The 38 Best Restaurants in Montreal, Canada | Eater

"This ode to Italian grilling honors the simplicity and comfort of meals shared in the Tuscan and Abruzzese countryside, but lovingly transplants them into an annex of Saint-Henri’s historic RCA building. Run by the team behind ever-cool Elena and intimate and elegant Nora Gray, Gia’s exceptional Italian menu comes as no surprise — though it leans slightly more rustic and of-the-earth than its siblings. Expect dishes like arrosticini (grilled meat skewers), Florentine steak, rabbit with mushrooms and mustard sauce, and other smoky, charcoal-grilled proteins, alongside fluffy focaccia, rustic pastas (think pici in creamy white Bolognese), and a selection of soulful, mostly Italian wines. Gia is also open for lunch, with antipasti, sandwiches, and a pared-down selection of primi and secondi. Its exterior doesn’t give much away, but inside, wood, terracotta, granite, and olive-green tiles warm the concrete walls. Best for: Getting together in all kinds of ways — for a cozy date night, a catch-up with friends, or, if you book the whole space, a wedding, staff party, or other festive celebration." - Valerie Silva

The Best Bars and Restaurants in Saint-Henri | Eater Montreal

"The latest from the fabulous folks of Nora Gray and Elena draws attention to a different type of Italian cuisine — one highlighting arrosticini, which are small skewers of various meats grilled over charcoal flame. Born out of the owners’ love for time spent in Italy, this eclectic and fun space is located in an industrious part of the neighbourhood, behind the historic RCA building. Natural wines, antipasti, pasta and desserts are aplenty." - Eater Staff

A Hot New Italian Restaurant is Now Grilling in Saint-Henri | Eater Montreal

"Settled in an annex of the old RCA — a 1908 heritage building that once produced records and gramophones — this hot new restaurant and wine bar opened December 8 in Saint-Henri and seats about 55 guests (roughly 35 in a cozy dining room and the rest at a no-reservation “wine island” bar). Two years in the making and run by the Elena team (co-owner Ryan Gray; chef Janice Tiefenbach; Ellen Eamon; Julio Mendy; sommelier Lawrence Fiset; Emma Cardarelli; Marley Sniatowsky), Gia is an homage to Italian grilling centered on an arrosticini grill offering skewers of charcoal-grilled meat typical of Abruzzo — traditional lamb plus beef, pork, and Brussels sprout varieties sold by the unit and served family-style on platters — with a second charcoal grill outside for vegetables, seafood, and larger cuts. Expect some pasta (including pici all’anatra, hand-rolled pasta in duck ragu), seafood and vegetable preparations with a Central Italian bent, and a predominantly Italian, all-natural wine list that favors depth and character. The 4,000-square-foot cinder-block space has earthy terracotta surfaces, olive-grove–toned tiling, and glazed granite counters to evoke Italy while honoring the industrial heritage; a mega terrasse and expanded daytime offerings (coffee and mid-day meals starting in January) are planned, and the restaurant will host large events such as a New Year’s Eve bash. Gia is open at 1025 Lenoir, Wednesday to Saturday from 5 to 11 p.m. (hours subject to change after Christmas)." - Valerie Silva

"Located on the edge of the hip Saint-Henri neighborhood, this Italian-leaning restaurant was one of the best meals we had in 2024; the place is the epitome of cool—from its setting in an old warehouse home to artist studios to its vibe. Get a cocktail or a glass of natty wine and order anything the sweet staff recommends, and be on the lookout for pop-ups with cool traveling chefs frequently hosted here." - Coolstuff Team

We had a great night at Gia Vin et Grill! We sat at the bar, and although it took a bit of time to get our food, it was well worth the wait. We ordered the pici al ragu and the chicken breast—both were absolutely delicious. Portions were decent for two girls, though considering the higher price point, a little more generosity wouldn’t hurt (that said, the quality really delivered). The atmosphere was super warm and social—we ended up chatting with both the staff and other guests around the bar, which made the night even more enjoyable. The only small downside was the bar stools not having any back support, but honestly, the good vibes made up for it. There was a bit of confusion when we arrived since it looked like there was an event going on, and it wasn't immediately clear where to sit. But once an employee greeted us, everything flowed smoothly. Definitely coming back to try more off the menu—already excited for the next visit!

You can close your eyes and pick anything on the menu and you would still be happy. Everything we ordered was delicious. Still thinking about their duck pasta and steak. Immaculate vibe and food.

The food here was truly amazing. We had the raw halibut which was similar to a ceviche, the muscles with the salsa which were my favourite, pork and beef skewers, as well as three different salads, the green mint bean salad, the salad with mixed greens, as well as the zucchini salad. We also had the grilled arctic char and the lobster risotto. The risotto portion, I expected to be larger esp as a main, but with all the food we had, we were full.

The service and atmosphere are good but the quality is in average and the quantities are super small. It is pricey for a small pasta in pic one cost $42!

Every dish presented was cooked to perfection, showcasing fresh ingredients and expert culinary skill. The menu offered a wonderful variety, with options to satisfy many different tastes and preferences. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience, and I would certainly recommend it to others.

Lovely staff explain the menu thoughtfully. Not your typical pizza and pasta Italian spot. More niche selection from regions in Italy. Try the skewers! Really nice change from the usual!

I was extremely surprised and pleased that the restaurant exceeded my expectations. The food was great - as good as at the best places I ate in Tuscany while I was there. I would go back in a heartbeat.

5 stars- really 5 Gia feels like the kind of place you stumble upon and instantly hope never changes. Tucked just off the beaten path, it gives new meaning to hidden gem, the kind of restaurant you want to share with everyone, yet selfishly keep to yourself. We sat at the bar, soaking in the retro Italian beachside vibes even if it’s smack in the middle of a concrete jungle no beach in sight, yet that’s the vibe I got: warm wood, marble counters, stacks of bicchierini, old-school tunes and a gentle hum of conversation. It’s effortlessly stylish, unpretentious, and buzzing without being loud. A place that invites you to stay awhile. The food is thoughtful and beautifully balanced. From the fresh pink grapefruit fish crudo to the perfectly grilled duck spiedini and rich, fall-apart lamb belly, each plate celebrates bold ingredients with subtle finesse. The orange wine was a perfect pairing bright, structured and just funky enough to keep things interesting. Dessert? Gia doesn’t just “do” dessert…they mean dessert. The tiramisu was easily the best I’ve ever had; creamy, delicate with a decadent ganache and crisp brittle on top. The chocolate torta was pure comfort, dense and dark with a dollop of fluffed sweet cream to lighten the guilt. John looked after us with grace and ease, rounding out a night that felt entirely special from start to finish. Gia’s been open for a little while now, but it still feels like a secret and I truly hope it stays open for everyone to experience evenings like the one we had. And for those wondering about price: we've dined at our fair share of ristoranti and can honestly say Gia delivers exceptional value. For two; cocktails, wine, 5 dishes and through dessert, no holding back—the bill came to around $220 before tax and tip. For the quality, creativity, and quantity (designed to share), it’s more than fair. It’s giusto. We even were treated to a house limoncello, cin cin! Thank you Gia for the amazing hospitality and experience.
