Gaya - Cuisine de Bords de Mer

"Part of La Grande Terrasse hotel, not far from Les Boucholeurs, this restaurant gives seafood pride of place. The menu designed by Pierre Gagnaire comprises generous dishes with finely crafted jus, sauces and creams. The wine list boasts some 700 labels. Tuck into your meal in a cosy interior with a splendid view of the ocean." - Michelin Inspector

Excellent food, especially the desserts. The frozen pudding was probably my favorite. Lots of fish, as expected in a seaside town, and that was all great too. Service was awesome, all the servers were amazingly friendly. Excellent wine selection as well (naturally) and just an excellent experience all around.

Disappointing Experience at Restaurant GAYA — Châtelaillon Plage We had high expectations for our dining experience at Restaurant GAYA in Châtelaillon-Plage, especially given its cozy atmosphere and stunning views of the bay. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, seating around 30 guests, with a welcoming vibe and attentive staff. The service team was kind and professional, and we were made to feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. Unfortunately, our experience quickly soured due to the combination of extremely slow service and disappointing food. We arrived at 20h30, were escorted to our table, and immediately presented with the food menus. However, after ordering, we had to wait an unreasonably long time for the wine menu — about 30 minutes, despite asking for it more than once. When it finally arrived, it took another 10 minutes to receive our wine. At that point, we had already consumed all of the amuses bouches (nibbles) provided. Staying on the topic of service, we opted for the 5-course tasting menu, and after over 3 hours of dining, we still hadn’t finished! It became clear that the kitchen was far too slow, with the entire evening stretching on into the late hours. By midnight, my wife had to leave before the meal was completed due to the time. I’ve never spent so long at a dinner table. As for the food, we were disappointed by the overcomplicated dishes. While I believe in letting high-quality ingredients speak for themselves — such as lobster, which is a luxury product in its own right — GAYA’s approach involved strange combinations, emulsions, and sauces that detracted from the natural taste of the ingredients. The food simply didn’t live up to the standard we were expecting. In conclusion, GAYA’s food was overly complicated and lacked the natural quality we had hoped for. The service, though very kind, was far too slow, which resulted in a generally disappointing experience. While the staff did their best and were wonderful, there was no way they could compensate for the letdown that was, unfortunately, a far cry from the high expectations we had. The restaurant charges Michelin Star prices, but unless there's a dramatic rethink in both the kitchen and overall experience, it will never deserve or win one. The long service times, overly complicated dishes, and overall lack of refinement made it clear that it was a far cry from what we anticipated.

Welcoming, friendly staff and service! Delicious food too. We’ve been here twice during our stay at hotel La Grand Terrace. Each time was great experience!

Pretty good but definitely overrated. Nothing about Pierre Gagnaire here. Don't get me wrong, it's good, but it's expensive. The service is also a bit clumsy and expeditive. Won't do it again.

Excellent experience in this intimate restaurant facing the sea. We were impressed by every aspect of this restaurant. The food was beautifully presented with amazing flavors and perfect portions. The service was impecable. Yes, it is expensive but this level of dining comes at a cost.

The place looks very nice and modern and the staff makes you feel very comfortable. We were there for dinner and the view of the ocean with the sunset was stunning. All food we tried was delicious from starters to desserts. However I recommend you ask some details of what you order to avoid any disappointment because the names can be confusing. The only bad thing to report was about the service. They confused who ordered what twice and forgot to bring the drink menu to one of us. But overall it was a very pleasant experience.

We came here twice and unfortunately both experiences were very poor. The first time they took 40 minutes to bring us our drinks, and the second time we called and asked for a table for 7pm and when we arrived we were rudely told there was nothing for us. Hostesses were rude and unhelpful. Disappointing that a beautiful location has such sub par service. Do not come here.

Expensive, but stunning location and excellent food and service.
