The Best Restaurants Near Logan Square

"Yes, The Giant on 23rd Street is your run-of-the-mill grocery store selling eggs that will make you yell, "How much?" when reading the label. But this location also has an outdoor balcony with surprisingly nice views of the Schuylkill. Head out here with a bag of chips and some beer or wine from the store. Or bring a date for a slightly unhinged but sweet night." - candis mclean

The 15 Best First Date Spots In Philly

"Stay with us on this one. The Giant by the Schuylkill on 23rd Street has a rooftop seating area with oddly nice sunset views. You can hang out there for the price of a cheap six-pack or a random bottle of wine from the booze section of the grocery store. It’s a plan that's just weird enough to work (and inexpensive enough to ease your upsetness if the date bombs). We’re not suggesting you eat from the hot food station at the supermarket. If you get hungry and things are going well, go to Thanal down the street and eat some tandoori shrimp that tastes smoky after being marinated in curry and chili powder. " - candis mclean

The Giant By The Schuylkill - Review - Center City - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Yes, The Giant on 23rd Street in Center City is your run-of-the-mill grocery store selling milk and eggs that will make you yell, "How much?" when reading the label. But this location also has an outdoor balcony with strangely nice views of the Schuylkill. When you want a view to help you forget about the five items swallowing your paycheck, head here with a bag of chips and some beer or wine from the store. Or bring a date for a slightly unhinged but ultimately sweet night." - Candis R. McLean

Google
great grocery shopping experience. the store has everything you need and more, with reasonable prices and even restrooms available. the bakery section looked incredible. i couldn’t resist grabbing some donuts. the boston cream donut was especially delicious, packed with filling in every bite!

Google
When this store opened it was great. Things have changed. I never know when the escalator will be working for the 2nd floor grocery store. There are not enough cashiers and the self-check outs are too sensitive. So, I constantly need help, which is slow. Selection has become worse too. Many other stores available. This will be my very last time here

Google
This store is in a great location and has well-stocked aisles and helpful friendly staff. Parking is the main challenge at the location on 23rd street. I have often been unable to find a space. After the barrier gates were removed and ticketing access stopped, people who live in the apartments across the drive started using it for free long term parking rather than paying the $400 their complexes charge. The store management apparently has been unable to identify these vehicles and dissuade this practice with ticketing or towing. Because of this I often drive in and then out and go to Trader Joe's.

Google
This place is discriminative. My children's father worked here for 5 years and devoted years of his life to them. Worked his way all the way up to a managerial position and the due to life circumstances was unable to get his job back. He spent most his days here while I was home with our children and this place wouldn't even have been able to operate certain stations without him. You give this place your time and they will show exactly how much they think you're worth. Wish I didn't have to give it 1 star at all

Google
This store has everything it needs to be great but it has serious issues. 1. They moved their personal care and home products into a separate section with a separate cash register and reduced hours. This means you can't buy products like laundry detergent after 8PM. It also means you may check out three separate times if you want, for example, a bottle of wine, laundry detergent, and food. 2. They constantly short staff the check outs and force everyone to use their awful self checkouts. These self checkouts always encounter issues and require staff assistance. I once waited 20 minutes for a traditional checkout line even though I started as second in line because a DoorDasher went through multiple transactions and only one line was open. 3. The helpfulness of the employees varies a lot. I once asked where the hummus was and two separate employees just said, "I don't know." and that was that. It's too bad because the store is large and has the potential to be amazing.

Google
This sized & quality store is such an amazing addition to the city. You can't get all you need at Trader Joes + Whole Foods/Di Bruno/corner stores are insanely pricey. Giant has been a great middle + bonus for the wine section!

Monica Mellini

Google
This is one of the cleanest, brightest grocery stores I have ever seen. The aisles are very wide. I am astonished at the in-store restaurant and beverage offerings. Parking garage is free for 2 hours and has 4 EV charging stations.

Andrew Cunningham

Google
Beer counter employee was weirdly homophobic to me and my boyfriend trying to buy some beer. Denied us for no reason and was pretty nasty. We’re both 21 with valid ID and plenty of young people check out with no problem. “Not losing my liquor license” just because I had a New York State license Didn’t catch his name but older with white hair. Heading to the spring garden giant in the future. Don’t go here - escalator is broken and employee obviously homophobic.

Yelp
Good selection and prices reasonable and safe part of town. Easy to walk to. I'll go here again when in Philly

Yelp
One of the largest grocery stores in the city, and also very well stocked. Has all the typical grocery items, but also features it's own deli counter, butcher, florist, in house sushi, sandwich shop, salad shop, bakery, and a huge cafe with dozens of taps. Also has a rooftop patio. Great hours open early to get in before the rush. Buy some snacks, grab a drink, and go enjoy the view. Thanks

Yelp
It is hard to believe I am reviewing a grocery store, however, this Giant is far from a simple grocery store. Yes, it has all the groceries you might need. However, it also a small foot court of offerings, a wall of beer taps, a great outdoor patio to relax on, and free parking (well, I think only the 1st hour or 2 is free). Come for their sushi specials on Wednesday night ($5 rolls)!
google avatar

Yelp
Lots of options for groceries. Decent food court although the options are mostly more mainstream rather than more unique for its premium location. They offer all flavors of their soup recipes it looks like rather than cycling through them at smaller Giant stores. Giant's offerings are quality and prices are reasonable overall, but I'd like some more flair with things like their soup options. The alcohol options stand out with pull your own beers on tap. The mexican meat burritos replaced the steak option on Mission Taqueria's menu but this is not yet reflected on their computer screen menu. They are also a bit more expensive. I am not used to seeing a place to dispense needles in a grocery store bathroom. I guess this is a good thing and I am showing my age.

Yelp
The manager hung up on me after waiting 20mins, called back only to get the very rude clerk Benita yet again ! I got transferred to 3 departments none an answered! Clicked a button simply put on hold! I love Giant their grilled Chx is amazing! However, they lost me today! Absolutely! Rude! Non Professional all around the board! I wish I had recorded the conversation! it's just plain non friendly & absurd!

Paula B.

Yelp
I-love Giant delivery. It is inexpensive and relatively punctual. Produce is picked well and items arrive undamaged. The only thing I dislike is that items in the store are not available you online.
google avatar

Pablo C.

Yelp
Clean, organized and the staff is helpful like their products and fair prices also if you have an electric vehicle you can charge it for 2 hours
google avatar

Fred M.

Yelp
Great supermarket with big selections. I love the fresh soft pretzel sticks! Fresh baked bread. YUMMY!!!
google avatar

Yelp
It's great to have this full service grocery store that in the middle of center city. Prepared food, a bakery, sushi, a Mexican food counter and beer/wine are also available. It's a great place to pick up lunch or things for dinner. Seating is available. Beer and wine are available on tap. You use a credit card to get a bracelet then use the bracelet at the tap to pay as you go. It's pretty cool! The store is clean so are the bathrooms. Parking is available. A Starbucks is on site too
google avatar

Yelp
This supermarket is a great addition to the city. It's a literally giant modern supermarket. Upon entering the store you can find a nice Starbucks cafe. There's an escalator for human and escalator for the shopping cart. On the second floor there's a door to go to a nice size patio to enjoy beautiful weather and city view. Near the floral section you can find French macarons, cupcakes, and gelato. You pay it there. The macarons are pretty good but a bit too sweet for me. There are rows of handhelds scanners that links to your Giant card. You scan your groceries and pay what you bought. I haven't tried it but a friendly employee explained it to me. If you don't have a Giant card you can apply at the customer service. It allows you to get special prices. Also at the customer service, you can find a map of the store which is handy due to the size of the store. There's kombucha station by the produce section. There are some local products such as varieties of peanut butter and almond butter. Once you pass the produce you will find sushi station where sushi are preapared on site, Salad works, prepared foods including varieties of uncooked flatbreads that can be made there. As you follow along on the left you will find Mission Taqueria. Their main restaurant is at 15 and Sansom. At the back area you will find varieties of beer on tap, in the fridge, and on the shelf. You can find soft pretzel to, perfect companion for the beer. There are seating areas and tv to watching sports. Also you can enjoy the view of river while you are enjoying your beer and or dessert, which are available next to the beer section. You don't feel like you're in a supermarket. What is special about this supermarket is that they carry a lot of local products: High Street Bread, Isgro's pastries, Claudio's pasta and cheese, DiBruno's cheese spread. Next to the deli station is the cannoli counter where you can pick the shell ( regular or chocolate covered), choose the fillings (regular, strawberry, blueberry) and put some toppings if you like. However I don't recommend the regular cannoli, it's bland. They have products that I've never seen them n other stores such as plantain flour, crepe mix. Most importantly, at the meat section they have dry-aged beef in a special glass display. There's also a special section dedicated for plant-based food. At the checkout, there are several self service and the regular ones. The register station is similar to the ones at Trader Joe's. No conveyor belt, small space to put your groceries so you have to unload them a bit at a time. Very environmentally friendly with paper bags. In summary, this supermarket gives you a different kind of experience. I called it grocery shopping with a view.

Yelp
I had a horrible experience in that store after having shopped there since they opened. On Monday, I went there after I left the office and finished working out at the gym. I live nearby. After I paid for my purchases, two young, very skinny black men approached me and demanded I open my bag while they checked my receipt. After they realized they had made a mistake, and after I told them they should make sure someone is a shoplifter before approaching them, they both literally ran off. I walked to customer service, near the escalators, to ask a manager what just happened and why. The clerk was off-putting, telling me the managers, Jessica and Mike, were unavailable. The one skinny black man who had accosted me came over and stood there staring at me while I was waiting for a manager who never came. Then he walked off. The location is great, but the level of help working there is out of their element. We will go back to shopping at Giant, 20 miles out of Philadelphia, from now on. The experience at the Riverwalk Giant Supermarket was terrifying.

Yelp
I really like this new Giant. It is conveniently located near the Art Museum district and offers a free parking in their garage for 2 hours. The ground floor hosts a Starbucks (or did prior to the unfortunate flooding) and their grocery pick-up service. The supermarket, quick service restaurants, and bar are all located on the second floor. The supermarket is a full format and has just about everything you may need, unlike their smaller Heirloom markets. They also have a SaladWorks, flatbread pizza bar, hot foods bar, sushi counter, Mission Taqueria, and alcohol to go and to consume on-site. The alcohol for on-site consumption is pay per ounce controlled by an RFID bracelet that you obtain from the register and hook up to your credit card (similar to Bru). They have seating available inside and at an outdoor deck, which is lovely. I have done several weekly shops and quick stops for specific items and have yet to be disappointed by the selection or service. The self-check out and scan as you go allows the lines to move quickly, and I was recently informed that you can scan and pay with your phone using their new Scan It! app.
google avatar

Elise P.

Yelp
Great selection, I really like the self scan it option. As you go up the elevators you'll see a kiosk with little handheld barcode scanners. There you scan your giant card and one scanner will light up and you take that one around the store and just scan whatever you add to your cart. It seems like this way you can also pack away your groceries as you go around, taking away having to do it all at the end. You then go towards the entrance side of the checkout line, there's signage, and go through self checkout to scan your barcode on your scanner and pay. Easy concept! I will likely be back even if it's far from my apt to try out the kombucha and beer tap walls and the little cafeteria area.

Yelp
they didn't have my seaweed and I'm about to flip out I just wanted my seaweed. how dare they not have my seaweed. IVE BEEN LOOKING FOWARD TO THIS LIKE OMFG. I just wanted my seaweed. I've been looking forward to it. how dare this place not have anymore seaweed. I'm so done with giant rn and all I wanted was my god darn seaweed. I can't believe this. I am so pissed why wouldn't you have my flipping seaweed. All I wanted was my seaweed. 1 flipping star is what u deserve. anyways I got my fruit snacks so Love you giant

Yelp
This place is huge. Private parking lot with side entrance right into Starbucks. Once up the escalators, you walk onto a drink bar, towards the right into the produce section and it goes on pending which direction you move towards. Prices are reasonable and lots of fresh ingredients. The plus side about this place is the dine in food court and drinks. It is definitely somewhere to shop and grab a bite. They also have a wine and beer section. Pretty nice selection. Bakery is small but right next to the charcuterie area. Pretty cool.

Yelp
I knew I fit right into my 30s when I got way too stoked to check out this new Giant in Philly! This new Giant lives up to its hype of being brand spanking new with a nice food court and a cool pour-your-own beer bar area and a huge beer and wine selection. With that said, their customer service is beyond lacking. The store was filled with associates but none of them chose to engage with the customers at any point- not even with a friendly "good afternoon" or "may I help you with anything?". Everyone either was too distracted or detached to even make eye contact. In one instance, I approached one of the food counters to ask a question about the soup bar by saying "excuse me" and the worker behind the counter didn't even look up and grunted "yeah?" in response. I get better service at my local Dollar Tree and that's not a dig at Dollar Tree. The only other point of engagement was when I went to the checkout to pay for my items - so shout out to Ed at the food hall checkout area! So yes, the space looks nice and there's a ton of selection but the people that help to run the space also need to understand the customer experience also means training your associates in what proper customer service means.

Yelp
The new Giant is huge and has a large selection of hot food and beverages. Their self serve beer/wine section is easy to use, and is very sanitary. My wife and I have lived in this area for over seven years. This grocery store is leaps and bounds better than anything in the area. What impressed us the most is Omar. He quickly introduced himself to us when we walked in. He gave us a mini tour of the area, explained how the self serve beer/wine section worked, and rang us up for our wrist bands to use said section. Coming from a customer service background, I was more than impressed with his patience and his kind attitude. He went above and beyond to help us get acquainted with the new facility. Someone get Omar a raise!

Yelp
I think I got too used to the friendliness from Trader Joe's employees. I literally walked 3 times around this huge Giant market, not one, no employees greeted the customers. In fact, when I was coming out of their outdoor terrace (which by the way is pretty nice sans all the constructions around the terrace) I came face to face with an employee who was stocking items. He just looked away, moved his cart, and ignored me. The only friendly employees can be found at the Starbucks on the ground floor. Lack of customer service aside, I do have to say their food court selections are pretty good. Meat section was also nice, however, a bit disappointed with the baking section with only basic flour and sugar options. With a market this size I guess I was expecting them to have a lot more selections. Their produce aisles were nice too. It is definitely a good place to shop with all your grocery needs. Added bonus is the underground parking which connects directly to the ground floor (where you can find the elevator, escalators, and Starbucks).
google avatar

Havard C.

Yelp
The terrace on the giant is without a doubt fantastic, and above all up to standard. I gotta give credit to the staff working there and if I can describe it in 3 words top notch, professional and absolutely fantastic. The food selections are without a doubt, magnificent. As far as the ambiance, it brings some serious positivity. Makes me wish I'd work there and help the customers. It is also good for those who love the view of the Schuylkill river and the convenience is up to par. I would recommend it to my friends and family not because they are avid shoppers, but because of how amazing the customer service is as a whole.
google avatar

Clare D.

Yelp
I've been waiting so long for this store to open and now I'm glad I did, because it was truly worth the wait. A fabulous selection of everything from popular store brands to "better store brands" (Boar's Head, Three Little Pigs) to specialty items (an imported selection of fresh breads and pastries from High Street Market and Isgro's), there's no reason to spend my money on the overpriced Whole Foods Market. There's even 28-day aged prime steak! I love the early to late hours (6am to 11pm). Sometimes I shop real late and I'm the only one in the store!
google avatar

Barbara V.

Yelp
Visiting my daughter and had to stock up as I would be here for the week. I was so impressed with the garage that I was able to get a spot. The store was enormous, very clean and well stocked. I was a little confused as it was not set up like my "home store" in Lancaster. Each time I asked an employee for help finding something they were happy to take me to the item requested. It was worth the 20 minute drive!!!!!

Suzanne C.

Yelp
Everytime I come to the Havertown Giant, I am aggravated! The scanners arent working, the scales dont work, the inventory is low, theres trash in the parking lot, not enough cashiers, even Giant direct sold me cheesecake that expired 2 months ago! I dont know why I torture myself coming here. I should have stopped at the Springfield Giant! Cannot wait till Drexeline opens.
google avatar

Julie T.

Yelp
New Giant scam for shop from home customers. Tried ordering numerous Giant products because they are cheaper. ALL SAID OUT OF STOCK. They expect you to "order up" to more expensive item just because you need it. I then went into store and found 90% of the Giant product ON THE SHELF. Wake up people and realize this grubby company is sticking it o us.(Bag of bakery bagel juniors was $3.00 NOW $5.25. Come on for flour and water..yea yea still blaming covid
google avatar

Yelp
What wonderful additions to the area. The outdoor terrace is adds another level comfort to your shopping experience. Grab quick a bite enjoy the beautiful scenery and put your feet up. Do you bean toss? Pick your opponent and the game is on! A must do come and enjoy the beautiful terrace. Grocery shopping hasn't ever tasted so good
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
This is a modernized grocery store that is a fantastic addition to the area. This store looks like it was designed to be a hub for the neighborhood and a place to meet with the outdoor area and prepared food options, plus beer on tap.
google avatar

Frankjc3rd C.

Yelp
I make use of the delivery service from this supermarket. They are very good and the price seems reasonable.

Francesca F.

Yelp
PSA: Never use the delivery option. I tried to have groceries delivered between the 8-10pm time slot. They weren't delivered, so I called Giant. They told me I had to call Peapod bc they do all of the deliveries and it has nothing to do with the actual Giant store. So I called Peapod - they're closed. No delivery, no one can help, and now I'm without groceries at 10:30pm at night. Do yourselves a favor and avoid this headache and awful customer service.
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Nice variety of items, but checkout is often a huge pain. The self checkout machines are way too sensitive and take way longer than using a real cashier lane. Unfortunately, most cashiers are new and don't know really how to process coupons or apply price adjustments. It often takes too long to wait for a manager to come and address self checkout machines/issues at checkout. I go only when I absolutely need to.

Laura D.

Yelp
We really like this store, but it's parking lot not so much. All security guards, when downstairs in the parking lot, are always hiding behind a the same post (closest to the sliding doors) watching their phones. The garage's corner (closest to the elevators) always has workers (and others) exchanging and smoking green smelly stuff. To each their own, specially now that it's legal, but I just don't enjoy the smell of any smoke, specially one that lingers all over the lot. This has gotten progressively worse. Not enjoyable and it's just a pain to walk through that lot now.

John T.

Yelp
Not great, but not terrible The Good - its clean and there's a wide variety of items plus a very large area for alcohol. The general space of the place is HUGE The bad - it's expensive, as a normal weeks worth of groceries might be $120 at Trader Joe's is $150 here. The layout is confusing as There are multiple spots for the same items, many times the organic version vs. the non-organic version but not really near each other (ex: frozen fruits). You checkout your own stuff and the bags, when full, don't easily fit into the plastic carts. Speaking of which, the carts are small and loading full bags into the bottom is almost impossible Won't be returning

Laura P.

Yelp
It's so nice to have a large non-specialty grocery store open in the area. And it has lots of neat features as well -- food made to order to eat in-store or on the deck, beer wall, wine, lots of great items, a nice meat and seafood dept. Lots to like here!

Rhoshanna B.

Yelp
Giant has a lot of Keto foods. Every time I go there I find something new and low sugar. I can't wait til they open the Broad and Springgarden location.

Anne Marie R.

Yelp
For Thanksgiving I ordered a bunch of gift cards for people in need. Some of them were never delivered & I received notification in December after Christmas. I contacted customer service immediately to get this resolved now in January 2022 I'm still having issues, I keep being put on a hold & hung up on. People were really expecting a warm meal for the holidays & Giant did not deliver nor provided a refund so I can go else where. Over $100 of my money gone where????? One of the reps stated " Oh I have the cards here". WHY?????????? Either mail it or refund me what's the issue.

Louiaw B.

Yelp
I am never returning to this location even though it's in my neighborhood. I had trouble getting into the parking lot and the ticket didn't come through the slot. The person upstairs opened the gate and let me in. I did my shopping and when I tried to exit they told me I had to pay $5.00 in order to get through the gate. The girl said "it's either $5 or $50 when we tow you. Wow. Horrible customer service. She's young and I'm in my 70s and she didn't care to even try to help so I went against my principles and gave her the $.

Banana M.

Yelp
I'm giving this rating a 2/5 stars because my dogs, my toes, my foot, was able to break through the bag with ease. You should really make these bags more durable and ACTUALLY useable for something.

ariyana e.

Yelp
The actual store and employees are pleasant but the store managers are so rude. Just the way they talk to their employees is embarrassing and I cannot understand how they even received those positions. The managers Lisa and Jennifer are completely unprofessional. It seems racially profiled as well. They either need better training or to be removed from the establishment all together.

Debbie K.

Yelp
Obsessed, clean, organized, spacious. Love this giant. The manager helped me carry my groceries out and I was truly amazed. Can't wait to go back

elisa r.

Yelp
Beautiful, friendly, safe, great selection! There at a busy time and safety protocols were available and enforced.

Megan B.

Yelp
Store looks nice and is clean but has a strange layout making it hard to find things - if you ask a staff member they're friendly but either they don't know if they carry that item or they don't know where it is. Also make sure you're checking the prices that come up at the register as more than once the sale prices haven't come up for items, requiring an employee to go see the item on the shelf for themself and then come back to override the system for me.
