The 13 Best Gelato Spots In Rome 2024

"Gelateria Fassi—also known as the Palazzo del Freddo, or Frozen Palace—is Rome’s oldest gelato establishment. It’s been open since 1880, and has survived wars, pandemics, and Italian bureaucracy. The shop practically doubles as a Fassi family museum, with portraits and newspaper clippings covering the walls. Get a scoop of the zabaione gelato (which is kind of like a frozen eggnog) and the vanilla bourbon topped with teeny-tiny bits of toasted peanuts and cocoa nibs. Google
I think this might be the best gelato in the world. The have a large selection of flavors and the quality is perfect. The texture is perfect and the creme for the top is freshly whipped. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I don't speak Italian but I had no problem placing my order. I used Google translate on a photo of the menu before I ordered. There is a line out the door after 6 PM but it moves quickly. They have a large dining room with plenty of tables and chairs. We didn't have to wait but If you are with someone, I suggest having someone grab a table while you are in line. On top of all that, the prices are great! A medium size is 2.7 euros ( much less than the tourist places around Rome). FInally, the atmosphere here is really fun. It was a nice experience to eat gelato with my sweetheart and enjoy the people talking and laughing. If the weather is nice, enjoy your treat in the beautiful park about two blocks away.

Google
Omg, Lord. The gelato at this place is incredible, I discovered accidentally, and got intrigued by so many people waiting in line. I gave it it a shot, and I ended up buying gelato from here every evening. I mean, the prices are unbelievable for the quality you receive. I discovered that sorbet 🍧 with passion fruit, or MARACUJA in Italian, is exactly what I like, sour and sweet at the same time. My tastebuds went in heaven Oh my goodness, I'm back in London and dreaming of that delicious sorbet.

Google
Quite an experience for a gelato fan. Most probably the best Ice cream worldwide ! I spent a week in Rome. Every day had to check in !

Google
This place must be really famous, because the queue to get the ice cream was long. I actually don’t remember what I got, but I remember it tasting really good. I do remember having whipped cream on my gelato…and thinking that was different, but I enjoyed it. Remember to eat that ice cream quickly especially in Summer as you will have a lava of ice cream flowing down your hand. When in Roma again, hopefully I will come visit. 🙂

Google
The best Gelateria in Roma! Maurizio was the best! I ordered an affogato and didn’t know which flavors and told him to make me whatever he thinks is best. It was out of this world delicious! And the presentation! We loved this place! The gelato was just as good :) We can’t wait to come back to this place again next time we are in Rome! Grazie Maurizio for an unforgettable experience

Google
Best ice cream in Rome, love it. Been in Rome seven days and visited every day. Islam is a great guy, very friendly and funny, definitely made the visit. Huge selection of flavours to choose from and haven't found one I don't like. Pick your time as the queue can get quite long

Google
The otherside of the tourist trail where the locals mass in large numbers and once you sample the wares of this very simple, unpretentious comparatively drab but cavernous outlet you can see exactly why it's a huge local favourite and a true Roman Institution. The gelato is brilliant and utterly traditional and the prices are far more reasonable and affordable and yet the quality is fabulous. This Gelateria is unlike any other visited. Its down to earth and superb and very reasonable on the pocket and the portions are enormous too. An unmissable experience for those on the gelato trail....and I was the only tourist in a large crowd tucking into what was obviously their favourite gelato in town. Excellent and full value for money.

Google
Went here for an ice cream after a lovely dinner at feelsgood, however I was disappointed. For a place rated 4.6 stars, I expected better overall. To start, the service was bad, and the whole ordering ice cream process is confusing. I wanted three scoops but the waiters rushed and pretty much didnt give me a chance to complete my order. Additionally, others were served before us even though we were waiting before them. When I finally got the ice cream after about 10 minutes, there was a lump of cream on top, a little too much. The stracciatella scoop was delicious, but unfortunately the pistachio scoop tasted overly strong and made me sick. Other than the stracciatella ice cream scoop and the lively atmosphere, there was nothing which stood out for such an iconic place. Food: 2 stars Service: 2 stars Atmosphere: 4 stars Overall: 4/10. A lacklustre experience leaving much to be desired, which is a big shame. Not recommended

Yelp
Believe the hype! This place has lines out the door for a reason! But be patient. The line does move fairly quickly. First get on line, and let them know what you'll be ordering (# scoops; cup or cone; Popsicle, ice cream bars, etc), and pay for your item(s). Take your receipt and get on the line for the items of your choice. There are separate lines, so make sure you get on the right line. Honestly, this can be a little chaotic and frustrating....but keep focused on the rewards!! lol This place is HUGE!! Plenty of tables available to relax and enjoy your goodies. It's a pretty popular place for both locals and tourists. I tried their Pistachio Gelato, and it was fantastic! That hard part is picking what to try....so many choices!! Recommended!

Yelp
This is hands down one of the best and most delicious gelato places!!! All I can say it that it is jam packed for a reason! The service is superb, and the gelato is so refreshing to eat! My favorite flavors are the banana and also the vanilla peanut butter! I could eat this gelato everyday! The shop is also very lively!

Yelp
Soooooo delizioso, Got this recommendation from my Airbnb host and it is a 10/10! Food was amazing, it was very big and busy even at 11pm. We loved it so much we shared our first one and decided to grab another. The nata(whipped cream) complements the ice cream so well because it isn't sweet. Service was great, the workers are very pleasant.

Yelp
Honestly don't know why there are any mixed reviews here. I'm going every day before work and couldn't be happier with the quality of the gelato or the service. Perfecto! They've got lots of tables and a great ice cream shop vibe. People tend to be friendly enough to share a table with you too which is super awesome when you're tired. Espresso is perfecto.

Yelp
This place was walking distance from our hotel and came highly recommended so we tried it. I had the pistachio gelato and really enjoyed it! The flavor was good, it was very creamy. The fresh whipped cream was a nice touch. They had lots of flavor options and they were quick to get you served.

Yelp
Fassi Gelato earned 5 stars from me because they're such a good value. That's not to say their gelato is bad; in fact, it's some of the best I've ever had! The gelato is nice and creamy and all bursting with flavor. My favorite was the caffe. I also tried some of the other flavors that my friends got and they were all really good too. I don't think you can go wrong here. The place is pretty big so getting a seat was easy. It also might have been the fact that we visited at around 11PM. I can't confirm, but I can imagine this place getting pretty busy during the day. Nonetheless service was quick and friendly. I can't believe a medium cup is only 2 Euros! If there were a similar place in the US I'd certainly make regular visits.

Yelp
Such a great place!!! Love the history on the walls and the pictures/signs of the origins of this place and people involved. The space is huge!! Great for large groups of friends or family! Super casual and authentic feel. Lots of people enjoying their time on a weekday evening The dessert was fantastic. Soooo many flavors to choose from; so hard to choose but appreciate the options! Workers were very nice too. Love everything about this place.

Yelp
We STUMBLED across the FAMOUS Fassi Gelateria -- and we're so glad we did! IT IS SO GOOD! It stands apart from other gelaterias with how flavorful and pure their options are. Of course, get the pistachio, nocciola (hazelnut), and stracciatela -- classic italian flavors. But, please DO NOT MISS OUT on their rice flavor! If you like rice pudding, you'll fall in love. The workers are super generous (as you can tell by the size of this medium cone) and funny. We'll be back for their other icy and creamy treats! The store is spacious, with plenty of seating. So come chill with gelato and friends! Ordered: MEDIUM Pistachio, Nocciola, and Rizo with dopia crema (except we ordered 1 and the guy gave lol)

Yelp
I was on the hunt for my last gelato before leaving Europe and I found this place on Yelp. It's located right by Roma Termini, so it's super convenient if you're coming or going from another city. When I showed up on a Sunday afternoon, I was shocked to see such a huge line! It didn't seem to be a big touristy spot, since most people there were speaking in Italian. Don't get me wrong, the gelato was delicious, but it wasn't far and away that much better than most of the other gelato I had throughout the trip. They do have tons of flavors, so there's something for everyone. I'd recommend!

Yelp
So good. Was recommended and lived up to the billing. Tried 3... Tira Misu, Pistachio and Salted peanut. In my order of favorite but all were really good.

Yelp
We came here with our hotel's recommendation, as it's the oldest gelateria started by a king's chef in 1880. It's a popular destination, and has a lot of tables in a comfortable indoor seating area. That's the end of the positives about this place. The taste of the gelato left much to be desired. They felt diluted. The only flavors that stood out (out of the 8 we tried) were strawberry and chocolate. The presentation was also messy, with whipped cream slapped on sloppily and grumpishly by the server. None of the servers looked happy, and were more engaged with each other than with the customers. With so many gelaterias and so little time for most visitors in the city, we would recommend going elsewhere.

Yelp
We just happened upon this he later as we were walking in the neighborhood where our rental was. Once we came through the door, we knew we were in a magical place. It ends up Palazzo del Freddo is Rome's oldest gelateria, opening first in 1880! The whole experience is so classic - first, pay for the style of gelato and scoops you want and then get in the real line. The scoopers are no joke - decide what you want before you get to them! Also, get the cream!! My Italian tour guide at the Vatican told me the real trick is to get the whipped cream at the bottom AND top of the cone!! The flavors are delightful and delicious - you cannot go wrong! And the building itself is gorgeous - an old carriage house filled with beautiful marble and even more beautiful happy families!

Yelp
Came here on a weekend afternoon, was slightly confused at how this place works but pay first then give the slip to the people at the counter. I got a medium (€2.50! for three flavors), and I got tiramisu, raspberry, and something that doesn't have an English name (the person helping me didn't know what it was called so gave me a taste, and I didn't know what it was either). Gelato was alright, not icy but not creamy either, flavors were bold. Whipped cream on top was nice! I had an odd encounter though: when I was still figuring out what flavor I wanted, the person helping me kept telling me that the rice one was very good. He asked if I like rice - I ignored him and asked what the flavor next to the rice one was, and after he answered, he asked me again if I like rice. I said no, and he told me it's very good, got a spoon, and gave me a try of it. He asked if I liked it and I said no, I don't like rice. I'm not sure why he was so pushy about me trying the rice one, but is it because I'm Asian? He then asked where I'm from and I said the US, to which he asked Texas? (no) Florida? (no). I said California finally. Interesting that the two states he asked are the most highly populated red states, not sure why those are the exact two that he asked about. In any case, the rice situation was extremely odd to me. Won't be coming back here.

Yelp
Another gelato place that has been around Forever!! Right when you enter there's a cashier with prices and displays of sizes/ cup or cone. You pay there and then head to the scooping station and give them your receipt which they will tear. I decided on the pistachio which is one of the more popular ones. It was amazing ! Super fresh and flavorful. A little out of the way but quality is good and prices are reasonable.

Yelp
It's called a "palace," and it is. This place is a palace to celebrate gelato. It's like an old-time ice cream parlor in the U.S. but even bigger and with their old posters framed on the wall. On a hot Roman summer day, it was what we needed. I did the large with four flavors and loved them all, though probably Roman cream the least and coffee the most. And that big dollop of fresh cream/panna on top? Yes, please!
google avatar

Jewelz D.

Yelp
Delicious gelato. Not much written in english, so when you go in, go to the first cash register on the right. Place your order (theres a menu along with samples of all the cones and cups in the display) and pay. Take your receipt to the gelato bar and pick your flavors. In our large cups, we could choose up to 4 flavors. They say "scoops", but they are more like "smears". They will also ask if you want some fresh cream on top. Theres lots of seating and air conditioning. We had to wait until noon for it to open (a line had already formed outside), but it was well worth the wait. Would definately come here again. I tried the raspberry, strawberry, coffee and chocolate flavors. My husband also tried banana. They were all delicious.

Yelp
My favorite gelato in all of Italy!!!! Literally I dream about this gelato and hope one day I can go back just to eat this again. Do not pass this place up and always say yes to the whipped cream!! It's such a great touch! LOVE THIS PLACE!!
google avatar

Yelp
Yum!!!! I was in Rome for 4 nights and had this my second day there and every day after that lol. Prices are the best I've seen in all of Rome and I loved their strawberry gelato and the pineapple! Mango was decent as well with little chunks of mango in there. Also liked the coconut...mmm! I've had better coffee, but I suppose this was ok too. The employees are friendly and they take credit card! I tried the whip cream once, but definitely prefer my gelato without. €1.60 for a piccolo (small-3 flavors) €2.00 for medium.

Yelp
Awesome gelato shop that's been around forever. It's definitely another top (probably the best) gelato place in Italy! It's so popular that you have to order what you want and get a receipt. Then take the receipt to the gelato counter to choose your flavors. There are so many flavors here! Warning to those that love order and lines, that was not the case when we were there. It's sort of like try to get to the counter and give your ticket to one if the gelato servers. But when it does get hectic they will take several tickets given to them and will start with the lowest number. So there's sort of a method to the chaos. Our first time we tied to do the "get in line in the order you paid" but we saw locals who paid after us just go up to the front. So we learned our lesson and did the same. If you do want to form a line, you will get served but expect that people who came after you will get their gelato before you if you're not going to be a bit aggressive. One small cup/cone gets you up to 3 different flavors. I got pear, rice, and coconut -- all divine. My husband got mango, pistachio, and chestnut which were all amazing too! Other good flavors are tiramisu, zabione, hazelnut, creme with cherries, and vanilla with cherries. Definitely go here if you come to Rome!

Yelp
Apparently there was a reputation and a long history/tradition for this place but it has gone down in quality according to a delusional local who originally recommended it and shared my disappointment trying it. Absolutely nothing special. Lacks creaminess and personality of flavor (my definition of a gelato). I tried the gianduia, coffee, pistachio The panna is made fresh and is good. Try it if you want to kill your curiosity from other reviewers but there are plenty gelaterias that are WAY above.

Yelp
My first time having gelato in Italy was here and after this non of the other gelato places I went to could compare. The inside is just adorable, the place is really big which is needed because they get a lot of business. There is tons of seating and the font side of the building is all windows so you can see outside to the street. The gelato was amazing the flavor and texture was so delicious! And the fresh made whipped cream was so good. I don't normally like whipped cream but this place prompted me to learn to make whipped cream from scratch. My favorite flavors were the pistachio, stracciatella and vanilla. Just amazing! I ate so much gelato. It was a short walk from where I was staying and close to restaurants so it was always on the way back to my apartment. It was so delicious I ate gelato 3 times a day for the entire week I was there. :)
google avatar

Sal G.

Yelp
I was skeptical at first, but this place is worth the hype. I don't say this lightly, the best gelato I've had in Italy. It tasted like it whipped cream and ice cream had a baby. It was amazing. I got the tiramisu and straciatella, I would highly recommend. There's a lot seating space inside and a water fountain. You pay at the counter and get to choose from their many flavors. They also have tons of cakes and pastries that looked very good. If you're looking for a real gelato place, this is it!
google avatar

Cheyne T.

Yelp
Hands down best gelato I've ever had! We came here everyday during our trip to Rome, sometimes even twice a day. The line looks intimidating but goes by very quickly. My favorite flavors were the chocolate, Nutella, and espresso.
google avatar

Laurel F.

Yelp
While visiting Rome with my boyfriend, a bed & breakfast owner told us that Fassi Gelateria has the best gelato, so of course we visited and I can honestly say it was the best gelato I had while visiting both Rome and Florence! Fassi is huge and packed with people! You place your order at one register and bring the receipt to the gelato counter and try to flag down a worker. I got a small gelato cone and it comes with two large scoops and fresh whipped cream! I tried the Caffè& vanilla/Nutella swirl. My boyfriend got the classic vanilla/chocolate. OMG both cheap & delicious!
google avatar

Fay W.

Yelp
The best gelato in Rome. You know it's good when everything on the menu is in Italian and mostly locals eat here. Their homemade whip cream is to die for! Omg I had to go for round 2!!
google avatar

Jewel Y.

Yelp
My second favorite gelateria in Rome after Giolitti!! My Romano friend took me here after the dinner and this was one of the few gelaterie that was still open at 10:30pm. The neighborhood looked a bit shady late at night, so I won't recommend female tourists to go by herself after dark. I was surprised that there were still quite a few people late at night in the middle of winter coming to buy gelato, which I took as a good sign. I think zabaglione I had at Giolitti is still slightly more to my liking but this place also makes high quality old school gelato that taste so divine. And the price too is very reasonable, I wish I can buy this back in the Stateside too for the same price!!! I got 3 flavors for 2 something euro, which is a pretty good deal. For good gelato, it's worth making a trip down here even during the winter. I took an Uber back to the hotel with a very happy stomach.

Yelp
Shame on anyone who doesn't give this place five stars. Yeah, you have to go get a ticket with the type of order you want (what size cup, whether you want a cone or cup, etc.), but it's really not worth deducting a star for. And way, the service may not be fantastic, but they scoop your gelato and they get the job done. I don't need my gelato scoopers to provide excellent conversation; as long as there is gelato in my cup, I'm satisfied. My Airbnb is about 10 minutes walking from here so I've come here twice in a row now. The first night I shared a cup with my girlfriend and we got a scoop each of strawberry, mixed berry, and cream. I enjoyed the mixed berry and strawberry, but I didn't eat much cream because it was too sweet. The berry flavors have a bit of tart so it balances out the sweetness. Three flavors in a small cup is €1.60. Tonight I also got a small cup but got only two flavors instead of three: mint, and strawberry. The mint tastes just like mint chocolate chip ice cream, which is delicious, and the strawberry still has some tart which balances out the sweetness of the mint. It was an amazing combo and I'd highly recommend it. In all likelihood I'll probably be back tomorrow evening, too -- that's just how good the gelato is! Perfect for an after dinner treat :)
google avatar

Jordan W.

Yelp
This was easily our favorite Gelato shop in all of Europe. For $1.60 Euros you can choose 3 flavors of gelato topped with homemade whipped cream. We found this gem the first night landing in Rome and we basically went back every day! The line gets pretty long but you pay at the desk first and then hand your receipt to the scooper. After getting your receipt, you can go to either side of the gelato glass and hand your receipt to the scooper! My favorite flavors are the chocolate, chocolate swirl, strawberry, and the melon! Everything was really good here and can't wait to try more flavors!
google avatar

Mario A.

Yelp
Went here on a recommendation of my friends bro who lives in Rome. Doesn't disappoint. Ton of selections. The system is typical Italian where you need to be somewhat aggressive to get your gelato. Pay at the register and bring your receipt to the gelato counter and tell them what you want. Some dude in brown cut in front of me at the last minute and I was super irritated. He was a monk. Haha. You gotta love Italy. I have the chocolate and lemon. It was the best I've had in Rome so far.

Yelp
Just spent 2 weeks in Rome during a heat wave with my ice cream addicted spouse (she hails from Argentina so she knows good 'helado'). Needless to say, after trying gelato next to nearly every monument in town, G.Fassi was the hands-down favorite. Turns out it was across the street from where we were staying, so the whole family got to indulge on a nightly basis. The prices are great, the flavors superb, and the shop is truly a palace dedicated to ice cream. Can't recommend this place enough! Addendum: Right before we were leaving, I read that they have a tour of their ice cream lab. They normally ask for a week's notice, but the amazing Valeria accommodated us the next morning since we were leaving town. With Valeria speaking both English and Italian wonderfully, our international group was treated to the fascinating G.Fassi story as well as a peak behind the curtain to how G.Fassi makes its scrumptious wares. And at the end, we got samples from freshly made gelato and even got a complimentary cone to go. Ice cream for breakfast! Yes!

Yelp
My absolute favorite gelato shop in Italy!! For one thing, the prices here are on the cheaper side. For ~11 Euros, we were able to get 5 orders of gelato, each with 3 flavors! What a steal! And secondly, the gelato here is unreal- it's so dense and rich, and the flavors taste so real and natural. None of that artificial flavoring! There's a wide variety of both decadent and fruity flavors to choose from (try the pistachio flavor here, you will NOT regret it). They also give you the option to top off your gelato with a whipped cream that they make in-house, which is unique and awesome. In order to save you some confusion, you first have to pay at the register before you can get your gelato. The price for a cup or cone are the same, so you just have to tell them what sizes you would like. For example, order "three smalls" instead of "one small cup and two small cones". You then bring the receipt to a worker behind the gelato counter and tell them what flavors you would like! Don't miss out on a mind blowing gelato experience!

Yelp
This is the best gelato place in Rome! It was recommended by our airbnb host Frank of Frank's house. I had the rice flavor gelato and it was so good and creamy and it even had bits of real rice in it. It was so good I came back the next day.
google avatar

Diana H.

Yelp
Best gelato in Rome!!!! Wow we were so lucky this place was just a few blocks from our hotel. We had gelato every day. The spot quite big with seating inside and a small garden area on the side of the gelato counter. For wonky $2 you can get three flavours and creme not too (medium size... really good portion). Don't be scared of the long line it moves very quickly. The service was very friendly and lots of both creamy and fruity flavours to choose from. I tried so many flavours and all were so good; not ever disappointed. But my must try's are lemon and blood orange. Gelato will never be the same for me.

Yelp
Excellent gelato and pastries! The services is also great. For U.S. readers, it is more of a Ghirardelli Ice Cream than Haagen Dazs or Baskin Robbins. The location is off the beaten path but worth it!

Yelp
Wow!!! Decent price and amazing quality gelato. This place is always busy and looks crazy and chaotic, but it's really not. You just gotta know what flavor you want so you're not wasting time up at the front. My favorite flavor by far was the nutella. I highly recommend this place and trying it out.

Yelp
Very good place to have a Gelato a Saturday night. It was a bit crowded but the line went fast. The small come was €2 and you can choose 2 flavors.

Yelp
When in Italy everyone wants five things: gelato, wine, pasta, pizza, and gelato. I must have stopped by for gelato nine times in one week because it was so mouthwateringly good and my wife has a major sweet tooth. Palazzo del Freddo Giovanni Fassi is highly recommended in Rome, especially by the locals. This amazing business has been around since 1907 and for good reason. Not only do they service delicious treats and gelato, but they have their own gelato production facility in the back! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - Best gelato since 1907! - Great deals - Sample items on ordering desk for simple tourists to make ordering a breeze - Friendly staff - Inexpensive pricing - Made in-house The man we were renting a place from in Roma is a retired professor and immediately asked if we had tried any gelato yet. Since we just walked from the train station, of course not! He grabbed his dog and walked us over to THE BEST GELATO out of our entire trip around France and Italy I was able to take advantage of their winter specials. From November to February: - Wednesday, ice cream cones & cups 50% off - Thursday, loose ice cream 50% off - Friday, 8/10 pieces (cassata, tronchetto, caterinetta, tartufo, tiramisù) packs 3€ off The place we were renting was not too far from Palazzo del Freddo Giovanni Fassi while in Roma and while the area may seem rough at first glance, ALL of Rome is a bit dirty and covered in graffiti. Don't let that deter you as I walked the streets late at night and shopped in local grocery stores for a week without problems.

Yelp
Can't get over how good the gelato was! Definitely lives up to its popularity. The store itself is also very big but it can get very crowded.

Yelp
Best gelato joint in all of Italy, if not the world! This place does not mess around, they have like 24 flavors and its always busy. You can get your gelato topped with heavy cream at no extta cost...must try it!

Yelp
Fassi is a very popular and large dessert shop in the area. It has a extremely large selection of gelato flavors that are cream or fruit based and they are all extremely good. The gelato is also really reasonably priced at 1.6 to 3 euros for a small to large cup/cone. I would recommend getting the cone since they tend to pile more gelato onto the top than they do for cups. My favorite flavors are mango, strawberry, tiramisu, and the chocolate!

Yelp
This place is truly one of a kind. They put up with our poor Italian like champs, and their gelato is to die for! You get to choose three flavors, and their prices are great for what you get. I would go here every day if I could! P.S. If it's unclear on how it works, get in line and pay first. They give you a ticket and then you can go and pick out your flavors. P.P.S. The more English you see, the more a restaurant probably caters to tourists and there's a decent chance it'll be less authentic. This place has little English, and while the servers speak some English - this place has won awards and is hailed by locals as THE place to go for quality, authentic gelato.

Yelp
The gelato is great, rich in flavor but light in texture. Ordered pistachio, yogurt, mango, and vanilla + red cherry. Love the pistachio the most, a bit disappointed with mango, but overall it's easily go above average! I minus one star because I actually ordered one medium size and one cappuccino (drink), and when I gave the staff the receipt he somehow turned that into a bigger size and said if I want cappuccino I have to order again. But... I already ordered and why would you change my order? It's written on the receipt :( it was a little bit unpleasant regarding the communication with the staff, but the gelato though, to be fair, is really good!

Yelp
One of the first (and maybe the first) gelateria in Rome; A legendary place in Rome! The "Palace of Cold" has amazingly tasty ice-cream and is opened until midnight! The only catch, there is a catch, is the very long queues; yes there are two queues: one to pay and one to order... And you can reach 40 minutes, just to get an I've-cream... So, come here only when you have time...

Yelp
Flew into Rome at 8pm. Checked into the Airbnb by 9:30. Ran to G. Fassi's by 10! It's awesome this place was located so close to where I was staying by the Termini train station. I was super excited for gelato, especially coming from France and Switzerland where prices were significantly more expensive. This place was absolutely packed when I got here despite the venue being the size of a large restaurant - there were a lot of Asian tourists running around, and it wasn't until later when I realized it's right next to Chinatown and also the venue had opened sister locations in Asia! I got a cone with noccioloto, and pistachio, and zabaione (which is an Italian custard-like dessert made with eggs, sugar and wine. I was originally going to get something traditional, but the ice cream man kept on shaking his head and pointing to the zabaione every single time I mouthed chocolate. I eventually got the hint). The gelato was delicious and creamy, and the portions were very generous. For every treat, they also add a huge slab of whipped cream on top - there's a lot of emphasis on that. It's not super sweet, but it does add to the creaminess and fluffiness of the gelato and actually lightens the flavor. After having the gelato cone, I just felt so hyper and excited by my first gelato experience in Italy that I decided to get a chocolate Ninetto ice cream bar - pretty much just a square ice cream bar with chocolate coating. The vanilla ice cream filling was rich (at least the gelato tasted creamier than the ice cream I got in the cone), but the chocolate-covered shell wasn't that great because it was pretty thin and light. It chipped pretty easily from the bar, and I wish it was more rigid and crunchy like that of a Magnum bar coating. Overall, a great experience - it's definitely a must if you're visiting Rome!

Yelp
Wow! While visiting family in Rome my uncle told me that this place was the very best place to get gelato in all of Italy. Two full cups of gelato later I realized my uncle was wrong... This is not the best gelato in Italy... IT'S THE BEST GELATO IN THE WORLD!!! The prices are low and the selections are plentiful. If you are in Rome this place is an absolute must.

Yelp
The biggest gelato place (in terms of the shop's size). The server was not so pleasant, but the taste of pretty good.
