We were a party of three celebrating my friend's bday. Even though we had a booth near the entrance and facing the bar, it felt cozy and intimate. I was initially concerned, then impressed.
Everything we had was delicious, both the fish and meat. The fish was flavorfully balanced, wonderfully meaty, and still moist. The meat was beautifully cooked, and had an impressively wonderful softness to it. The kitchen crew is skilled, and must have amazing choreography. I am impressed.
The drinks and dessert were also skillful. I have a hard time deciding in an environment of so much new-to-me, including our host. So I went with the drink the host liked. Initially I thought description sounds close enough. On sipping, I thought, what is this deliciously detailed drink?
I'm probably not fair about the dessert, because it was eye-opening like everything else. So, I was just, "Of course, Gatsby's! Thank you! Another skilled course!" But the details were deeper than that thought reaction.
Although our sides might seem odd to the fish, I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Each item had good textures to flavors. I was also impressed with our oyster appetizer. The thought of cheese on oysters just reminds me I'm next door to Louisiana. That might not be a fair correlation. So I was surprised after the first oyster I wanted a second. I looked at it curiously. The cheese, the way it was shaved, and the amount of distribution seems just right.
This is a lovely, even magical experience for long friends, and new-to-each-other people. I haven't seen my friend since the pandemic, and have been wanting to meet his friend for awhile. For me this Gatsby's kept the wondrous magic in tact, rather than make it fall apart. I walked away so happy, contented, and wondrous.
The only ebbing of that was the short staffed evening became evident in the bday celebrant's drink being late twice. Hence being placed nearest to the bar/activity was a best call when your waitperson is also bartending. Every part of of the dining experience was very well-executed in flavors and textures, and ameliorating the late arrival of the bday celebrant's cocktail. Gotta tell my foodie brothers and their discerning wives.
Note: Edible Flower Eaters: Here there is one flower that should stay in your drink glass, not popped into your mouth! Beware! xD
