The Best New Restaurants Around Boston, July 2025 | Eater Boston

"Fluffy, Roman-style slices are the name of the game at this thumbnail-sized, counter-service pizzeria that just arrived in the South End. The pies range from straightforward — the margherita is an excellent starting point — to fancified creations like the prosciutto di parma, with roasted figs, fig jam, slices of prosciutto, arugula, and a sweet gorgonzola layered on top of a crispy-edged, rectangular slice and blend of four cheeses. The restaurant comes from Columbus Hospitality Group, which is behind a slew of high-end destinations around the city, including Mediterranean spot Ostra in Back Bay and the Mooo... steakhouses. (Note: There’s no dine-in service; the restaurant is takeout and delivery only.)" - Erika Adams

I don’t remember how the pizza tasted in Italy since it has been years, so I didn’t expect this pizza to unlock a memory from that trip. The crust was perfectly crispy and airy, and each slice had a distinct flavor. The salt-cured egg yolk on the Green Asparagus in particular was interesting—there wasn’t much, but the amount that was there added an impactful dimension to the flavor. My main critique is that the pizza was very salty. It definitely got to be too much after the first slice. I wondered if it was an off batch, but the cookies in the ice cream sandwich were also overwhelmingly salty (the house-made vanilla bean gelato was delicious, though!). I saw a review claiming the pizza to be too sweet, so maybe the feedback had been taken too far in the other direction. Regardless, 5/5 because it was a pleasant dinner overall, and service was very friendly.

Delicious pizza: airy crust, premium toppings, great pairings. Take out only. A bit hot and small inside. Didn’t know the 1/2 and full size pizzas were made to order so had to wait 20 minutes (thought was going to get the equivalent of the available slices on display).

Legitly the best Roman-style pizza I've ever had and some of the best pizza I've ever had in general! These thicc brick pizzas have that light crispy exterior with perfectly chewey dough inside. My two favorites here are the spicy sopressata and the prosciutto di parma. The toppings on these two masterpieces are completely dialed in and are super fresh, quality ingredients. I've had plenty of other pizzas of the same name/similar toppings, but the ones from here are at the peak. Sweet and savory —my favorite flavor combo, nailed in two unique ways with these pizzas. The roasted pepper harmonized with the meat and honey. The roasted figs melt in your mouth with each bite, and each bite —a blessing. Hallelujah! The staff here is so warm and kind as well. They were trying to get rid of bread at the end of the day and graciously offered us some of their roasted tomato focaccia, which we graciously accepted. It was perfect focaccia —light crisp like their pizzas, with nice bounce to the soft interior. Lastly, we tried the chocolate chip cookies here, and they were super solid. I'm a cookie snob, and I don't say that often. They have good old-fashioned quality cookies with the mandatory sea salt sprinkle. Delightful. We will definitely be back for our favorites and to discover more!

Checked out this new addition to the South End and it certainly did not disappoint. I ordered two slices for lunch, pepperoni and asparagus (was recommended) and they were both delicious. The fresh parm and herbs on the slices were a nice touch. I will be back soon to try the sandwiches and focaccia. Welcome to the neighborhood, Gary’s!

Google
Amazing pizza and customer service. The employees seem to enjoy working there and it definitely elevated the experience. The pizza is the best that I have had in a long time. Definitely worth a visit.

Google
Delicious, high quality pizza that uses fresh ingredients. They do half or full pies, which is great for mixing and matching. They also have great home-made cookies and icecream sandwiches

Google
Their deluxe toppings and amazing crust + great service are a solid five stars. Ordered the Prosciutto Di Parma, half-pie, the price was worth every quality bite. Welcome to the neighborhood, Gary’s Pizza!

Yelp
I will dream about the spring asparagus pizza. I assume it's seasonal and I already am sad about it disappearing from the menu. Perfect cheesy, gooey toppings with crispy cheese around the edges, fluffy yet crunchy base, salty richness from the egg yolks, nice snappy asparagus - this is what pizza dreams are made of. And this is coming from a thin crust girl! Service was so friendly and welcoming. My only complaint is that there's no seating, which is a me problem because I don't live close and wanted to experience the pizza goodness right away. Luckily there are places to sit outside if you walk a bit. Not great for the winter so I guess I'll just have to come a bunch of times in the summer.

Yelp
gary's pizza is the newest restaurant from the folks who run mistral and mooo, so i had relatively high hopes for this. i'm not sure what constitutes "roman" style pizza, but this is square pieces of pizza with various flavors. menu is quite extensive outside of pizza; they have gelato pints and various desserts to go, as well as salads. they carry a limited but interesting selection of sodas with some coke products and carry local mi nina chips. service was slammed and i would recommend to order ahead - between ordering and receiving pizza it was about 15-20 minutes. no place to sit- this is a grab and go spot. for the pizza: WOW! definitely worth the 6-7 bucks for a slice. the crust is chewy with a spring and has a crispy, crunchy bottom. got a sampler of flavors to see what all the fuss is about. pepperoni is good, but compared to the others, is just OK. spring asparagus was a show stopper - the salted egg yolk really tied the flavors of the pizza together and was a nice touch. spicy soppressata was amazing with the pepper and hot honey and was perfectly sweet and spicy. the fig one was good but i would have preferred a fig jam over a half fig - i ended up squeezing the fig over the pizza. the fig pizza was HEAVY on the gorgonzola (which i loved) but can see how that could be a deterrent to others. flavors are strong - come here for a great slice!

Yelp
" fresh & delicious " Place is clean and well furnished. Staff is friendly. Service is efficient. We got the margarita pizza . Portion was generous, ingredients tasted fresh . Sauce and cheese was good could have added a bit more cheese ; felt they trying to skimp a bit ; just add enough please don't be trying to skimp. It did taste super fresh though . The dough definitely tasted fresh as well . If they put a bit more cheese it would be a five star experience. I definitely will be back just will tell them to add more cheese , lol. The not having enough cheese left me traumatized, lol.

Yelp
This was good! It's a take out Roman style pizza place in the south end. I got the asparagus slide with cured salted egg yolk. It was yummy - it's a light slice and eats well. I think it could use a hit of salt or umami but it's a solid choice

Yelp
I tried this new place for lunch today and was really impressed. The Roman style pizza was delicious - especially the spring asparagus with cheese and egg yolk; a tasty, subtle blend of creamy, salty goodness. The store, itself, is clean and beautifully decorated and service was fast and efficient. They also have an array of non-pizza offerings, including house made breads (the focaccias looked really good!), sandwiches, and desserts. Looking forward to going back soon to try more of the menu!

Yelp
Phenomenal roman style pizza (airy light focaccia). The quality and freshness are a stand out. Love this pizza. Counter staff are super friendly. Great addition to the South End.

Yelp
Just had my first slice from Gary's and I'll definitely be back for more. I had the pepperoni slice and it was one of the most flavorful slices of pizza I've ever had. Plenty of pepperoni, nice crisp crust, really a pleasure to eat. Slices are a good size, 2 slices is more than enough for one person. Great new place, check it out!

Yelp
Not bad, not great, right down the middle. Focaccia style dough had a decent crunch on the ends, otherwise pretty doughy throughout. Got the spicy sop, the pepper was by far the best part, sauce and cheese felt like they were cutting corners.

John V.

Yelp
Five stars for concept, curation, and crisp. Definitions differ about what is Roman style pizza, with Gary's checking most of the boxes, though the dough, airy and textured, is thicker than textbook Roman style. But the dough and finish are elevated, so more of it is a blessing. Had a Margherita slice with sharp not sweet sauce; and a Spring Asparagus slice; $10 total and tasty. Excellent eggplant sandwich benefitting from the same bakery quality bread, in this case focaccia.

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood! Everything we tried was delicious! Especially loved the seasonal asparagus pizza which was unique and hearty. Definitely recommend the chocolate chip cookies! Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.
