San Francisco’s New Restaurant Openings

"Open for breakfast and lunch, Gery’s Deli Cafe is a Peruvian cafe in the Richmond serving beef empanadas, chicken tamales, lomo sandwiches, alfajores, and chicha morada, a purple corn drink. The interior is tiny and also functions as a micro-mart with items like Peruvian coffee bags and imported Peruvian candy for sale." - ricky rodriguez

Google
My first experience eating Peruvian food sooooo good. Ate Tamale. Service, friendly and customer service top notch. So funny I kept passing by and always missed opening/closing hrs. Thankful will be back...

Google
Great little shop with some killer pan con lomo! Sandwiches were awesome, and the baked goods (alfajores and anise bun) were great as well. Love that Inka Kola was available, too. If you’re craving a quick portable Peruvian bite, this is the spot.

Google
Such a great place to enjoy some quick Peruvian sandwiches and snacks! As a Peruvian, I can say the pan con chicharrón (braised pork sandwich) is authentic and probably the best I've had in the Bay Area so far. The empanadas are also fantastic! They offer service in both English and Spanish. I will definitely come back!

Google
We were so excited to come across this place. They have Peruvian Chicha which is very difficult to find in the bay, in addition to a variety of other delightful things that we have not yet had the chance to try. Staff is so friendly. This place is excellent.

Google
I spent a month in Peru eating every sanguche I could find. Of all the ones I've had outside of Peru, this is by far my favorite. Absolutely worth going here.

Google
Delicious chicken salad sandwich with crunchy peruvian bread and crispy potato slivers. The chicken salad was well seasoned and the lettuce and tomato helped balance out the creaminess. Small size but quite filling, perfect for breakfast or a quick lunch. The chicha morada was very yummy too and balanced in flavor. Pan con chicharron is a standout. All the best flavors. Salty, fatty pork, pickled red onions, soft sweet yams, and their delicately spiced anise bread. paired with a killer sauce. addictive!

Google
Delicious sandwich, empanadas, and the nicest people working there! An awesome place in the neighborhood to stop by for coffee or lunch. The pork sandwich is a winner - will be coming back soon to try the other sandwiches too!

Yelp
Braised pork sandwich is SO GOOD & exactly what I've been chasing after -- we were delighted with the sweet potato included. It looks small, but is a hefty portion. That spicy sauce is no joke either, for those of you chasing the spiciest hot sauces! Chorizo sandwich was kind of a letdown though -- just sausage on bread with mayo and mustard. It would have been nice to have some sauce like a chimichurri or such, otherwise it's a bit plain. Gery was out of a couple items & even closed on a day (Tuesday) they were supposed to be open, so it's best to call first.

Yelp
Delicious! I stopped by Gery's this afternoon while driving through the neighborhood. I was craving a sandwich, saw that these were Peruvian sandwiches and had to stop. I unfortunately stopped by right before they closed and they were pretty much sold out of everything. BUT The owner super sweet, offered me the chicken sandwich and the last veggie empanada. I was going to come back another time but I decided to take her up on it. It did not disappoint. The veggie empanada, so good! Very flavorful and probably the BEST puff pastry I've had in SF. The pastry is sweet, soft, and dense and just the right amount to balance the grilled veggies inside. I usually don't get veggie empanadas I go for chicken or beef but I loved these. I'll be back to try all of them. The chicken sandwich is the perfect size, tasty and on a freshly baked roll, it also has these little string crispy potato like things (?) that added crunch to the sandwich which I loved. It's a cold sandwich and great for a warm day. I also tried the chicha morada and loved it! Sweet but not too sweet and not over powering with the cinnamon. It's one of my all time favorite drinks. I will definitely be back try more. I should have come earlier in the day, however I'm glad I didn't leave and tried some of the items on the menu. It's a cute, quant, deli that fits just a few. But loved the vibe, owner and the staff, so kind and friendly. It's only been open for 6 weeks, you have to try this place out! Also did I mention great prices?! :)

Yelp
A delicious bakery/Peruvian food cafe just opened in the Inner Richmond. It's on a not very high traffic 6th Ave between California and Clement. If you are like me and need to visualize by other restaurants or landmarks, it's located across the street from Mandalay and where Not Latte /Ha Tea used to be. It's more of a store front with maybe a small table with 2 chairs outside. The baker/owner is a very lovely and gracious woman. We visited for the first time yesterday and enjoyed some delicious anise bread. We also enjoyed the braised pork sandwich. Slightly dry pork but with the accompanying hot sauce, it was delicious! Also the decaf latte was yummy. She mentioned that on weekends, she will start offering Peruvian food, not just Sandos, so we can't wait to come back to try some new things.

Yelp
I had just missed my bus and so I had 15 minutes to wait until the next bus and I was super hungry. I just looked up spots that were super close to me and found this café. I walked over and the closed sign was on the front door, even though I still had about six minutes until they officially closed. The woman inside, came out and opened the door for me and allowed me to come in to make a quick purchase, that was really nice of her. They only had chicken empanadas left so I bought one. The empanada was one of the best I've tried in the city. Thought it was better than all the popular ones in the ferry building. It was so flaky and the filling inside was so flavorful. It was like a salsa picante chicken that was inside and it was just really good. It also tasted pretty authentic. I would definitely go back here. I'm so glad I randomly came across this place and also it just opened like four months ago so it's super new. I don't think a lot of people know about it, it's a very tiny shop. You can't really sit inside. You kind of just go inside to get something and leave. Will definitely be coming back here. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Yelp
We had the Lomo sandwiches, which were very small, especially for $12. Flavor was okay, but cannot match the Lomo sandwiches from Fresca, which cost only a few dollars more. There wasn't much meat in the sandwiches, but there were lots of cooked onions. Sandwiches this small should only cost $7-8. They keep raising their prices in the last few weeks. They need to lower their prices or make the sandwiches larger. The Alfajores cookies were very good, with the buttery cookies and thick dulce de leche filling. I would come back for the cookies, but skip the sandwiches. We were very excited to try a new Peruvian cafe/bakery, but were very disappointed with the pricing and the size/taste of the sandwiches. We wish them good luck for their future and hope they listen to their customers.

Yelp
Had a lovely experience here at this tiny Peruvian sandwich shop. There's very very little seating, just FYI! Pan con chicharron was delicious, not too heavy and the pork was perfectly cooked, not oily. The bread on the sandwich really stood out to me...incredibly fresh, light, and crispy. The house made hot sauce was very spicy and delicious as well. Service was lovely!! Quick, friendly, thoughtful (Gery asked if I wanted onions on my sandwich since I hadn't clarified when ordering). Definitely plan to come back and try other sandwiches, tamales, and the desserts including the alfajores and passion fruit cheesecake. Wishing Gery's much success here for many, many years to come!

Yelp
Very delicious Red Velvet Cake. Definitely recommend coming but there are limited seating.

Yelp
Best tamales I've had in a long time! A very cute and tiny neighborhood gem with delicious options and friendly service. Geraldine was so kind and personable and offered to warm up my tamale. I just wolfed down that tamale now--it was packed with flavor and blew me away! Can't wait to eat the chicken one too...I'm so lucky to live nearby this place and I will definitely be back!

Yelp
I went in for the lomo but was told they were out of chicken and beef. I was offered the veggie empanada. I've had their veggie empanadas before and they are not usually pre bagged. So, in the past, I could tell that they were flaky and crispy. This visit, the veggie empanadas seemed under baked. I bought two at more than $7 a piece but couldn't finish the two of them because the dough was too soft and unpleasant. The price has been a little inflated but I didn't mind because of the hand-made Peruvian delights from this cozy little shop. This time, the quality for the price was truly disappointing. And that makes me sad!

Yelp
Gery's Deli Cafe is a small friendly Peruvian cafe that serves some tasty empanadas (Chicken, beef) and drinks. We tried the beef empanadas, caramel latte, and cortado. The ambience was great

Yelp
Delicious empanadas and Peruvian sandwiches with unique, filling and flavorful meats. A great addition to the neighborhood - will be returning soon. Highly recommend a visit!

Yelp
2nd time eating at Gery's and I have to say it currently stands as my favorite Deli in the city. Everything tastes so fresh, from the bread to the meats and the flavors are unlike anything I have tried at other Delis. Service is always fantastic, the ladies are so kind and helpful. You can tell they really love what they do. I will be coming in regularly to try everything on the menu. So far I've tried the pork and the sausage sandwiches and I can highly recommend both.

Yelp
Amazing Peruvian find, classic Peruvian sandwiches and pastries! Just like home! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
My summer camp went here to try some real authentic peruvian food, ans we were not disappointed. The service was quick even though we ordered a lot of food and the owner was very kind and patient with our kids. The actual food was definitely the best part. We got empanadas, tamales, chicken sandwiches, cupcakes, and drinks. They were all delicious. My only complaint is that the space was small, but the owner said more outdoor tables would be installed. I would definitely eat here again.

Yelp
Had a great pan con chicharrón!! My husband and I loved it and we are still full hours later! The people working there are so nice. Can't wait to come back!

Pilar P.

Yelp
I went to this new location on 6th ave because when I tried the sandwiches on the prior location were so good. This time was a total disappointment. Chicharrón was very hard almost to the point of burn , just a little meat and mostly fat. Quality is not the same as before, very poor quality I'll say.

Rosa G.

Yelp
The pork sandwich and meat empanada were delicious. Also the purple corn juice. Thanks Geraldine!

Megan D.

Yelp
Just came here for the first time and it was sooooo good!! The pan con pollo was amazing, as were the empanadas & all of the yummy deserts. So great to have authentic delicious Peruvian food in our neighborhood!! The owners are so sweet too. Can't wait to go back!

Christopher S.

Yelp
Very good pork sandwich. It's served on a bun that's a little small but it had a heaping portion of meat that was super delicious.

L A.

Yelp
I usually get empanadas at the place in the Transit Center downtown, which is perfectly fine, but yesterday I was in this neighborhood so I picked some up here instead. And was blown away. These are SO GOOD, and cheap too! The cafe itself is tiny and cute - don't plan to eat inside - and Gery is super nice also!

Mayra Q.

Yelp
So far my favorite place to have a delicious Peruvian breakfast. I have tried the pan con tamal, pan con chicharrón, pan con lomo, rosquitas, chicha morada and my favorite pan de yema and I can say I've been amazed by the good taste of everything, I don't know which one is my favorite now. The service is also great. I always make a call to order ahead and Geraldine is so nice that she brings it to my car with no issue. 100/100
