Gasthaus Waltz

We had lunch at Gasthaus Waltz on a Sunday and had been wanting to try it after previously visiting their sister wine bar, Garbo. I was initially a bit surprised by a confirmation call about an hour after making our reservation for the next day, though I’m sure there are good reasons for it, and it ultimately adds to the personal experience. From the moment we arrived, we had a wonderful lunch experience. The service is incredibly kind, personal, and genuinely humorous, and we felt truly welcome throughout. The interior is cozy and inviting, offering a refined dining experience in an upscale, Wirtshaus-style setting that feels both relaxed and special. The food was excellent across the board, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. We especially appreciated how accommodating the kitchen and service were - one of us chose the lunch menu while the other ordered à la carte, which was handled effortlessly and without hesitation. That level of flexibility is quite unusual and very much appreciated. The wine list is outstanding, and even if you don’t want to commit to a full bottle, there are excellent by-the-glass options that pair beautifully with the food - some with exceptional value for money. We’ll definitely be back. One of the unpretentious stars of Munich’s restaurant scene!

Enjoyed our dinner at Gasthaus Waltz very much! The servers were very friendly and kind. Food was tasty. There were only a couple items from our dishes that were a bit too rich for our taste but that's just personal preference. Highly recommend the ice cream with pumpkin seed oil, it was a very unique and interesting combo

We had a 5 course menu (which takes around 2 hours). I was surprised that you can choose whatever you prefer (e.g. two mains, instead of soup and main course,…) which offers a lot of flexibility. The service was great and the restaurant doesn’t feel too packed, as there is space between tables. This place could have been on Vienna!

We had an amazing dinner experience here! They fit us in right at opening, and they still made it an extra special experience. All the food was extraordinary, wine list was superb, and espresso to finish it off was splendid. Highly recommend

This is a lovely place I liked the clean aesthetic ambiance. Menu done for a choice of having a 4 or 5 course set menu (you can choose from a selection of options). The food was great, good quality ingredients- some dishes were more overwhelming than others, but ultimately we found it was a good value for money in terms of food. Wine was also good we had a sav blanc, on the more expensive side for a white non-aged wine for my liking, but it was very nice. The service was very good - they all were knowledgeable, able to advise, many of the dishes were served at the table by pouring so a bit of a show was performed and all spoke English as well as German (we had a mixed table). The only area of improvement I’d suggest here would be the timing - idk how many times do they turn around the tables per evening, but a 2 hour window for 3 people who potentially want to have a 5 course meal is not enough. We had one of us running 12 mins late (cos Munich on a Friday evening at 18:00 duh), meanwhile I ordered drinks and asked about the menu when they came to ask for our food orders we all wanted 5 courses and they said we will not have the time for that … Now, eating at a place like this (mind I’m a generous spender when I go to a place I like the food at I’ll spend money but I also want to enjoy it) we should not be chased it’s really not a good customer experience. Ofc no one wants people to sit over 1 glass of wine for hours so I get that but we ate and drank properly - they extended our table reservation by some time so we can still have a Schnaps to finish up and enjoy our deserts, but just the notion of rushing us had not left the right feeling behind - so if you can fix the timing (or the Munich traffic -not sure what’s easier 😉) the experience will be elevated even more. Otherwise a nice place, I register on the Michelin gourmet list for a reason.

Such a great little restaurant! We dined outside and enjoyed 4 courses each + bread (at a set price & you get to choose what you have). The staff spoke English and were really friendly and helpful. They chose glasses of wine for us that complimented our food choices. Food-wise, we especially enjoyed the fried chicken and the pork schnitzel. The lemon and cherry deserts were also delightful. I fully recommend eating here if you’re in Munich!

The authentic Austrian cuisine was great. The people who work there are fantastic and gave fabulous recommendations. Book your reservations well ahead.

My wife and I had dinner here to celebrate our two year wedding anniversary. We are so happy we chose to celebrate at Gasthaus Waltz. Excellent food, wine selection and hospitality. We will definitely stop by again if we return to Munich.

Gasthaus Waltz is an Austrian-Inspired Alpine Restaurant in Munich, offering creative takes on traditional Austrian and Alpine cuisine. They offer a la carte options, but they also have a 4 course menu for € 69 and a 5 course menu for € 75. We opted to do their 4-course menu, since we wanted to try a few of their dishes. A highlight was the duck terrine appetizer as well as the trout entree with braised cucumbers and Veltliner foam and mashed potatoes. The staff here were absolutely delightful and honestly, I think the best service we had during our entire time in Germany.
