Austin Brewer Wants to Open Austin’s First Black-Owned Brewery - Eater Austin

"Urban Jungle Brewing, co-owned by Shannon and Tiana Harris, is set to be the first Black-owned brewery in Austin. It will function as a brewery, bakery, farm, and horse rescue. Inspired by the Dripping Springs brewery Jester King, it aims to open in North Austin. The brewery will offer a variety of beers, including pastry stouts, and baked goods. There are also plans for educational programming, focusing on BIPOC and youth. The brewery space will be filled with air plants and exotic flora. The Harrises are also launching a Kickstarter to support the brewery's opening." - Nadia Chaudhury

Ghost Note is a great isolated brewery out in the Driftwood area. The atmosphere is relaxed and gives off the right hill country vibes. Their beers are excellent as well. There's a small playground in the back for the kids and there a food truck that serves tacos and quesadillas namely that is also very good.

If you’re ever in the Dripping Springs area, make sure to add Ghost Note Brewing to your list. I visited for the first time in the summer of 2023, and it was an amazing experience. I had the chance to meet the owners, Kenny and Thelma, who were so welcoming and appreciative of our visit. This past weekend, we were in Wimberley for a wedding and couldn't resist stopping by again. Kenny and Thelma were there, and they took the time to chat with us and thank us for coming back. We brought our dogs, who loved the outdoor seating and got plenty of attention from the owners. I’m all about supporting local breweries, and Ghost Note is one I’ll continue to support. Their beers are fantastic—haven’t been disappointed with any of them! If you’re in the area, don’t miss it!

I've visited here two times in the past. My most recent visit was for the Barks for Beers event. I had the Green Steep Italian Pilsner. 🍺 They are dog friendly and have a nice covered outdoor seating area with huge fans to keep you cool in the Texas heat. Nice place to come, have a beer, and relax. Friendly service and fun atmosphere.

Google
One of the best breweries in Dripping Springs! Peaceful place to relax, comfortable chairs, all outside seating some covered. Unfortunately no place to seek refuge from the heat some mist fans but the grounds are well kept and plenty of space for everyone to hang out. Great beer selection and Mexican food truck on site.

This was a fun and chill place to escape for the day. The brews were delicious and the food truck? Wow. Delightful.

Google
It's easy to relax as soon as you walk up. Plenty of picnic bench seating, intimate stage for live music, quality beer, and friendly staff. It's a destination brewery so luckily the $5 taco truck helps the stay. Lovingly landscaped with plenty of photo op backdrops.

Google
Great Brewery tucked away in the Texas hill country. Don't pass up their Hazy IPA if you're into that, good stuff. Dog & kid friendly atmosphere and a great place to catch some live music over the weekend. They also have a food truck on site offering a number of cajun/seafood/poboy type dishes. This place is worth the stop if you are in the area for sure.

Google
Pretty cool little compound. Stage for live music. I saw a stack of nice firepits, which I imagine are used during cooler weather. Seems to be family and dog friendly. There's not a lot of covered area, so if it's raining, you'll probably get wet.

Yelp
Spontaneous trip out to brewery hop & found this gem! Solid selection of home brews, chill music, & plenty of shaded Adirondack chairs make this an easily lovable place. Bar tender was friendly and knowledgeable about the brews. Food options are ok but not great in terms of options. If you're in the mood for high quality street tacos, the Frida's Cocina food truck on site will scratch that itch but it's pretty much your only option. Will def come back here some evening with my dogs to check out a show.

Yelp
Amazing experience!! The beer was fantastic and the live music was an added bonus. We enjoyed the outdoor seating and it had a great relaxed vibe.

Yelp
This place was so fun! It was super close to our Airbnb and we happened to go when the Beatles tribute band was playing. It was packed! We also ate from the taco food truck - Frida's Cocina. Delicious! The beers were refreshing and we ended up staying longer than we intended to because it was a nice day and we enjoyed the environment.

Yelp
If you are exploring the hill country, definitely stop at GN for a relaxing drink. The outdoor space is very inviting and usually has a good playlist going. There is also live music on the weekends so check out their lineup. It is a perfect spot for a casual date or a fun group outing. And remember it is dog friendly When the crowd thins out it can feel more romantic with the sunsets & string lights. While the bar staff could be more welcoming, the owners are extremely friendly and strive to make your visit enjoyable. The Texas heat is no joke, so we enjoy evening visits but it would be nice if they stayed open a little bit later to take advantage of cooler temps. They make their own hops but they are currently offering Neighborhood Pink Boots (supporting female breweries). It is worth sampling first bc it is different. Tonight we tried the Kashmir Smash IPA and Southern Lite. I enjoyed the POG fruited sour and it was nice to have something different. But overall I prefer the tart sour options at St. Elmo & Vacancy. And the Southern Lite Mexican style lager was the fan favorite. Be sure to check out a little early if ordering crowlers/growlers to go because they need a few minutes to fill. Overall we always enjoy our time at GN. If visiting for the first time or bringing family/friends from out of town, be sure to also check out The Shady Llama just down the road!

Yelp
Nice spot! Great to visit when the weather is good. Bumpy ride going in and parking. Lots of places to sit around. They will have live music sometimes, along with food vendors. The staff are usually pretty friendly and knowledgeable. We'll be out here again!

Yelp
Great beer and friendly atmosphere. Owners on site and super friendly. Staff is also great and people are relaxed in this beautiful location.

Yelp
Nice backyard and grounds. Service was good. The ambiance is good, you have a lot of space to sit anywhere. You can have food from the taco truck, quesadillas were good.

Yelp
Visited a few breweries today and this was the favorite. They brew unique and delicious beer. Helpful and friendly service. There is an all day happy hour Thursday.

Yelp
One of my favorite microbreweries. Service has always been friendly . Knowledgeable staff. Love their selection. Very pleasant hill country setting.

Yelp
What a cool, quaint, laid back ambiance. Even on busy days, you can be sure to feel relaxed and happy here. The music is always fun and the beers are delicious! I love to just take in the surroundings, which are beautifully maintained and remind me a little of a summer campsite. The bartenders are always so friendly and great if you have questions. Definitely a great place to relax and unwind.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful setting. Bartender was extremely courteous and helpful while I considered the beers for my flight. All four selections were delicious. Tomar and the FCs were playing at 4pm which was a delightful surprise! Betty Maes is a terrific food truck on site. Highly recommend

Yelp
Great newer brewery in the area. Plenty of outdoor space. Friendly space, large variety of beers on tap. We went during the day but are looking forward to checking out a nice summer evening concert since they happen every Friday and Saturday. The lighting outside looks like it would be super awesome to see at night all lit up. Can't wait to come back again and experience the night time there.

Yelp
Fantastic spot out in the middle of nowhere.. but not really. Very friendly bartender and delicious beer. I respected the surrounding. It was a country setting with a family friendly appeal. Very spacious outdoor setting. And my favorite part was getting a growler to go and buying a sticker. I'd for sure recommend this brewery. And it seemed you could stay there as well... super cool!

Yelp
Had a great time there!! FREE MUSIC?? Yes, please! The multiple fire pits are so nice and the pop-up Thai food was delicious!!

Anne L.

Yelp
We love this place! Amazing owners, great team, phenomenal music and a website that is always up to date. The food truck 's Mexican food is fantastic and their guacamole the best! ( The guacamole isn't listed on their menu, but it should be!) Also a beautiful setting and family and dog friendly! Five stars all the way!

Yelp
Visiting Family nearby and took a quick trip to Ghost Note. The staff was wonderful. We were able to try multiple flavors before picking our favorite. Kid friendly, nice spread out seating and live entertainment. Very relaxing visit.

Yelp
This brewery is not like any other. It's a beautiful property with an amazing selection of beverages. We had the Texas Sun (saison), the Hilco (California Common), and the Texas Keeper Cider. All were phenomenal and suited to each of our tastes. The folks working here are the best. Thelma is an absolute sweetheart. (She and her husband own it). We are looking forward to attending the grand opening later this month and watching Ghost Note Brewing mature and prosper into the success we know it will be.

Yelp
Great spot along the brewery trail in dripping springs. Lots of outdoor seating, live music and the beer is pretty good as well. They have food trucks so you can pick up a snack if you're hungry. Definitely a stop if you're in the area.

Yelp
Our second visit here and being November we weren't disappointed. The ambiance was perfect. They did have a Food truck this time. Betty Maes with many seafood choices. The band that played ( New Essentials) was really nice and not loud! The beer flight of 4 tastes was also great. Loved the Hilco. Will go back!

Yelp
Great out of the way right off the beaten path. It wasn't on our map to go to but did not disappoint. We revisited and the bartender remembered us from two days prior, even what we drank. This is place is definitely worth the stop. Next trip to town we will be dropping in.

Yelp
My favorite was Texas Sun. My only negative about the place was that they were out of Dark Beers. My favorite. I guess I should've grabbed a can of it to give it taste. The venue looks nice and I love the idea of a music themed brewery in Texas.

Yelp
Great hospitality! It was cold when we visited and we actually came here as a second choice because our orginal place was ridiculously packed. It was the best decision we made. The employees were super helpful and nice, I ended up trying their michelada mixed beer...I can't remember what beer she suggested but it was good, a little tart but good. My husband enjoyed his beer as well, I forgot what he got exactly. Since it wasn't as full, we were able to plot ourselves on some wooden chairs and one of the employees lit our campfire. We ended up staying there longer than expected but only drank one beer. We didn't leave w/o purchasing some goods. Nice designs and cute dogs, will be sure to visit again!

Yelp
We had a short trip to Dripping Springs and came upon Ghost Note Brewing. The food was great. Service was good, and the atmosphere was just what we were looking for relaxing.

Michelle L.

Yelp
Excellent brews, music, food, & wonderful Texas breeze! It's one of the best Hill Country local breweries!
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
Super chill, super laid back brewery. They have a stage for music (starts later on the weekends), a food truck slinging burgers, fries, and shishito peppers! There's also a venue on property to celebrate special occasions. Beer is good. Flights available so you can try a bunch. Only feature their brews; no guest beers. Not a ton of shade, so when it gets hot, not sure it's the best place to be exposed to the unrelenting Texas heat!
google avatar

Diana D.

Yelp
What a fun place! Live band great drinks! And I love the name! Look it up! I'm having such a great time visiting all these back country bars!
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere here. I tried the Pilsner and it was great. Beautiful grounds and tons of seating. I just ordered burgers from the food truck

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Really good beer, super friendly staff. Food truck was tasty. All around great experience. Will be back for sure.
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
Great beer and an even better atmosphere. Live music on the Sunday we came. Beautiful set up.
google avatar

Anna T.

Yelp
Of the local breweries this has the best beer. Recommend the Amber ale and the imperial stout
google avatar

Blade S.

Yelp
First visit to Ghost Note and was very impressed! Tasty beer - nice outdoor layout with plenty of properly spaced tables and friendly staff. Very much appreciated the staff wearing masks while serving customers and sanitizing the tables in between customers. Tried the 4 beer flight and enjoyed them all. Reasonably priced beer choices as well which was nice. Will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
This is the cutest little place ever!! Absolutely gorgeous. There is so much space- so many little cozy seating areas. Outside heaters for when it's cold, giant industrial fans for when it's hot. I'm so glad we stopped in. The owners were fantastic and great to talk to, and the drinks were equally great. Can't wait to go back for another visit.
google avatar

Zay C.

Yelp
Best brewery I've been too hands down! Good customer service and a lot of outdoor activities. Also, very very good beer selection
google avatar

Donna S.

Yelp
I like that they had been and wine! The only drawback is that there are not too many shaded spaces... don't wear sweatpants (I did) maybe even bring sunblock. There was a singer there and he was good and pretty cute! I'd go back. There was also a hill country ranch food truck but with no pizza. We had dry rub wings. They were great
google avatar

Stephen S.

Yelp
Very nice venue, lots of space with shade outside. Service was very friendly and the beer was very good. Had the IPA and the Hazy easy drinking with great flavor. Food truck I would probably skip next time.

Rachael T.

Yelp
Amazing beer and a cool place to hang out. Big tables with QR code's and window service. They have a food truck, family and dog friendly. Fans and heaters depending on the weather, mellow fun music and great service! Go here before it gets crowded

Dana C.

Yelp
Good beer selection, good food truck, nice atmosphere, glad they had space heaters. We will be back!

Murray C.

Yelp
Tried ghost note for the first time today. I shall be back. Beautiful setting in the hill country outside of dripping Springs. Nice, standard selection of 10 brews. Good service and live music. The "hangry" food truck was outstanding! Try their smash burger, parm truffle fries, blistered shishito peppers and especially the hot dog with bacon and sauerkraut. Delicious!
