and says, "You look really trashed in that picture on your friend's website, are you taking care of yourself?" No. I'm not. But thanks for asking, Aunt Connie.

Yelp
I've been to Gannon's on several occasions, and had take out too. I live right down the street so it's pretty convenient. I've tried all the burger places in walking distance of my house and Gannon's is by far my favorite! I always get the horseradish burger! It is amazing! So is the mac and cheese. I am a huge mac and cheese fan and Gannon's is good! The guy who's always working, I'm not sure if he's the owner or not, is always very friendly even though it appears he's the only one working the front of the house. I've never had a bad experience there and I love the patio!

Yelp
In my quest to try every bar and restaurant along Lincoln Ave from Berteau to Lawrence I hit up Gannon's with some friends Saturday night. It definitely helped that my friend's bf used to bartend there, because he could recommend drinks. We ended up with a pint of Oberon each and shots of chocolate cake, both yum (although my body was not happy with me later.) It was a totally unpretentious neighborhood bar that is within stumbling distance to my apartment, so I'll definitely be back. Plus the bartender was pretty cute (bonus!)

Yelp
Good place for a few drinks. The crowd can be a bit yuppiesh for my tastes, but the bar staff is nice and knowledgable. I've had some great conversations in his place with people I've just come across, but I've also been unable to have a conversation with friends I've met there due to the incredibly loud ambient sound. There's no booths, all hi-tops and stools, which wouldn't be an issue if it were so damn loud. I don't mind ruckus, but I also don't need to hear the couple next to me break-up and then consummate their reunion while I'm trying to catch up with an old friend. Also, the bet garden is right outside, and while I don't mind cigarette smoke if it's a constant, it seems to overtake an entire half of the restaurant every time someone comes in or out. The chipotle chicken sandwich I have developed quit the craving for. In fact a the food is really fresh and delicious. A cut above normal bar food.

Yelp
Gannon's is slowly becoming one of my favorite neighborhood bars. It's nothing special. And that's what I like about it; it's just a solid place to get a drink (or five). The service is great. Well, the blonde, male bartender is great. (The rest of the waitstaff? Eh. Not bad.) We showed up on a breezy, early Fall afternoon looking to sit in the beer garden. It was closed, but the bartender offered to open it up for us. We told him we didn't want him to go to any trouble, but he insisted. He then waited on us, as well, even after we tried to come inside and serve ourselves since he was the only one manning the bar (and all this during the MSU game). The food is pretty decent, too. Skip the gorgonzola dip, but if you like salt as much as I do (I envy deer and their salt licks), the fried pickles are a must-have.

Yelp
I have been going here for Friday night fish and chips and it is delicious. Of course it is all you can eat and the price is reasonable at 7.95. This is a good neighborhood pub and the service is reliable. Gannon's is mostly high tables of 4, with 2 people sitting at them. I can't say it's great for groups, but if you are a small group you'll be fine. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
It's a good pub, they do everything right! Decent Beer List with even some 3 Floyd's.. Prices are very fair. Short & Sweet menu with apps and sandwiches/ I thought the grub was well above average especially for the price! Try the "Horseradish Burger" or the Chicken Sandwich and you won't be disappointed. Wings looked good too.. Service was good/ I'm pretty sure the owner and my only complaint is that it gets pretty loud in there, especially when an immature "Batchelorette Party" shows up ordering people around! get dat did
