"Set in the centre of this Black Forest village, this attractive restaurant dating back to 1748 is popular for its robust cuisine with classic foundations and plenty of flavour – the sauces are also fantastic! This is all testament to the skill of owner Thomas Zimmermann, who uses select ingredients in his dishes. The atmosphere, too, is just right, thanks to the lovely decor and the exceedingly friendly, attentive hostess. Tip: There are also some individually designed, upscale guestrooms for overnight stays." - Michelin Inspector

My wife and I stayed here for two nights, after Christmas but before NYE. Like most older gasthofs, there is no elevator. So if you have heavy bags, you'll be porting them upstairs! Our room and bathroom were very clean and the room was average in size. Our window overlooked the medieval town wall, which we later explored.||The hotel once had it's own restaurant and pub, and the kitchen (from what I could see) looked professional. Now, however, they do not serve drinks or meals except for the complimentary morning breakfast. There is plenty of seating and ambiance, though, if you wanted to have a large group function.||The town of Gengenbach is a real gem, with an alstadt to explore complete with walls and towers. Very few empty shops, and there are at least 5 or 6 restaurants within walking distance. There are hiking trails all around, and one takes you to a great chapel on a hill that overlooks the town. ||We made a note to return to Gengenbach earlier next time, as they have a an amazing Christmas market. It includes an entire building that's painted as an Advent calendar.

This is a great hotel for the price, and its main benefit is the LOCATION. It's literally right around the corner from the gate to the altstadt (oldtown). Actually, our window looked out at the town wall, about 10' away! The rooms were furnished nicely, with a comfortable bed, and were very clean. The size of the room and bathroom were average. The television got many channels and the wifi was fast enough for our needs. The hostess (from Lithuania) was very helpful with directions. Hirsch appears to have been much grander in the past. It has a nice bar with keg taps, and a great seating area with crafted wooden tables/chairs. The dining room is also impressive. Sadly, they no longer serve food/drinks here (although the kitchen looks impressive from the front desk), and the dining room is only used for breakfast. I asked if it was open seasonally (we were there before New Year's), and was told no. With a little effort, the owners could elevate this hotel to four stars (and charge more). Open the bar, and serve (at least) snacks from the kitchen. They should also have a website, allowing guests to view rooms/amenities.

Small hotel in prime location. Clean fresh good sized room with fridge, tea kettle. Lots of lighting. Bathroom spotless. Nice breakfast for a small hotel, fresh boiled eggs, warm bread, and other standard German offerings. Restaurant closed for other meals. Pleasant hostess for checkin and breakfast. Note: breakfast is 8am to 10:30. Stairs to rooms, no lift. Short hike to quaint chapel on the hill above the hotel ( easy paved path or steep gravel track available)

We stayed here for one night on 13.6.23 and found it to be good value. The owner was friendly and helpful. Storing our two bicycles safely inside was not a problem. Our bedroom with ensuite had recently been renovated. It was spotlessly clean and specious. The beds were comfy and we were able to have a good night's sleep. The bottle of sparkling water in the bedroom was a nice touch. The buffet breakfast was excellent with cereals, boiled eggs, bread and a range of meats, cheeses and yogurts available. We would happily stay here again.

Really spacious room. We had a small dining table, sofa and a large bed in our room. Well lit and comfy room. Staff was really nice as well. Gengenbach centre is a 5 min walk from the hotel. And we loved the breakfast! Disliked · we checked in at 9 pm and it wasn't really easy to figure out the building . There wasn't much lighting near the entrance. But the host did help us out over the phone.

We stayed for a week and enjoyed a lot of their room and breakfast every morning. The room is spacious and clear, the heater works unexpectedly well and makes the room warm and comfortable. The staff is also friendly and always so helpful. Except the WiFi signal was a bit unstable, everything is good! Highly Recommended!

Truly enjoyed a wonderful visit here. The breakfast was very good. The owner was friendly and worked hard every morning to ensure everything met our expectation. They made eggs cooked to order and even had salmon. Parking was not included (5€ per day) but that was fine. The room was a good size and very clean, comfortable, and quiet.

We stayed for two nights at this beautiful bed and breakfast place a ten minutes walk away from the railway station. Angelica the owner came to pick us up from the station which was a wonderful gesture and deeply appreciated, specially for foreigners not knowing the local language. We got a lovely room facing the street with flowers peeping into the room from windows. The staff are extending polite and welcoming to all visitors. Breakfast is included in the package. A good spread. The restaurant serves delicious cuisine.
