Yelp
As as new Toledo resident and after Pandemic shutdown, I had been dining out with my supper club looking for Fine Dining in Toledo since restaurants opened back up mid last year. We dine twice a week at $25 -35 dinner restaurants. We had been talking about this place, but hesitant due to cost per plate were $40+. But I had a chance to have lunch yesterday. And though I hardly ever get on line with all this reviews/opinions on line about what people do, I was compelled to spend couple minutes to share to let the readers know who may consider going to this place. Especially based on the online reviews....
I was expecting GRAND dining experience based on WEB reviews and pictures, menu and pictures I had seen. I was thoroughly surprised when I stepped in.
The greeting was weird, first question was if I had reservation, I said no. After the greeter said OK, walking me thru the restaurant, the place was empty. Two of us were in a shock after we sat down.... both of us were looking forward to this "FANCY" restaurant experience based on their advertising and the online menu... looking around, I felt out of place, the atmosphere was by far less than elegant, less than Applebees...place was very small, and was greeted by two people talking very loudly few feet away, only to find out it was the employees working on orders/specials.
She ordered Greek Salad with Chicken, I ordered Lamb Shank. After long, terrible conversations about when it was cooked, what the price was for the specials.... had to hear her yelling across the restaurant to find out what the prices of the specials were..... it was quite unexpected from one of the highest priced restaurants in Toledo... with multiple "good" reviews...
While waiting for food, I as busy wiping the water spots off the silverware, being very uncomfortable with next table when they were only 2 feet from me. I did't think the 6 feet rule was lifted yet. The Gumbo soup was seasoned mildly, as the waitress kept saying it was too hot too eat??!! The Lobster Bisque was rather bland and chunky, there was no taste of Lobster base. It would get less rating than a can of Campbells tomato soup on a nice day.
I went to restroom to wash my hand before food, found the place was very dirty. The bathroom looked so dirty and yellow/dingy, appeared it had not been cleaned in a very long time. The whites in porcelain, well, they were not white. Looking at their bathroom, I can only image their standard is for kitchen cleaning...
When the food finally showed up, it looked great! The great salad look great, as the lamb shank. When tasted, the salad was very bland, dressing tasted like oil, nothing else.... the lamb shank was cook nice and tender, seasoning was tasty, Green beans were cold, rice was bland.
Thru this whole experience was topped by the truck stop quality staff, I'd be discouraged just to look or walk into a place with the choice of staff working there.
Since I am new to the place, I had been keeping open mind to try new and difference places. I was thoroughly disappointed with this restaurant, and was very mis-informed, lied by the online reviews. Though they are merely opinions of few decided to write a line or two, clearly did not represent the facts of the establishment.
Most of all, I am glad I went there for lunch, I will definitely not be joining there with my Dinner Club. It was good to walk out of there disappointed with $50 lunch tab than $500 dinner tab we have weekly.
For what it's worth....the reviews online is not what you will experience. Those are left to your own. This was mine.
Ordered Greek Salad and the Lamb Shank, came with soup and bread.
