Where To Drink Margs That Give Back in Cincinnati | Eater

"Ghost Baby is perhaps the most unassuming bar in OTR. For starters, it’s located in what was once an underground lagering tunnel from Cincinnati’s oldest beer brewing days. But once you get there, you’re handsomely rewarded for your travels. Boasting a beautiful jewel-box interior, the bar is located in the Rattle Room before opening into the Den, a jazzy, clubby lounge. You’ll need reservations for the Den, and you’ll want them — there’s live music nearly every single night. Ghost Baby might be underground, but sip on an Above the Clouds Astral cocktail and you’ll feel transported to the speakeasies of yesterday." - Alex Frost

This is an amazing experience. Be aware, you may want to make reservations 4-6 weeks ahead of your planned visit. When you have a reservation you have a guaranteed seating in the back. They do have a bar area that is first come first served, however when it's full, they close the doors. They do not serve food here which I believe is a good thing. Everything from the way the servers are dressed, to the lighting, to the live jazz band gives that speakeasy vibe that makes you feel like you've been transported back in time. Love this experience and will definitely come again.

Ghost Baby is a must-visit in Cincinnati! This speakeasy has the perfect moody vibe—dark, intimate, and full of character. My best friend and I stopped in during our girls trip, and it did not disappoint. We had reservations and were seated right away. The staff was incredible—super friendly and knowledgeable. They answered all our questions and gave great drink recommendations. And let me tell you, the cocktails were delicious! If you’re looking for a cool, atmospheric spot with amazing drinks and top-notch service, Ghost Baby is it.

We’ve been meaning to check this place out for a while, and it definitely lived up to the hype! It’s a true speakeasy in every sense - underground(literally), intimate, atmospheric, and centered around a fantastic live music experience. A reservation is a must if you want to be seated in the main room with the performance; otherwise, you’ll only catch the music from across the hall. The cocktail menu is impressive, the staff warm and welcoming, and the vibe was just right. All in all, a memorable night out!

Google
Really incredible experience at Ghost Baby while visiting town this past Saturday. We made a reservation well in advance and timed it with a great performance. The drinks were great, we ordered the same round. We were celebrating an anniversary and they brought us really cute espresso martini shots in edible chocolate shot glasses. Our table was front row and the sound for music paired with the ambiance of the historic tunnel was just overall a great unique experience for us. Will be coming back!

Google
Ghost Baby is completely adorable!!! It’s a speakeasy in Cincinnati that has a long history back to prohibition where alcohol was transported underground. We wanted to check it out but couldn’t get reservations (short notice). We went about 5pm on a Friday. The Rattle Room is where we entered. It was a cute bar with wrap around couches around the whole room. The menu has a variety of fun cocktails and beers. Logan, the bartender was helpful with recommendations and made delicious drinks. We will definitely go back and have drinks in The Den. It’s in the back, just through the curtains, where they have a bar, tables, and live music that starts in the evening (I think about 6pm). It’s a fun date night place or a nice place to take out of town guests.

Google
First of all... love the guy at the door. He brings the positive energy. We didn't have a reservation on a Saturday and walked over a little before 900p. We were told walk-ins were allowed in at 915p. People started lining up along the wall. We gained entry and descended the stairs. The space is unique and embellished well. The bar steals the attention from the room...and rightfully so. Everyone working was friendly. Great cocktails. It's a busy place. If I was in the city longer, I would have preferred to go outside of a peak time. Come as you are... and be respectful. Well worth the visit!

Google
Immaculate vibes. Saw a wonderful burlesque show put on by Queen Bee Cabaret! Drinks were fantastic and the staff were charming and accommodating. Look forward to going back in the future.

Google
This is my second visit. I am from out of state and was in for the weekend. This place has a cool vibe and has very good jazz… I wish they had a vocal or two as that really grabbed the audience’s attention the last visit- as this time was all instrumental… the musical group were very good jazz musicians…. The drinks made at the outer bar are pretty good, but the unique cocktails are quite good and prices here are not unreasonable. Lastly, I love the hole in the wall speak easy feel and that huge guy at door is very personable with all the guests 😊🥃

Yelp
Make the reservation! Live music on a Saturday Night. Grab your girls, your boys, your partner or your people! Interesting cocktails in a unique atmosphere with superb service. You will not be disappointed! The "Samoa" shots should be endorsed by the girl scouts themselves. Liquid cookie delicious gold. Worth the $7.00. #8 "Inspired by the Dessert" is a funky little guy who comes with it's own treat to pair! I've never had a drink taste so much like a pistachio and leave me in so much awe! $16.00

Yelp
Ghost Baby is such a vibe. Tucked away underground in OTR, you walk down what feels like 100 stairs and suddenly you're in this moody, red-brick bunker that looks like a speakeasy met a jazz cave--in the best way possible. Make a reservation early because this place is tiny and fills up fast. We had a 7:30 spot and it was already packed. The space is split into two rooms: an open bar area and a reserved room with live jazz--and trust me, you want the jazz room. The music was phenomenal and the whole place had such a happy, buzzing energy. We tried the chocolate espresso martini shot--super tasty, but not really a "shot." More like dessert in a tiny chocolate bowl. Cute, but skip it next time. Cocktail highlights: * #7: Mango, mint, lime, orange, and cream--a tropical margarita dream. 10/10, ordering again. * #4: Gin, cherry, lemon, and a buzz button--fun and flavorful. Only downside was the service (it was a busy Saturday) --we waited about 15 minutes before being helped. But honestly, the live jazz made it hard to care. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Always love taking visitors to ghost baby! I recommend making a reservation in advance to secure your spot since it's typically pretty booked in the music area. We were able to walk in for the bar and got lucky with a table. The drinks are a little pricy but the experience is worth it

Yelp
Ghost Baby in Cincinnati is an incredibly cool bar, located four stories underground. Ghost Baby is situated in the underground lagering tunnels of a Cincinnati brewing company that ceased production in the 1850s. These tunnels, located four stories under Vine Street, remained vacant for over 150 years. As you walk in, you're standing in the Rattle Room, with an ornate bar styled after a baby's rattle. Here, you can grab a drink. It's a little less noisy than the Den. As you enter the Ghost Baby Den, you are greeted with live music and another bar in an acoustically brilliant, half-domed clubroom. Grab a seat on the plush couches and enjoy. No videos allowed so you only get pictures.

Yelp
Incredible ambiance, friendliest servers who know cocktails in and out and the yummiest tasting cocktails!

Yelp
The entertainment was superb! It was a nice crowd and very sexy. They don't serve any small bites or entrees. It's a very sexy speakeasy. You can dress casual, business, or sexy. Ladies, you might find him here.

Yelp
Ghost Baby is a staple to OTR with its unique underground experience. Drinks are so tasty- espresso martinis are some of the best in the city! If you can't make it to sit for the band, the entry area is perfect for a quick drink too.

Yelp
Amazing music club! Highly recommend making reservations, even on a week night. Music sets are amazing - sometimes jazz, sometimes local bands, and always great. Drinks are delicious and priced on par with the experience you get. Cincinnati gets cooler everyday - this is a must visit!
google avatar

Yelp
long story short: a very cool spot for drinks & music Ghost Baby is so cool! It is difficult to find as there is absolutely no signage outside, but this adds to the speakeasy feel of the place. It was packed when we went, but that just added to the atmosphere. The bartenders were busy but very attentive, & the drinks were delicious. Ghost Baby is expensive, but the experience is unbeatable & worth the price in my opinion . I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a unique experience & good live music.

Yelp
Talk about a VIBE! Book a reservation now to visit this one of a kind speakeasy in the OTR neighborhood of Cincinnati. Our group of six made a reservation for Friday night around 7:45pm. The entrance is very unassuming with a simple purple street light marking the door. The bouncer/door attendant was dressed to the nines wearing a full suit which immediately matched the setting we were about enter. Following a trip down four flights of stairs, you'll arrive at the front bar area. Near the back of the bar is the entrance to the "speakeasy" area. We were sat right away and quickly greeted by our server. We ordered a round of cocktails which also tasted great. The band on stage that evening was "All The Things" which were a weird, quirky, jazzy band which we enjoyed. This is a great option for a elevated date night or evening out of the town with friends. I plan to bring friends from out of town here when they visit!

Yelp
Ghost Baby is more than just a speakeasy with live music and jazzy drinks; it's a historical experience. More than 150 years ago, before refrigeration, brewing companies used underground lagering tunnels for cooling and aging the beer they produced. Ghost Baby is located in the tunnels formerly used by a Cincinnati brewing company; four stories under Vine street. The company discontinued beer production in the 1850's and these tunnels have remained vacant since. In the last few years, Union Hall has occupied the ground level spaces in the building, which spans the block between Vine and Republic streets. In an effort to revitalize the underground area, workmen were sent in to set-up lighting fixtures. The only way to enter into the tunnels was to descend via a long ladder. After installation of the first bare bulb, the contractor made his way back up the ladder to retrieve a second bulb. When he returned, he found the first bulb shattered. The attached wire was swinging, as if it had been hit by someone or something. It's said he shone his flashlight into the dark tunnel, but saw nothing. Since that day, other people in the space have reported hearing strange noises from time to time. Some have even said you can hear a baby crying ... hints the establishment name Ghost Baby. The half-domed clubroom adorned with a velvet-curtained stage is the perfect ambiance for a date night. Reservations are highly recommended.

Yelp
Great ambiance!! This bar is 4 stories underground and has such a cool vibe. The bartenders were great, fast service and tasty drinks. We just had drinks in the front, but definitely want to check out the jazz area next time!

Yelp
This speak easy is so fantastic! My family and I went for drinks only and watched some music Mother's Day weekend. We made a reservation ahead of time and our seats were great and the music was awesome! Service was fast and did a good job of being attentive without being overbearing or blocking the music. We had wine and a few cocktails and all were amazing. We are certainly looking forward to returning!

Yelp
We made last minute plans for a night away to Cincinnati. Someone posted this place and I looked it up and made the decision immediately this was somewhere I needed to go! What a FABULOUS TIME!!!!! Everything was exactly what we needed for a night out. There was amazing live music, the décor and lighting was dim and beautiful. The cocktails were made to perfection. I could have drank many more if we had more time. We had an early seating around 6:30pm because we had plans to get dinner afterwards. At the end of the night the server brought over the expresso Martini in a little chocolate cup. I am sooooo Beyond grateful that we accidently stumbled across this little historic place.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Great experience and ambiance. An eclectic underground entertainment venue with a ghost story. There were a lot of Bachelorette parties or girls night out groups the night we were there. Drinks and music were fantastic!!

Genna T.

Yelp
The bouncer was weird. We're not In San Francisco or anywhere important, why the hell do you guys have an attire requirement? Know your area. It's Cincinnati. We just came from Pride so obviously we weren't wearing prom dresses. I make six figures a year...do you think I need to be judged by your durag wearing doorman for wearing sandals ? Fuck off.

Yelp
Our first time sitting at the small 2 person center tables was a bust. I definitely recommend going in a larger group, so that you get a booth. Our seats sat so far into the aisle, I kept getting bumped the entire time. A guy seated at a booth behind us kept putting his chair in the aisle and ended up backing right into a server who dropped a tray of dirty glasses down my back and in front of the table behind us. Love Ghost Baby but will only go back with 3 + people to avoid the cramped center seating.

Yelp
Big fan of this place! It's perfect for celebrations, special date nights, or a girls night out. The exclusive, speakeasy vibes are fun and unique and pair well with their live music. Make sure to book a reservation so you can sit in the main room where the music is! Their cocktails are all twists on classics and so delicious. You can't go wrong! The servers are great with their personal recommendations if you have trouble deciding sometimes like me. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I had been wanting to try Ghost Baby for awhile. It is a speakeasy waaay underground in an old tunnel. My friend and I went for a couple cocktails and live music. I was under the impression that most of the music was jazz- imagine my delight when there were some artist who were folky. I somehow stumbled upon a secret cocktail on the menu- I love a secret within a secret! Also, the staff was so friendly and awesome- sometimes I go to cocktail bars and the staff feels uppity, this staff was classy and personable.
google avatar

Kudakwashe T.

Yelp
The energy and vibes are smooth, chill, and refined. Also, very suave service and good food/drinks. The live music is also amazing. There was one drink that came in a chocolate cup that was delicious. Drinks are made with love and care and you can tell when you take a sip. You gotta go to get the full experience it's hard to put into words how awesome the vibes are.
google avatar

Yelp
We were visiting for a sister birthday weekend and one of our friends recommended Ghost Baby. We almost missed the place walking by til a suave gentleman guided us to the correct spot ! We knew we were in for an exciting night the moment we kept walking downstairs farther and farther into a cool vibe place. Even if you don't have reservations for the jazz club, you can grab a drink in the bar. We were lucky enough to get to the club but I could've just hung out in the bar! Amazing bartenders, so friendly and welcoming. Who knew these were canals built back in the day and now a swank underground club. I want the velvet couches and the funky lamps!
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
Atmosphere was great! Food was great! Drinks were great! Just don't like how there's a time limit for each table.

Yelp
A speakeasy hidden in a cavern is such a cool idea! You have to go down a couple flights of stairs (or there is an elevator) and you emerge into a dimly light cavern with a lit-up bar in the center. Further behind the bar, into a different portion of the cavern is a back room for live music. You can only get back there with tickets, so we enjoyed the bar up front. There is also comfy seating along the walls so if there's no room at the bar you can still enjoy - and even better they have things similar to tv dinner trays to set drinks on. Really appreciate that! They do ask for no flash photography or videos, which is understandable and why my pictures didn't come out great lol. We all ordered the Old Fashioned which was fantastic. The ice was also neat - so clear and with a 'g' stamped on it. Really makes the drink feel fancier. Even better was the price - for something hidden and fancy, it was only $14. A cool spot to find!

Yelp
LOVE Ghost Baby! I have visited numerous times myself, as well as brought many visiting guests here. The atmosphere cannot be beat - the dark and moody lighting, the live music, the great cocktails, and the unique built-in dome shape from the beer tunnels. This place is always a great conversation starter with guests! I have tried many cocktails off the menu and have not been disappointed - there are often cocktails with fun garnishes like edible flowers or last time I visited there was a 3D printed Ghost Baby Ghost in our ice cube! The staff has always been very nice and attentive, when you are sitting in the back room listening to live music they often come to fill your water and take additional drink orders. I definitely recommend making a reservation for a table in the back room if you can! This is where the live music and table service is. If you cannot get a reservation the other bar is still very nice and gives cool flapper-era vibes, but you will not be able to see the live music from here. We love this spot and will continue to patron as long as they are open!

Yelp
Get your reservations in for this place as soon as you know you're traveling to the area! This is an underground, catacomb style BEAUTIFUL bar with speak easy vibes. No food is served here but the drinks are amazing. Service is top notch with two hour reservations after 6:30pm. Dress for "date night" per their dress code. If you can manage to get a reservation during an entertainment hour, I'd highly recommend it. I cannot wait to be back!
google avatar

Kellie O.

Yelp
I'm only giving 4 stars since I've never been in the main area for food etc. but I've been to the front bar here with my fiancé and brother last summer and was in awe with its location and ambiance! Have fun finding it! :)
google avatar

Danielle J.

Yelp
I love ghost baby and have been here multiple times! I highly recommend it and I always try something new. They have their house cocktail menu as well as a full service bar. I have never been disappointed in the music, service and drinks here. I tried a whisky sour and also enjoyed a French 75 tonight (had it before and loved it so had to get again).
google avatar

Ailin J.

Yelp
VIBES ON POINT! So glad I made it to this reservation only speakeasy. There is a bar that doesn't require reservations but if you want the live music, reservation is a must. We came for a 445pm drink and it was already quite busy here. I'm glad we came earlier in the night because the music was soft jazz. As the night goes on, the music gets more lively and upbeat to match the evening so come for whatever music you're in the mood for...earlier for something more chill. I do wish they had some more cocktails with gin and vodka for variety. The espresso martini is one of the best I've had tho with cinnamon which was a game changer. They are very strict with their reservation times so you will be asked for you table once your time is up.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
I love coming to Ghost Baby! I highly recommend making a reservation, as that is the only way that you will be in the main room where they have the band. Most nights they have live music, and if you're lucky, you can go on the Burlesque night (make sure you bring ones). The vibe is so fun! The drinks are pretty good as well. My favorite is their take on the espresso martini, which has hints of cinnamon, just delicious. I got another cocktail with buzz button garnish that makes your lips and tongue tingly, an interesting sensation for sure. The staff is very attentive and have great recommendations as well. Highly recommend for a night with your friends or for an intimate date night!

Yelp
Had a fantastic time at ghost baby a few weeks ago, but I haven't had a chance to write a review until now. This bar is completely underground and you can either take the stairs or the elevator, depending on your preference. I have the opportunity to speak to the bartender and she explained to me that this underground bar used to be a way to bring in alcohol during the prohibition. It is so cool it is kind of hard to get a reservation, so make sure that you make one ahead of time unless you don't care sitting at the bar. It sounds to me like you can make a reservation to sit in the area and there is live music. The bar starts to get more packed around 9-10 pm when the bar starts playing the music. McKayla was a fantastic bartender, and had a lot of knowledge about the city and places to go as I do not live in Cincinnati. I wish that the website had the drink menu as the two drinks attached were very good, but I can't remember at all what was in them. I feel like the menu does change so make sure you check it out next time you are in Cincinnati.

Yelp
I have been wanting to go here for a while now. I have always heard great things about Ghost Baby and I was finally able to snag a reservation ahead of time and make it work out. The process of getting in and seated was very smooth. Our waitress was super friendly and informative. We had a booth and had a good view of the stage to hear the music. I love the venue because of the coziness though I do wish the music was just a little softer, so that you could hear the people at your table. I like the dark vibes and mysterious type of entrance. For drinks, I tried two of them. I had the penicillin inspired drink as well as the by the sour drink which had buzz button in it. This is my first time trying buzz button in a drink, and I really liked it. It gives you a tingly sensation on your tongue. Both my drinks were very satisfying. The one thing I wish I knew was that they stop serving light bites. I do hope they consider bringing that back because with the drinks and the music, you need a bit of food to keep on drinking. This is great for a date night or friends night out/girls night. You have two hours when you make a reservation, which is plenty of time to enjoy the music and drinks. It's also a good way for them to be able to get more folks in and out and have the experience so I don't mind that there is a time limit. I will be back to try some of the new drinks that they have since they do have a rotating menu.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Located multiple stories underground, there are stairs and an elevator. The space is absolutely beautiful with a bar in the front and tables with a stage for music in the back. We made a reservation and visited on a Tuesday night. We were seated up front and the music was amazing!!  The drinks are very well made and we loved our time here. Would 100% recommend visiting and hope we can go back in the future.

Yelp
Unbelievable gem hidden deep under the streets of Over the Rhine! The unique ambiance of the old lagering tunnels (used in the 1800's before refrigeration) creates the perfectly relaxed vibe to enjoy some fantastic cocktails and musical grooves. Definitely recommended for a memorable night out.
google avatar

Carren A.

Yelp
Super cool atmosphere and a unique feel to a bar! The cocktail selection is great and they also have good beer. The live music is always great as well.
google avatar

Whitney V.

Yelp
Underground drinks with bars and a concert? Yes I'm in. The night we went, there was an amazing singer so the ambiance was so much fun. The bar is deeply underground but it does not feel stuffy or claustrophobic. One of the bars is decorated to look like a trolley which I appreciate because it was suppose to be the underground train tracks. The drinks are on the more expensive side of bars but the cocktails are very crafted well.

Claire H.

Yelp
Beautiful place to enjoy drinks and live music. The staff is personable and kind! Huge thanks to them for letting us come a little later than expected!!!
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
What a cool place! My son, who lives in Austin, was in for his 30th birthday and we wanted to take him somewhere that could compete with Austin. Ghost Baby was the perfect place to take him! We got our drinks quickly and enjoyed listening to the band. It was very busy for what I would expect for a Tuesday night, so it took quite a while to get our server's attention in order to get our bill. She was working hard serving other tables, so we didn't get upset...perhaps they need to hire more staff? We would absolutely recommend Ghost Baby for a unique, special night out!
google avatar

Al B.

Yelp
This is such a cool spot two to check out! Pricing is a little high but a very cool's unique experience. When the band plays they are very loud so hard to have a conversation but great time! No food, but great place to try a unique cocktail or share some wine with friends. Service was a little slow and you do have a time limit at a table reservation.
google avatar

Notoya S.

Yelp
Very chic. Very cute. Very demure. Very speak easyish vibes. I was told that this place is usually a RSVP only kinda spot so I enjoyed having the opportunity to there. Can't speak for the food or service as I did not eat while attending the event but the drinks looked amazing.
google avatar

Yelp
Vibes are 10/10. Absolutely loved this place. We made a reservation online. You are greeted at the door and sent down several flights of stairs to get to the real entrance (there is an elevator option). There are two areas for seating - the open bar and the seated room. Anyone can go to the bar, but you need a reservation for the seats (highly recommend). The live music was out of this world and was our favorite part of the night. We tried drinks #1, #4, and #6. All were great, but #4 was our favorite (pictured here). We did not have any of the snacks, but they were available. Staff was welcoming and accommodating. Everyone we interacted with was awesome.
google avatar

Luisa S.

Yelp
I had a great time! There was live music playing, and the ambiance here is always fun. Went with some friends and ordered a dirty martini and some baklava. They were out on the charcuterie boards so that was a little sad. Our bartender was very mean which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. She was rude, and seemed like she didn't want to be there or as if we were bothering her by simply asking questions on what were her favorite drinks to recommend us.
google avatar

Jackie S.

Yelp
Malachi's is the best bartender I've encountered in such a long time. He has such a great energy, the music is bomb af, and the drinks were amazing. Honorable mention to the beautiful bartender in the front who made us breakfast shots ! I didn't get her name but she was also great. Would reccomend to anyone in the area or visiting.
google avatar

Abbie S.

Yelp
Ghost baby is a very cool and unique bar and entertainment place. My friend and I only went for a drink at the front bar. You do not have to have a reservation for the front but you do for the back. I love the ice cube I was given in my drinks, super cute touch. I can't wait to go back for a the entertainment & food.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my favorite bar in America. I make it to Cincinnati about twice a year and each time, I come here. Reservations are a must! The inside is an incredible experience. All your senses will be heightened. The drinks are by far the best in the city and the service is outstanding. Everyone is very kind and helpful. The live music is always good and a hit. You will love this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Great Ambiance and Atmosphere!! ... drinks are tasty ... tonight i hot the bugsy ... would like it a bit sweeter .. but added some Luxardo cherries for a quick fix & problem solved ... nice lil speak easy ... will be back again !!

Yelp
Ghost baby is the kind of bar you need to visit at least once, after that it's up to you. The unique location is so cool and the atmosphere is great. Drinks are pretty great, expect to pay $15 or more per drink. Service on a busy night was subpar, we hardly saw our waitress. Also the live music is loud making it nearly impossible to have a conversation. Some constructive criticism would be to keep the live music but cut out the speakers/amplification. The space is small enough for the instruments themselves to get the job done. I can't comment on the food, we didn't have any and I didn't see any on the menu. I would not plan on eating while you are here.
google avatar

Melissa F.

Yelp
Really enjoyed live music and drinks. Favorite was the espresso shot; came in an edible chocolate cup.
google avatar

Tim P.

Yelp
Great bar in the OTR District of Cincinnati. If you want to experience a unique bar that is over 50 feet underground. Then, come visit an amazing speak easy type of club. The music and other entertainment is great, along with an amazement atmosphere. Must go to!

Yelp
I absolutely loved going to Ghost Baby to celebrate Valentine's Day with my partner! When you walk up to the entrance, we were greeted by the bouncer who checked us in, and then you go down three flights of stairs. It looked a little crazy at first, but once you got to the bottom it was really nice! There's two parts to the space - one massive wrap around bar, and one room with lots of tables placed right near each other facing a stage. We were lucky enough to go right when a performance was happening! The drinks were phenomenal! We tried the #2 (inspired by a margarita) and the #4 - both were really delicious. The menu was super small though - I definitely would have liked a little bit more variety. As for the service, that was actually my least favorite part. It took forever for us to get our order taken as we were forgotten by our waitress. After we got someone's attention though, everything was great. For the 20 minutes sitting there without having placed any order though, it definitely wasn't ideal. Overall I would highly recommend this place for anyone interested in a fun and immersive date night experience!
