Georges Hotel Galata | Best places to stay in Istanbul | Bucket List Travels

"Ever since it opened in 2011, this sophisticated, superbly managed hotel has been recognized as one of Istanbul’s coolest hangouts. Housed in a handsome 19th-century Parisian-style apartment building, it’s located near the Galata Tower in Beyoglu, within easy walking distance of some of the city’s most happening restaurants, art galleries, shops and nightlife.   Inside, Georges is all smart-casual boho chic: a mix of intact original features and spaces stripped back to bare brick, stone or wood. All 20 rooms have balconies, although the best views of all – stretching as far as the Princes’ Islands in the Sea of Marmara – are from the rooftop bar and restaurant, renowned for its exquisite cocktails and contemporary Ottoman cuisine.  It’s one of the best hotels in town for a romantic city break, but families are made to feel just as welcome.  " - Dana Facaros

Google
Fantastic boutique hotel in excellent location for shopping, bookstores, cafe society! Very French, in charm and hospitality and cuisine. Charming boutique hotel Close to Galeta Tower but on a quiet cobbled side street with antique shops & cafes. Lovely rooftop restaurant, perfect for breakfast or dinner or coffee with sweeping view of Golden Horn. Staff is very welcoming and helpful (I didn’t understand the shower!) (the came right up and showed me!) Our room was very comfortable & quiet.

Really lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Galata! I stayed at Georges Hotel Galata for five nights and had a great experience. The location is perfect: steps from Galata Tower and all the energy of Beyoğlu, with Karaköy's waterfront just down the hill. The rooms have beautiful high ceilings that make the space feel elegant and airy. The showers are wonderful, and I loved the thick towels and sheets (plus there's a heated towel warmer, which is a nice touch). PRO TIP: ask for a room on the garden side if you can. The neighbourhood is lively and bustling, but the garden-facing rooms are surprisingly quiet. What really stood out was the service. The concierge staff are genuinely kind and helpful, not just going through the motions. They made reservations at local restaurants for us and gave great recommendations. When I had a plumbing issue in my room, the manager Mr. Serkan personally checked on it multiple times and made sure everything was handled professionally. That level of attention makes a real difference. Oh, and there's a charming resident cat named Lollipop who adds personality to the place The rooftop bar has spectacular views and excellent cocktails. If you're looking for boutique luxury with personal service in the Galata area, I'd definitely recommend Georges Hotel.

Google
My wife and I have spent wonderful time in Georges Hotel. The place is chic and beautiful, the service is very welcoming and helpful. The top terrasse restaurant view and food quality make it difficult to go elsewhere for dining. We've been blessed to discover that hotel. It's location make it so convenient to walk around the city historic neighbouroug and beyond.

Google
A nice boutique hotel. We have had amazing experiences in the previous times I had been there with my wife. However the last time would probably be the last time because the pricing is just absurd. It is the inflation that is the biggest problem, but George Hotel milked this situation for every Cent or Lira in this case. The service is still impeccable, the rooms have so little privacy even with my partner it feels awkward at times, everything is within walking distance which is great, however, I don't think it is worth the price anymore... Value for money is just not there no matter how good of a service they have, the hotel feels worn out a bit, stiched together in places. I still love it, had the best memories years ago. But my last visit a couple of weeks still stings. In all fairness, if all you care about is service and accessibility to everything and price is not an issue nor is privacy. This hotel is for you. Otherwise you are better off somewhere else

Google
Location is absolutely amazing, but we were lied about the room as we reserved a sea view with balcony but have received a “garden” view which smells like cat piss when you open the balcony. They said they have received a different type of reservation by the service provider and were showing a flying paper with a room code which responds to a normal room, which means nothing to us. The rooms have molded floors around the bathroom, smell like mold and the view is non existent. Bathroom ceilings are molded and when you take a shower the whole bathroom area has couple of centimeters of water. The shower was broken as well. The beds are on the lower side of the comfort as well and the room isolation is like a cardboard. Absolutely an awful experience and would not recommend despite the good location. I am leaving pictures so anyone can be a judge (can’t leave the scent unfortunately). It’s a 3 star hotel at the absolute most and don’t know how they got 4… maybe few years ago, but now everything is run down. The manager Georges repeats 10 times how everything can be arranged and have a nice experience, but actually takes no action at all. The staff tries to be nice and helpful but does nothing as well, probably because of management. Note: As a reply to the comment below, since its not possible to respond. We are free to do what we like stay or not, comment or not. Despite the wrong reservation, i left photos which has nothing to do with the reservation but just showing the real image of the hotel. So everyone can be a judge.

Google
We had an awful experience - we paid for a sea view room but we got down to basement (level -1) garden view = no view, cause it is blocked by the neighbouring buildings. The room was pretty run down (obviously it was once a nice hotel, but not anymore), mould was spreading from the bathroom to the bedroom wooden floor, the smell in the room was awfully mouldy. When you open the terrace door/window the smell of cat piss from the yard was so strong you couldn’t sit on the balcony even if you wanted. Generally the room was not clean. The staff was very polite but absolutely incapable of doing anything to revert our disappointment. The hotel is definitely NOT worth the money. The rooftop bar has a nice view but you could easily find a better view on other rooftop bars close by. The cocktails were really not good…

Google
Georges is a lovely small hotel located in the heart of Galata. The only reason I awarded 4 points only is that it is slowly becoming a bit worn out. (You can say it has a "French charm," however... ) The top floors and the terrace have excellent views; however, even the lower garden-facing rooms with the terrace are an excellent option. Peaceful in a crazy Istanbul. The staff is highly responsive, fixing issues immediately. For foodies: a perfect starting point to explore nearby extraordinary restaurants on foot.

Google
Everyone on the team was genuinely friendly. The view of the Bosphorus and Golden Horn from the rooftop is unforgettable. Located in the charming area of Galata, Istanbul, it didn’t feel rehearsed, just honest hospitality. We liked that. Our room was ready early, which was a bonus. We’ll be recommending it for sure.

Yelp
Expensive. So expensive. But you get what you pay for. Greg view, great service, great interior design. Also cus it's on the more expensive end, there's not much people around. It has five live table including ours so it was nice and quiet. We were provided some nuts and dried fruit for free and it really make a big difference in our experience. Wine wasn't the best considering how much they charge but we still enjoyed the time we were there. Seems like they have parties sometimes too so might check it out if I ever come back.

Yelp
June 2023 On June 22/2023, I emailed this hotel informing them that I had to cancel my June 25 reservation because of an immediate family medical emergency. A parent was struck down with a brain aneurysm on 6/22. On June 23 the manager (Fulya) emailed me back telling me he will be charging me for my entire stay because I didn't cancel within the 72-hour window. On June 24 the manager (Fulya) reaffirmed he will be charging me for my full 4-night stay and when I explained that I will be giving him and his hotel a negative review on all my social media he threatens me with a defamation lawsuit. Sharing the truth in public is a right in my county. Looking at my email thread timelines I thought the time between 6/22 and 6/25 was 72 hours. They operantly use different math to calculate 72 hours. I tried to work with them and suggested that I would be ok with being charged 1 night's rent and even suggested to them that I would be ok with a hotel credit for my next trip but all suggestions were rejected. Before booking this hotel beware that under the surface of the faux boutique hotel Fulya and the hotel owners are clearly in it for the money. If you are considering staying at this hotel and happen to have to cancel for any reason know that they will charge you for your entire stay if you are 1 second over the 72-hour policy. To get a sense of who they really are look at the other negative reviews on trip advisor and you will see that the management's response is consistently defensive, threatening, and demeaning. Reading the positive reviews of this hotel you will see that they are happy when you are spending money and have no criticism. This hotel will be happy to take your money, feign interest, fake hospitality, and compassion but know that it all stops at the dollar. They only want your money and they will squeeze it out of you any way they can, even before your stay. Be aware of their fine print and business ethics! This hotel's management and business policies are unscrupulous. It all looks good but scratch the surface and you will see their real intentions. These people basically stole $3000+ from me and they walk away. Shady management and organization. If you decide to stay watch the fine print and double check your bill when you leave. They do have a nice website though!

Yelp
The last 2 of three reviews seem to not match the current state of affairs here at Georges. Our cab driver from the airport, had a hard time finding it, but one of the hotel employee came out on the street to meet us and help our confused cab driver. One we got our room, it's a classic "swank" space with a View of the Bosphorus and golden horn, balcony was very well appointed and very comfortable . Room 11. Ask for it. The restaurant space on the roof is spectacular, and the food, better than it has to be. Roasted lamb over mashed eggplant was delicious. Kids loved the kofte and roasted potatoes. Dumplings and yogurt, very tasty. Stuffed vine leaves were good, as were the celeriac salad. Add two bottles of great reserve cab blends from turkey were excellent, and I'm known to be a wine snob. This place is a gem and it's very unlikely you will be disappointed.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stayed here while vacationing in Turkey November 2020. It's well located, just down the block from the Galata tower. The rooms are very spacious. Upon checkin we were upgraded to a suite that had a private balcony. The best part of our stay was the warm hospitality of Fulya, the general manager. She helped us plan an itinerary for an unforgettable last night in Istanbul: drinks at the Pera Palace Hotel followed by dinner at Aheste. Highly recommend for staying a few nights in Galata.

Yelp
This review is for the rooftop restaurant, not the hotel. The views are STUNNING -- absolutely worth going. The food was refined and well made, if nothing spectacular. It's the perfect place for an afternoon or evening cocktail.

Yelp
Okay... i might be a snob when it comes to boutique hotels... But this was a good but not great experiance. I name this review: "Thank you My Love!" Good's: 1. Location-Location-Location baby! ...great location... 2. Very vriendly staff!! 3. The roof terrace!!! Intimate at night, bright views for the morning. 4. A great looking bed....(just wait, i have more to say) 5. The rooms with a few? Take it! 6. The restaurant (roof) is tres bien! ...little bit sad that they dont serve local fish (dudes, we are right at the water...) but i enjoyed a beautiful tuna tartar and a very drunk duck (coq au vin) sooooo tender, yum! They have a very good winelist. Not so goods: 1. The friendly staff, remind me of Manuel from Faulty Towers.... love to help, suck at it. 2. The great looking bed is not "natural", we got very very hot (it was good...) but we stayed hot! It didnt breath :( 3. There was a problem with the sewage, it smelled!! We could change rooms, but only on the third (and last) night, but had to pay €50 extra for a different room...got to give it: with a really amaaaaazing few! ...but really? We pay extra because of your problem? Thanks pal. 4. The bar downstairs doesnt happen...at all. Just looks cool to walk into a bar, and go passed the big curtains to a "hidden" hotel. ..perhaps in summer time, the lobby/bar downstairs has people, now it was just too cold to sit in. First weekend together, without our new born: Thank you My Love!

Yelp
We had pre-dinner drinks here. Beautiful rooftop view. Worth it just to do that. Manhattan ordered was sort of an old fashioned, i.e. don't order a Manhattan. People in the lobby downstairs were super accommodating. Neighborhood is amazing!

Yelp
As a tour guide this is a hotel that I can suggest because of its great location with very good views of the town and just at the feet of Galata Tower which is now today like the sacre coeur of Paris. As regards the price and rooms I don't have any clue but I can say that whenever I went there to meet my clients the staff had always been very helpful to all of us. The three stars is only because I have not enough information as regards price and comfort.

Yelp
Mediocre food. Great views. You're paying for the view. Life would be just fine if you skipped this place.
