The 19 Best Restaurants In North Beach And Little Italy - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Ask us what our perfect middle-of-the-week dinner spot looks like and we’ll offer up Georgian Cheese Boat. The Georgian spot is pumping out perfect boat-shaped khachapuri, refreshing salads, soups, grilled chicken and lamb, and gigantic khinkali. If they were serving those soup and meat-filled dumplings in the middle of the Bay Bridge at rush hour, we’d still send you there. For a hyper-casual spot (you order on a big screen by the bar), this place has a lot of perks: quick service, cozy charm, and a great selection of Georgian wines. A not-so-fun perk: inevitably fighting over the leftovers." - julia chen 1, lani conway, patrick wong

The 16 Best Dumpling Spots In SF

"Ordering the khinkali from this Georgian restaurant in North Beach will transport you to a higher plane of existence. The jumbo, sack-like pockets with the thick knotted tops are brothy and perfect. Get the lamb or beef version for maximum juiciness. But you can’t go wrong with the velvety potato-filled ones, either. Order at the self-service kiosk and feel free to get tap happy—some Georgian wine and a bread boat filled with tangy melted cheese, butter, and egg should accompany your dumplings." - julia chen 1, lani conway, patrick wong

Georgian Cheese Boat - Review - North Beach - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"We submit Georgian Cheese Boat as the perfect casual dinner spot. This North Beach place (the city’s only Georgian restaurant) is brimming with perks you didn’t know you needed: quick service, homey charm, and a fun selection of Georgian wines. If Cheese Boat was located in the middle of the Bay Bridge at rush hour, we’d still send you there. Another perk: leftovers. They're guaranteed since you’ll probably get tap-happy at the tad awkward (but efficient) self-service kiosk, which includes a digital screen and pictures of every dish. You won’t regret ordering too much since the traditional homestyle food is so good, and the streamlined process will make you giddy about all the salads, sausages, stews, and khachapuri heading your way. photo credit: Melissa Zink photo credit: Melissa Zink photo credit: Melissa Zink Speaking of khachapuri, this spot’s namesake dish—a bread boat filled with tangy melted cheese, butter, and egg—is incredible. As are the juicy beef and lamb khinkali full of rich broth. Since this is the place to order enough food to feed a baseball league, be sure the following are on the table, too: the phkali, a puréed, walnut-based salad with minced vegetables (get it with a side of bread), the golden-fried cornish game hen, and the gooey cheese-stuffed puffed penovani. Drinking wine (just $10-$13 a glass), preferably while catching up with your tablemates, is a non-negotiable. Out of Georgian Cheese Boat’s many superpowers, one we admire the most is its versatility. It’s casual enough for you to just stroll in (no reservations here), but also ideally suited for cute date nights—just so long as you’re OK with having to wait for someone to finish tippity-tapping at the ordering station. photo credit: Melissa Zink photo credit: Melissa Zink Food Rundown photo credit: Melissa Zink Khinkali Do you want to reach the next plane of existence? Order these. The jumbo dumplings with the thick knotted tops are brothy and perfect. Get the lamb or beef version for maximum juiciness. But you can’t go wrong with the velvety potato-filled ones, either. photo credit: Melissa Zink Khachapuri The all-stars of Georgian Cheese Boat, and they must be on your table. There are a variety to choose from, like spinach or bacon acharuli khachapuri, bean-filled lobiani, and the cheese-filled puff pastry known as penovani. We like the acharuli classic, with its salty tang and perfect crust. Georgian Salad A nice way to cut through all the richness of the cheesy breads you’re going to encounter here. It’s a simple, herby medley of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and cilantro. Chicken Tabaka This cornish game hen is butterflied and pan-fried until it gets a golden-brown crust. The skin is wonderfully crispy, and the meat is juicy. This is a lovely entrée to share. photo credit: Melissa Zink Phkali Combo The traditional Georgian dish makes for a great starter. It’s made with minced beets, spinach, and carrots. The combo also comes with a few satisfying tolma and rolled eggplants topped with a creamy sauce. photo credit: Melissa Zink Kupati We’re not the biggest fans of this dry and grainy beef sausage. But, it’s served with well-seasoned hand-cut fries that are perfectly crisp. Savory Crepes The crepes come in mushroom or beef. The mushroom is earthy and light, but the beef version has much more depth of flavor." - Lani Conway

Food takes a while because it's freshly handmade. A bit on the pricey side, but hollllllyyyy cheese is it delicious. Highly recommend the combo platter to try a little bit of everything. Getting one main side would have been too much of the same thing. We got the cheese boat with an egg and it was delicious. The mushrooms? Heavenly. All of it was very light yet filling. Perfect for a walk around Chinatown! The pear drink and the compote drinks paired p e r f e c t l y with everything. We were stuffed by the end of it and forgot we ordered the dessert to try. The thick slice looked scary dense. I tell ya what, it was perfect. Light and flaky, more like a crumbly pastry. The perfect top to an incredible meal.

Cheese Boat is a cozy little gem in San Francisco serving up truly authentic Georgian cuisine. Every dish we tried was excellent — full of bold, comforting flavors that instantly transported us. We ended up sharing a generous spread of appetizers because it was impossible to choose just one. The stuffed dumplings were tender and flavorful, the khachapuri was everything you'd hope for (cheesy, rich, and satisfying), and the pkhali was wonderful. The space itself is small and inviting — perfect for a relaxed evening with friends. And the Georgian pear soda was the perfect finishing touch, light and refreshing for a hearty meal. If you’re curious about Georgian food or already a fan, Cheese Boat is definitely worth the visit.

Google
We found this Georgian cheese boat restaurant and were very excited to visit. We gathered few friends and had a very fun nice dinner. It was so much fun trying so many different plates of food. Some of the food was a bit salty but overall it was delicious, and service was excellent. Definitely will visit again.

I was blown away by this place. It’s like I just flew to Georgia (the country not the state) and went to food heaven. Everything here was delicious, fresh and flavorful. Try any of the breads with the cheese or the veggie combo. Blew me away! (And I don’t say that lightly) also the dumplings are to die for! Just come with a large appetite because everything is very filling but get ready to take home lunch for tomorrow ;) I say by the window and had the best seat in the house.

I was absolutely enchanted by this place. The food was incredible, overflowing with vibrant flavors. The service was remarkable, just like true Georgian hospitality promises. And the lamb khinkali? Pure bliss! I'm already eager for my next visit and will be spreading the word about this gem to all my friends.

I arrived at your restaurant at 9:00pm, and your official website clearly says you’re open until 10:00pm. I wasn’t planning to dine in — I just wanted to place a quick takeout order. But I wasn’t even given a chance to speak — I was immediately told that the restaurant was closed. This was my first time coming to your place — and definitely the last. The way I was treated was extremely disappointing. If you plan to close earlier than posted, you should update your hours officially on all platforms so people don’t waste their time. Thank you for ruining my evening and my mood.

Yelp
For our anniversary, I had been dreaming of eating khachapuri for almost a year, so we decided to celebrate at a Georgian restaurant. I highly recommend trying the Georgian beer--it was a surprise favorite for me! I usually don't enjoy beer, but this one was so good that I wanted to have it at home. Every dish we tried was delicious, and we left feeling happy and satisfied. The service was pleasantly polite. We'll definitely be back! P.S. If I had to mention a downside, it would be the lighting, which felt a bit dim.

Yelp
Delicious traditional Georgian place in the heart of San Francisco, with the only downside being the high prices. I walked here from the financial district and sat at the bar. I had some lamb khinkali, which are like the Georgian dumpling versions of xiao long bao. You could see them being handformed from behing the bar and they were pretty delicious, but so steeply priced. I wanted to order a cheese boat, but with it being over $25 for a little bread/cheese bowl, I opted to skip that and get the vegan eggplant stew to eat with the dumplings. It was served with a little bit of bread and overall, seemed like a delicious and healthy meal, albeit the portion was also a little small. I would have loved to order more, but I think if you're dining solo - this is a bit of a tough spot unless you're willing to splurge $75-100 to try multiple things, otherwise their prices really limit you to stick with just a few items. Service was fine. Overall, if you want to try some Georgian food- give this place a shot!

Yelp
this food is PHENOMENAL. the classic cheese boat rocked my world, a cheese lovers absolute DREAM - gooey, umami, rich, flavorful, salty. to my surprise, not many people were there. i think some improvements to the ambiance would make this place a hit. #1: adding some music! it was dead quiet. music would help set the energy of the restaurant and fill the silence. #2: fixing the lighting. there is a large aggressive overhead lamp at the end that makes the place feel like a doctors office in the one corner. adding some interesting lamps would make the restaurant feel more sexy and ease the overall tone. the store front is already so cute so fixing the lighting to match that energy would help make customers feel more excited to hang out and eat there !

Yelp
I've been a coming to this restaurant for a long time, and bringing my friends here, and it used to be my favorite takeout spot since I love Georgian food and this is the only Georgian restaurant in SF. Unfortunately, after my last experience, I'm scared to eat here again. I ordered beef khinkali takeout, but the moment I took a bite, I could taste lamb. Since I have an allergy to lamb, I immediately called the restaurant to verify. Instead of acknowledging the possibility of a mix-up, they insisted there was no way it could be lamb. I even asked if maybe the beef and lamb were cooked together, or in the same pot, but they flat-out denied it. Unfortunately, my body doesn't lie--I had an allergic reaction after eating just half of one khinkali. I was hoping that maybe only one dumpling had lamb in it and the rest didn't, so I asked my boyfriend to taste them. He confirmed that they all tasted like lamb. Even though the restaurant reassured me over the phone that it was beef, I couldn't bring myself to eat the rest because I knew it wasn't. I can recognize even the smallest amount of lamb in my food--it triggers a gag reflex immediately--and this was definitely lamb. What made this even worse was how dismissive the owner sounded over the phone, making me feel like I was imagining things rather than taking my concern seriously. This experience has completely broken my trust. I grew up eating Georgian food, and this place used to be a favorite, but I can't risk eating here again if they mix up their meats and refuse to acknowledge it. Mistakes happen, but how a restaurant handles them matters--and this time, they completely failed.

Yelp
Stopped by Georgian Cheese Boat and had the lamb soup and a cheese boat. The soup ($26) was solid--good flavor, tender meat, and came with fresh bread. It was the standout of the two. The cheese boat ($25) was... kind of exactly what you'd expect. Buttery, cheesy, flaky, rich. Not bad, but should try if you're here. Decent spot overall. Worth trying if you're curious.

Yelp
Got the ajapsandali (eggplant, tomato, zucchini, bell pepper, potato stew), acharuli (cheeseboat), lobio (pinto beans), beef kebab, and khinkali (dumplings), as well as some Qvevri (fermented in a clay pot underground) amber wine. The khinkali dough was a bit too thick but you can bite off the top and not eat that dough and just sip the delicious juice. The beef kebab could have been moister and more flavorful, and the acharuli cheeseboat was a bit too salty, but the lobio and ajapsandali were wonderful, and amber wine completed the meal perfectly. Overall an authentic place with good prices!

Yelp
My friend and I came here recently during Fleet Week. After walking around North Beach we decided to pop into Georgian Cheese Boat for dinner. The first thing we noticed, very Pink interior. We decided to sit by the window and people watch. My friend was interested in trying the Rkatsiteli Qeveri, a type of amber wine buried underground in an earthenware pot, some for up to 50 years. So we ordered that. Next I wanted to try their Khinkali (dumplings), but they were sold out that day. Bummer. So we got an order of the Chicken Kebab instead. Next, we got the Khachapuri which is a traditional Georgian dish of cheese-filled bread and what this restaurant is named after. Loved the cheesy khachapuri and the wine. The chicken kebab was okay, not that memorable. Would come back to try the dumplings tho. Service was okay. Located on Grant Ave between Columbus and the small Fresno Street.

Yelp
I loved trying different types of authentic eats and drinks from around the world. Trying what's new from certain countries that gained least amount of attention was one of my specialties that broaden my horizons. But there are times when I choose the food that looks good and taste good. Though I was out of the comfort zone, I'm still careful into what I eat and drink. Georgian Cheese Boat was one restaurant that still need more attention. Authenticity is what I expected the most in a whole new different restaurant. Phkali Beets was one of the best appetizers when it comes to amazing presentation and good quality. The heart shaped beet loaf was savory and satisfying. Spinach Khachapuri was like pizza, but in a different form. While the dough was crispy and on point, the creamy spinach with the butter in the center was delectable. Saving the best for last was the organic red pear with vanilla and chocolate cream. Looked like ice cream before they melted but it's not, this one definitely surprised me. I almost cracked the plate when I tried to split the pear in half (lol). What really tasted the difference was the Georgian wine syrup. That's what I call adventure! I highly recommend Georgian Cheese Boat for everyone who's always out of the comfort zone. There could be another Georgian restaurant somewhere throughout the Bay Area. Here in North Beach is one of the unique places you can bookmark in advance.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in SF!! Has such a home-y feel and the owner/waiter/cashier is just the best person - my friend was visiting from out of town and he connected her with his daughter that happens to live in the same city! We had a blast chatting with him. On top of that, the food is INCREDIBLE. So fresh and authentic, tastes like someone's grandma made it specifically for you. Definitely get one of the cheese boats - it's so simple, yet not like anything I've ever tasted before. We also had the Minced Kebab and Georgian Salad as recommended - what a delicious, comforting meal!! Also try the Rkatsiteli Qvevri amber wine! An affordable bottle, but so delicious. I can't wait to come back here and bring more people!!

Yelp
We came here as I'd had their food before (delivered during the pandemic era) and was craving Georgian. Amazing and authentic food! We got the kharcho, two servings of the lamb khinkali, pickled veggies, and of course the khachapuri (cheese bread), with some dry Georgian red wine. The service was solid-- reasonably quick, efficient, and the server was polite. The ambiance is casual and intimate, with small tables and dim lighting. Would definitely come here again!!!

Yelp
First time trying Georgian food and it did not disappoint. This place is a small mom and pop shop and I almost missed it, but I saw the cheese boat as a menu outside and had to try it. To my surprise- it's better than you're thinking :) my party and I ordered a couple things - Georgian dumplings, sausage and potatoes, and a variety of the cheese boats. The waiter was kind to show us how to eat the dumplings the right way. Everything was so delicious and breaks my heart I'm too far away to come back regularly. If you are in the area, definitely check the place out- I recommend the dumplings and the cheese boat! 10/10

Yelp
I'd been wanting to try this spot for a while and it was nice to finally visit. Georgian food is not always easy to find, so I'm glad this spot is in a central neighborhood in San Francisco. The first thing I tried was the Beef Khinkali, which ended up being very good dumplings. The ratio of beef to dough was ideal. The meat was tender and seasoned very well. The next item I had was the Acharuli Khachapuri, which was just okay. I've had this dish many times (in the US and in Georgia) and this was not as good as other versions I've tried. I still appreciated the cheese and butter, the bread just seemed a little thin. We also had the Georgian Salad and that was nice - bright, fresh and flavorful. During our meal we also enjoyed a nice bottle of the Kindzmarauli, Teliani Valley and that went well with the entire meal. The place is very casual and cozy. The service was a bit hit-or-miss, but overall was fine. On my next visit, I'd definitely try different items from their extensive menu.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Georgian food and it definitely won't be my last. My girlfriend and I stopped by here for a late lunch yesterday. We arrived and were around 1:30 PM and were promptly seated and given menus to order. The restaurant itself is quaint - it has a couple of small tables that can seat from 2-4 people. It's in a vibrant neighborhood and the overall atmosphere was pleasant. Our server was also friendly, efficient (I believe he was working solo), and very helpful. For our meal we got an order of the ajapsandali (veggie stew), an order of the mushroom khinkali, and a spinach cheese boat. Everything we got was solid and flavors were well balanced. My girlfriend absolutely loved the ajapsandali. It was a tomatoey stew with eggplant, carrots, potatoes and herbs. It was a minimalist dish in the best way possible - the fresh ingredients really did the heavy lifting of the flavor here. The highlight for me was the cheese boat we got. It was herby, and the type of cheese used was tangy and salty. Lastly, the mushroom dumplings were solid. The filling was earthy and had an umami flavor and the wrappers were tender. I think a condiment would've paired nicely with it but on their own they were solid too. All in all, we enjoyed our meal at Georgian Cheese Boat and I'd definitely make a stop back to try some of the meat dishes and other items in the menu.

Yelp
Fantastic, delicious, mouth watering food. I arrived early and the waitstaff was kind and welcoming. I sat peacefully at my table with a glass of amber wine and a book before my friends showed up. We ordered their chakapuli (lamb with tarragon and plum), ajapsandali (eggplant stew), and one of their cheese boats, the one with the smokey cheese on top. Other than amazing flavor, along with nice crusty bread, the food came out pipping hot. The atmosphere was lively with good conversation filled with savory foods and gooey cheese. We ended with dessert. The napoleon was nice and flakey with a sizable amount of cream. The honey cake was light and not overly sweet, but still had the flavor of the honey. And the best surprise was probably Tamari's Favorite, poached pears in wine topped with cream and mint decorated with honey and pistachios. 10/10 would go back and see myself returning often. Lovely.

Yelp
I read about this place before my most recent trip to North Beach and I had to stop by to check it out. I had never heard of a restaurant that serves Georgian food. We ordered the Bacon Acharuli Cheese boat. It was amazing, really flavorful cheese, bacon, and a sunny side up egg on top. The bread was super fresh, it was sort of a big meat danish pastry or an oblong pizza. We also ordered Georgian beer and wine, which were great. The ambience and the entire experience felt like a trip to a foreign country where they speak English also. We would have ordered more food, but we were saving room for dinner later. The waiter was Georgian and recommended the homemade sausage and fries for next time.

Yelp
Really cool spot to try Georgian food! My first experience with Georgian cuisine, seemed to have a good overlap with Czech and Polish cuisine which was great for me. Ordered their Original cheese boat (cheese and bread, how can you go wrong!) and their garlic chicken dish, I found it tasty, but it is very garlicky, so buyer beware! Service was good, space was perfect for a casual dinner and this place will definitely enter into my list of standing locations for food in the north beach.

Yelp
Of the Georgian food restaurants I've tried, this is my favorite. Unlike the others, it offers more variety (especially vegetarian options!), larger portions, and more affordable prices. The service is very good, and the food has perfect seasoning. The place is small but meets the basics, has ventilation, and is clean. I will definitely come back to try more of their menu. For lunch, I had: -Acharuli Khachapuri - Bacon (Classic cheeseboat with crispy bacon) -AJAPSANDALI (Vegetarian stew with eggplant, tomato, zucchini, bell pepper, potato, fresh herbs) -KHINKALI - Georgian Dumplings (mushrooms) -CHAKHOKHBILI MEATBALLS (Chicken stew meatballs in a tomato and veggie creamy sauce) -Honey cake

Yelp
We ordered chicken soup. My daughter couldn't eat it, I tried it and it tasted like vinegar or sour spoiled broth. We told the waiter about it. He said that he tried it today and that's always his taste. Chicken soup you can never go wrong if it's spoiled. But no one apologized. We also ordered khinkali and the meat from the khinkali was definitely not fresh. The next morning we tried to heat it up and eat it, but we couldn't, we just had to throw it away. The products that are used here are definitely spoiled. And when I write a review I decided that I will complain to government agencies so that we don't have low-quality restaurants. Khachapuri and kebab were fresh and tasty.

Yelp
Follow my substack, Eatdraweat to find out what I recommend eating here, more detailed food reviews, and food art! https://open.substack.com/pub/eatdraweat --------------- Food - 5/5 We tried the Acharuli classic and Phkali combo. We've only been here once, but everything we tried was spot-on and delicious. Service - 5/5 Service is quick, straightforward, and pretty hands-off. We went during a quiet time, and the servers mainly stayed in the kitchen. This will suit you perfectly if you're not looking for menu breakdowns or face time! Ambiance - 4.5/5 Georgian Cheese Boat is a cozy, no-frills spot with a homely vibe. It might not be ideal for a fancy date night, but it's perfect for a casual, comfortable meal with friends or family.

Yelp
The place is good overall. The food is authentic and our party of 5 liked everything we ordered. The service was a bit slow this and for our reservation we got only 4 seats ready and when the last person from our friend group showed up the waiter was not too helpful in fixing the problem (bringing another chair etc) because there was another reservation for 6 right next to our table. We ended up squeezing 3 people on the bench and 2 at the opposite side of the table on chairs.

Yelp
This place was a pleasant surprise. We ordered a variety of foods (never having eaten Georgian food before) and it was super yummy. The restaurant is not very busy so you can easily visit without a reservation. Be warned they are blasting music at all times but it adds to the fun vibes. The meal was good but honestly the main stars were the desserts! Overall, I think it was a bit overpriced, we wanted a casual comfort meal but left with a $100+ bill.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Georgian food, and it was a pretty good experience! My partner and I shared the classic khachapuri and lamb khinkali  (6 huge pieces per order), which was enough food for two hungry people. The khachapuri was good, but I was surprised that it wasn't as cheesy as it looked. It was also a bit too salty for us. But the dough was absolutely delicious, buttery, and had a great pastry-like texture. The lamb khinkali (Georgian dumplings) were tasty and very juicy. These were so good! I'd recommend giving this place a try if you're even remotely interested in trying Georgian food.

Yelp
This is my first time Georgian food! So excited. This restaurant is located at north beach. There is street parking or public parking. I found a public parking $4/hr. We went to the restaurant on Monday night but it was packed. Luckily we had a table. The owner took menu and served. He was nice and friendly. We ordered classic cheese boat, vegetarian stew, chicken cooked in milk and chicken matsuadi. Very healthy and tasty! Also we ordered dessert "napoleon " . It was good. Not too sweet and like Millefeuille. There is some cute pictures on the wall. We enjoyed new taste!

Yelp
My friend saw it on a map and said "what the heck is a Georgian Cheese Boat?" I actually used to live across the street from a Georgian restaurant, so I was actually able to explain to him what Georgian chachapuri is - basically, imagine a pizza with a high crust, and lots of very eggy cheese in the middle. I suppose it does kind of look like a boat. Also I looked at the menu and the prices were surprisingly reasonable for a restaurant in San Francisco, one of the most expensive cities in the world, a plus! It's not actually cheap, but it's cheap by SF standards. Anyways, the service was absolutely wonderful - they were even nice enough to randomly just lend my friend a phone charger because his iPhone was dying (smh imagine being an Apple user, couldn't be me). Service was extremely fast, though part of that is because you order by using an iPad they set up in the front. That being said, it also made it very easy to just keep ordering more dishes...which was a choice. The food was also excellent, and I'm going to run through each dish I had. The fact that I can remember almost all of them months after I ate here is an incredible testament to the restaurant, by the way. Bacon Acharuli Khachapuri - my friend wanted the cheeseboat with bacon. I honestly think there are few foods improved by bacon and I ended up actually sliding most of the bacon into his side of the boat. That being said, the cheese boat was fantastic. Incredibly warm, soft, and flavorful - in a way where the cheese and egg flavor almost seemed to soak into the warm, inviting bread. That being said, I was expecting this dish to be good, because the restaurant is literally named after this dish. Though that is not always a guarentee - I once tried to buy a coat at a Burlington Coat Factory and was told they don't sell boats. I still think about this to this day. Chakapuli - a very herbal, flavored lamb "stew." I'm not entirely sure I'd call it a stew, it was more lamb chunks with a generous heaping of herbal sauces. The sauce was definitely not something you would drink, though it was something to dip bread into. Anyways, delicious, complex, and unusual flavor. Definitely recommended for more adventurous eaters who enjoy more herbal seasonings. Megruli - more cheese bread. It's got cheese inside and outside. The flavor profile is very good. Less eggy than the cheese boat - and also much much easier to eat (you just take slices out like it's a pizza). If only American pizza was like this... Kupati - Georgian sausages. Very large, very very large and filling. The outside of snappy - you could feel when you bit through the sausage casing. The inside was somewhat dry, like you were eating spiced dry meat. Also very tasty and unique. Unlike many sausages, I think you can eat it by itself - the flavor is present but not overpowering. Comes with a sweet sauce you can dip it into (recommended!) Shkmeruli - A milk chicken dish. Comes with a very nice bread. Hearty, filling, chicken dish. Very recommended if you want something milky or creamy - but not too overpowering or heavy. Lobio - basically mashed pinto beans mixed with herbs and spices and all kinds of things. Comes with bread and pickled veggies on the side. Beans are a miracle food and so is Lobio. All three of these foods go together great! Also highly recommend the hot adjika sauce - absolutely a great thing to dip meat dishes in. Probably one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco - can't wait to be back!

Yelp
Exploring North Beach has been one of my new years' resolutions for 2023 and I've been eyeing Georgian Cheese Boat for awhile. I am not familiar with Georgian cuisine so I cannot attest to its authenticity. What I can say is that I enjoyed it and that I want to come back again. The menu says the food is best shared and that's what my friend and I did. We shared potato dumplings and a spinach cheeseboard. The spinach cheese boat was really yummy! It reminded me of a similar Turkish bread that is also filled, but this one was wider. The spinach was cooked down perfectly and went well with the cheese. The bread has a good crust but it was still soft. I also felt I made a healthy choice because of the spinach lol. The potato dumplings were good. The dumpling skin wasn't too thick and the potatoes were silky smooth and flavored with a touch of salt. Service was really friendly. I believe the owner was the one who rung up the bill and he was fun to talk with. The space is small and welcoming. I love the art on the wall and the music they were playing. What I also liked was that I felt like I was in Europe. My friend and I ordered soda and it didn't come with ice. I liked that because I know ice is a very American. It's the little things like that which makes the space feel homey. I definitely want to come back again to try their bacon and egg cheese boat. That sounds like a lovely brunch option before exploring North Beach.

Yelp
Order yourself using the kiosk at the counter. Then take a seat and you'll be served. I didn't quite understand the process. The beef kebabs were so delicious. Sadly the mashed potatoes they came with were cold. The cheese boat was ok. Maybe had I tried a different one with more toppings I would have liked it. Had really sweet Georgian wine. The place was quiet and clean with only two employees. One was the chef I'm presuming and the lady was managing the front. I'm glad I came across this place.

Yelp
Great place to grab a bite to eat, Food was very good and it definitely was a nice change for me. The wine pairs well with the dishes. Casual atmosphere and sevice was fine . Nothing fancy but solid dishes. We were a party of three and shared a couple of meals. Look forward to coming back.

Yelp
First time trying Georgian cuisine after seeing it online, I really enjoyed the food! Acharuli classic: A+ This is what I came here to try and it didn't disappoint. Super fluffy bread with intense fatty flavor on top with the egg yolk, butter, and cheese. Acharuli spinach: A Also delicious but the classic is more intense in flavor. Khinkali mushroom: B+ Interesting take on a dumpling, stuffed with a lot of filling. Mushroom I thought was better than the beef. Khinkali beef: B Eggplant rolls: B Didn't know what to expect since this was listed as a salad, but I liked the walnut pesto. Ajapsadali: B- Veggie stew, was okay. I imagine with some rice or the bread would be better than by itself. Kupati: B- Sausage very flavorful but kind of dry. Unique tangy sauce and good potatoes. Lobio: A+ Like a more well seasoned refried beans dish, actually was quite delicious!

Yelp
Casual cozy spot with delicious food for a super good price. On a weekday dinner we were seated immediately with friendly and quick service. The khinkali were huge and a delicious appetizer easy to share. The grilled fish was light and cooked nicely, not too heavy of a meat dish (potatoes were so good too). I loved the khachapuri the best of everything we tried - even though we just got the cheese and potato one, it was so flavorful and addicting with perfect texture. Even when we brought leftovers back home and reheated, it was just as good. I want to come back and try all the different flavors! Parking is very difficult since it's north beach, but close enough to the Vallejo st garage. Everything came out quickly and the staff were very attentive. Such a cute restaurant with unique cuisine!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came by on a Saturday night and were lucky to snag a table as the restaurant was getting quite crowded! The interior is cute with pink walls and various wall art. The space is relatively small, but it looks like they are able to accommodate for larger parties. This was both of our first times trying Georgian food and so we tried to order a good mix of things. We started with the combo salad which includes dolmas, roasted pepper, eggplant, as well as a variety of dips. This was SO refreshing and probably my favorite dish of the night! We then moved on to the spinach khachapuri which was decadent and savory. The portion is quite large and given the heaviness, I think it's best split between 3-4. We ended with the beef sausage - while we both thought the sausage and the sauce were spiced nicely, the meat was quite dry and so we probably would not come back for this. Overall though, we had a great meal and look forward to trying some of their other menu items (and coming back for that combo salad!!)

Yelp
What a great meal! Loved the khachapuri and combo salad plate with all of our favorite pkhali! Saperavi and Kindzmaruli wine rounded out the meal! Don't walk by this hidden gem in San Francisco!

Yelp
I had this type of cuisine once before in Seattle due to my obsession with cheese which you can read my review at Skalka. Since this is a rare cuisine from the country of Georgia. Georgian food is one of the world's most underrated cuisines with similarities with various national cuisines of the Caucasus, the Middle East and the wider Eastern Europe. Georgia was one of the countries on the Silk Road and has its own distinct style of food preparation. I wanted to give Gregorian food another chance since the menu in SF is much broader. Luckily my friend was willing to try something new so we shared our dishes. We ordered the CLASSIC Acharuli Khachapuri that is an open boat shape (cheeseboat), with melted cheese, an egg, and a pat of butter. It was nice, light and crispy and not oily. Nice mild flavors. Lamb Khinkali Georgian Dumplings Serving Size - 4 pieces that I enjoyed the most as it reminded me of Xiao Long Bao, the Chinese Soup Dumpling, but the skin is thicker and you suppose to hold it at its dumpling stem to grab and eat it. It was fun to eat, but I still prefer the Chinese thinner skin dumpling, but it was fun to try. To be adventurous and not get the chicken dish, we tried the BLACKBERY GLAZED QUAIL Two whole quails served with fried potatoes. Very interesting taste and was a little messy to eat with you hands. I can say it is probably one of my first time eating a quail. It looks like a squab which I ate before in Chinese banquets. The twin quails does look cute sitting and ready to be eaten on the plate LoL it had nice light black berry flavoring. Something uniquely to try for sure. It is an expensive cuisine and I knew that going into it because finding this type of food is difficult. Only one nice gentleman server and he told as as we first entered restaurant to order at the single kiosk at the bar counter. Easy to order and pay right there and once the order goes in, the server will bring food out. So you just pick a table to wait for the food to be served to you. Atmosphere is nice and use of mirrors makes the restaurant look bigger which is a nice touch. It's very hard to describe the taste of Gregorian food because it does have its own distinctive that is unique and worth the trip to try at least once. They have quite the variety of the menu for sure and pictures of food to show what it looks like.

Yelp
This place condones violence against women and is not safe. Me and my wife went there and witnessed a male customer getting in the face of an older women who was at the next table The staff not only did not throw out the man, they proceeded to serve him alcohol. I told the staff I was going to call the police and the waiter asked me not to. We asked for our check right away and left without finishing our meal. In the video, you can hear a woman who was obviously drunk and with the aggressive man yelling at the table with older people. This was right before the incident

Yelp
I've been there a few Fridays ago, alone, craving the whole week for some Georgian food I used to eat on a daily basis. I've been there a few times before in summer of 2024 and fall, decided to visit again cause I liked the dishes. So I was planning a week before, spent 2,5 hours on transit just to get there and order a BACON CHEESE BOAT (acharuli bacon). I LOVED their boats so I was hopeful to get another banger to save my week. So I got my boat, and although it looked amazing, after I gave it a try, I literally went into existential crisis and realizing all my past mistakes. I spent $30 on bacon and sensory nightmare (i was prepared for the cheese, but it was much worse). It was HORRIBLE. The cheese was bland and gooey than slimes I used to make as a child from elmers, spells and underbed tooth fairy dust. The whole boat was tasteless except bacon. I added salt and then it was salt and bacon. Every bite reminded me of all the traumas I thought I healed and I even decided to resume my hated exercises after because it was even worse. I left being so disappointed that I couldn't decide on writing a review after because I wanted for emotions to calm down. But, as you can guess, it took weeks because of the shock I felt after eating it. I give it two stars because they were better and the sunset was good. Nothing else.

Yelp
Summary: Solid, hard-to-find Georgian food Details: AFAIK, Georgian food isn't particularly commonplace around here, so that already gives GCB a bit of a leg up in the category, with all the food we got being pretty tasty, but falling short in one way or another: their massive dumplings were a bit too thick at the fold making it hard to chew; the sausages were a tad too gritty; and the kachapurri bread could have benefited from a slightly more toasted/crunchy exterior. That said, all the food was quite tasty despite the various imperfections, and the fact is you still aren't going to find other places in the area that serve this type of cuisine, so it's certainly worth a try! Solid 3.5 stars from me. Accessibility: Unfortunately, in addition to the somewhat less accessible hilliness of the area, the restaurant itself is also up two pretty tall steps, so you're not going to be able to get in with a wheelchair unless you have some help. Once inside, the space has a combination of standard and counter height seating, with plenty of space, so the interior shouldn't pose much issue.

Yelp
Georgian Cheese Boat has been on my list to try, especially since I have been wanting to travel to Georgia (the country) for a while now. And while I haven't been able to actually travel there, I can travel there with my tastebuds and never leave the city! We had reservations on a Sunday but res aren't needed- lots of tables available. On to the food- Mushroom Khinkali - chock full of mushrooms, the dough was thick which is different from what I'm used to. Good flavor. Spinach Cheese Boat- really tasty! Definitely would love to try more flavors. Georgian Beef Sausage- comes with roasted potatoes. Personally I wasn't a fan of the sausage but the potatoes were yummy. Kharcho- Beef soup with a tomato broth. Definitely a good dish to warm you up on a cold SF night. Chikhirtma Chicken Soup- another soup that warmed us up. Honey Cake- OMG, our FAVORITE DISH! So good! Not too sweet. Just the right amount of sweet and creamy. Don't miss this! It can be bit of a challenge to park in the area but we found parking about a block away. I really like how North Beach has an eclectic variety of ethnic cuisines now- a solid 4 stars. I will be back!

Yelp
Found this restaurant through Tik Tok and decided to give it a try. The cheeseboat was the best thing out of what we ordered, it was like stringy cheese and you use the sides of the bread boat to dip. It wasn't anything extraordinary though. The khinkali was basically a dumping, the outside of it has a pasta-like texture and the inside had beef, but also nothing too extraordinary. The third thing we ordered was the minced kebab, I love kebabs but it was pretty disappointing. It was super dry and it came on a piece of stale lavash. The restaurant itself is very cute inside with nice decor and vibrant colors but the food itself wasn't enough for me to want to come back again.

Yelp
Absolutely lives up to the hype. Georgian Cheese Boat is a place you go to forget about your sorrows, calorie counting, and this plane of existence. If I had room in my stomach, I would've absolutely ordered every cheese boat. It was so good that I forgot to even take a picture, the second I saw it my ravenous instincts took over. The rest of the food was just as good, but for different reasons. The minced kebab was the perfect texture, although I wish we got the fries with it instead of the salad. The sauce that the Chakhokhbili Meat Balls were in was absolutely top tier. The pomegranate seeds were a delightful touch. The Lamb Khinkali (dumplings) also hit the spot! For dessert, I definitely preferred the softer honey cake over the Napoleon. In terms of ambiance, there is some room for improvement for sure. It didn't significantly detract from my experience, but it didn't help either. I'd say get rid of the massive black and white stripes on the back walls, replace the bulbs in the main chandelier over the bar with warmer ones so the lighting is the same throughout the room, and maybe get art with a more consistent vibe and hang it up in chunks instead of sparsely dispersed across all the walls. The bathroom was lovely though, the door had a cover at the bottom that prevented sounds and smells from escaping the room. The service was solid, the server who was running the whole place was patient with me when asking about my food allergies. Additionally, he was able to make some small talk with us despite being pretty busy. I thought it was interesting that we ordered at a screen at the bar, but I can see how that makes things easier if you're working front of house by yourself. Overall, I would recommend Georgian Cheese Boat for a cozy filling dinner with friends!

Yelp
I had been wondering about the "Georgian Cheese Boat" (as a foodstuff AND as a restaurant) since first reading a rave review in the SF Chron. Today the timing finally worked and I walked in for a mid-afternoon feast. I was NOT disappointed. My wife and I were greeted warmly by the owner, Shalva and we took a bright seat near the picture window overlooking the action/foot traffic on the busy North Beach streets. I ordered an "amber" mid-priced Georgian wine while our food was being prepared. It was fine but lacked a lot of complexity. I thought that it might be a great accompaniment to the particular Georgian spices in the food and I gotta say; I was exactly correct. A great "eating wine"! We were feeling mostly vegetarian today so we ordered the eggplant stew, a spinach "cheese boat" and mushroom dumplings. The restaurant was ON POINT for all the dishes. The stew in particular was a wonderful melange of distinctly Georgian spices that I wouldn't be able to name individually, but in concert they allowed the humble stew to sing. The spinach main dish was the most wonderful "spinach pizza" I've never had. Shout out to the exceptional salty cheese and the masterful bread boat with its rolled sides that referenced pizza crust but brought so much more interest (and no tomatoes). Finally Shalva presented the mushroom dumplings with "locals only" instruction about how to hold & eat them for maximum enjoyment (Pro tip: Hold the doughy stem as a perch and eat around it but don't necessarily eat all of that "stem" dough. It's hard on the stomach and there's no filling to play off). As a certified mushroom FREAK I can say without hesitation that I have never had such an umami bomb as biting into the center of these dumplings. It's mushroom love for days! I *will* say, however, that they tasted even *better* when I went rogue and stuffed a bit of the spinach-cheese filling into the dumpling and free formed my own variant. The mushroom played SO NICELY against all of that salty cheese! Hear, HEAR! Thank you, Shalva! I will be back to taste through every offering in the restaurant. I trust you with my belly and my dancing shoes! _Lippy

Yelp
Amazing restaurant! The khinkali was juicy and the chicken kebab was my favorite - tender and flavorful. Service was attentive and friendly, and atmosphere is cute as well. Will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family!

Yelp
This restaurant is located in the heart of north beach. Georgia is a small country near the Russia. I have never been there before. It has so unique food. And service is nice. I tried cheese khinkali definitely recommended. Ambiance is nice as well. It is nice to see different cuisines all around the world in my city.

Yelp
Hidden Gem in North Beach. A hole in the wall restaurant offering traditional Georgian (country) dishes and wine. Went with family, and got spinach boat, chicken kabob, potato dumplings, vegetable stew, plus the honey cake. All excellent. Would recommend to food adventurers and people who like comfort food.

Yelp
Pretty tasty food from Georgia that you'll struggle to find in Atlanta! Glad that North Beach now has a Georgian restaurant. The ordering format is a little weird since there was a waiter but he tells you to use a digital kiosk. I feel like they should just pick one, either full table service or full counter service. I do like fast-casual counter-service, like Souvla, so that would be fine. Lamb Khinkali: They say this is a like a soup dumpling (xiao long bao), but it's really not. While there are some juices inside, it's a bit large and unwieldly to try to suck those juices out. However, as a regular dumpling it's pretty delicious with the thick dough and big lamb meatball inside. Lots of nice spices, different from Chinese dumplings, like maybe caraway seeds? Definitely worth a try. Classic Khachapuri: It's always worth trying the eponymous dish. Bread baked fresh to order with a ton of cheese in the center. The cheese had a texture somewhere between gooey mozzarella and squishy queso fresco, but with a tanginess reminiscent of feta. Very unique and very intense. Not quite smooth enough to dip like fondue, but you can fork some cheese on bread you break off for a nice pairing. Only criticism would be the lack of pickles. I know you can order a big tray, but it would have been nice if a little container of pickles came with this by default. The intensity of the cheese could use it as a contrast.

Yelp
One of a kind tastes (Chakapuli tarragon stew) and unique takes on familiar presentations (Lobiani bean stuffed bread, and Khinkali lamb soup in scrotum shaped dumplings that need to wait to cool off enough to safely hold the whole thing in your mouth) at a joint I'd pass by because of the name cheese boat. Please do away with the kludgy ordering system on the tablet as it ends up needing more handholding interaction than someone explaining menu items and taking orders.

Yelp
The most stunning cuisine ever! The food was so incredibly our jaws were on the floor. This is the cutest little pink restaurant in north beach, and the owner was so nice and helpful with the ordering. The honey cake is a MUST!! We also loved that we were able to hang out at the restaurant for a few hours without being pushed out. Highly recommend, I will definitely be back.

Yelp
The veggie combo is phenomenal. The three different phkalis are wonderful in different ways (beet, carrot, spinach) and wholly unique from anything else I've eaten. The only weak link was the dolmas which were overly vinegary but that was an outlier in otherwise terrific meal. Also it's worth noting the eggplant was perfectly cooked. That can be difficult to find. The host was fairly surly and we needed to ask separately for menus, water, napkins, silverware and hot sauce (which we had to pay extra for), but in hindsight the quality meal feels much more important.

Yelp
We swung by this place in hopes of a wide selection of Georgian orange wines - we were disappointed in that they only had one available that day, but we discovered the cheese boats which more than made up for it! My favorite food groups are cheese + carbs, and the acharuli classic nails both of them, plus add an extra eggy deliciousness. We also sampled all of the khinkali (Georgian dumplings), which were massive and delicious! Restaurant is very cozy and service is friendly! I have no experience with Georgian food or cuisine, so can't speak to authenticity, but I did very much enjoy my experience!
