My buddies and I were lured to Garage for its vast amount of space and prime spot on the corner of the street in Fishtown. Garage might be a cool, hip place to catch a game and drink with friends, but all amenities considering, this was a very underwhelming experience.
On the dining side, the entire menu is incredibly sparse. There aren't many drafts to choose from, a small selection of cocktails, and barely any options for food. There's about four sandwiches to chose from and only two (meatball and porchetta), sounded enticing. I went with the meatball and it wasn't anything I was expecting.
Although it tasted good and I liked the french bread, you receive a pretty small version of a sandwich for $6. I didn't understand the reason to serve the food in paper bags wrapped in tinfoil, also. Completely unpresentable and made the sandwich a little messy, too.
Because you have to buy food now in order to drink at bars in Philly, they should really expand the menu with more variety. At least include some classic bar food like flatbreads or burgers.
Overall, I ended up having a good time with my friends so this wasn't a total loss. I was hoping for a bit more pizazz from the food, but the allure of Garage comes from its atmosphere, which I think is a reason to give it another shot.
