The 34 Best Athens Restaurants | Eater

"For over 90 years, this traditional tavern has sat in the same spot beneath the Acropolis, among the colorful little alleys of the historic Plaka district. Named for Theodoros Kolokotronis, one of the greatest heroes of Greek independence, the restaurant serves classics like moussaka, meatballs, tzatziki, and all kinds of roasted and grilled meats. While the food is good, the ambiance is even better. A couple of hours spent among the locals, singing and dancing to live Greek folk music, could make any outsider forget they’re just in Athens for a visit. [$$]" - Demetrios Ioannou

Spontaneously ended up at this mini rooftop. If you’re looking for a place to sip on a cocktail after you tour the acropolis this is the place. I had the Paloma which was very refreshing after trekking up the hill to the pantheon! I really enjoyed the beautiful colors and scenery of all the little cafes. It’s one of the most picturesque areas of Athens!

GREAT MEAL! We were the only foreigners during our visit in March; everyone else was speaking Greek. We were a bit concerned because they gave us menu entirely in English, but no need to worry. Fills up around 8pm. We went early and it was quiet, but then filled up. The food was outstanding and the hospitality was top notch. Musicians played wonderful music, some people danced. One of the resident cats, Constantino the Great, was super friendly.

A true local gem in the heart of Plaka! Tucked away on the cozy Plaka stairs, this spot has a relaxed, welcoming vibe that’s far from fancy, but full of character. The food is absolutely delicious authentic Greek flavors that really hit the spot. The waiter is friendly and makes you feel like part of the family. It’s not just a meal; it’s an experience. If you’re looking for a laid back, local feel with great food, this is the place to be!

Cozy rooftop with gorgeous view. Sit on the rail by the inside restaurant to hear the live Greek music and see the traditional dancing. The grilled octopus was perfect, and local wine was a great recommendation. They have many tables linking the steps up the hill which is a fun experience to try on our next visit. The tzatziki was excellent and we put it on everything. Great date night spot and worth the drive from Athens to Plaka. Reservations recommended!

We are visiting from Miami and found this fantastic spot for authentic Greek dining! The lamb was juicy and perfectly cooked, the fries were crispy, and the pasta carbonara was rich and delicious. The live music created an amazing atmosphere, and the service was warm and welcoming. Located in a charming, cozy street, this place is a must-visit for a true Greek experience!

An unforgettable experience at the oldest tavern in Athens! The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was magical — live music, dancers, people singing along, and a charming, authentic street that just radiates old Athens vibes. Such a fun and unique night — highly recommended!

I had Chicken Gyros & Red Wine. Overall, it was good. I haven't had any Greek food lately to compare against other Restaurants, so this was good for my taste buds. But what I loved the most was the atmosphere, it was great place to dine-in to have early dinner at the outdoor patio / terrace, while the sun was setting. Good experience.
