"I learned that the first Giant Heirloom Market in the country opens Friday, January 25, at 2303 Bainbridge Street, and it feels like the fancy version of the ubiquitous Pennsylvania-based grocery chain (they have about 170 supermarkets across PA, MD, VA and WV). The 9,500-square-foot store will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and promises kombucha on tap, “artisanal breads,” lots of vegan items, a blend-your-own olive oil and vinegar station, organic and “flavor-focused” foods, and an onsite Produce Chef who will cut fresh vegetables and fruit on demand. I also noticed it will carry local favorites from Philly—High Street on Market, Isgro Pastries (with the hoped-for ricotta cookies), Sarcone’s Bakery, and One Village Coffee—and that the store will sell both wines and beers." - Rachel Vigoda
