The 19 Best Restaurants In Borough Market

"Don’t let the weather put you off—the ice cream at Gelateria 3BIS tastes just as good in the rain as it does in the sunshine. The stracciatella and hazelnut flavours are our favourites, and the answer should be “yes” if they ask if you’d like some chocolate sauce. While it’s got tables inside, wandering around the market with one of these is a pleasure, especially if you’re about when the crowds thin a little." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, daisy meager, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Borough Market’s Best Restaurants and Opening Times, Explained | Eater London

"Greedy Goat is excellent and different and very suitable for the lactose intolerant who can’t give up ice cream. But for the trad Italian gelato experience, head to 3Bis, where the move is to look for the most Italian sounding thing on the menu. Pistachio, dark chocolate, and sour cherry and ricotta are the flavours to go by." - Ed Smith

Google
Definitely try this gem of a gelateria! It is has delicious flavours, seating inside, different types of ice cream cones and lovely staff. I had the a scoop of vegan pistachio and a scoop of vegan dark chocolate ! They were both divine!

Google
Tried the lemon and mango gelato and they were both amazing! Super fresh and full of flavor. Definitely coming back for more! UPDATE (June 2025): We keep coming back for more, that’s how good it is. The gelato is always smooth, flavourful, and perfectly creamy. Staff are quick and polite even when it’s busy. The store has a fun, cozy vibe and a great selection of flavours (including some excellent sorbets). The little chocolate drop at the bottom is a nice touch too. Definitely a regular stop for us whenever we’re in Borough Market.

Google
Vanilla and lemon gelato were smooth, refreshing, and perfectly balanced—not too sweet. Clean stall with good presentation. Staffs could be a bit friendlier to non-native speaker like me, but overall a great stop for quality gelato in Borough Market.

Google
We had an amazing visit to 3Bis Gelateria at Borough Market. Their café and dark chocolate ice creams were absolutely delicious—rich, smooth, and bursting with deep, indulgent flavors. The café ice cream had the perfect balance of sweetness and bold coffee notes, while the dark chocolate was luxuriously intense and velvety. The texture of both was incredibly creamy, making each spoonful a delight. We’ll definitely be back for more!

Remembering THE best gelato - mascarpone & fig 😋 (hope it’s still available). Super crepes and coffee for the family. Great friendly staff. Must return soon.

If you're craving the best gelato in London, 3 Bis Gelatoria is a must-visit. With an incredible selection of flavors from classic pistachio to unique Dubai Chocolate. Must try sorbet options as well. each scoop is rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor. The texture is perfectly smooth and light, melting in your mouth with every bite. The friendly staff and cozy atmosphere make it the perfect spot for a sweet treat after a day out. Highly recommend!

Google
Don't recommend the hot chocolate (as long as you want a true thick Italian chocolate, not a powder based typical British runny cacao drink..). Advertising it as a "thick Italian chocolate" is very misleading. When I asked why it's so runny, they said they can make me another one, saying they only have the same powder, and they can just add more of it. The replacement version had simply more powder but it didn't taste like quality thick hot chocolate as you can taste in Europe. Honestly, I don't know why Britain is unable to make a proper thick hot chocolate, I should probably give up on finding one here. I haven't tried their ice cream though, maybe it's better...

Yelp
A good finish to a nice evening After coming off large Fish & Chip meals, we were still in the mood for a cool dessert and found Gelateria 3bis. Yelp is handy when travelling on vacation, even across the pond. The setup at Gelateria is you decide how many flavors you want with slightly increasing prices, and you get the same amount of gelato whether you do one or two flavors. At least that's what it looked like to us. I got 1 flavor, their Salted Caramel. My gelato definitely lived up to its name, I noticed quite a lot of caramel and I could even make out some saltiness. I don't often find gelato this good back home. The staff that took our order and money and scooped out the gelato were really helpful and upbeat. They have a couple of large tables inside and more outside. We sat inside and enjoyed our treats. I did get to sample their dark chocolate and it had a heavy dark chocolate flavor, not too sweet.

Yelp
We got ice cream here after spending the day at the food market. The ice cream was great and creamy. The cone was on its own something special. A great little place for desert. PS. Going on diet when I finish my vacation (haha)

Yelp
We came back twice in two days! It's next to the Borough's Market. After grabbing lunch we head over to Gelateria 3bis. Grandkids especially enjoyed the different offerings. There are alternatives to gelato if you prefer. Essentially no seats inside so it's mostly order and eat on the go. There's a couple of chairs outside but will almost always be occupied.

Yelp
I was in search of coffee as I needed a pick me up to get me through the rest of day. I had initially bookmarked a popular coffee shop at the Borough Market just down the way, but after perusing their menu, nothing really piqued my interest. Around the corner, this gelateria caught my eye and I saw that they had coffee, gelato, frozen yogurt, crepes, milkshakes AND a coffee shake on the menu. SOLD! Coffee shake it was. While waiting in line, I noticed they also had little chocoshots, cantucci, and other baked goods available. It took all my willpower to stay the course and just get my shake. For £5.50, this coffee shake tasted pretty good. It was more ice cream than anything, so it definitely didn't deliver in the caffeine arena, but certainly delivered the calories. It was tasty nonetheless and helped cool me down on a hot day. If you're hankering for some sweets, especially gelato, this is the spot if you want a wide range of options to satisfy those sweet cravings.

Yelp
This is probably the most authentic gelato I've had outside of Italy. So cream and so fresh. From the first bite I was so incredibly impressed. I'm going to take everyone I know here now.

Yelp
Calling all gelato lovers! 3bis is located in the Borough Market and their gelato (as well as service) is fantastic! I got whatever the two best, recommended flavors were: Mascarpone with figs and the Hazelnut flavor. There are so many options to choose from about how you want to eat them and I chose the cone option, which is v unusual of me considering I almost always get the cup with a cone on top ;) anywhoo~ mine came with their signature waffle crisp on top, and I even got to try their complimentary chocolate cannoli dessert ;) double yummm
google avatar

Yelp
Super sweet gelato, not the best around but good enough to tide you over if you are hankering for dessert.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious gelato & crepes. Smooth texture & great flavors. Not pictured was the gelato & Nutella crepe that I'll get next time. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Went to the location on portobello road. I would've given this place 4 stars because the ice cream was actually really delicious but the food handling/sanitation was not particularly up to my standards: - didn't wear gloves (all of the employees were touching literally everything from the sink to the cones, and it was pretty gross). - used the same scooper when changing flavors (and then just threw it into the sink, which of course made it seem like they don't even properly take care of their utensils aka wash/rinse them). I'm not even a crazy germ freak and it got pretty gross to me. I could just feel all the germs stacking on top of each other. Of course that didn't stop me from eating the ice cream (because I'm an ice cream feen) and again, it was really good - it's just too bad their service is gross.

Yelp
This gelato shop is nestled against the edge of the Borough Market. It offers about 20 flavours of gelato at any given day and the gelato is of extremely high quality, extremely smooth, and very flavorful. They do have some seating areas and also some non gelato options. Let's not kid ourselves you should come here for the ice cream. I mean gelato. Across two visits (visited in 2017 as well) every flavor I've tried (6) has been excellent. I particularly enjoyed their mango flavor.

Yelp
A solid gelato joint that is conveniently located, with a mostly Italian staff, and good product. I'd recommend this as a stop for anyone that's near by. I wouldn't go out of my way for it though. Don't expect to rival the places in Italy but as far as London is concerned, this might be one of the best.
google avatar

Angela W.

Yelp
Delicious gelato with good service. We all got chocoshots which were awesome. Lots of variety so there's an option for everyone.
google avatar

Yelp
Gelato. Creamy rich delicious gelato. So many choices!!!! Yes, this place is really as good as the hype. The pistachio is seriously the best I've ever had. The chocolate was divine and so heavenly. When you walk in, you pay for the size cup that you want...which is a little different. Then you can sample as many flavors as you'd like before finally settling on your choice. Pretty amazing concept and a great way to try a lot of different flavors. Some people were a bit obnoxious in their tastings, but whatever. It's all about the experience!!
google avatar

Bret S.

Yelp
There are some good gelato joints in London, and this might be the best. All the employees were speaking Italian. I was there about 11:15 am and all the other customers were Italians drinking Italian coffee, so after my gelato I also sampled the delicious espresso. As noted by others, the gelato is not frozen solid. It was melting, gooey, and incredibly tasty. It comes served with a wafer thin cookie. The service was very friendly, but a little slow. If you show up at the wrong time, in a line with folks ordering shakes instead of just gelato, you might (like me) be waiting a while. Otherwise, highly recommend!

Yelp
Top Gelato place I've ever been too! The staff was friendly and happy to help. I tried three flavors before deciding on what to get. The gelato was great consistency and my tastebuds were happy. The shop is located just outside of Borough Market, a great place to stop after eating some good street food. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Beware the fake sugar cones! As far as frozen treats go, this place is just ok. Some of their stuff is ice cream/gelato and some is sorbet. I wish I had known because you can't see the product, only the flavors. I ended up with a rather unappetizing concotion of sorbet and ice cream (the textures just didn't work well together). I'm addition,.their portioning seemed to be all over the map. I swear my cone was half the size of the one my son ordered (both two scoop cones). Then the cone, which looked like a sugar cone, was in fact a cake cone. Honestly, that should be an arrestable offense, what a tease.

Teri A.

Yelp
Really good gelato. Great service from the counter attendant who helped us select our flavors. We came back twice during our stay.
google avatar

Hannah F.

Yelp
You should come here. It probably a good idea. This is a magical shop where chocolate flows like water And the gelato is the perfect, soft, consistency, and they let you sample as many flavors as you want without judgement or shame. You're truly free to flourish. Eton mess was the perfect mixture of fruity and creamy, chocolate was decadent and delicious, everything we sampled was excellent. We were delighted when your cones were first filled with chocolate from a running tap (where do I get one?) and made the bottom of the cone something to look forward to. Not the cheapest ever (3.70 for a 2-flavor small), but worth it. And trust me, because I don't say that about overpriced things.

Yelp
Dropped by for a gelato on a boiling hot day after initially waiting at the nearby branch of Four Winters. After tasting the sickly sweet mascarpone & figs which turned out to consist of caramelised figs I decided to opt for what I thought would be safe choices of mango & coconut. Sadly both these flavours were again overly sweet, such that I had to leave most of the medium size cup unfinished. A waste of £4.70 or however much it was, I cannot recall the exact amount as they only accepted cash payments on the day I went. I guess I should have been more patient and waited in line at Four winters, at least they seemed to have more interesting flavour combinations there and ice creams are made to order!

Yelp
Gelateria 3bis is a good way to finish off a trip to the Borough Market. I got an Affogato Chocoshot. It is a small cone with chocolate on the inside. You get 2 flavors of gelato and they then pour fresh espresso over the top. It was pretty good but I wasn't really sure how to eat it or drink it? The cone was too hard to break with the spoon so I assumed I was supposed to bite it but you could only get to the cone once you had eaten all the ice cream and espresso but by then the cone started to get a little soggy. I liked the idea of it but the execution felt clumsy. Though, I'm totally open to the fact that it may have been user error. Nevertheless, the gelato itself, the most important part, was deliciously creamy. I got the Hazelnut and Cookie flavors and both were equally good. The service was good as the staff patiently explained the flavors and the different options. Definitely worth a visit if you need a sweet treat.

Yelp
All I can say is that Gelateria 3Bis has amicable service and gelato that makes my heart sing and my arteries cry. One thing that caught me off guard was the way you order. First you pay for the gelato at the register. Then you go and try the different gelato, which is different from most gelaterias I've been to. Perhaps it's a British thing, since this is the first gelateria ive been to in England. The gelato is on par with the gelato I had in Italy. They even add a crisp little waffle to your order, which is cute. The atmosphere is very casual and it's wide open to the streets :) It's a bit pricey for what you get imo
google avatar

David R.

Yelp
Nice location, nice coffee bad cake I didn't try their gelato because I felt something warm but I am sure it is better than the cake which was old and stale. Coffee was nice as the service though
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Fine Ice Cream place. I had a cone with Mascarpone and Figs (very tasty) and Mango (average, it didn't appear to be made with fresh fruits) which was fine but for GBP 3.90 was a little pricey. Service is quick and friendly although you may stay in line for a while on a warm day.
google avatar

Sunil R.

Yelp
Was playing tourist on a hot day and decided to indulge. The hazelnut affogato was superb.
google avatar

Ben M.

Yelp
Great place for dessert and a rest after walking around the Borough Market. It's just outside away from the crowd. The place is nice and quite after being in a large crowd, you can rest your feet and kick back. The Espresso is great. Amazing selection of treats, omg....I wish I could eat dairy. Make sure you take a look at the selection of pops and sandwiches they have along the back wall in the freezer. I think they have a couple non diary options. The staff is friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
GREAT GELATERIA! The straight up gelato is perfectly yummy. However, for my money, the real treat is the homemade "icecream bars" made of their homemade gelato, and dipped in their homemade coatings. Only one is the standard "chocolate coating on white icecream" and the choices get pretty exotic. However, the chocolate coated bar with simple milk flavored ice cream in the middle is a die and go to heaven item. The best standard ice-cream pop I have had - one which blows away the Dove Bars and Haagen Daz bars that I usually dote on. They also serve a wicked Italian espresso. There is lots and lots of good coffee in London - but their coffee holds its own nicely even in this league. My accompanist has to live dairy free which usually means no gelato for her. There were four dairy free gelatos (not sorbets - bona fide gelatos) - and she loved the two flavors she got - banana and raspberry. Another small plus - BIG tables. I have come to despise going to other ice cream parlors and sitting on uncomfortable wrought iron chairs on a circular table barely the size of a personal pizza. Two bowls of ice cream and two cups of coffee or glasses of water, and there is no room even for the spoons. Here people sit at huge communal tables with nice long benches. You can actually relax and eat your ice cream without pretending you are riding a unicycle. Overall - a top notch place!
google avatar

Ran T.

Yelp
This is probably the best gelato I have ever had. I don't know if the gelato I had in the US is even authentic. This is the real deal. We got hazelnut and pistachio, with chocolate sauce, of course. They are so nutty and creamy. I think the best part is the cone. It has so much flavor by itself and is the perfect combination with the gelato.
google avatar

Phil T.

Yelp
I'm a glutton for ice cream and this place sells some of the best gelato I've ever had. Have them put some of their chocolate sauce at the bottom of your cone; it's to die for.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Hello gelato shop with chocolate running on tap, yes I will come in and feast on your wears. Silky smooth gelato piled into a cone, and the kicker - its not frozen solid, its served at that point where its not frozen and not quite melting but some delicious purgatory in-between. located just down a side street, its the perfect hideaway from mid market shopping. with ample seating inside and out you can sit and relax with coffee and one of the gorgeous looking cakes, or take your cone and go for a little stroll in the sunshine down by the riverbank. The retail nerd in me was excited by the simple order and pay system. First you pick how much you want and then your flavours. makes the purchasing experience a fast and happy one. It was so good, that i may have accidentally stopped in for a second cone on my way back.
google avatar

Priya P.

Yelp
Had to stop for gelato during our visit to borough market. Absolutely delicious - samples the coconut and mango. Ended up ordering a small with 3 flavors - coconut, straciatella and hazelnut. Can't decide which one was my favorite! So good, def recommend to all ice cream lovers!!!
google avatar

Katherine C.

Yelp
The best gelato we have ever had. The pistachio is just amazing! And the lemon, strawberry, and raspberry are amazing! Came here two nights in a row.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
The ice cream looked nice but the portion was extremely small and the ice cream had very little taste. The flavors somehow seemed very artificial. Wouldn't recommend it.
google avatar

Judy L.

Yelp
This is a cute coffee shop with friendly staff located inside Borough Market, they sell really good gelato and latte here. Give it a try if you're around the area!
google avatar

Elizabeth W.

Yelp
Ach! I was so disappointed with this place. £4.50 for 2 small scoops of ice cream in a cone is just bloody ridiculous. I've been to a few recently in Soho that are similar in price but they are GENEROUS and really you end up with half a tub of ice cream! + the ice cream wasn't alllll that. There are about 10 different flavours - standard fruits, chocolate, caramel etc. My bf got a scoop of peanut butter and a scoop of chocolate; peanut butter was a bit bland but the chocolate was pretty good. Service was slow and rude. The only reason they didn't get 2* was because they have liquid chocolate on tap which they pop in the bottom of your cone - cute!
google avatar

Lauren V.

Yelp
Not a stall, but an established store front right next to Monmouth Coffee. They have about 10 flavors to choose from and its fresh made daily with top quality ingredients. I'm not a gelato aficionado so I'll just say that it's good, and definitely get the chocolate sauce. IT COMES OUT OF A TAP. Seriously, they have a faucet that just streams delicious liquid chocolate, that they dip your cup or cone under, then put the gelato on top. Amazing They have indoor seating and a few stools outside.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Holy hell, my husband had amazing gelato. I've had gelato everywhere including Rome, and the mascarpone and fig has to be hands down, one the most rich flavors ever. I had the coconut gelato pop, coated with dark chocolate and it was equally phenomenal. This place will be on our to-go list when we're in Borough Market again.
google avatar

Devon B.

Yelp
BEST GELATO IN LONDON. I went here everyday when I was in London. I also tried several other gelato places in London and this was by far the BEST.
google avatar

Davide D.

Yelp
Italian guy here. Their gelato is really good, seriously. I mean: it's one of the best gelato in Rimini (where they come from), and it's amazing here in London. One note: their staff sometimes isn't on the same level of their gelato. They should improve on their courtesy and should smile a lot more.
google avatar

Ricardo O.

Yelp
If you find yourself walking around in Borough Market on a sunny afternoon, do yourself a favor and get a delicious (slightly overpriced) ice-cream that will make your taste buds go crazy! I tried a small cone with peach flavor and it was absolutely spot on - ingredients were clearly fresh, the scoops were big and they added the customary extra cookie on the top. Light, refreshing and perfect to wrap up a Boston Sausage meal. My girlfriend had one with a green tea scoop; this is a human being who has tried green tea as a flavor in all possible combinations (including pretzels) so when she says "this is the best green tea ice-cream I've ever tried in London", you know she means business. They also have a take away option, where you can just fill in a plastic box - I am not sure how much (or what) goes into that but might be worth a try. Will definitely come back for more.
google avatar

Yelp
Gelateria 3bis is the centre of a trio of milky deliciousness in Borough Market. Walk the right way up Park Street and you can lunch at Neal's Yard (what's wrong with a lunch of cheese tasting?), dessert at 3bis, and coffee at Monmouth. I have been twice now and had the pistachio and nocciola (hazelnut) flavours. They were both fantastic. Creamy but, light, refreshing and not over sweet. The pistachio was a beautiful pale green with small nibs of nut studding the ice cream. You know its good when it is not fluro green and in this case it is much much better than good. I have only had the small ice-cream in a cone. For this, you pay £3 and you get a good waffle cone, an optional slug of chocolate sauce in the bottom of the cone, and a really generous scoop of one or two flavours of gelato. I don't think you would ever need a larger portion - but I'm sure some people will think I'm wrong! There is a great variety of flavours including all the Italian classics, e.g. fior de latte, straciatella as well as a great variety of sorbets and fruit flavours. If you want something a little more exotic, they do an ice-cream sandwich with 3 balls of ice-cream in a brioche bun! My only slight hesitation in recommending it is that it is a small shop and can easily feel a little crazy with customers having serious difficulty deciding on which of the incredible flavours they are going to have. But, hang in there, the service is great and the gelato is better.

Yelp
This place is amazing. I'm so glad to have found the name of it so I can make sure to recommend it to anyone I know who might possibly pass by. It's on a side street jutting off from Borough Market, across from a pub, but don't even consider overlooking this gem! My sister (whose flat is right by the market) took me to grab frozen yogurt there and it was amazing. My eyes widened at the sight of the fountain of chocolate they have behind the counter. When you get fro-yo, ask them to put a little bit of that chocolate at the bottom of your cup - you won't regret it! I normally really dislike frozen yogurt, but this stuff was pure magic. I can't wait to go back sometime this week and try their gelato. It looks even better. My sister and I sampled the peanut butter and I was impressed. I'm a real sucker for hazelnut, so after the first impression I've gotten, I can only imagine it gets better from here.

Yelp
Tidy, tasty and - most importantly - open on weekends, Gelateria 3bis is my new favorite gelato joint in SE1. Pistachio isn't easy but Gelateria executes this grown up flavor oh so well. Pair that up with a coffee next door to cap off your Borough Market visit.
google avatar

Rebecca L.

Yelp
I had a delicious affogato here, it was 98% ice cream and 2% coffee but still very good!
google avatar

Maciek D.

Yelp
Walking along the south bank on a hot summer day I decided to go on a hunt for some frozen delight. Google suggested this place as the "best ice cream near me" and I am really glad I took the recommendation. A combination of stracciatella, kinder bueno and chocolate was extremaly satisfying. Wonderfully creamy stracciatella and chewy chocolate were followed by abchocolate sauce which was poured on the bottom of my cone. This wonderful, dense finish with a touch of hazelnut is unforgettable - be sure to ask for a pour from their amazing chocolate tap!
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome selection of Gelato, it being a cold day however I decide to try their Italian Tiramisu, just ace! Along with a single espresso! Friendly staff and comfortable interior makes 3BIS a nice change from the chaos that is Monmouth around the corner!

Qype User (lauraa…)

Yelp
I've been in here twice now and both times I was astonished at the rudeness and hostility of the serving staff! The 2nd time (thinking I'd give them a second chance as it may have been a fluke) I was hoping for an improvement, didn't happen! We were checking the board and were told to hurry up (!) as we were keeping people waiting (we really were not taking ages we were trying to figure out which flavours were ice cream and which were yoghurt as it wasn't clear and when we asked about yoghurt flavours we were told there was only one: Greek style) and we were then told that we should eat it take away !!! It was NOT a busy time there were 3 tables free in doors and the bench out side was empty (I've seen this place busy and that was NOT busy!) Disappointed at this needless rudeness I asked the girl who had been serving us for a feedback form I was told there were none, then the same girl who had been so rude to us she would hand on my comments to the manager. (I doubt she would of had I actually told her I was going to complain about how rude she had just been to me and my guest!!) Then when I said I'd look on the web site, she abruptly told me there wasn't one, and she must have then twigged that I was going to make a complaint as she was then obsequiously started to be helpful.. Pathetic and brought what I was hoping to be a good experience down to a bad one I can go to plenty of other places in London where I can not only have great tasting gelati but also wonderful happy and smiling service I will be voting with my feet and I will NOT be going back here the ice cream was of a good quality but what good is lovely ice cream if the service leaves a sour taste in your mouth?!

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Delicious gelato. Even a chocolate fountain! Right outside Borough market. Looked like nice coffee service as well.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
My favorite gelato place ever! My Top three flavors Pana Cotta, coffee, and chocolate! Love love love, if you're in London you've got to have a try, you won't regret it!

Jamie R.

Yelp
Very good gelato. They also have running milk chocolate out if a faucet. My wife wants one installed at our house now! They put the milk chocolate in the bottom of the cone and can give you shots as well. Rey nice and clean place in a lively neighborhood. Our teenage kids loved it too.
