"The oldest inn in the Palatinate" has been around since 1160 – as it says on the façade. Given that the hosts are dedicated, the atmosphere is charming, and the cuisine is top notch, it's no surprise that it's popular with many (regular) guests – and it's best to book ahead. The restaurant is divided into different rooms, which creates a certain intimacy. Historical and modern details have been successfully combined, with eye-catching features such as wonderful old tiled stoves and a brick fountain. Regional cuisine is served in the form of a lovely à la carte selection, with Palatinate classics sometimes getting a modern makeover. Appetising dishes includeGrumbeersupp(hearty potato soup with pulled steamed dumplings) andSaumagen Roulette(a variation on the classic Palatinate stuffed pig's stomach). The selection of Palatinate wines is also appealing – and there is a wine bar too. The terrace in the inner courtyard is truly charming." - Michelin Inspector

It is hard to have a bad dining experience in Deidesheim. I just wasn’t expecting Zur Kanne to be so great. We were warmly welcomed into the restaurant. A beautifully renovated interior which is a mix of old and new, wood, stone and greys. Expenses were not spared for the heavy silverware and serving plates etc. The food was absolutely tasty. They serve traditional regional dishes, but in a way that demonstrates that the skills of the cook really matters. These typical dishes were well worth their cost. The service was kind and professional. The waiter kindly offered for me to taste two different wines by both the appetizer and the main meal before making my decision. That was much appreciated. The personnel were incredibly service oriented. When I asked where the restrooms were, they literally walked with me part of the way to point it out. Needless to say, the toilets were very clean. This will be my new favorite in Deidesheim and I can’t wait to take guests there for them to try these wonderful regional dishes! I almost forgot, it is also the type of restaurant where you are quite full after an appetizer and main.

Very nice restaurant offering delicious dishes. Very friendly and attentive personnel. Parking is a bit difficult but available in the area. Highly recommend this restaurant not only for excellent food but for their excellent service which was very much appreciated. Internet reservation was promptly confirmed and a reminder was sent the day of actual reservation.

Apparently the oldest restaurant in Rheinland-Pfalz, but it didn't feel like it inside. Everything was stylishly modern inside, but giving off a homely feel. Good range of traditional dishes, prepared and served well. Decent wine list, mostly local and a very good selection of Obstbrände! We had a jolly good time here.

I was very impressed by the food, which was excellent at a very fair price.

An amazing mix of traditional and modern food. Great interior design that makes it pass as both an upscale restaurant, and a midtown pub. Friendly service.

A perfect "Event". I ate the best Roasted Pork ("Schweinshaxe"). Service is top noch, Music is well-suited.

Yelp
I live in the US and visited this restaurant in February - im just now writing about it. That goes to show how I'm STILL thinking about my meal, mo the later. I was at a work conference in Town and we stopped here for dinner one night. I really can't say enough about the food here. I'll admit - I did not come to Germany expecting to find the best cuisine. Beer or Riesling maybe but not food. This place was amazing and totally changed my perception of German cuisine. I had the best pork chop of my life here, and that's not hyperbole - My entire life. It was cooked to perfection with a thick golden buttery crust seared onto it. It was as tender as a filet and practically melted in my mouth. Simply incredible. The thing I really can't stop thinking about, though, is the spread provided for the bread at the table. Instead of butter they had goose fat with caramelized onions in it. It was so tasty we went through 3 baskets of bread... It tasted like I was spreading Thanksgiving dinner on my bread. I didn't expect it but this was the highlight of my trip to Germany. The rest was pretty good as well but I just can't get over the artistry and skill that went into that meal. Next time I come into Waldorf for work I will drive the extra 45 minutes just to eat here again.
