GIANT Heirloom Market

It is my belief that Giant created Heirloom to charge millennials more for the same food by luring them inside with fancy branding and a massive beer/wine selection (seriously, it's huge). They did this perfectly. Whenever I walk into a Giant Heirloom I have such high hopes and I am always disappointed by the selection. The produce is the same but there's less of it. The frozen food is the same but there's less of it. I suppose there is more fancy cheese and wine but probably not more than a good local market. However, my biggest grip about this place is that they have NO Diet Coke. In fact, the have no coke or Pepsi products at all. I don't get this? Are they attempting to seem more upscale by not offering these products? They still have candy bars - what gives? The BIGGEST PRO of this place is their Sushi selection. For the uninitiated, Giant offers half-price sushi every Wednesday. At this location, they were still churning out fresh rolls at 7pm. PRO TIP: Try their Buffalo Chicken roll w cream cheese and hot sauce - its very unique and delicious. I think that Giant can do better than this for a small market like this. If you are going to charge more, offer different products. Hopefully, the regular Giant on the river gets reopened soon!

Clean but I don't like that they don't sell products that treat animals humanely. Infact giant itself doesn't treat animals humanely

Perfectly good grocery store that isn’t too crowded

I bought chicken breasts from here on June 27 with a sell by date of July 1. I opened the packet and the chicken was beyond spoiled: sickly sweet fruity smell and extremely slimy texture. Had to toss it in our outside bin because the smell was so pungent. Shocked that they have rotten chicken on the shelves, which suggests improper storage or temperature. This is a clear food safety issue. It was already bad that many of the staff are frequently rude, but we overlooked that and kept coming here because it’s conveniently located for us. But after buying rotten chicken here, we won’t be shopping here again.

I really like this store and I have been there a lot of times in the past few months. They are a smaller Giant store but they have a lot of different types of food. I really enjoy the precooked meals they offer at the store because they are so good and easy to prepare. The fruit is also very fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this store as a favorite of mine. They even make sushi and it is delicious.

An older white male employee kept staring at my son and me with an unnerving intensity. It made us both feel very uncomfortable, and I can't help but question the motivation behind his prolonged gaze.

Mostly a nice little grocery. The main issue is that pretty much every time I go here there are aisles blocked by pallets of stock that aren't put on the shelf yet. The carts are often broken or not returned to the entrance so unavailable. Additionally, the entire store is self checkout so larger shopping trips are difficult to manage. The produce is usually top quality.

Had been a long time shopper but had a terrible experience with store manager today. Our au pair is Spanish speaking and had family visiting from her home country. They were cooking a special dinner for our family and went to Heirloom to buy champagne. They didn't realize that they needed their passports to prove they were 21 to buy champagne. When they couldn't buy the champagne using their drivers licenses, our au pair called me to ask me to come buy the champagne. When I arrived I learned that the store manager had told the au pair (age 24) and her aunt and uncle (in their 50s) that they couldn't even hold the champagne bottle while they waited for me. The manager then refused to sell me the champagne because "ALL members of the party must show ID." She kept pointing to the sign which says nothing about all members of the party showing ID. In fact I have bought wine with my very young children on multiple occasions with no problem (they were not asked to show ID and in fact were clearly underage!) so this newly created rule makes no sense at all. When I challenged her on this and suggested that perhaps the reason for this new rule was that the customers did not speak English, she yelled at me and threw me out of the store. She was truly offensive. I am horrified by the discrimination against our friends. I absolutely will not be shopping at this store again. Completely offensive treatment.

I'm new in the hood and on prior 1st visit, found place kinda odd, in set-up and staff. Today, though, all was sweet. The friendly and helpful associate who rang me up, at beer/wine register, made me feel welcome. Clientele was friendly, too. Just the right vibe for me. Thnx!

If you don't get there at just the right time the deli may be open or closed. Prices for products available at a sale price at the Giant branded stores are higher priced at Heirloom. My interactions with staff are good. I have asked where to find something or how to operate the self checkout they were happy to help. The self checkout system is one of the worst in the industry. I believe most of the problems stem not from the managers or staff but can be traced back to corporate.

What a hidden gem! At least for me! I never knew Giant had a specialty store until I accepted an Instacart order to go there. When I first arrived at the store I was pleasantly surprised at how the market had a huge produce selection as a matter of fact most of the items in the store were made fresh. Most of my diet is plant based so I feel like vegans will love this store because they also have a huge plant based section which is hard to find in most regular food markets. Normally we just get a small selection to choose from so I'll definitely be returning just for those reasons. They also have a wine selection, gluten free and health based snacks that you can enjoy! Overall Giant heirloom Market is a small store but it packs a punch specifically for those that are health conscious or follow a special diet! Prices are reasonable as well!

Cute small store with average prices. People have told me how overpriced the groceries can be; but honestly the prices were comparable to the full size stores.

A new grocery store that is a smaller branch of Giant; welcome into the neighborhood! This location is amazing! It is clean with fresh produce as well as cut produce. It also has local pasta tomato pie and cheeses. It has a vast wine selection as well as organic dairy and a large freezer section this location appeals strongly to families in the area. I can see long lines in the future for Heirloom. (And South Square has some fierce competition!)

I love the fact that we have a nice market in the neighborhood. However, I've found Heirloom to be severely lacking in some of the basics. Twice I've popped in for an ingredient I needed for baking or another recipe and haven't been able to find what I need. The selection is just super limited compared to a regular grocery store. That said, I love the specialty items that this store features. There is always fresh, locally-made bread and pastries from Isgro's. They carry Turkey Hill ice cream, which I love. And there is a great selection of cold beverages including local favorites Baba's Brew and Inspired Brews. The beer and wine section takes up a really large part of the store; I wish they'd cut that back to make room for more essentials. However, they do have a great selection and they also have a wine chiller which is clutch when you need a bottle at the last minute. I'm not crazy about self-checkout as the only option but I generally only need a few items at a time so it's not too big a deal.

This market is fine in a pinch but it won't be my go to. Here's why... +'s: Produce section is solid. Reasonable vegan section. Staff is nice. -'s: Total rip-off. You will easily pay twice the price on many things here. Wines are marked up at least $5-10 per bottle over other establishments. Light on the actually healthy food. No non-dairy milks that don't contain chemicals, only gluten free crackers that contain milk, etc. I had high hopes for this place but it was a let down

I stopped in on Sunday during the Odunde festival to buy a couple things and saw a sign declaring that law enforcement prohibited the sale of alcohol during Odunde and encouraging people to stock up in advance. The suggestion that the attendees of Odunde should be denied alcohol when this city hosts sanctioned drinking all the time is gross. 1) Odunde is an African American celebration so one can infer that there's a need to police black people and access to alcohol 2) Odunde has existed for years without whatever craft beer Heirloom is offering and could careless about their alcohol 3) wondering if this biz has done the same for other events? Additionally, the location went cashless to deter cash back purchases and minimize patrons to the store (read: keep peaceful, celebrating African Americans out the store). They alleged they ran out of cash. It was pretty early in the day suggesting that that was not a likely occurrence. Super disappointed in this location. The optics and management of this are gross enough for me to not patron anymore.

I REALLY just come for the sushi!! Ha ha, but this is a great store. Sushi is always banging fresh and delicious. Its is made in store by the sweetest people! Fresh tuna and salmon paired with ripe avocado in the most squishy soft rice/seaweed roll.... what's not to love!? The Outer Banks Roll is my favorite (picture below). Produce is always really fresh here too. I find they carry items difficult to find in other stores. I love the organic nature of the products here. The bread and pastry sections carries locally made breads you can't find in other local grocery stores. The cheese section also has a lot of variety. Heirloom gets extra points from me for their on draft Kombucha bar with rotating flavors. Everyone is so nice here! If gluten-free, dairy free and soy free is your thing than this is your one stop shop.

Two words- CUSTOMER SERVICE! While this place can feel a little too small and the variety of option even smaller- the customer service is AMAZING! The staff is always there to help you find the right products for your needs. I recently hosted an event and the caterer backed out the day before. Next stop- Heirloom! Patrick and the team there helped me pull together everything I needed for a great event! And it was so much cheaper than what I would have paid for catering! And they even wrote me a card (pictured). So happy they opened in my neighborhood!

It's a small supermarket but carries local products such as Isgro's, High Street, Sarcobakery, Claudio's cheese. It carries wine too.?Very helpful staff. Several self checkouts with paper bags. The small shopping carts are cute .

Went in for opening day and can already tell that this grocery store will be a great addition to the neighborhood. The store is a bit small so navigation can be tight, but despite the size there is a wide variety of fresh produce and meat products, as well as a robust wine and beer selection. They also have desserts from Isgro Pastries (including cannolis), and I believe they're the only place outside of Isgro itself that has that claim to fame. What excited me the most was the deli counter, which has large, tasty looking sandwiches for only $6 (I did not purchase anything but my coworker purchased the Chickaboom sandwich and was very pleased). Sherrell, the worker behind the counter, was maybe the nicest person on the planet and let us sample everything, even making us sample wraps that weren't on the menu. I'm always on the lookout for new lunch options in the area, and Heirloom is definitely going on my list.

I grew up in a suburb of Philly where Giant was *the only* grocery store. And over the years I've watched the organic section grow from like, 1/8th of an aisle, to this entire store! Pretty cool! Since this is a specialty grocery store, it's definitely smaller than your average Giant - don't expect to have the amount of pickins you would at the regular stores. But the produce is fresh, and the cheese/booze section definitely doesn't leave you wanting. Also, kombucha on tap? I can't believe I'm so excited about this. What have I become. Docking a star for a minor detail, but one that I think is uncomfortable enough to warrant it: the self-checkout machines literally BELLOW the name and amount of whatever you're buying. It's a good thing I was buying pretty tame groceries the day I went, and not 2 boxes of super-extra-jumbo tampons........ just saying. Let's turn the volume WAY down and spare folks some potentially mortifying moments!

This store is great! It's small, but pretty mighty. I can usually find everything I need, especially in the produce department. Everything in the "fresh" aisles is always well stocked. Some of the grocery aisles and refrigerated sections by self-checkout can get low but I don't think I've ever had a scenario where I couldn't find something I needed. The store does a great job of covering the basics. I wish they carried items that are on sale/eligible for reward redemption in the app, but they tend to focus on giant branded items instead. The products are good quality, it's just a shame you see these rewards available and can never redeem them. (For example: one time there was a reward for 10 points or something extremely cheap to get a 2L bottle of the seasonal cranberry sprite, but heirloom stores don't carry name brand sodas like that.) On the flip side: the store is rarely ever crowded! I don't know how they manage to have such a nice store like this where it's not super crowded no matter what time or day of the week I go in. I live smack in the middle between Sprouts and Giant Heirloom and I have to say: I prefer the Heirloom!

Four times a week, I walk the Schuylkill River Trail. Usually, I stop at this market to pick up items that I need for my house which is nearby. The market is convenient, the service is fantastic and the selection is great. However, when I visited the market during Odunde, I noticed various discriminatory practices implemented specifically on the day of Odunde. One of those discriminatory practices being no liquor sales until after the festival was over. This is very interesting as during non-African centric holidays/festivals/large crowds these policies are not in place. Giant Heirloom is trying to put it on the PPD but there are no excuses here. Some of my neighbors have said they will wait to see if these same policies are implemented during 4th of July, Mummers etc. I will not wait. Update: Since posting this review I have received messages from other Yelp Reviewers stating that Odunde worked in conjunction with Heirloom to keep this a dry event. I have reached out directly to Odunde to confirm. Since pics have been posted by various people across numerous social media platforms, there has been communication regarding other discriminatory practices/experiences of racial bias inside of the store that have nothing to do with Odunde being a dry festival. Unfortunately, I am still discouraged by what I heard regarding the treatment of patrons inside of this store during Odunde.

Really the forefront of convenience for Grad Hospital. They have a deli area and a full selection of beer. Pretty similar to Sprouts in terms of what they stock. Automated checking area. As with any store it can get pretty busy on Sunday and lines will be long.

Best looking grocery store in the city by a mile. They easily one upped Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and Sprouts although it's a smaller format. Crazy low prices for organic peodict. Love the vegetarian selections and test kitchen. Local offering were amazing (isgroos, high street, tallutos, and local beers.) The neighborhood has urning for a decent grocery store and it shows by the amount of traffic coming in and out. Great to see so many locals working in the store.

Definitely the best grocery store in the grad hospital area. Will have most of what you want, definitely all the essentials, at a lower price than other stores. The produce seems to be good quality. They even have alcohol (wine and beer) for a slight mark up.

Very clean and there's a very wide selection of items including plant based items. Will start coming here more often rather than acme.

Pros: fresh produce, good selection of fruits and vegetables and some good prepared foods. Cons: no salad bar (that would a nice add). Most importantly the service for check out is non-existent. It's self service but often staff is standing around just watching you check out. Why not help out and pre-set a few paper bags? I needed help figuring out the check out and the person i flagged down was clearly annoyed that they had to help me check out. It would be a plus if they could add someone to the check out area who could be actually helpful.

I really like this grocery store - it is convenient to where I live and has everything I need. I would describe this as an upscale store with a wide selection of cheese, wine, and vegan/vegetarian options despite its small size. Don't expect a huge selection of chips, soda, and candy - they have the basics, but this place has more of a healthy focus. It is the perfect place to go if you just need a few things! Also appreciate that it is all self-checkout. Feels very safe during COVID.

I love that they offer primarily paper bags, I bring my own but paper is so much easier to recycle! Definitely a useful market to have, it provides a decent selection of organic and vegan options, as well wine and beer. If you like to cook you'll be satisfied with the selection of items, I was able to make a makati mushroom risotto and get all I needed! However when I was looking for tortillas to make a salad wrap they only had the small ones.. overall it's a win. If you're trying to stay healthy and shop in Small quantities you've shopped at the right place.

This place is amazing!! Why say you? Pricing is pretty decent. You can get a frozen pizza for $5, a pot roast dinner for 2 for $20 (you just throw it in the crockpot), orange roughy with a dollop of butter in it for like $7. The selection is also impressive. They did a great job with the space jam packing it with everything you need. I believe most of the food brands are local. There is a "make your own olive oil" station, a coffee grinder, I believe an area where you can get a growler of fresh juices, a place where you can get custom made sandwiches, and a place to chill your vino while you shop. God damn this place is legit. They also carry beer! The best thing above all is their customer service. Everyone is so helpful and friendly..it's like "you can't be Philadelphians! You are too nice!" That place is a one stop shop and we needed it SO badly in our neighborhood. I swore off ever going food shopping again a couple years ago and Heirloom Market changed my mind!

I've been in here twice already and can foresee the looongggg relationship we will be having. I hope the store stays looking organized and fresh. And the employees stay generous. Great selection of produce and meats; everything you can think of. It is a little tight to maneuver through some isles, but I can get used to that. Many organic and vegan options! Prices seem okay to me! Must let you know, they're aren't any cashiers to ring you out. There are about 7 self-check-out areas only. Bring your own bags unless you like using their paper ones. I found parking at the side of the building, on Bainbridge, which was "loading 30 min."

I like the location and that it's clean and fresh- with great pricing and variety in organic produce but that comes with being new so I hope they keep those things up. The thing I was the most impressed with, which is also the reason why now they only get 4 stars instead of 5, was when they first opened there were some great supermarket pricing on premium ice cream brands. I thought finally a market in the city that doesn't hold ice cream hostage!! We loved it but then a week or so in and all of a sudden the prices are back up for ice cream. What is it about ice cream? Why does it have to be so gouged out? It is the same issue at South Street, Wawa and CVS! This makes you have to always go to a large market to get decent pricing if you want a pint of ice cream. If Heirloom stops the excessive ice cream markups they'll get five stars from me

Love coming here to get local stuff. Very clean and staff is great. For being a smaller store, you can't expect the same number of options as a suburban Giant. Yet, there are still lots of choices, great deli sandwiches and meat selections. They seem to really want to be close to the community.

How I wish this place was around when I lived in G-Ho! This is a one-stop shop for most of your grocery needs. It reminds me of a higher profile Trader Joe's. It has a deli where you can get sandwiches, cold cuts and the like as well as a nice selection of prepared meals. I enjoyed the abundant selection of Nature's Promise and gluten-free items as well as the beer and wine section. The one thing I wasn't crazy about was the self check-out, which is the only way to check out. Not bad if you have a few items, but if I'm hauling a bunch of things, I'd rather someone ring me up.

I just want to give a shout out to whoever the check out attendant was tonight. I dropped my rotisserie chicken and just wanted to clean up the mess I made. Without me even saying a word to him, he had already sprinted to grab me a new rotisserie, insisted that I take it, and offered to clean up MY mess. The staff is always super friendly and helpful here, but I feel like this guy went above and beyond. Incredible customer service. Thank you!

Nice small scale grocery store. Produce very good, not the store for staples. Frozen selection good, good gluten free section as well.

Pros: Fresh produce, good wine/beer selection, fair prices, some good local fare like isgro & high street, great customer service, good inexpensive sushi Cons: Awful layout, to the point where it's not worth getting in line twice -- once for alcohol and then again for food-- when it's crowded. Pre-packaged meals are not good. Quirky choice of products which will be a pro or con depending on whether they suit you. Self serve checkout only, leading to slow checkout and, when crowded, hilarious customer/employee interactions. (In self-service checkouts, I play the game "how many times must an employee intervene in the process to have a customer check "themselves " out. Highest count is 5 so far). Ultimately I am happy to have an alternative in the neighborhood, but I am currently using it to buy specific items only (like wine, beer, protein bars, and yogurt)

I shop here every day for goods for dinner/lunch. I am generally pretty happy about the store: it's price, convenience and selection. However I just opened my THIRD piece of spoiled meat product. Within the past 6 months we have had spoiled sausage, spoiled steak and spoiled chicken. They need to ensure proper storing of their meat products. I will be shopping elsewhere for meat from now on since they clearly cannot handle it correctly.

Great prices and wonderful selection of local goods! It is a bit small, but has everything that I need. I loved the Isgro's cookies.

Very friendly service. It was a 9 min walk from where I was staying. Convenient and clean. Only paper bags though, so bring your own bags if you'll be buying heavier items (e.g., apples, milk). Wish they had a larger vegetable selection but it was decent for a neighborhood grocer.

Very very small selection of meat, fish and produce. It's actually just an expanded organic aisle at a Stop and Shop and is just as overpriced as a regular Stop and Shop. I was pretty disappointed. I prefer Sprouts for my healthy grocery shopping.
