"The dishes served here present a new take on old Salzburg recipes from a cookbook published in 1719! Located in the heart of the old town, the restaurant is incredibly cosy, thanks to its rustic light wood finishings and lovely vaulted ceiling. The friendly service adds to the charming atmosphere. The menu of Austrian classics naturally includesBackhendl(breaded fried chicken), Wiener schnitzel andTopfenschmarrn(shredded curd pancake). Tip: Book well in advance! The 700-year-old building also houses a chic little boutique hotel – you might be tempted to stay a little longer!" - Michelin Inspector

Had to give it a try as seen quite many good reviews regarding the restaurant. The beef tartar was indeed delicious. The only slight minus point is a rather strong seasoning, covering the original beefy taste. But pairing with the bread and butter it makes a perfect combo. From the memu, I saw a boiled rump and got quite intriqued, so we ordered that and a schnitzel. The schnitzel was fresh, with heavily buttered potatos. The rump was a bit disappointed. The rump, unexpectedly, was quite dry by itself. Though served with a bone marrow broth, it could not have rescued its dryness. It comes with 2 sauces, a apple raddish sauce and a creamy chives sauce. The chives sauce-rump combo was a miss, as the sauce does not go well with the brothy taste. The marrow broth already feels fatty, adding on the creamy sauce makes it too greasy. The apple raddish combo suprising works quite well, however, still could not cover the dryness. My partner quite like that riesling wine which I also agree, it is not as dry as I thought (I personally like a bit of sweetness in wine) We spent around 130 euros for 2 people and i believe there might be a better option for this price range thus a 3 star overall.

My wife and I enjoyed a superb meal at the delightful Gasthof Goldgasse. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and shown immediately to our table in the cozy dining room. Without a doubt, this is the restaurant to try traditional Austrian specialties. The dishes served are modern interpretations of recipes found in a cookbook from 1719 on display in the dining room! We began the meal with their excellent spelt bread, butter, Liptauer and smoked Austrian bacon. My wife then had an enormous and beautiful salad and I had a wonderful salmon trout appetizer. The high quality of the ingredients and the skilled preparation were evident in both dishes. To follow my wife had a copious serving of Baroque gnocchi and I had the perfectly prepared Tafelspitz with its tremendous accompaniments (bone marrow, creamed spinach, roasted potatoes, apple horseradish and chive sauce). Although we didn’t have room for dessert, we marvelled at the “Salzburger Nockerl” served to nearby guests. Our experience was made even better by the incredible service provided by our most professional and lovely waitress. We highly recommend Gasthof Goldgasse and would happily dine there again when we next return to spectacular Salzburg.

We stayed at Hotel Goldgasse and had our breakfasts, lunches, and dinners at Gasthof Goldgasse — every single meal was outstanding. From the beautifully presented breakfast spreads to delicious lunches and perfectly cooked dinners, the food here never missed a beat. The service was truly world-class, warm, and attentive without ever feeling rushed. The team made us feel right at home every day. And a must-try — their burgers! Easily some of the best we’ve ever had, packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. A cozy, charming spot in the heart of Salzburg — highly recommended whether you’re staying at the hotel or just visiting the old town.

Absolutely fantastic experience. The restaurant is attached to Hotel Goldgasse, where we were staying, so we decided to try it and I’m so glad we did. I love visiting Michelin restaurants that aren’t priced like the ones in the U.S., and this was a great find. We had an 8:15 reservation and were seated right away. The Wiener Schnitzel was the best I had in my two weeks in Austria, and my husband, who is Austrian, said it was the closest he’s ever had to his grandmother’s. Truly exceptional food. Service was good overall, though I was a little surprised they didn’t clear crumbs between courses. Still, the quality of the meal and the value were outstanding. Highly recommend

Google
We are from the U.S., (staying at the wonderful Hotel Goldgasse) and this is one of the most charming and exceptional restaurants we’ve had the pleasure of frequenting, anywhere in the world. It’s easy to see why they received a Michelin star. The food, atmosphere, presentation, staff, and service are absolutely stellar. Amin was our server and he truly made the experience, providing excellent recommendations and patiently answering our questions. My partner ordered the beef tenderloin, and I had the venison. We argued over who had the better dish! Both were perfectly cooked, flavorful, and tender. For dessert we had the blueberry pancake dish with sour cream ice cream, which was perfection. The atmosphere is warm, cozy, upscale casual. Could not recommend more highly if you are visiting Salzburg.

Google
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a great experience at Gasthof Goldgasse! We ordered the fried chicken and the burger, and both were delicious—the burger was juicy and flavorful, and the chicken was perfectly cooked and crispy. The dessert was also fantastic, a sweet way to end the meal. The restaurant was clean, including the bathrooms, and the staff were very friendly. A special thanks to the kind and helpful Asian lady who served us—she really made us feel welcome. Highly recommend!

Gasthof Goldgasse is a wonderful place right in the heart of Salzburg. It perfectly combines traditional charm with modern comfort. The food is excellent, carefully prepared, and genuinely high-quality. What truly stands out is the warm and helpful staff, who make the entire visit exceptionally pleasant. I can highly recommend it and would gladly come back again.

Had breakfast here as we stayed for 2 nights for the Christmas markets. Reception staff are amazing and very friendly. Thank you for the hospitality

Yelp
We have heard about this restaurant from medias and wanted to try out the 2018 Michelin star food. We ordered veal schnitzels with cucumber salad and fried chicken with potato salad. The food was good but certainly does not exceed our expectation due to it being overly priced. I tried their potato salad and it tasted quite unusual, sour with a distinctive order like wet trash. I had no choice but to ask the manager if this is how it should taste. She went back to the kitchen and came back saying this is how we serve our potato salad. She also quickly suggested to replace it with other salad if I like. I didn't. But I did not touch that potato salad anymore. For a Michelin star restaurant. I expected more and for 100 euro plus tip, I should be able to finish my entrée and side dish.

Yelp
We were strolling through Old Town and hungry. Saw this place on Yelp and decided to try it. Goldgasse is located inside Hotel Gasthof. Great service, ambiance, and food. We shared an entree and a dessert. The Backhendl or Austrian fried chicken breast was moist and delicious, with potato salad, cranberry sauce & horseradish sauce, with a squeeze of lemon. The presentation was beautiful! Also got the apricot pancakes which were sweet and tart, warm and melts in your mouth. Service was friendly with a smile. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Amazing service and beautiful restaurant. I had the best steak of my entire life here. There was a great wine selection too. Trying the Salzburg nockerl is a must!

Yelp
It was expensive for Austria and worth the money. We thoroughly enjoyed everything - from the friendly, helpful service, to the delicious lamb, to the nockrel for dessert (I call it the Total Recall, triple boob). Yay! This was so much fun!

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Be prepared, the portions are big. The staff is super friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
Quality food and good service. I would recommend. Well located in city center of Salzburg.

Yelp
The food was very good although on the pricey side. We had the schnitzel and fried chicken, both very well prepared, plus a bottle of wine which came to almost €80. A treaty lunch indeed! Very friendly service.

Yelp
Small and expensive menu. The prices are to be expected in downtown Salzburg. The service was very good and professional. The only thing that was really disappointing was the menu. I did expect a couple more iconic Austrian dishes besides the Wiener Schnitzel.

Yelp
Fantastic traditional goulash and schnitzel (we were told it was the best in Salzburg). A warm and cozy reprieve on a cold and rainy day.

Yelp
Very good service and fantastic food. Well deserve the price. These specialties really made my day here

Yelp
This darling is located in the narrow streets of the Goldgasse district, just a short walk from the Residence. Situated at the base of the Hotel Goldgasse, in the morning, they offer breakfast, but the real charm emerges in the evening when the glow of the lamps beckon you delightfully from the street into its charming and cozy interior. It has a charming rustic feel that feels a little upscale at the same time. The menu is not extensive, but the items they have, they execute well. The fried chicken, is not like the traditional fried chicken that we Americans have come to love, but more of a wiener schnitzel type execution, just with chicken. So if you're ready to bust out some hot sauce and a side of coleslaw, hold back there cowboy. This dish is a bit more elegant and mighty tasty. If you get in early enough (before 5:30pm), they sometimes still have the beef goulash served with delicious bread, which I would recommend on colder days. I don't think I ever saw more than 2-3 parties dining at the same time while we were there (early March), but this may change some during summer months. If you're staying at the hotel upstairs and feeling lazy, this place is a great solution.

Yelp
Fantastic Traditional Austrian dishes and great selection of Prosecco and Wine to pair. Be sure to order the Salzburger Nockerl for desert. Next time I'm in Salzburg I'd like to check out the hotel too as it looks super cozy and stylish.

Yelp
Restaurant: Great location and a lovely patio. Food was from omg great to hmm ok. Service needs improvement. You wait indefinitely for the check. Our waiter never showed up after bringing the dinner. The hotel above the restaurant is not worth it. It presents itself to be something it's not...

Yelp
Unfortunately the worst service we encountered in Austria. Unprofessional and rude! Otherwise the food is decent and the restaurant is located in a quaint little side street.

Yelp
I should have waited for more reviews on this restaurant before trying it out. The menu is kind of incorrect and service is rude. Having tried a few wiener restaurants in wien, the food does not stand out either. It is hard to give more than 2 stars.
