My wife and I stayed here for two nights, after Christmas but before NYE. Like most older gasthofs, there is no elevator. So if you have heavy bags, you'll be porting them upstairs! Our room and bathroom were very clean and the room was average in size. Our window overlooked the medieval town wall, which we later explored.||The hotel once had it's own restaurant and pub, and the kitchen (from what I could see) looked professional. Now, however, they do not serve drinks or meals except for the complimentary morning breakfast. There is plenty of seating and ambiance, though, if you wanted to have a large group function.||The town of Gengenbach is a real gem, with an alstadt to explore complete with walls and towers. Very few empty shops, and there are at least 5 or 6 restaurants within walking distance. There are hiking trails all around, and one takes you to a great chapel on a hill that overlooks the town. ||We made a note to return to Gengenbach earlier next time, as they have a an amazing Christmas market. It includes an entire building that's painted as an Advent calendar.
