For my tastes, when I am looking for comfort food, this is the place in the area. Michelin agrees. Each plate is hearty. The pasta is cooked correctly, al dente. The lamb is tender and not overly spiced or gammy. They provide astonishingly large portions, so for North Americans, two plates are sufficient. Chatty and kind service. They care. You feel at home. Bright and welcoming atmosphere. The most significant problem they have is that they are wildly popular for dinner. So, make reservations or arrive early. Otherwise, you may be turned away. I always sit at the bar and converse with the barista.
Update - based on tasting of multiple dishes, here are my recommendations:
* Richest pasta is carbonara (prima piatto)
* Most non-US protein dish is the lamb.
* The knock your socks off dessert is the lemon-mint sorbet. The gelato is very good, but it is not the sorbet.
* Senior Jefferson for the digestivo.
Regardless of your appearance, tell them you are George Clooney. It won't make a difference, but it can't hurt.
