"Named for the famous plaza in Mexico City where mariachi bands congregate, this surprise hit is located inside, of all places, an Englewood gas station. It’s known for its quesadilla-like, chicharrón- or veggie- filled quekas; tostadas, enchiladas, and more featuring blue corn and cactus; and sometime specials like lamb barbacoa, wings in mole rojo, and mango-topped corn custard — but it deserves equal recognition for its prompt and welcoming service." - Ruth Tobias, Eater Staff

"The ultimate hole in the wall (or, in this case, gas station), Garibaldi is beloved for out-of-the-ordinary items like the tacos azules — blue corn tortillas laden with chorizo and cecina (cured beef), queso fresco, sauteed onions and nopales, and more — as well as a vegetarian version featuring poblanos, mushrooms, and nopales. Stretching the category a bit, it also makes tacos dorados stuffed with chicken or potatoes." - Eater Staff, Ruth Tobias

"One of Denver’s best (not to mention unusually vegetarian-friendly) Mexican kitchens just so happens to be located inside an Englewood gas station. It’s perhaps best known for its quesadilla-like quekas and tostada-like tlayudas, but regulars fill ’er up with off-menu specials like weekends-only pozole and lamb barbacoa as well." - Rebecca Treon, Eater Staff, Ruth Tobias

This place is a gem!!! The most amazing food, super friendly staff! Every item we ate was just amazing!!! Everything was fresh and homemade!

Jeff Kotowski

Google
Authentic food with MANY vegetarian options, and the ability to be made vegan. This book cannot be judged by its cover.

Google
I've been to the Gothic Theater for shows over 30 times and never knew about this spot. It's easy to overlook because it's part of the gas station, but won't pass it up ever again. I will be coming back everytime I'm across the street for a show! I got the Pambazo Torta. It was GREAT! The chips and salsa was some of the best too. Can't wait to come back and try other things out

Alex Huang

Google
If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, this is the best place to go! Don’t let the unassuming restaurant front and location next to the gas station fool you. The decor inside makes for great vibes and complements the Mexico City-inspired food. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to give recommendations. I was especially impressed by the huarache. Definitely up there with the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. On top of that, the portion could’ve been enough for two meals. Great bang for your buck. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Valeria Yuseli

Google
I was very excited to try this place but its alright. I expected the big pizza looking dish to be cut in pieces they said I had to eat it like a taco but its HUGE! and the knife we got wasn't enough. The pambazo was probably the best thing I had. we will give it one more chance and go from there!

Holly Malott

Google
This is hands down the BEST Mexican restaurant in Denver. Don't let it fool you that it is in a gas station. I'm sure everything that you will try on the menu is amazing. I have only had the vegetarian things. My favorite is the Papazules. The people that work here are so nice too. You need to come here. It is the best!

Taylor Martin

Google
I was very pleasantly surprised by this excellent dining experience! The staff was very warm and happy to share his recommendations. We had two chips and salsas for free. I got the sope with pastor (delicious!!! And only $5!) my SO got a breakfast burrito which I sampled also super good and huge for only $8. We then had a desert red velvet cake hot chocolate for $3. We were initially concerned by the texture but when we asked about this the serve r explained it was because they used real raspberries and grenadine to make their red velvet flavor. We will be coming back! :) Edited: Unfortunately, both myself and my SO have been suffering from food poisoning over the last two days. The hot chocolate texture should have been concerning. Chips and salsas; free. sope with pastor; $5 breakfast burrito; $8. red velvet cake hot chocolate; $3 Food poisoning; free We are scared to come back

Google
Drove from Aurora because this place was recommended to us. The little restaurant is attached to the gas station, but has its own 4 walls and a very clean bathroom. I ordered the chili soaked torta. It was delicious, but could use some more fresh produce to cut the grease. It looks they handmade their tortilla chips. The salsa was very unique. The carne asada could use more flavor and time on the grill. The chorizo was perfect.

Shawn A.

Yelp
Amazing enchiladas and great chips and salsa. Had the nopales and blue corn enchiladas. Definitely will be back again!

Paola U.

Yelp
I heard great things about this place and well it was just, ok. Glad I gave it a try though. Service: great. Nothing to say here but that I was greeted as I walked in and everyone else was too. Quickly asked "for here or to go" and throughout our dine in the young lady checked in on us. She gave us to go boxes and Togo cup for my agua fresca. Food: now for the food . . . It was just OK to me nothing over the top nothing spectacular. Based on the hype and reviews this place had, my expectations were quite high. Nonetheless not the best Mexican food I've had or the worst. What we ordered: Tacos: 3/5 ok Enchiladas: 3/5 Asada plate: 3/5 Asada fries: 3/5 Horchata: 4/5 yummy and not too sweet - but tasted more like coconut agua fresca Jamaica: 5/5 yummy, tart not too sweet Salsas : 5/5 Ambiance: cute, no complaints loved the authentic feel and Mexican music playing in the background

Brian J.

Yelp
Was working around this area and decided to eat here for lunch. Located in a gas station, but they have plenty of room. Place is also very clean! I ordered the Enchiladas Aztecas with Carnitas. I like the taste of the cactus, but the carnitas were very salty. The corn tortillas were also tough, like they had been sitting out for a while. I think I would have enjoyed the dish more if I didn't have the carnitas.

Kylie C.

Yelp
I like to use Yelp for good, in this case I'm doing good to the world by recommending you NOT eat here. The service was slow, the waitress did not check on us during the meal or offer refills, I had to chase her down to pay the bill. The agua fresca was bitter. My biggest gripe was my plate of Nachos, where the cheese was shredded and MICROWAVED. I had asked for multiple topping to be put on the side and they never brought them. I paid $15 for chips, some lettuce and a drizzle of sour cream. Not worth the price. A small hole in the wall which did not deliver, a dirty messy excuse of a restaurant.

Renaye V.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this place since it got so many goo reviews. Our server was not very friendly, the food was very bland and over cooked. The chips were stale and the horchata tasted off. The restaurant was bigger than I expected and pretty clean. I really can't recommend anything we got. Sope was undercooked Asada was ground and dry Rice was so bland, no color to it either Chorizo burrito had no flavor Carnitas were very dry

Amy R.

Yelp
Grabbed a to-go Torta Milanesa today for lunch and it is sooo good! I wish I had time to eat there because they had amazing live music.

Megan H.

Yelp
Hot damn that was an awesome breakfast burrito!! I got mine with chorizo, and split it with someone. I asked for the green chili on the side rather than smothered. But it also came with two salsas which were sooo good I'll probably skip the green chili next time. I waited 4-5min for the burrito and could barely contain my excitement while I heard everything cooking in the kitchen. The restaurant wasn't busy today, but it was clean and a fun spot I want to come back to. Some Google reviews said these were small burritos, but not today! This one was huge!

Sadie D.

Yelp
We loved our experience at Garibaldi. Friends took us there not knowing we are vegans. The owner customized food for us and it was delicious! We will definitely be back. Unusual dishes that we loved. It is in the same building as a gas station so it is a little hard to find.

Trish A.

Yelp
What an interesting location in a gas station. We started with chips and salsa. It was ok. I had a steak burrito, which was huge. Way too much for 1 meal. Will have the rest for lunch tomorrow. Again it was ok. My husband had the carnitas and said they were also ok. After reading the reviews I do not agree with the 4 1/2 stars. Probably will not return. There are many more Mexican restaurants to try.

Marty P.

Yelp
I ate dinner here with a friend last night. Again, it was a fantastic experience! My friend was impressed as well. She ordered a burrito which was huge! I tasted some of the burrito and it was really good! I ordered steak fajitas. They were really good as well! A young lady waited on us. She was very friendly and accommodating. I remembered her from my last visit here. For dessert, I ordered churros. I had some last time. They're really good here. I look forward to returning many times and trying different things on the menu. I love the cozy and quaint atmosphere of this restaurant. I also just love how it's situated in a gas station. I sort of wish I live closer to this place.

William C.

Yelp
I was a bit in between whether to give it 4 or 5 stars, but I'm going 5 because I had such an all around enjoyable meal. Who knew that a Mexican restaurant in a gas station could be this good. My buddy and I wanted to try a couple of things. Our server was outstanding. I've never had cuisine from Mexico City, so we had a ton of questions for our server. She explained every item beautifully and gave us some solid recommendations. We ordered a Quekas and Pambazos with the intent to share both items. When our food came, they split the 2 items we ordered and made us a plate with 1/2 of each item. We didn't ask or expect this service. I fully expected to cut it in half ourselves and share, but they did it all for us. That was super customer service in my opinion. The best way to describe the Quekas is the best quesadilla you've ever had in your life. From the fresh tortilla to all the filling inside, it was far and away the best quesadilla I've had in my life. The Pambazos was fun. You're definitely getting messy eating this. The bun was super soft on the inside, like a cloud. The sandwich was covered in a guajillo pepper sauce. My fingers turned red from the sauce, but it was so worth it. Super tasty sandwich and reminded me of a less messy torta ahogada. Yum yum yum! I wish we had this place here in Vegas.

Ian C.

Yelp
Contrary to Bob H's review, Garibaldi's is not closed down, they simply changed their hours. They open at 10:00 a.m. now instead of 7:00 a.m.

Matt D.

Yelp
My father presented a coupon there today and they refused to honor it -- he was told simply that they don't accept coupons. We plan to file a complaint with FTC, and are currently gathering more information for our case, so please contact me if you have also been victimized by this deceptive practice.

J N.

Yelp
We stopped in on a chilly Thursday night after seeing a recommendation on YouTube, and we weren't disappointed. The server was so sweet and attentive, and the food was delicious. We ordered the Torta Milanesa, Huarche, Pambazo, and an asada taco just because. It was all fantastic.

Emma J.

Yelp
We've lived in the area for a while and seen signs for this, but didn't actually give it a try until a friend highly recommended their breakfast burritos saying it was some of the best he's ever had. We got two breakfast burritos to go, one chorizo, and one bacon, both un-smothered. These things are beefy! And super filling! Definitely the best value burritos for their price ($7). We got them around 10am and didn't eat again until 4pm haha.

Don P.

Yelp
wow..... as you can see from my original review, I was a big fan! My have times have changed.... :( We went there after not being there for a year or so, and while the taste is still good, portions are RIDICULOUS! I get it that everyone's costs, labor etc are up, but c'mon Garibaldi...! Meat in the fajitas about 1/8" thick, had to search for chorizo (two pieces in the Pambazo) sorry, you lost us... .we will not return!

Marla D.

Yelp
Don't let the location fool ya (attached to gas station). Hands down, best breakfast burrito in town. Some of those other burritos are very small and very wet. Others are so dry, you'd wish you had the super wet. Garibaldi's has the best of both worlds, but with more flavor. You can get them smothered as well. They do have other things, but I haven't moved on from the breakfast burritos. Btw, they serve Boba.

Mike D.

Yelp
Okay folks, lower your expectations on "ambiance." You're eating at a restaurant attached to a CONOCO gas station. Think "No frills." Now, that said.... The food is quite simply fantastic. I've eaten at amazingly good restaurants in Mexico City and Garibaldi's is on par with those. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful in explaining the menu selections and offering suggestions. The specials they offer on the weekend are worth listening to. Ask for the mixiote -- it comes with tortillas, black beans and rice. This a traditional pit-barbecued or oven-baked meat dish from central Mexico. You can have it prepared with pork belly or chicken. If your not familiar with a fatty pork belly, then go with the chicken. Ask for extra sauce "on the side." You'll thank me later. Their chips and house-made salsa are perfect too.

Sarah H.

Yelp
We got the chilaquiles and huevos rancheros and both were delicious! Friendly service and delicious food; what more could you ask for?! We would definitely come here again to try some of the other menu items. 5 stars all the way!

Rachel G.

Yelp
I'm sure I'm being a little harsh on the rating. GrubHub the order $50+ w/ all the fees and tips...not sure it was worth the $50+. I order 3-tacos, 2-skirt steak and 1-pastor taco, 3-enchiladas 2-chix and 1-cheese and $7 Queso. All for $50+....dumb on my part, in my defense 2-kiddos under 8-maxed put after traveling w/a time change...the food-chix-enchiladas dry, cheese enchiladas over cooked...hard to cut. The rice was flavorful and beans would likely be good hot. The pastor taco tender, pineapple not ripe-totally bummed. The skirt steak wasn't as tender as I expected and there was an abundance of onions. Slightly disappointed....and the queso was clumpy . Worth the fees or for that matter the $28 prior to fees

Michael S.

Yelp
Excellent food good mix counter service which was great limited menu for breakfast entrees

Sarah H.

Yelp
What Garibaldi lacks in ambiance it makes up for in flavor. As much as I love Tex-Mex, when you want a unique menu that's a little more authentic to actual Mexican food, Garibaldi it where you want to go. They have a great selection on the menu and after about ten visits I've yet to be disappointed by anything I've tried. They are also worth following on Facebook so you can find out what their (always amazing) weekend specials are.

Joy X.

Yelp
We love this hole-in-the-gas-station restaurant. Portions are huge, and prices are reasonable. My husband and I tried to split a smothered chorizo burrito, some sort of taco plate, and churros, but we got waaaay too full before we could finish them. Everything was delicious and we would love to come back though!

Narley N.

Yelp
Simply clutch! Where else can you get a 12$ burrito that can feed 2-3ppl? This spot is just one of those gems you hear about and find out is all the TRUTH! The service was excellent, and quick. The food was fresh and plentiful. Whenever I'm in Denver I'm coming here each time!

Jo L.

Yelp
Complimentary chips and salsa if you dine-in. Like that they toast the outer shell. Chorizo and Carnitas was not too flavorful Pastor was nice and flavorful

Nika T.

Yelp
Nice service and enjoyable complimentary chips and spicy salsa. My husband and I both opted to try the huaraches. I got mine with carne Asada and he got his with half chorizo and al pastor. My asada had a crumbled beef look to it and tasted kind of "old" and chewy if I ate a bite on its own. With the rest of the toppings and sauces on the huaraches it was fine but I was disappointed it had an old beef taste to it and wasn't fresh and tender. My husband said his meet toppings were also rather chewy and disappointing. I would go back and try them again, but not on a Monday, when it seems like their meats aren't very fresh.

Ann X.

Yelp
Legit food and love the cactus vegan options as well! Dine in to reduce waste and get free chips and salsa

Steve T.

Yelp
This is a gem of a place with delicious authentic Mexican food. The servers are extremely friendly and provided recommendations on what to eat. I got the "Taco's Garibaldi Azul" and it was delicious. Taco's with blue tortilla's that had a wonderful taste. They include pickled cactus that was sweet and tasty. This place is attached to a gas station and does not look like it would be a good place to stop...but extremely glad I did. Recommend you check it out.

Jack S.

Yelp
Food is good. Has some different Hispanic dishes I've never heard of before. Staff is always nice and restaurant is clean. Not a big place but a nice little gem

Uli K.

Yelp
Don't let it being next to the Conoco gas station deter you. Awesome food, service, and atmosphere! Hidden gem of Englewood.

Rodrigo L.

Yelp
Some of the best restaurants are literally a while in the wall and when I heard about Garibaldi I just had to check it out for myself. I tried the Huarache which was absolutely delicious. The service was amazing, so friendly and accommodating as I had to charge my phone while there. I am definitely going back there to try more of their menu

Dobbey G.

Yelp
I've been here multiple times and overall it's ok. It's attached to a gas station and there's only a few small tables inside so I've just done takeout. The chicken quesadillas are tasty. That said, the churros I got were inedible and the enchilada was a bit too wet for my taste. I guess I just like their quesadillas.

Eugenia J.

Yelp
Seriously legit Mexican food. I had blue corn tortillas filled with all kinds of yumminess (cactus, onions, cilantro, cheese, meat, etc.). These are possibly the best tacos I have ever had - and I have had a lot. Highly recommend stopping by for a bite to eat.

Aaron A.

Yelp
Quick, cheap, authentic, and delicious! "Gas station tacos" they have these types of places everywhere down south, unassuming and adjourned to a gas station. Don't be fooled by the nonchalant appearance, Garibaldi is authentic mom and pop Mexican. If you're looking for a casual and extremely fairly priced place to eat some quality Mexican food, this is your spot. Service was lightning fast and staff is super friendly. Food is delicious and chips and salsa are provided free. Al pastor tacos = the cheeseburger of Mexican food. If there's any dish that can be indexed, that is the one. Their al pastor tacos are top notch - sweet grilled pineapple, onion and cilantro, and juicy marinated pork. Delicious! Take the negative reviews with a grain of salt and try this place for yourself! You won't be disappointed! Plus, you're supporting a small local business that is great at their craft!

Ae B.

Yelp
Love this hole on the wall Mexican restaurant! Amazing choices for vegans and vegetarians, as well as carnivores. Love all the blue corn and nopale dishes. Salsas are all homemade and flavorful (and spicy!)

Steve Y.

Yelp
This place is a true hidden gem. The food was amazing. We had the Chile Relleno and the Asada Torta. If you are looking for a great meal, stop by and check it out. Don't be fooled as it's connected to a gas station in Englewood. It is worth the trip. Very yummy!!

Robb C.

Yelp
We went here for lunch one day, a friend recommended it. I must admit that I was somewhat leery about dining in a restaurant attached to a gas station, however, once inside I forgot about that. Our server was very friendly and made suggestions about what to order and what we could order to add to our selections. The food arrived quickly, we were the only customers in this place, and everything was hot. There were 2 teenage boys and 3 adults in our group and everyone was satisfied. I even took a large portion home. I am not a connoisseur of Mexican food, but I can add that my dish was excellent and one of the best Mexican dishes I have had.

Patient B.

Yelp
This unassuming restaurant is actually adjacent to a Conoco. That doesn't change anything. Inside a surprising Mexican theme awaits along with authentic Mexican cuisine. This is not a fancy restaurant, it is an authentic one. Fast service, hot food and they deliver with Grubhub! We also love the Horchata drinks.

Matthew F.

Yelp
Tacos were excellent! We came searching for street style tacos and were not disappointed. For $2-$3 per taco, you get two warm corn tortillas, generous serving of meat, and the typical onion and cilantro relish. Topped with some limes it's all we could've asked for in a taco. The inside is meh; seems that more people come in and order to go. But give them a visit and try their food, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Will L.

Yelp
Definitely love this place. Food is amazing, but I'm scared it might be going downhill a little bit. Took a friend there today for her first time and I feel like something has changed. The quality of the food was a little lower than I remember from just a few months back. Also, don't get ice water or fountain drinks here, just stick to the bottled stuff - they do not clean the ice machine and the water consistently tastes like mold, which kind of ruins things for me. Maybe it's always been that way, but I'm avoiding caffeinated and sweetened drinks in 2022, so I've noticed every time I've been there lately.

Natalie T.

Yelp
Huarache azteca was slimy. Carne asada was rubbery and under seasoned.

Charlie K.

Yelp
A colleague of mine told me about this well hidden gem a couple of years ago saying that it was the best Mexican food he's ever had. I've heard similar before about other places and being a Mexican food snob considering where I grew up I took my time to try it.....and what a mistake that was, I could have been enjoying this fantastic food for a couple of years now and I can't remember when I've had better! Even the refried beans taste homemade from scratch! And if you order something spicy it's actually spicy, yay! (unlike so many American restaurants unfortunately) For those that don't like the beef, well read how it is prepared! Authentic taste of Mexico!

Alex S.

Yelp
One of my new favorite burrito spots! So much flavor and perfect amount of spice. I prefer refried beans in my burrito (OG is black beans) but they do substitute so if that is also your preference def ask for the switch. Get it smothered!!!!

Sunu S.

Yelp
This is alright, it wasnt the greatest mexican food i ever had but it was decent. The problem for me was that by the time the food came out it was not hot and looked like it had sat there for a minute. I got the cactus rellenos and the cheese wasnt melted at all, and the cactus relleno felt soggy and wet. Eh its just that when i saw a video on youtube they hyped it up to make it look delicious but when I tried it myself it just kinda seemed bland compared to other mexican foods i've had. Just dont expect anything amazing, but its a great pitstop kinda place.

Joan F.

Yelp
Ok it's in a old gas station but I took home a lot of selections for my sons birthday and was not disappointed. I'd suggest do take home and enjoy a great selection of Mexican food. They know how to cook! Maybe someday soon they will get a bigger place the food deserves it.

Kasey G.

Yelp
Drove 30 mins to try their "legendary" entrees. But after my 30 mins of traffic they tell me their doing "late night menu only" AT 7 PM .... Yes if you show up after 7 their kitchen is closed and they only have chorizo and carnitas tacos and one torta sandwich to choose from. Pathetic. Who starts "late night menu" at 7 pm?? Strike 1 They forgot my chips and salsa. Strike 2 they gave me warm horchata. Strike 3 my 3 tacos were just vacuum wrapped tightly in aluminum foil UPSIDE DOWN IN TBE BAG my car is COVERED in chorizo grease. Strike 4 the food was bland and had no flavor. Their "salsa" was water. Their limes also wrapped up in the foil so it boils the juice out by the time you get home your limes are dust. That's more then 3 strikes, the tacos were gringo as can be, I'm sorry that food and service was beyond pathetic. No food at 7pm ????

Shanna K.

Yelp
Some coworkers and I stopped in for lunch and now it's a frequent stop for all of us! Great tacos- street style with tasty protein and a few fixings, not over the top like so many places can be. My favorites are the carne asada fries (great combo of toppings and flavors!) and quekas (crispy corn tortilla stuffed with melted cheese & meat-yes please!) Also, the service is top notch. Everyone is so friendly, it's easy to make this a weekly stop for lunch or dinner- or both:) Tip: The green chili can pack some heat

Jordan M.

Yelp
The finest gas station Mexican restaurant in the greater Englewood area! Food is authentic and on point! Can't go wrong with street tacos but treat to yourself to the Azteca menu section featuring cactus cuisine! This place is a canned beer refrigerator section away from 5 stars (sadly no alcohol but get a jarritos instead!)!

Ann M.

Yelp
What a nice surprise. Great value. Worked with my vegetation substitution on the breakfast burrito. Fresh and yummy. Good salsa and chips. . Also have boba drinks. In the same building as a gas station so not much parking but easy parking around the corner on a residential street. Real plates, silverware.

Ashley D.

Yelp
Last night I told my husband I wanted to have dinner at a gas station tonight.... he asked me if I had hit my head. I follow @thisisinsiderfood and am kind of obsessed with the "Line Around the Block" series... I stumbled across a video about a mexican place with amazing food not too far from where I live....it is happens to be inside of a Conoco gas station. The food is absolutely brilliant! We had the following items: 1. Huarache Azteca- A whole cactus paddle grilled and topped with fresh avocado, pico de gallo, and poblano sour cream. Garnished with radishes and served with a side of tortillas. 2. Papazules- 2 soft corn tortilla tacos stuffed with potatoes, onions, fire roasted poblanos chilies, pastor meat and topped with queso Oaxaca 3. MUST TRY!!! Tlayuda- a large, thin, crunchy, partially fried or toasted tortilla covered with a spread of refried beans, asiento, lettuce or cabbage, avocado, chorizo, Oaxaca cheese, and salsa. 4. Chicken Fajitas which were a gigantic portion of delicious!
