Shaw’s Late-Night Fried Chicken Shack Roy Boys Will Close This Month - Eater DC

"George’s Chophouse in Bethesda just closed for good, Bethesda Magazine reports. Restaurateur Ashish Alfred debuted 4935 Bar & Kitchen in the space in 2012, then flipped it into a steakhouse named after his late brother in 2018. George’s (4935 Cordell Avenue) wouldn’t be able to make up the revenue it lost while its second-story events space has been shut down, Alfred tells the pub. He hopes to transfer employees to his two remaining restaurants, locations of Duck Duck Goose in Bethesda and Baltimore." - Tierney Plumb

Review is just for happy hour, have not been for regular service. Steak frites was over cooked, it was a good deal for only$9 so didn’t want to complain, appetizers were just ok, not sure if due to happy hour lower prives they just don’t put the effort. Also, hostess said we could order from table as place was almost empty but waiter then said specials were only at bar and seemed upset we were ordering specials, tab with drinks was still $100...

Was just o.k. Started with happy hour at the bar. Drinks and appetizers were spot on. Had the bone marrow with ragú, came out quickly and tasty. Talked to the staff about dry aged steak, only offering was the porterhouse for two at a high price. Was confused due to description and website quoting dry aged steaks. Wrongly assumed all the steaks offered were dry aged. Ordered prime ribeye and tenderloin. Both steaks were cooked perfectly but cool temperature wise. Steaks come with roasted garlic which is a nice touch. This place does not offer butter, asked and received oil instead. Accompanying salad is a small portion, half a cup. Oysters were good. Staff was polite and informative. Interior is open and clean, live music is a nice touch.

I have to say that this place was absolutely fantastic on both occasions I've been here. The food is inventive, delicious, fresh and high quality. The service is quick, attentive (I literally had my drink refilled 6x during lunch) and the staff was dressed in cool outfits (but not a traditional uniform). The bar looked very cool and I like that they have a happy hour. The tuna was great, the venison fresh and delicious, and the Mac n cheese decadent. But I gotta say that the steak was top notch and the mushrooms we're absolutely amazing. I've had the filet and the ribeye. I'm a local and I will return. I will have all my lunch meetings here. I can't say enough good things. Missing out on this place would be a mistake. Much better than Morton's or Ruth Chris and better priced. I will definitely check out the happy hour.

I recently visited George’s to treat my GF to a birthday dinner. We booked a table via OpenTable which was quick and easy. We arrived at to our 9pm reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant decor was nice and they had live music playing. Our server Jeff was very knowledgeable and attentive. I would highly suggest the ribeye or sirloin steak. The lobster was also very delicious when added to our steak entree. My only suggestion to the overall experience would be for the restaurant to offer fresh bread and butter as a complimentary starter to their guests. I would have even purchased the bread and butter for a small up charge if one was offered. The banana bread pudding was amazing and we were quite pleased with our whole dinner experience. We’ll be visiting again soon!

What a great deal for a simple but very nice and tasty all-you-can-eat weekday prime-rib lunch package in a classic and very tastefully decorated setting! The AYCE selection is limited to a few items, featuring the prime rib, selected sides (in our case it was pasta, roasted potatoes and roasted veggies), a salad bar, a soup of the day and selected fruits. With limited selection, the quality of the food was very good and fresh. The service was top notch, we'll definitely be back!
