The Best Restaurants in Richmond, Virginia

"This relaxed and homey corner cafe offers some of the best sandwiches in the city. Try one of several “Croques,” like the Croque Park Avenue with black forest ham, gruyere, spinach, and garlic aioli under a blanket of mornay sauce, or the Scuffletown Chicken Sandwich, a classic version with big chunks of chicken and a pickly twang. Garnett’s happy hour ($3 glasses of wine and pints of beer, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and week-long $35 date night special (any two menu items and a bottle of wine or pitcher of beer after 6 p.m.) are two of the best-kept secrets in Richmond. Must-try sibling spots include modern fern bar Laura Lee’s and the Roosevelt, for acclaimed Southern cooking in country-chic digs." - Robey Martin, Stephanie Ganz

On the Grid : Garnett's

"Garnett's feels like it's always been there, situated on a sunny corner in the heart of the Fan. While only a half-dozen years old, it could as well be a perfectly-preserved sixty. Serving modernized takes on classic sandwiches, Croque Garnett, The Cali Club with avocado, or The Chaplain, Turkey, Gouda and Dijon mustard on housemade Boston brown bread. The sides and drinks are just as classic; Sweet Tea or bottled Cheerwine and sides just like your Southern Grandmother made for a social; housemade pickles, black-eyed pea salad or French potato salad. In keeping with the times, Vegetarian & GF options abound, but everyone should save room for the huge cake and pie slices. which sit temptingly along the back counter awaiting their final selection." - Mobelux

Fantastic local lunchonette and "watering hole" offering an eclectic assortment of sandwiches 🥪 , salads 🥗 , soups 🍲 , and desserts 🥧 . Quite small, but very cozy, so expect to wait (well worth it) at peak times. Hidden at the corner of Park & Meadow, a gem 💎 of the neighborhood. The cheese plate was Stella (no pun intended) with the creamiest Gorgonzola ever! 😍 My Croque Garnett was quite tasty 😋 and accompanied by a luscious cup of Potato Leek soup 🍲. Now wishing I had tried one of the house-made desserts (I'm especially fond of pie 🥧 and the daily special was Chocolate Chess 😛!!) Will return to try the cold sandwiches 🥪 which looked 👀 extremely tasty 😍!!

Google
It kinda breaks my heart to give this place 3 stars, as the food is always incredible and has always been one of my go to spots (the Point Guard is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had). That said…my past couple visits have been ruined by the service. The skinny worker with the long black hair and thick eyebrows needs to be held accountable. Today, 2 of my friends and I sat and waited for around 30 minutes with no drink or food order. About half way through our wait, a couple of ladies came in and sat down. The attendant immediately jumped to serve their table, remained and chatted them up, and got their food out while we still waited to order. I had also ordered food to go (very clearly pointed to a menu item) and the attendant was adamant I had ordered something else, resulting in the food being remade and adding an extra 20 minutes. We got our order, we paid (waiting another 15-20 to collect the check), and we left. To be clear, we had absolutely no problem with the other staff, ambience, or our food. But this truly is the second time this individual with the long black hair has turned what was supposed to be a quick lunch into a much longer than anticipated affair. When you’re at work, focus on your work! Especially no excuse when you only have 2-3 tables in my opinion. All the same, restaurant itself is immaculate and the food is everything all of the good reviews say it is

Great spot for food or drinks. This place is tiny but quaint. It is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. You may have a wait depending on when u show up.

Google
Cozy atmosphere with welcoming employees. I was able to get a spot for two at noon on a Wednesday, but it was pretty full. We got two grilled sandwiches, the Scribe with a side of pickles (the caramelized onions and pickled mushrooms were delicious), and the Manny with a side salad (both were exceptional). The beer selection was adequate, and had beer on draft which was a plus. I didn't order a slice of cake but all 3 options looked wonderful.

I love this place! Never been before, but loved the weekday date night special. Great food and good times.

Google
I have been coming here for about 4 years now regularly. Service is always top notch and the portion sizes respectable. I rarely write reviews especially for a Richmond institution I have frequented at least once a week since I have lived here. However, tonight and the last couple of times I have been there the portion sizes - for mostly to go- have been incredibly underwhelming. This time really got me incredibly underwhelmed and merited this review. Got the Coach with potato salad tonight and the side cup of potato salad was filled with only 4 pieces of potato barely going a quarter of the way high in the portion container and the sandwich had more bread than protein with about 3 slices of roast beef. I have been use to getting a reasonable amount of food for an affordable price and this was not it. Kitchen has been underwhelming. Maybe staff changes because the person working the kitchen was not anyone I had seen worked there in my frequent trips there. Front of House staff was different too and seemed overwhelmed with only half the dining room filled. Hoping they turn it around and arent skimping on product because of the volume - we come here because the portion sizes are great for the price!

Google
This is one of my favorite places to eat in town. It’s cute and cozy. The staff is always friendly and the food is great. They have a good happy hour deal and date night deal every day after 6pm.

Google
Garnetts not only has the charm, it has the food to back it up. It may be small inside, but the food packs a big bite! Great place for sandwich’s. Even have a deal for a date night meal. Good drink options as well. Go in, take your time and enjoy a real Richmond spot!

Yelp
I love this classic RVA lunch spot! All of the sandwiches I have tried have been amazing and there's many more I would love to try! The spot is small but cozy, definitely gives 80s diner vibes. They have an amazing date night special of two sandwiches and wine for $30. They also have where you can order to go and ask for it to be put in a picnic basket to take across the street as long as you bring the basket and blanket back. A must try for sure!

Yelp
No surprises here - this place is exactly as advertised - DELICIOUS. Been wanting to try it for awhile and finally got the chance - and saw so many pics of The Manny that I couldn't resist its gooey goodness. UGH and that potato salad. Their sandwiches are generously portioned and and the bread was toasted to perfection. My girlfriend and her sister loved their orders as well - if only I could remember what they got. Service was quick despite the place being PACKED when we were there. A bit small on the interior, but gives off the vibe of a reliable, homey neighborhood sandwich shop that continues to please its customers day-in and day-out. Can't wait to come back someday for the $35 date night deal!

Yelp
The Garnett's Garden sandwich was outstanding--one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Something about the toastiness of the bread, the just right garlic white bean spread, and the caramelized onion...phew! It was so fresh and so right. Service was excellent, decor was very cute. We had a 30ish min wait on a Saturday afternoon. It was well worth it.

Yelp
We were passing through Richmond on a road trip and I looked up restaurants close to I-64. Garnett's came up as a local favorite, so we had to stop in to try. We came on a weekday around 1 pm, and we had a 30 minute wait for a bigger table for 3. It was packed! It's a small space with exclusively indoor seating. They said they could not take to-go orders at this time of day with it being so busy. Luckily it sits right next to a park and a beautiful neighborhood, so we walked around while waiting for our table. Just make sure you have someone in your group stay closeby so your table isn't given to someone else! There's 1 hour free street parking a few blocks away, which I would recommend using and walking a bit instead of circling the restaurant looking for a spot. They also have a bike rack. Our server was very friendly and took our order quickly. The food took some time but we were fine with this as it was clearly made with care. The Manny: Delicious, dreamy melted sandwich that I will crave after I leave! Everything about this was good. The Belle: My friend said this was the best turkey sandwich she'd ever had. Croque Monsieur: My friend said it was good but could've benefitted from having a steak knife because it was hard to cut. The sides of potato salad and vegan chili were also good! The chili has a bit of a kick! Because there was a wait behind us they wasted no time giving us the check. There's one bathroom on-site. We had a great meal and I definitely recommend to folks in the Richmond area!! Other cute things to note is they will loan you a picnic basket to eat your meal in the park and they also have an excellent date night deal every night - $33 for two mains and beer/wine! Wish I had something like that in my city!

Yelp
After passing by this restaurant on a regular basis; we decided to give it a try and we met a friend there for lunch. The place is very, very small and since it was at the height of the lunch hour, we had to wait. Waiting is done outside because as I said, the place is very very small. Once we were seated, our server brought us menus and waters very quickly ... which was good of her, since she was clearly very busy. The staff there certainly earns their wages and tips because they were all busting their butts to get their customers fed. The food was quite tasty and their menu offers lots of sandwich options. Their menu also mentions a happy hour and a date night which sound interesting, but I have yet to try out either of those. I believe they only offer wine and beer for alcohol consumption. With the service that we experienced, along with the delicious food and cafe charm, I'm sure we'll be back for more visits!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute small cafe. The decor is historically eclectic. The sandwich was good but not very filling. Would still come back and recommend to others. The service was good but not as friendly as they could be. Not in a bad way, just short staffed.
google avatar

Harrison C.

Yelp
It is one of my favorite sandwich places in the entire city! It feels like you are walking into a little European cafe! Be sure to only go if you are a party of four or less because it can get tight, though that is part of the charm! My go to is the pointguard, and though I'm sure their other stuff is good, I just can't push myself to get anything different because it truly is the perfect sandwich! Prices are also reasonable! They have a date n if the special every evening that is two entrees and a bottle of wine for $33! You can't beat that!
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Best deal ever - $33 happy hour two entrees from the menu and a bottle of wine or pitcher of beer (beer is for dine in only). Friendly staff, ordered the big daddy sandwich and an open face sandwich. Both delicious. Sides were great. For happy hour they have $3 beer and wine. Definitely a great deal. Small and cozy restaurant .
google avatar

Yelp
Very very delicious sandwich they have a great eclectic mix of lunch offerings. I would highly recommend any of the warm sandwiches with the Morné sauce. The banana pudding was also recommended and certainly did not disappoint worth a visit if you're in town..

Yelp
I always like to try a new place that has gluten-free offerings whenever I visit Richmond. I went to get takeout this past Friday during a very busy lunch hour around 12:30pm. I was a bit overwhelmed with the atmosphere as the place is very quaint but a tight squeeze. Takeout was about a 20 minute wait which was no big deal. I like that they provided this information before you ordered. I decided to try The Point Guard on Gluten free Bread. I did ask for the caramelized onions to be omitted, but as you can see from the picture, that was forgotten. I ordered chips as my side and appreciated they had seats outside the cafe to sit and wait. Once I drove over an hour home I was excited to dive into my food. I will say I think the Cafe did me a favor leaving the onions, it paired so well with the jalapeños giving a sweet/savory taste. The cake was delicious as well and the nutmeg wasn't overpowering. The total price was around $21. I'd definitely go back and sit at the park across the street.

Yelp
Garnetts date night offer is great! 2 dishes and a bottle of wine for $30. Low key cozy environment.
google avatar

Mackenzie C.

Yelp
Got takeout from here and it was amazing! Very small inside so I don't know if I would ever dine in but taking it to go didn't compromise the quality of the food whatsoever. Fresh ingredients, friendly staff, and menu items I haven't seen at other stores in the area. The banana pudding is amazing and a must try!

Yelp
This adorable, little corner spot in Richmond's Fan neighborhood has quaint ambience, good food, and a sweet, simple menu, consisting mostly of soup, salad, and sandwiches. Check out their date-night special! Dinner for two and a bottle of wine for $33 -- it's a charming bargain!

Yelp
Came to this cafe and area of Richmond on a first visit to the city. We loved how it's tucked away in a neighborhood and across from the park. Very much an old school lunch counter/diner place. We appreciated that although the menu was simple, they had variety of sandwiches, which also included vegetarian options. My husband enjoyed the turkey club and I really liked the California veggie with the side of French potato salad. Good, prompt service as well despite it being a busier day. Can't wait to visit again next time we're in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
I had a really nice time at Garnett's. A coworker had recommended it as a lunch spot and I'm glad she did! It's a quaint little spot with a small but quality wine selection, and a variety of cool unique sandwiches. My only complaint was our server never once approached us, every time we needed something we had to approach him. Seemed like there was only one server for the whole spot. I thought the staff seemed overall really friendly though, and I'd recommend a stop by.
google avatar

Yelp
Garnett's Cafe has that Fan neighborhood feel like everyone should know each other without the feeling that you just walked into a party and you are the only one who doesn't know everyone in the room. It has the odd, charming features you only find in old buildings like having to walk between the bar and grill to get to the one-seater bathroom that opens into the dining room. Don't forget to lock the door. This is my kind of place. My husband and I opted for the $33 date night special: two entrees and a bottle of wine. I ordered The Teacher: grilled roast beef and Gorgonzola on Italian. He got The Colonel :Roast beef, turkey, Swiss, lettuce, tomato, and sauce on toasted ciabatta. Both were very good. For sides we got black-eyed pea salad and French potato salad. We enjoyed both and weee pleased to find side options that were less traditional and did not include mayo. The bottle of wine okay and cost about the same as two glasses. Service mimicked what seemed to be the rage in the early '90s: you get everything you need, you aren't interrupted, there's nothing to complain about but somehow the server still gives the impression that the guest is a bit of an inconvenience.
google avatar

Deanna S.

Yelp
Garnett's is an adorable tiny cafe nestled in the heart of the museum district of Richmond. My favorite sandwich is the Croque Monsieur, which is black forest ham and gruyere grilled on Italian bread, topped with Mornay sauce. It's a sandwich you eat with a knife and fork. I also like the iced tea at Garnett's because it's fresh brewed and not bottled. This is the perfect little spot to bring a friend and have a cozy conversation.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Garnett's is a great little place to go if you have ample time during the week or time to spare on the weekends. It is laid back to point of leisurely service and pacing -- until they need the table turned over. Then, suddenly, you feel juuuust a little less wanted than you were 5 minutes earlier, no matter how much food you still have left on the plate. With (I think, this is from memory) 6 bar stools, maybe 5 two tops, and 2 four tops, this place is not big. So I understand the need to drive turns. But being just a little less obvious with the drive-by dropped check and dropped take out boxes might not leave this as the patron's final impression of the joint. I need to say first and foremost that I am just super impressed with what they can turn out of such a small kitchen area. I had more space for food prep in my college dorm. But this does not deter the staff, they get the food out, and it is all tasty good heart warming stuff. I had the Manny, which is turkey and pepperoni, swiss, onion, and spreads on a toasted roll. It was very good, although I would recommend asking them to perhaps throw the onions onto whatever cooking surface they have -- crunchy raw onions were a bit jarring. The red bean chili was a great soup. I would go in just for this, by the bowl! My picky dining partner had the croque monsieur, and found the mornay sauce to be excellent. It truly carried the rest of the sandwich. The coffee was good, fresh, strong, and welcome. A refill came without asking, which is nice. I wish I could have gotten a third cup toward the end, but what can you do. Although we didn't have them, we looked at the cakes in the display cake stands. All were clearly left from the day before (we were there on a Saturday at about 11:20 AM and most were well sliced out.) All looked left over and worse for wear but not bad. I would go back to try, perhaps. We were intrigued by the Date Night special, $33 for any two menu items plus a bottle of wine or a pitcher of beer. This is available any night after 6 PM. Not a bad price compared to the menu prices for single items. We will continue to return to Garnett's from time to time. It is good but not fantastic and deserves its place on the dining rotation.

Srija K.

Yelp
This is my favorite place for a sandwich and it never lets me down. My favorites are the point guard and the haberdasher. Be sure to try the potato salad as well! They also have a wonderful rotation of different desserts.

Tony R.

Yelp
So sad that I drove all the way from DC and showed up at opening. They never answered the phone and so we showed up and they couldn't serve us or do a take out order bc they were "at capacity". It's just sandwiches and cold sides. Very sad day.
google avatar

Emilie T.

Yelp
First off.....this place is tiny so no parties over 4.....but there's also a nearby park if your group wants to order and eat there. I've done this on a nice day before. The variety of options here is outstanding. I've tried several sandwiches here and have never left unhappy. Most recently I had the Manny, the Teacher, the Scribe and chicken Salad. I would get them all again but the menu is so vast I'm always compelled to try something new. Most recently Kiki took care of us and was great suggesting something new. Keeping this one in the rotation!
google avatar

Dorsey M.

Yelp
Good food and a great price! I always love going to Garnett's because it's reliable and delicious.

Kelly O.

Yelp
It's easy to forget about Garnett's. It's been around a long time and it pretty much stays the same. And, boy, that's a good thing. Great sandwiches with so much variety and I like to pair them with their excellent potato salad. It's always a little hit or miss getting seated at lunch time, but usually the wait is just a few minutes. The best!
google avatar

Carmen M.

Yelp
Decided to get the $33 date night for a picnic. It includes 2 menu sandwiches and a bottle of wine or pitcher of beer. I was impressed with the Sandwich potions (very filling) and it included chips. I got the Manny and it was really good and toasty. My bf got the Big Daddy and it was an incredibly large sandwich. Submitted an order online on a Wednesday afternoon and it was done within 15 minutes. The date box was convenient for a quick date. I'd order it again The only downfall is that they don't include napkins or cups for your wine/beer.
google avatar

Caitlin R.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place on a whim when trying to find something to eat with my boyfriend. We were in the mood for some sandwiches and decided we wanted to try something new! Garnetts Cafe is a cute little spot in the corner with such rich cultural richmond decor. The service was pretty great, there weren't that many people so we didn't have to wait too long to be seated or served. We ordered the Scuffletown Chicken Salad Sandwich & the Colonel. The chicken salad sandwich was SO tasty! I loved how it had a hint of sweetness and possibly cinnamon? It paired super well with the potato salad! The Colonel was just okay, I think it was just the tiger sauce that was iffy and didn't compliment the sandwich. (It's basically just sweet and sour sauce). Afterwards, we decided to try out a slice of their brown butter pecan cake and it was AMAZING! Literally one of the best cakes I've ever had! It was so moist with just the right amount of sweetness! Their cakes are homemade and change every season I think? Also thanks to our nice server, he made the experience unforgettable!
google avatar

Jessica T.

Yelp
I have loved this place for a very long time and now my office is right next to it! This giant sandwich was amazing! It's the best chicken salad in Richmond for a reason! This is the BBLT and this is the first time I added chicken salad it was so good! Don't pass up the home made pickles, they are life changing. Always amazing service with amazing food quality! Love this place so much and now they deliver!
google avatar

Marina N.

Yelp
Cute, quaint little cafe in the Fan! Probably has the best sandwiches in the area. I normally don't eat sandwiches, so I wanted to get something that stood out. The Smoked Salmon Sandwich caught my attention and boooooyyyy, it did not disappoint! Some smoked salmon sandwiches are very salty, but this one was perfect. They've definitely nailed down the ingredients in the sandwich to balance the flavors out. It came with a side, and I picked their potato salad and that was also delicious as well! Normally some potato salads are just too heavy for me, but this one was just the right amount, with the fragrant garnishes and acidity levels. Everything tasted very fresh, portions were fair, and service was fairly fast. I'm still thinking about this sandwich to this day... It was so worth it! Can't wait to return!
google avatar

Wael D.

Yelp
Hell yeah, finally got to try this place for lunch and was very impressed. Their sandwiches are one of a kind in Richmond. I got the point guard and loved it. The place itself is small and buzzing like a New York deli but very quaint. Our server was on the ball the entire time we were there. I also have to commend their sweet tea here, some of the best I've had. They steep it with mint or lavender or something and it's definitely a game changer. I'll definitely be back because the entire menu is thoughtful and intriguing.
google avatar

Jake B.

Yelp
Such a lovely spot in Richmond. My partner and I each got a sandwich, which was great - both were croque-monsieur style, and very high quality. But the best thing was far and away the homemade pickles, which were absolutely unreal. I will say that this is not a light meal, and left us feeling quite heavy afterwards. Overall very much recommended!
google avatar

Alyx F.

Yelp
Oh Garnett's I love you so. There's something so satisfying about a really good sandwich and soup and if you're looking for that kind of comfort food on a chilly day in Richmond then look no further than Garnett's. Such a cute spot in the Fan with limited and cozy seating, but worth grabbing a spot if you can because the vibe is just like a big hug. I haven't had a sandwich here that I haven't liked and I have tended to gravitate towards their hot sandwiches due to the chilly weather lately. I always spend the extra few bucks to get the soup because sandwiches and soup were meant to be together. One thing I haven't tried but I really want to when the weather warms up is their date night picnic baskets. Such a cute idea where you can grab their food to go in one of their baskets and head over to the cutie park across the street to enjoy.
google avatar

Paige K.

Yelp
Quaint and chill! Great spot for a quick lunch or a romantic dinner. You can also post up at the bar and get some work done at the same time. Love this spot !

Yelp
The hype is real. An adorable tiny spot in a residential neighborhood with a neat vibe service delicious sandwiches. There are 24 seats total in the place but the wall decor really works, it felt so homey and the staff are also efficient and nice. Had the croque park avenue and it was incredibly good. Served hot, everything worked well together and the monay sauce was delicious. The side of chips came from a big bag so wish they had homemade chips - but the kitchen is tiny. The arnold palmer was delicious too with homemade mint syrup. I'll definitely be back next time I am in Richmond

Claire S.

Yelp
food is usually good and the prices are pretty decent. the service is the problem. I've never had good service here and considering what a small restaurant it is I have a hard time believing it's because the server/servers are overwhelmed. it seems to be an attitude problem. on one occasion I ordered a hot chocolate which was served to me cold. I'm in no rush to come here ever again. I could get a takeout sandwich from quite literally anywhere else, spend about the same, if not less, and not feel judged for simply existing.
google avatar

Jayy R.

Yelp
A lovely little hole in the wall lunch spot The food was good Super affordable The service was quick Everyone was lovely 10/10
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
Great food for a great price. Small, quaint place with a great atmosphere. Service was excellent, she checked on us enough, but not overbearing like some places. We will be back. Plus date night deal is a big draw. Love that we can get it to go for a picnic (when it warms up again!)
google avatar

Aaron L.

Yelp
Arrived during the scheduled business hours on a Sunday and they had a sign on the door that says "closed at 2:30 for restocking". Very unprofessional. If you list working hours for 11-9 pm on Sunday then you all need to be open from 11-9 pm on Sunday. We commuted to come to the restaurant just to see that they are taking a mid-day 1.5 hr break. This is a deterrent for small businesses to get the support they need when they need it.
google avatar

Nan B.

Yelp
Sweet little neighborhood bar and eatery. The one-person seating-ordering-serving arrangement works amazingly well! Dining area and bar are quite small so a short wait for a table is not unusual. My veggie sandwich was excellent and ample to the point I had no capacity to try the tempting homemade pies. Unfortunately, not suitable for wheelchairs.
google avatar

Yelp
BEST SANDWICH SHOP IN RICHMOND!! Small town vibes. Can be fancy or casual which I love about this place. The Smoked Salmon sandwich has been my go to for years! It's so refreshing and creamy. The French potato's salad is packed with flavor. We also tried the coach! It also had a lot of flavor, both sandwiches could have used some red onion for a bit of heat. 10/10 would recommend. If you're visiting Richmond some places to try Shindigz Foo Dog Proper Pie Ginger Thai Garnett's Fat Dragon Jack Browns Village Cafe

Yelp
Garnett's makes my heart and tummy happy. It's charming and delicious. I'm not one to want to go out for sandwiches (because I feel like it's something easy to make), but their sandwiches are worth it. Their date night special is especially amazing ($33 for two menu items and a bottle of wine). I've come a few times and am always excited at how local this spot feels. For lack of a better term, it's soooo Richmond. Here are some of the yummy things I've had or my friends have enjoyed: Croque Garnett: I get this pretty much every time. I know they have other yummies on their menu, but this never fails to make me happy. The Mornay cheese sauce is the star of this sandwich, but so is the ham, and the cheddar, and well...pretty much the whole thing Garnett's Garden: If a salad was a sandwich this would be it. Fell a little short for me, wouldn't necessarily recommend, but still pretty good The Cali Club: A turkey, bacon, and avocado combo is always incredible and Garnett's does this combo justice. A delicious sandwich that's perfect for any day and any time BLT: My friend loves the way they do this sandwich because they are really generous with the bacon. She looks forward to getting it from here The Aviator: Another friend of mine found this yummy, but a bit too heavy on the horseradish Pickles: All my friends love the way they do their pickles here. They're slightly sweet, but the right amount of savory to balance it Chips: They're chips, you can't do this wrong Chili: I'm not a chili person, but I enjoyed the cheese to bean ratio in their chili soup. Would recommend! French Potato Salad: So good! It's flavor is delightful and light! Funfetti Gluten Free Cake: A bit dense and sweet for my liking, but would still be excited to try a different flavor Les Volets Pinot Noir: This wine is DELICIOUS! It's light and has a really nice after taste. I appreciate its structured tannins Their sandwiches are good, no matter how you slice it

Yelp
Best sandwich I ever had at a luncheonette : tons of crispy bacon, tomato and lettuce on ciabatta with Benedictine(!), a rare southern find. Loved black eyed pea salad on side. We did not have to wait but I suspect the wait can get long in this tiny gem of a spot. Go early or late!

Yelp
Garnett's is a cute hole in wall restaurant in the fan I've been going to for years. There's only a couple of tables and a bar top, serving soup, sandwiches and a few beers on tap. If your looking for a good sandwich you can't go wrong with Garnett's

Yelp
Every time I visit Garnett's I love it even more. The cutest little sandwich shop nestled on the corner of Park and Meadow - It's truly a Richmond charm when it comes to unique sandwiches and I absolutely adore the homey decor inside I've been craving a good sandwich and there's nowhere that satisfies like Garnett's. The portions of meat, condiments and toppings in each sandwich is just right to where you literally get a perfect bite every. single. bite. Unbeatable!! Make sure you save some room for a piece of cake because they are to dieee for & For all you love birds out there - You can rent a picnic basket and order the "Date Night" (2 entrees and a bottle of wine for $30) to enjoy at a small park across the street!

Yelp
Dainty cafe located in the Fan. However, the place is small with few tables and currently no bar seating due to the pandemic. I think there was some miscommunication with the hostess. We had a party of 4 and were okay with separating into smaller tables of 2 (maybe she wasn't okay with that idea), but she didn't really gesture for us to sit down and then repeated again, "are you dining in or taking out?", which made it slightly feel awkward and uncomfortable. I ordered the Croque Park Avenue sandwich, which is covered with signature Mornay sauce. All sandwiches are served with a choice of a side, which I chose chips. Either the knife wasn't sharp enough or the bottom Italian bread was very hard, but I had to literally saw through the bread multiple times. The sandwich with the sauce was savory though. I also ordered their house mint lemonade, which was very refreshing.

Yelp
My partner and I always love going to Garnett's. The food is so delicious and gluten-free friendly, and the staff are so thoughtful. There is usually something new to try each time we visit. It's our favorite place to split a sandwich for lunch!

Yelp
***My Favorites*** Very lovely little sandwich shop that looks out at Meadow Park making one of the most picturesque little street corners in Richmond. Interior and exterior are all around cute and calming. The menu has tons of diverse sandwich options and its a place where you can try something new each time and it is always good. I recently had the Garnett's Garden which is a vegan option and it was delicious, notable for it's wide variety of different veggies making a really pleasing layer of textures. The housemade pickles are a must, well if you like pickles or are pickle-curious. These taste fresh and bright, not syrupy sweet or tasting strongly of vinegar. Further notes are they have a great deal on beer and wine for happy hour, and their housemade pies/cakes look amazing and I need to try one soon. Also, they have an option to get your take-out with a picnic blanket and wicker picnic basket. Great date spot! What to order: Garnett's Garden, The Colonel

Yelp
We just love Garnett's. My husband and I have many fond memories of lunches here. It is dependable in just about every way and the coziest little dining room. Always our go to for a lunch date.

Yelp
Came an hour and a half before close, everyone had a bad attitude (which seems to be the norm at garnetts) and I was served an ungrilled grilled cheese. Just cold cheese and ham on bread. And the chili was cold. Sad bc I like the food usually but I'm def put off for a while. As a fellow server, this was the first time I haven't tipped 20% in a really long time.

Yelp
Came here with friends for a casual lunch. Delicious sandwiches ! I had the hot cheese, mushroom, onion sandwich and my husband had a gravy sandwich. I found myself dipping my extra bread in his gravy ! It was so good ! Also didn't have room for dessert but took home the olive oil peach cake which was such a treat when we got home ! Highly recommend.
