The 15 Best Sushi Omakase Spots In NYC For Under $100

"Genki is in a bare-bones Greenwich Village space with pastel green walls and a muzak soundtrack. It isn’t the most atmospheric setting, but the 13-course, $75 omakase (there’s also a 15-course option for $98) is pretty high quality. The pieces are large and heavily seasoned, and we especially like the fatty kanpachi, buttery shima aji, and wagyu with uni. Just keep in mind that the chefs here are very serious about getting you in and out in 60 minutes. If you want to supplement your omakase with “Fun List” creations like salmon and toro with tomato and quail egg, you’ll have to be quick." - neha talreja, bryan kim, kenny yang, hannah albertine, will hartman

Genki Omakase - Review - Greenwich Village - New York - The Infatuation

"When you get to this spot in Greenwich Village and hear the muzak playing as you take in the dining room that gives off “1980s dentist office in a strip mall” vibes, you’ll have little hope that the sushi is going to be good. But we’re convinced the decor exists simply to disarm you. The quality of Genki’s 13-course $68 omakase is surprisingly high. Each course is notably large, and most pieces come aggressively seasoned with soy, yuzu, or chili sauces. We especially like the slightly firm and fatty kanpachi, the sweet and buttery shima aji, and the barely-seared wagyu with uni. You can add on handrolls and “Fun List” creations like salmon and toro with tomato and quail egg, but you’ll have to do so before your hour time limit is up. (They’re very serious about getting you in and out within 60 minutes.) This place is currently BYOB, but if you don’t bring anything, the chefs are happy to pour you a few shots of sake on the house. photo credit: Genki Omakase" - Kenny Yang

Genki Omakase is a famous Omakase place located right outside of NYU and Washington Square Park, serving a 15 piece course for a great price. The staff are excellent, with them observant at every turn, refilling waters when needed, asking for any extra pieces needed, and more. They provide free hand wipes throughout the meal, and are able to explain the dishes well. The courses were excellent. A favorite piece was the salmon, with a decent fish to rice ratio, though maybe smaller than other places. For the price though, I think it is well worth it. The A5 Wagyu was very good, the slice of wagyu they used had a great marbling and was cooked to perfection. They didn't have 1 of the pieces when we went, but they were able to substitute it for something else which was tasty as well, and didn't ruin the experience. the pieces were served with a dash of soy sauce and wasabi, however wasabi was able to be customized to be less or more depending on preference. Overall a 10/10 experience.

I had so much fun here. All the chefs were so nice and fun. Came here for my birthday with my friends and I had such a great time. We will be back!! We had chef Adam and he was great.

Best-value omakase I’ve had in the U.S.—$89 pp, done in under 45 minutes. Easily beats most of the sub-$150 omakase experiences. Recently visited for a Sunday lunch. Given the sparse crowd of only two groups during peak lunch hours, I was initially uncertain. However, once everyone was seated, the chef began without delay, and 15 course experience turned out to be great. Throughout the meal, there wren’t many noticeable compromises in sushi quality, aside from the salmon and akami. The menu still featured coveted indulgences like uni, Otoro with caviar, and Botan Ebi topped with uni. Yet the real highlights for me were the opening trio:  kanpachi,  Kumamoto oysters, and the black cod. I also appreciated their minimal use of toppings, which allowed the rich nuances of each fish's oil to shine through. For its price, pace, and some premium touches, this omakase felt like an absolute steal. No over-the-top aesthetic plates or fancy cups—just good quality sushi, pure and simple.

Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Vibe 4/5 If you’re looking for an affordable OMAKASE experience in NYC near NYU and SoHo/Noho, this maybe the spot for you. It’s definitely shorter than other omakase experience, so if you’re looking for that experience, look away. I would say the whole experience is roughly 1 hour which is perfect for a tourist like me with a packed agenda every-time I travel to NYC. I personally thought everything was deliciously made, and since it’s not the traditional type of omakase, they do accommodate your dietary restrictions. I don’t eat shell fish, so it’s definitely a tricky one for omakases, but they were able to give me different cuts of fish (which I really appreciate) Overall I highly recommend this place, and if u have the time next time, I would def come back.

Google
Great Omakase, definitely arrive on time they’re prompt. Order the extra supplements, wagyu and Uni were excellent. Foie gras was also very fresh.

Google
Non-descript sushi restaurant with a good omakase menu at decent value. Not much interaction with the chef or backstory to the menu but you get your sushi flavors and head on out pretty quickly.

Came here for my birthday dinner and this was by far the best omakase I have ever been to! Overall great value for price. The different cuts of fish are soo incredibly fresh and the food is prepared so meticulously. The service is amazing, special shoutout to Jay and Leo for the warming birthday wishes and free shots of sake!! Had the most amazing food and company, this place is an absolute recommend.

Walk in during lunch so I got my own “personal” chef 😎. I had traditional sushi at another spot that missed the mark for me so I was craving flavor. The menu here matched my preferences so well. I struck up conversation with the chef and he was engaging. I’d return!

Yelp
I really wanted to love this omakase spot but it just didn't hit the spot. The workers and chef receives five stars for their friendly service...no complaints there. There were some dishes I just did not enjoy and it wasn't just me who felt that way. I'm not sure if it's because we had an amazing meal the night before at Sushi Blossoms? However, I really did enjoy the last course with the banana. It was different and had my taste buds doing back flips. Also, $85 for 15 course wasn't bad either.

Yelp
A quick casual spot in Greenwich village, For $75 you can get a solid 13-course omakase in the heart of Greenwich Village. From uni to ikura to wagyu with foie gras, there's a wide variety of courses. Some of my personal favorites were: - 銀鱈 (black cod) - 目鯛 (butter fish) - 大トロ (fatty tuna with caviar) So king salmon, uni, and fatty tuna are standard courses for most omakase in the city but the oven baked black cod was a nice surprise! It was cooked all the way through but still glistening with just the right amount of seasoning. However, the other courses here are a little heavy on the soy sauce and seasonings. The meal also feels a little rushed as it's strictly 60 minutes. Follow my Instagram and TikTok @thephotographerfoodie for more! :)

Yelp
Came here for Omakase and it was superb. Came here for the 17 pcs for $98. There were couple of ones that i loved: Oyster, red snapper, king salmon, lean tuna, sea urchin, fatty tuna, and the A5 wagyu w. toro & foie gras. The ambiance was great. lighting was perfect, noise was not loud we were able to have a conversation and share our experiences. Anyways, I'd say Genki Omakase experience is definitely worth it: the experience, the enjoyment, the food tasting, the food flavour, the quietness and exclusiveness of the place, and many more... Will definitely come back again in the future : )

Yelp
It was about time I tried genki omakase! I am happy to say this place is on my top three contenders for omakase around the city! We arrived for lunch and it wasnt too busy, it was just me and my party dining in so it was quite enjoyable and relaxing. Each piece was curated so perfectly, there were no bad pieces. I even enjoyed the hotate, something I am normally not a fan of. Highlight pieces for me was the black cod, uni (look at the massive piece you get!), otoro. What was really surprising to me was the dessert. I thought we skipped a course straight onto dessert however to my surprise it was unagi with banana! Thinking about this combo made me quite questionable however the sweet, salty and smokiness of the uni went really well with the banana! The chef was personable and I enjoyed our experience here! Highly recc this place to try out!

Yelp
First omakase I ever had and it was amazing. The best sushi I ever had hands down. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. The service was excellent and we felt really catered to during the experience. The price point is also great and you leave feeling full but not sick (which is the perfect spot to be in). Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
My co-workers and I had a 15 piece omakase dining experience for dinner. It was clean and there were plenty of seats and space in the waiting area. There is a coat rack. Of course we all had our favorites. I thought their unagi eel was unique because it was sweet. It was fused with a banana. I would say a nice dessert at the end. I enjoyed tuna, salmon, uni, toro, scallop, oyster and sea bream. As you can tell I enjoyed many of the sushi pieces here.

Yelp
Ambiance - super clean, great for dates and celebrations Service - went on a Friday for lunch and had the place all to ourselves, staff was super nice, chef took his time preparing all our pieces Food - all the pieces were super fresh, super generous with their portions, the scallop and uni is to die forrrrrr Can't wait to be back again!

Yelp
Find me a better deal...I'll wait. This place is incredible for the money. Each piece of sushi was beyond good and the small ambiance is perfect. I bring all my out of town visitors here and they all walk out satisfied and raving. Could service be better? Yes. But the price-point and quality make it worth it.

Yelp
The vibes were nice and our sushi chef was very nice and welcoming. He was very attentive and always ask how the food tasted. The food was good for its price in which me and my girlfriend did the 17 course omakase. Some of the fish the did a little twist like the eel and banana or the salmon with dice tomatoes. I enjoyed the fish however it did give me that wow factor like at some other places.

Yelp
This is the best food and service I have ever had. Michelin star quality. My wife and I reserved about 2 weeks ahead of time for a Sunday dinner service. The staff was the most professional I have ever had the pleasure of dining with and the chef was so skilled it blew me away. Each piece was cut, prepared, sauced, and presented to perfection. The selection included an incredible variety of the finest quality fish, mollusks, crustaceans, and echinoderms that are currently in season. The chef prepared each piece as a work of art and had phenomenal recommendations for sake customized to the pallet of the those dining. I truly cannot recommend this place enough. It is expensive, but for the quality of service and food I would consider this very affordable. I have been to Michelin stared places that did not have the service and quality of food this place offers. Even the design of the restaurant highlights the elegance and quality of the food. If you have the means I highly recommend this experience.

Yelp
Very standard but good omakase for a good price! I got 13 pieces for $72 and my friend got 17 pieces for $98. We both thoroughly enjoyed every piece! The environment was super fun and lively - they were even playing EDM! Definitely a different mood than some of the much slower paced and quieter omakase places I've been to. Our chef was very nice as well and accommodated me when I asked for less rice in my pieces. They have set seating times, so it was very in and out (each seating is one hour) if that's what you're looking for.

Yelp
I was 23 min late to my 7:30 reservation due to the gridlock but the waiters + chefs were super understanding and still let my boyfriend and I do the 13 piece omakase. I was scared the omakase would feel rushed but the chef timed each piece well. My favorites were the black cod, otoro with caviar, and the eel + banana dish at the end. However, everything was really yummy. I would definitely recommend this spot!
google avatar

Yelp
This was a surprisingly delightful dining experience. I say "surprisingly" because the restaurant does not give the impression of being excessively expensive. The service was excellent from the moment we arrived, and we were able to finish our meal within an hour, making it a convenient choice for a quick dinner while traveling. The food was delicious, with the fish being of very high quality. I would place it slightly below high-end omakase, but certainly above budget sushi. The ambiance was simple yet clean. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant for its good value.
google avatar

Lindsay Z.

Yelp
The best omakase I had recently in the city. We chose 17 courses for my birthday, and I love every single piece. It finished with a surprising birthday cake made of various sashimis and a desert. The desert is a mix of eels with bananas, which is creatively delish. I would come back and highly recommend.
google avatar

Trish H.

Yelp
We had a 13-course omakase, which was surprisingly affordable. Chef Jay was incredibly attentive and took great care of us, even adding a little extra to the sushi, making it feel more special. We made a same-day reservation and were the last ones in the restaurant. One thing to note: we chose Genki because it was known for being BYOB with no corkage fee, but that hasn't been the case for the last six months. There's now a $50 corkage fee, so beware if you're planning to bring your own bottle!
google avatar

John V.

Yelp
Amazing meal overall. The fish was so soft, salmon was so flavorful, and the otoro never disappoints. If I had to make a critique, id say that the last source with the eel and banana was so bizzare. I'm not sure how they came up with eel and banana, and although ambitious, not too pleasant for me. As for the service, I felt very rushed. They even served one course, and then served again, right as I took a bite from the previous course. If they slowed down a bi, and let their guest enjoy their amazing sushi, the overall experience would be so much better

Yelp
Spectacular experience! This was my second time joining them, and I was afraid that I would be disappointed after a very good first time, but otherwise, everything was at the highest level. Very important: 17 pieces, maybe a bit too much if you are not super hungry. The first time I was at Genki, perhaps I was hungry, but it went super smooth. We took 17 pieces again the second time, and we were so done at number 11 We did not even know how to continue with the rest. Also, perhaps it was the chef's fault because pieces were coming too fast. Our chef served three people, including two of us, and our three seatings finished the first. FOOD Their selection of fish is impressive! I've tried fish that I have never tried before, and everything is incredibly fresh. Each piece we tried was bursting with flavor. One thing: my second time dining with them, I was missing a little bit of extra wasabi and perhaps a bit extra sauce in some pieces; we had a different chef this time and obviously a bit different style. But I cannot say anything bad here; it is more about personal preferences. Their menu is seasonal because what I had in August differed from what I had now in April. They also have a great choice of Sake and nonalcoholic drinks. We had baby squid for an appetizer and were afraid to eat it; it was a bit "too alive" but undoubtedly delicious. Also, towards the end of your dinner, they offered to add some extra -- if you like -- but most people are beyond full by the end of 17 courses. SERVICE There is little of service to value here. But one thing I would like to see better is for a chef to explain what type of fish we eat, where it comes from, and talk to us about food, as it's definitely an experience. The first time I was at Genki, we had a bit of a slippery moment because we were 15 minutes late, and they did not want to serve 17 courses, and I had to argue that -- but all went well eventually. AMBIENCE It is a charming space. I liked that it is not shoe box-size; there is a waiting area, which adds some coziness and makes waiting comfortable if you arrive early. Besides the bar seating, there are no other tables. I highly recommend this Omakase spot! As you can see, it has been at the top of my list since I returned there for the second time. I think it is a solid 4-star review (closer to 4.5 stars). The only reason it is not 5 is that I was missing interaction with the chef and the fast timing. Other than that, everything was excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
Had a very satisfying meal at Genki. As many others have said, the quality to price ratio is good, especially for Manhattan. Genki doesn't offer the best omakase I've ever had, but the fish is fresh, the flavor combinations are tasty and creative, and the service is on point. Will it be a leisurely dining experience? No, but they are upfront about the 60 minute reservation, and they deliver on everything they claim they will deliver. You have an option to add on some interesting and decadent looking plates at the end of the tasting menu, but I felt satiated after the 13- piece $75 option. The highlights were: Amber jack, black cod, seared sea bream, and Wagyu with foie gras. The last piece was an unagi dessert with banana. While clever, I would have preferred straight unagi with no dessert at all or just a tiny piece of chocolate. All in all, this is a solid option if you're looking for an intimate and high quality omakase without breaking the bank.
google avatar

Shantel L.

Yelp
Definitely give this place a try if you enjoy being racially profiled and want mediocre, overpriced sushi. My husband and I arrived at our reservation ahead of time but the server decided to seat everyone who arrived after us first. Let me just say, they were not minorities. This set the mood for the rest of the evening. The service continued to be terrible, with the servers coming over to take our drink order 20 minutes after taking everyone else's. The only saving grace for this restaurant are the chefs. They were really nice and super friendly. I will not be recommending this place to anyone. Do better.

Yelp
This restaurant is sooooo amazing. A warm welcome and chill environment. the chef is calm and friendly. I enjoy and love the food so much. O toro with cavirar and yuzu sake is my favorite one. They have a little gift for our anniversary so It's a perfect spot to celebrate anniversary.

Yelp
Super fun and casual spot for omakase near the Washington sq park. I like that it's byob so we brought a bottle of sake to drink with the meal. We got the 13 piece course for $72 and it was a good bang for your buck spot! All the pieces were decently portioned and good! Definitely reserve a spot as they have counter dining. My favorite piece was the tuna caviar one!

Yelp
The service and food are incredible! Highest quality fish!! Striped Jack, Scallop, Uni , Otoro w/ Caviar , A5 Wagyu are so delicious!! .... And what makes me surprise the most is Eel with Banana... it tastes really really good!! Love it!! Btw, Chef and Host they're really friendly! Will be back for sure!!

Yelp
Fast paced with really good quality fish! My boyfriend and I came here for the 17 course omakase for $98. We were in and out of the restaurant within an hour. The place offers BYOB, but you can also order sake. The interior is simple and our chef didn't talk too much. I wish he would explain the cuts of fish more, but he would usually just tell us the name of the fish and move on. The Amadai, Kumamoto Oyster, and Kanpachi were wonderful starters! Nothing beats sashimi. They used house sauces to elevate these courses. Some of my favorite nigiri were the Black Cod, King Salmon, Kinmedai, and of course Otoro! They ended the set with mashed unagi on top of a ripe banana slice. A very unique combination. A sweet and savory end. KEEP IN MIND: They charge $10 for green tea. Our waitress asked us if we'd like tea when we arrived... and we thought it was complimentary. It was not.
google avatar

Ben F.

Yelp
OK omakase spot that fails to stand out but has a few redeeming qualities at a decent value. The first thing I noticed was the lack of vibe overall. There is a simple, long, well lit counter that is not particularly trendy, intimate, etc. The waitstaff checks in on you often but neither they nor the chefs were particularly warm. When we were seated we were offered water, tea, or sake - I was pleasantly surprised to see the sake was complimentary and they refilled my glass as I emptied it. I am not sure if this is always the case. Most importantly the omakase itself was underwhelming and featured some truly odd choices but did have some highlights as well. I was thrown off by the choice of compliment for some courses such as sweet jelly on the scallops and an overpowering balsamic on the fluke. Even the most photogenic add-on, the "gianter", was served on a buttery puff pastry that just washed out all flavor (definitely go with "the kissing" instead). The most disappointing part was the quality of the Uni, in spite of its Hokkaido origin. The best pieces were the Kumamoto oyster, Ebi with yuzu, King Salmon with tomato, Uni+Wagyu+Foie, and Shako (seriously amazing fattiness reminiscent of ocean perch). The dessert, a warm banana slathered in minced Unagi, was shockingly delicious. Overall, you could do worse than 17 pieces and complimentary sake for $98 but if you are a seasoned Omakase goer I would skip over Genki.

Yelp
Honestly this was such a great deal right in the heart of NYU. This was my first time trying omakase and it was quite the experience! I went for the $98 option for 17 pieces, which is a steal; It's also a one hour experience. Located near a college area, I assumed they kept it affordable since the demographic is mostly young crowds. I liked everything, except the Unagi, in which they did something weird and mixed it with banana. I never saw something like this before. And Unagi, which is eel, was the one thing I was really looking forward to because I love love love eel! My favorite however was the Uni, which had an interesting creamy texture. I didn't get to try the Wagyu since it's not Halal, but you do have the option of switching it out for something else. I was seated all the way at the end towards the wall, and it was hard to see what the chef was doing. There wasn't much words from him and he was handling four of us. I initially thought he would kind of walk you through the whole process and be a bit more interactive, like a traditional omakase experience I see on TV. He was still nice though. Place is very clean and efficient.
google avatar

Allie H.

Yelp
This was amazing. Honestly one of the best omakase experiences I've had. All the food was top tier, super fresh, melt in your mouth type food. My ultimate fave was the Waygu and the salmon. Both so unbelievably delicious. Was super cool to see them prepare everything in front of us. The chefs were super cool and explained each dish as they were served. Although each dish was small, together they were very filling! Would recommend a reservation because I'm not sure they so walk ins. Overall this was amazing!
google avatar

Kat T.

Yelp
Such a fun experience! I love how omakases are now playing a bit more with their opening dishes and embracing other asian influences. We had an amazing meal here and our chef, Jay, was hilarious. Thank you so much for the great meal!! I'm sure we will be back.

Yelp
This recently popped up all over my feed so i had to come try it out. We made a reservation for 5PM on Sunday to celebrate finishing the Brooklyn half. We both opted for the 17 piece. We got seated properly and got to eating. The pieces came out quickly and the first 3/4 of the serving was pretty..normal. Not to say they were bad, but I think we had high expectations that weren't met. As others have said, most of the pieces are seared. I feel like you lose the taste and freshness of the fish with this. Some pieces had salsa on them which was slightly weird to me. The black cod piece and the scallop though, those two were definitely *chef's kiss* magnificent. I was really looking forward to the wagyu with uni and foie gras piece and when I finally ate it..was indifferent. The texture was nice but the wagyu seemed a bit ordinary. Service as great though and you do get a good amount for the price along with aycd sake so worth at least a visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Genki Omakase is a solid and affordable omakase spot in NYC. You get 17 pieces of nigiri and AYCD sake for $98. First time at Genki Omakase and I can honestly say that I was impressed with the quality and quantity of the meal from start to finish. Everything tasted fresh. Our chef was also friendly. He talked thru every piece of nigiri placed in front of us. My favorite had to be the wagyu + uni + foie gras combo. It was crazy delicious! Unfortunately, I had to dock off a star because it got pretty rowdy in there on a Tuesday night when some of us just wanted to unwind after a long work day. Three girls from the previous seating stayed behind and continued to drink complimentary sake with the chefs. The chefs also started blasting music thru out the entire restaurant for them as well. It was very difficult for the rest of the customers to hold other conversations. Our chef would also leave occasionally to drink with the girls. I would be more amenable to this during the weekend, but not on a Tuesday night lol.

Yelp
Came to Genki omakase for a casual weekday dinner with a friend. We made the reservation about 2 weeks prior and did not have any trouble picking a good time. We sat at the omakase bar and the service was very nice! The restaurant had good space despite it's location in NY and did not feel crowded at all. The food was very tasty! Each course tasted fresh and yummy. Personally, I prefer the less fermented fish on my sushi and Genki had exactly that. I would say, if you have a big appetite, the omakase may not be enough for you, we had to get some pizza afterwards. But overall this was a very nice experience and we definitely recommend!

Yelp
Very reasonably priced for good omakase. The chef/owner was a great conversationalist who seems genuinely passionate for his work. Ambience is what you'd expect for a small store.

Yelp
So good! Love this for the price. The staff is fantastic. Vibes are great! Solid pieces. Honestly usually able to get a res. Been a few times and will continue to go!

Yelp
Genki omakase is one of the most subpar omakase I've tried in NY, and I've tried 3 other omakases in the 1 week that I'm visiting. Perhaps one of the most egregious and telltale sign of a disappointing omakase is the fact that they were giving out free pieces for 5 star reviews (see 2nd picture sorry it's blurry). I ordered the $98 which is the 17-piece omakase option. Most of the selection was absolutely lackluster, especially the minced unagi on a banana and passing it off as a dessert. Only the King Salmon and A5 Wagyu with Uni and Foie Gras was notably good. Service was less than ideal because server was curt and rushed us into decisions. When we decided to not add on anything else, she was noticeably upset. With $100 budget for omakase, you're 1000% better off spending it at other omakase restaurants. The only redeeming factor is that they have sufficient space for a personalized omakase experience. But for me, quality of food is the most important hence the 2-star review.

Super affordable and reasonable for omakase in NYC! A set of items, 2 menus to choose from. Each bite came out back to back, and before you know it, you nearly finished but you don't want to. I loved how intimate and relaxing the restaurant vibes gave. We also befriended the sushi chefs and they gave us free sake shots LOL a night I won't forget thank you! It's BYOB as well! Great place with friends. Hope to be back soon:)

Yelp
Loved Genki and had a great experience! Jay was so amazing and highly recommend him as the chef! It was a high quality and affordable price point and would definitely go for any special occasion (birthday, anniversary, etc)

Yelp
Day and time of seating : Friday 7:30pm This is a much larger place than the last two omakase places I've gone to in the last month which is a nice surprise as I can appreciate the space. I was dreading sitting close o the bathroom but in the end , it didn't make a big difference. The place is clean , smells nice. We had the 17 courses served by the friendliest and entertaining Sushi chef . He was quite theatrical and really made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I was there with 2 friends and we had a fun time ! For the food, I posted some of my favorite pieces . I think showcasing the actual menu is a nice touch so it's easier to follow what's being served . The pieces were supposed to get better by piece but strangely enough , I like some of the earlier ones served. My favorites are the usual - scallops , salmon , tuna belly , and the last two pieces . This is the 3rd omakase place I've gone to in the last 5-6 weeks so it's hard not to compare . All are good for different reasons . I think the sushi pieces served here are simple and tasty ( at times light on the sauce but I could have asked for more but didn't ). I preferred the fish to have been thoroughly thawed ( on some ). In general , for the ambiance , place , location , food and especially the service , it's well worth the price ! It's a place I would recommend . It's byob ( there's a liquor store close by ) so need not worry . They're a bit more strict with time unlike one of the places that I went to so if you get the 17 pieces , with the time allocated , you would have to eat any additional pieces quickly . I personally like to savor my food so 1 and a half hours would have been ideal .

Yelp
Jay was very accommodating. We talked to him the whole time and was a very good host. We will definitely be going back whenever we are in NY. Probably the best omakase experience I have had in NY.

Yelp
Solid place for omakase! 17 pieces for $98. It was really easy to make a reservation online. BYOB! I recommend making a reservation later in the evening rather when they first open. Some of the pieces of fish were still pretty cold and would have definitely been better thawing for a bit longer. It's a good date night spot and staff were very attentive in topping off our drinks. It's not the best omakase place I've ever been to but it's pretty good given the price and generally, my partner and I left satisfied with our meal.

Yelp
4.5/5 My friend and I came for Friday dinner during one of their first seatings. We opted for their larger $98/17 piece course. Each piece was made to order and served one after the other. All of the pieces were fresh and they definitely didn't skimp on the ingredients - not a ton of rice with thin cuts of fish here! We loved the simple flavor combinations and profiles - nothing too over the top and fancy that took away from the taste of the fish or became a muddled mess with too many flavors thrown in at once. It's also BYOB but they have their own drink selections as well. We made our reservation a week before hand and we're able to get a good seating! The only downside - it felt very rushed. We were able to finish ALL 17 pieces within 30 mins from start to finish. We would've liked to have the pace a bit slower instead of cramming one piece after the next and not really having the chance to savor each bite. Overall, great omakase spot for the price and quality of fish! Check out my foodsta @chiuventure for a closer look and more details of my dining experience here as well as other establishments in NYC and around the world!

Yelp
Affordable omakase in the city! My friend and I made a reservation for 5pm (early dinner) and was seated right away. The pieces were fresh and they served us different kinds of uni (we loved it)! Service was great! Chef Brian was very friendly and joked with us during our meal. He even gave us opportunities to take a pic of his tray of uni and the tray of caviar. My friend and I were actually really full from our meal! We were pretty surprised at how filling it was. Normally we'll order an extra piece or two but we were so stuffed. I wish I had more room for more uni~~ Will recommend for anyone looking for an affordable omakase spot in the city.

Yelp
We got super lucky with the last-minute reservation on Resy for a Friday night spot at 7:30 pm. This is an intimate sushi spot with about 12-16 counter-seats. They offer two menus - $98 for 17 pieces or $75 for 13 pieces. We both decided to get the 17 pieces since that choice also came with a slightly higher quality selection. The place is BYOB, but we didn't know that ahead of time; and since it was raining, we didn't try to venture out. They offered us some house sake, which was literally on the house! Brian was our sushi chef, and we enjoyed chatting with him throughout our meal. After all the pieces were served, we set aside some room for the grand finale - the Gianter and Emily. Both were delicious, but if you need to pick one, the Gianter was the winner. This is also the place to be if you are here for some celebrations. They dimmed the lighting and turned up some music to celebrate birthdays. We were pleasantly surprised with an anniversary shut-out!

Yelp
Great spot for an omakase experience at a more "affordable" price!! I surprised my partner for his birthday dinner here, and it was such a lovely experience. You do need a reservation so make sure to book one before coming in! Seating is at a high bar with hooks for your bag (bonus points!). Ambiance is average, nice decor but nothing tooo spectacular. We opted for the larger $98/17 piece course. The sushi chefs mainly kept to themselves as they were hard at work preparing each dish. Each small group shared 1 sushi chef. The fish was surprisingly fresh and delicious! I really liked the variety of fishes they had on the menu. I couldn't pick a favorite since they were all so delicious. The servers were also attentive and checked-in every now and then for a water refill. We were also gifted complimentary sake which was so amazing and appreciate that added touch :). Since it was my partner's birthday, they also surprised him with a chirashi bowl at the end of the meal. It's funny because they dimmed the lights and played 50 Cent "In Da Club" while presenting him the chirashi bowl with a candle. So cute!! Overall, I'd recommend this place for those looking for a nice omakase without breaking the bank!!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my Valentines dinner at Genki! Our sushi chef was really kind and attentive; he caught on that I'm left-handed as soon as we got our first course and adjusted how he placed the nigiri on my plate so I could grab each piece easily. The ambience is pretty standard for these sub-100 NYC omakase joints, but the restaurant was clean and felt comfortable, so no complaints on that end. Overall the food was very good; there were a couple pieces I didn't care for, but each piece of fish and seafood was fresh, nothing was fishy or bad, and for $98 for 17 pieces, there was a really good amount of higher end and decadent pieces. My favorites of the night were the shima aji, botan ebi, and hokkaido uni, although the uni wagyu foie gras bite was pretty unforgettable, too. Another standard procedure, but they pace the dining time for 1 hour, so keep in mind that you can't really linger. We didn't have a problem with this since we didn't feel rushed and finished our BYOB sake before the last course - their pacing is great. Overall, I think Genki is one of the better sub-$100 omakase spots in the city, and I'd definitely recommend the $98 17-piece course for a special date!

Yelp
The best omakase experience ever!! Chef Kaiyo was talking to us the whole time, honestly made our experience that much better. Quality of everything was great, service was attentive, would come here again for sure. I found the reviews very promising and was so glad our experience lived up to expectations. Can't rave about this place enough! If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would

Yelp
This place definitely doesn't live up to the hype of the reviews. I love omakase and it's always such a fun experience with the artistry behind the combination of ingredients and the quality of those ingredients. Here, it kind of felt rushed and not that special. There were lots of good pieces and I really enjoyed the uni but I've had much better omakase and for lower prices as well. I will say that the servers were so sweet and very attentive. They also have this fun deal where if you post and get a lot of likes you can get an extra piece if you Monday-Thursday. Overall, not terrible but not special and not as affordable as others seem to advertise.

Yelp
I went here to celebrate my partners birthday and the service was absolutely incredible. Everyone who worked there was celebrating by offering us a shot without too much attention from others. I've been to a lot of Omakase spots and this has been by far my favorite in terms of quality and selection. I'm still thinking about the scallops from here. If you've never been to Omakase, I highly recommend this because you'll never want to try any other place !!

Yelp
We made reservations on resy for my friend's birthday. We did the 15 pieces for $68. This was super affordable and one of my favorite omakase spots. The sushi tasted very fresh and the pieces were decent size. We also ended up ordering the gianter, the bottom was super flaky and a little messy just an fyi. The 15 pieces is filling enough and the gianter isn't really needed unless you're really hungry.

Yelp
Officially my new favorite omakase in NYC. I'll take drinking and having a good time at omakase over any club in NYC. The music was great and the food was really good. First off, it's BYOB and there's a liquor store around the corner. Brought a few bottles of wine. When we all arrived, there was a birthday party still going and they were having a great time. The hostess informed us our start time would be delayed, but they were nice enough to open the wine. So we all started drinking early. The birthday party looked fun. They were having a good time and doing shots. I immediately knew this place would be fun. The restaurant has a good play list too. Everyone was drinking and having a great time in there. The staff was so nice. The two waitresses were awesome. They were so attentive and friendly. I loved them! The chefs were taking pictures for everyone and making jokes. The experience was a good time. The Chef was making jokes and entertaining us. We poured him some wine and continued to drink and eat. As far as the omakase, it was really good. Fresh uni. Great wagyu. For the price, the courses were great. It was reasonably priced with fresh ingredients and some of the items were very creative. I think the staff, the BYOB and the prices were the best part. It was a really good time. Honestly, the staff made our group feel like family. There was one particular waitress, the older of the two, who was so friendly and sweet. She was awesome. We tipped extra because the service was superb. This was an easy 5 star. I plan to return.
