Geschwister Rauch - Restaurant

"In the quiet village of Trautmannsdorf, overlooking Bad Gleichenberg, Richard Rauch and his sister Sonja have established themselves as pillars of the Austrian gastronomy scene. The chef-patron draws on local and international influences, showcasing his creativity with dishes such as sweet and sour stuffed peppers with octopus, physalis and cucumber, or Hütter free-range chicken (meat and egg) – served in the form of two tasting menus. The ingredients used are second to none, and the restaurant's own pig farm is a key supplier. There is also a shop on site, where you can purchase high-quality food items to take home. The terrace, shaded by grapevines, is a lovely spot in summer. The charming service team is on hand to cater to your every need, including when it comes to choosing the right wine. In addition to the fine dining restaurant, the siblings also open the Wirtshaus at lunchtime. Comfortable accommodation is available at the adjacent Villa Rosa (1913), where they also organise cookery classes." - Michelin Inspector

Geschwister Rauch - Wirtshaus

"Wirtshaus is the second restaurant that siblings Sonja and Richard Rauch run in these premises located next to the church. They cook seasonal dishes, which are served as a set menu or à la carte; they also cover regional classics. The beautiful vine-covered garden offers a pleasantly shady spot in summer. Right opposite, in the pretty Villa Rosa, which dates back to 1913, there are attractive guestrooms and a cookery school. Tip: There is also a small shop selling items from the kitchen and the cellar." - Michelin Inspector

This cozy little countryside restaurant will blow you away with its cozy, beautifully prepared dishes. The goose offal was a true standout, balanced, tasty, heartwarming. Some beautiful local wines and fantastic service.

I got a short term reservation - was really glad and looking forward to this visit. magdalena was very friendly, other staff reserved, professional & welcoming but obviously reserved, not advising and helpful, with significant differences in experience. I ordered a full menu, asked for small and/or menu-portions. but the amount of food was inappropriate for such a long menu - lots of sth is not always good or better. the wine I ordered with my main course was not served (as were other orders on neighbouring tables delayed/forgotten). first course cured fish very mild, followed by a creamy asparagus soup (which was too starchy for me) including dumplings and orange filets - all together not consistent. in-between course lamb-liver and jus plus caramelized apples was excellent, the highlight. but, a full portion on it's own, enough to fill-up by itself. main course was a steak, veggies and green leave salad. meat was very good, veggies grilled (but somewhat fatty), salad not dressed well, top part mild, lower leaves very sour. although full and overeaten (and I had left overs as the menu was going on), I decided to try dessert, light fluffy elderflower and few marinated strawberries - this was very good. my finishing coffee was served without sugar, which was brought to my table after I have finished the espresso. my cold sparkling water was placed in the hot bare sun. depending on my experience in the wirtshaus, I have no strong urge to visit the fine dining restaurant - which I find disturbing, as I was experiencing a lot. I have observed sonja on duty, but I didn't see or hear richard in the kitchen, I probably experienced a demanding day for the whole geschwister rauch team.
