Where to Eat and Drink in Portland’s Lents Neighborhood | Eater Portland

"Lents’s go-to takeout pizza destination, Giants is the labor of love from owner Eugene Shiriac, who learned his trade in Italy, New York, and Maryland before bringing a dedication to New York-style pies to southeast Portland. Orders are taken from a cart adjacent to the Lents Islander convenience store, but the real magic happens inside the brick and mortar building in back, where dough is prepared and the pizzas are baked to crispy-crust perfection. Giants is closed Sundays and is takeout only — no on-site seating." - Nathan Williams

Where to Find Cheesy, Satisfying Pepperoni Pizza in Portland

"Giants chef and owner Eugene Schiriac brings a lifetime of pizza experience — from Italy to the Washington D.C. suburbs — to his popular cart just across the street from Lents Park. Dough is prepared and refrigerated in the brick-and-mortar space behind the cart, and pizzas are baked in the electric oven inside. The result is one of the most convincing New York-style slices in Portland, with crackery-crispy crust — thin enough for Tony Manero to stack and fold two slices — with light sauce and greasy cheese. The Luigi pepperonis are coarse ground with plenty of flavor without being particularly hot. Note: there is no dedicated seating at the cart, but the park across the street is perfect for a picnic when the weather permits." - Nathan Williams

Love this place! I used to go years ago when it was downtown by my workplace. Then I discovered it was closer to my home. Got the family a big pepperoni pizza to share. My niece was in heaven! NY style pizza is one of her favorite foods and she’s super picky. So happy she’s already devouring her 2nd slice. I remember the NY club with spicy bacon, so I got myself a 6 inch and shared with my sister. They said they’d been wanting to try this sandwich because I raved about it all the time. Everything was as yummy as I remember! Will be ordering again for sure.

Google
OUTSTANDING customer service. I showed an interest in the pizza making so the lady was so nice and took time to come out of the cart and chat with us about the pizza and ingredients. I got the chance to see the inside of the cart while chatting with her- VERY clean and tidy not to mention the pizza tasted AMAZING! we got the 18 inch pep and garlic bread which so our surprise was actually croissants, HUGE and just the right amount of butter and garlic. The marinara sauce was to die for. I’ll be back!

Google
Delicious pizza! The pizza is made thin and lightly crispy. Nice undercarriage and not too greasy or heavy. I really enjoyed it and will be back to order a whole pizza. Update: Ordered a whole pie and tried their sandwiches. The whole pie was delicious (just like the slice I had the first time I came here) and their sandwiches have great flavor and tasted incredibly fresh. The bread is baguette style that is lightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They also include some vinaigrette on the side with their cold sandwiches that complemented the sandwich perfectly. Cheesesteak is also top tier! This is now my favorite pizza/sandwich place and will be coming back as much as I can. The owners and staff were also super friendly. I highly recommend you give this place a try!

Google
This place is truly a hidden gem. It's a food truck with permanent residence next to a mini Mart that serves some of the best NY style pizza I've ever had. It's a shockingly underwhelming experience where you'd think you're just grabbing a gas station style slice but when you taste it, oh my lord are you in for a surprise. The crust is thin and crisp, the sauce is flavorful and light, the cheese is perfectly layered on top and isn't drowning in grease like most pizzas are. I live in Vancouver and will go way out of my way to stop at this place whenever I get the chance. It's some of the best NY style pizza in all of Portland.

Google
First time, ordered 2 pizzas, both were not what we ordered. One was just supposed to be a pepperoni pizza and came back half cheese. They were big & greasy. Spoke with the owner, who told me they never get orders wrong. I will never come back.

Google
It’s been 7 hours and 15 days, and I’m still thinking about this sandwich. My grandparents owned a subs and pizza shop in a strip mall in Southern California in the 1980s and this is the closest thing I’ve ever found to what they made! It was like a nostalgia bomb. Can’t wait to go back.

Google
Food is always delicious! We have ordered from here a few times for office lunches. Sandwiches are very fresh. Pizzas are delicious! The garlic rolls are amazing! And mozzarella sticks are really good too. The last 2 times tho I have tried to ordered the Stromboli, and my coworker ordered a calzone. Both time we both got calzones.

Google
Absolutely adore this place. I've tried an abundance of the items on the menu and loved all of them. The pizza is fresh with a lovely thin crispy crust. The subs are sizable and hit the spot perfectly along with the fries. And the cannolies are true and proper cannolies. My compliments to the polite and fast staff.

Yelp
Got a slice of pepperoni and it was hot and thin and crust crispy. Tomato sauce had a nice tang to it. Also, got the Italian sub, great bread and the sandwich was very good.

Yelp
Wow!!! I was looking for nearby pizza by the slice & came across this place via google maps...& holy SHITE I'm glad I did. I'm not exaggerating when I say the "Italian Sub" is one of my favorites I've ever had.The pizza is very good as well. I cannot wait to try more things on the menu. Judging by what I just had I'm sure it's all FANTASTIC EDIT-I just ate here again. Of course it was deelish. While I have had Canoli all over the world...including when I've been to Italy, I wouldn't call myself an expert. Prior to today I wouldn't even say Canoli is one of my favorite deserts/pastry. Maybe it's because never actually had a really good Canoli? Or maybe it's because Giants's NY Canoli is so next-level better than any Canoli I've ever had...nothing has ever compared? Whatever the answer to this personal Canoli puzzle is(?)the bottom line is their Canoli is absolutely AMAZING & by far the best I've ever had & I highly recommend

Yelp
The Italian sub was excellent ! Thanks to the lady who made it as well ! She was pleasant to chat with !!

Yelp
Great NY style Pizza. I was a little skeptical of this place and any other place that uses NY in their name, because its always an oversold hype. NOT this place. they live up to the name. Just wish they had more options for different types of slices
google avatar

William N.

Yelp
I will say I prefer neo style pizza, but this place makes me reconsider that at times. I come in for a slice occasionally and have had the fries. All very well done for any pallet. Will try the garlic rolls today and report

Yelp
Giants NY Pizza & Subs is an unmarked bright red food cart located next to a convenience store, on a busy intersection just north of Lents Park. There is no seating, so be prepared to stand outside or pop into the neighboring convenience store. Service is standard. Wait times aren't too long, especially for the subs. Might be worth calling ahead for a larger order. This family-operated business serves pizza, stromboli, calzones, hot and cold subs, salads, an assortment of fried appetizers (fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, garlic rolls, etc). Prices seem a little high to me but maybe that's just how much food costs these days. For example, 12" pizzas range from $18-24 and 18" range from $26-36. 6" subs are $10-12 and 12" are $14-16. I got a veggie sub and mozzarella sticks and they were delicious. I imagine their many meat dishes are even more delicious. I'd love to come back for a pizza or calzone.

Yelp
This the 89th place I've had pizza in Portland. Considering I've had more good pizza than bad, it's possible for Giant's to be good, and still average. Cheesy, foldable, a little grease dripping, done crust--check all the boxes but nothing stands out. Could they cut the pepperoni thinner, I doubt it. But, yeah, okay pizza.
google avatar

Trouble C.

Yelp
I had heard about this pizza for years. Today, my GPS put it as an added stop on my way somewhere so it was destiny. Ordered a slice of cheese & my favorite mushroom. Price was reasonable and about what I paid in NJ. It was windy AF & the person working offered to bring to my car when ready so I didn't have to wait outside--super sweet! Got home & dove in--yaaassssss! It is the closest I've tasted to East Coast since I've been in the PNW! Good size slices, not overly fancy sauce with a nice mild tang & a cheese pull that had me beaming! I even had to send the pic to family back east to make them drool.

Yelp
Drove by this spot and figured we would try it, we absolve us some pizza - breadsticks and or anything else. The pizza slice was amazing, soft and perfect!! Loved the garlic rolls, fluffy, light and very tasty!!! Fries were good and I am not a seasoned fry fan but it was amazing, Quick service, friendly & decent parking!! Highly recommend this spot to anyone!!!! Thank you.

Yelp
Giants has everything going for them when it comes to pizza by the slice, so it may be a while before I get to explore other items on the menu. It may seem strange, but the one thing that jumped out at me was that this may be the only by-the-slice place I've ever been to that had convenient parking. Typically these businesses are in neighborhoods that are great for walking (Hawthorne, NW 23rd, inner Division, anywhere in NYC) but you never know how far away you'll need to leave your car. As for the food, this plus-sized cart turns out lovely slices - perfect ratio of cheese to sauce on a thin crust that has a bit of crunch and a bit of chew. The combination of being able to pull into the parking lot next to the cart, and then get a slice (or two) hot from the oven makes Giants the best kind of fast food experience I can think of. And, I really want to try their sandwiches some time...

Yelp
Delicious pizzas Love the fact that it's outside eating, I do wish they had something to hide u from the noise of the cars but oh well. If u get the food Togo they bring it to your car! Absolutely love it.

Yelp
This place is so underrated in my opinion. One of the best pizza place here in Oregon. Crust is perfect, zero flop, perfect grease, perfect cheese & excellent service.
google avatar

Yelp
Being from the east coast, I've been looking for good cheesesteaks in Portland for the last 20+ years. Giants did not disappoint. Will need to try the pizza next visit.

Yelp
Ate here twice this week. Literally writing this sitting outside, after our meal because I love this place so much and I didn't want to wait to talk about it! Sorry I was to hungry to bother with pictures. The pizza is awesome! The crust has those amazing little crispy bubbles on the outside, it's soft and crunchy at the same time. It's not too greasy, there's just the right amount of cheese and sauce and it makes the perfect fold! My husband had the cheesesteak works the first time and the strictly meat and cheese the second visit. On our second trip after I finished my enormous slice, I stole his Philly twice because it was freaking amazing! The bread was so soft but had that perfect bit of crunch to it. The steak was tender and super flavorful. The cheese was American authentic melty goodness. I could start drooling right now, typing about it. The cannoli was incredible as well, DO NOT SKIP IT! It is fresh and crispy outside and super decadent yet light in the middle. You can tell the owners and the people who work here put love and soul into their food. Everybody is friendly and smiley. They will deliver the food right to your car while you wait, or they have a couple plastic picnic tables that could probably seat 6-8 people each, to the left. There's also a park directly across the street, you could plop down on the grass with your pizza as well.
google avatar

Paige L.

Yelp
I'm shocked this place has so many good reviews My boyfriend and i order a pizza from here awhile back and we will never return.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Some of the best subs around. The bread is amazing! Pizza feels like it's straight outta NY! Thin and floppy, yet good structure! Simple deliciousness.

Food M.

Yelp
Great pizza and the garlic rolls are so good. We go out of our way to get their food. One family member commented that the pizza was the best he has had in years. I would recommend Giants for some great food.
google avatar

Tessa F.

Yelp
I've been on the hunt for some good New York-style pizza and I think I found it! Online ordering was super easy and the well-lit, giant food truck attached to the grocer was easy to find. There's lots of parking and they also had some tables and umbrellas set up. It was absolutely pouring rain and they were kind enough to offer to bring my order to the car. We had a cheese pizza, salad, and cannoli. The pizza was perfect, combination between chewy and thin and crisp, with just the right balance of cheese and sauce. The salad had lots of fresh veggies and the cannoli was a little too sweet and frosting-like (but still good). I'm excited to go back again and try their other menu items!
google avatar

Tommy T.

Yelp
The best pizza in SE Portland for real... all you need is a taste of one slice of a cheese pizza and that's it. ITS OVER. Rated the best Portland in my opinion. Perfect service and even the cannoli is too crazy to not pass. Protect this place at all cost
google avatar

Cassandra C.

Yelp
We love Giant's!! The garlic knots are my recommendation. The pizzas are huge and made in a NY style with thin crispy crust and very large.
google avatar

Dionisio D.

Yelp
Ok I don't know how you get closer to NY pizza. Also best location if your near lents park and watching a Portland pickles game.
google avatar

Connie C.

Yelp
Fantastic!! Best pizza, garlic rolls, cheesesteak sandwiches and cannolis in the Portland area, friends, this is worth the drive! This is Eugene and Pat's third location where we've followed them and we'd follow them anywhere in the metro area. After a brief pause they reopened in their former Lent's area. On the side of a convenience store is a beautiful bright red custom built trailer...bigger than a traditional food cart that houses 4 pizza ovens and a grill! Honest to goodness authentic foldable NY style pizza, baked with the perfect crust. The fluffy garlic rolls are amazing and served with marinara sauce. They serve a variety of sandwiches, hot and cold, but our favorite is the cheesesteak with the works! This is run by the kindest family who knows you and we always look forward to seeing them! Just go!
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
Genuine, delicious New York style pizza. I also got the garlic rolls based on reviews, but they weren't anything special. Friendly service and was ready when promised.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
Best pizza in all of Portland! Got the 18 inch with extra cheese and pepperoni. The crust is thin and soft. Enjoyed it very much.

Ilsa S.

Yelp
I drove 1/2 hour to this food truck because I love NY pizza and this place is highly rated. Whom ever is rating this place has never had pizza before. The bread for the garlic roll was so stale I threw it out. The pizza crust was baked to a crisp on the outer edge. There was hardly any topping on it and what was there was in a clump in the middle.
google avatar

Steve V.

Yelp
I loved them when they were at 82nd and Holgate, love them even more now that they are on 92nd and Holgate! Very fresh ingredients and a tasty crust that ranks up there as a top tier crust in town. The owners are very helpful and always friendly. Be warned: it can be busy, but the wait is definitely worth it!
google avatar

Mark P.

Yelp
A customer of my partner and her wife recommended this to me. They told him that they were from NYC and that this pizza was so authentically New York that it made them homesick. It's straight up New York style pizza... thin crust and floppy. But in an awesome way! The cheese they use here is a couple grades up than normal mozzarella. It's got a great flavor to it. I got a couple slices just for myself- pizza so hot and fresh anyone would just love it. Service was good. They seemed busy. Ambiance was ok for a food cart.
google avatar

Jerry B.

Yelp
I just wonder how much it cost to have paid for good reviews?. The one and only time I've tried it. It wasn't even mediocre. It was just plain horrible. But then again everybody's taste buds are different, aren't they or are they?.lol

Michael G.

Yelp
Seriously - I am actually upset that I had not discovered this place 12 years ago when I moved to Portland. This is the best NY style pizza I have found yet. It is amazing - and the owners are super nice people. I am 1/2 hr away and will drive here for Pizza without hesitation!
google avatar

Elizabeth Q.

Yelp
Delicious pizza with thin crust, as a NY Pizza should be. I wish they were open on Sundays, as that's the night of the week I prefer not to cook and we most likely are in the mood for pizza, especially if watching football. But I'll take it when I can get it!

Dylan C.

Yelp
Great food. Pretty hard to find a good NY pizza in Portland, but these guys nailed it.
google avatar

Jason A.

Yelp
Proving it once again, this is the best NY style pizza in PDX. Go here! Order by the slice. Don't sleep on the subs either.
google avatar

Aimee R.

Yelp
The chef salad is our favorite! They also have fantastic cannolis, best we've had locally! The staff are extremely friendly and it's easy to order online.
google avatar

Barbara M.

Yelp
My first time visiting. I Will be back!! Absolutely Delicious pizza!! Crispy thin crust, delicious pepperoni and cheese pizza slices. So Good!!

Adrian A.

Yelp
Cheese Pizza is just like a NY pizza if you've tasted a real NY slice in NY a city.....
google avatar

April J.

Yelp
The club is my favorite, and the truffle fries. Great pricing and nice servings. Conveniently next to a corner store too.

Noelle S.

Yelp
Always the best food and the best people who own it. Keep supporting this local family!!! We've had different pizzas, garlic knots, salads , Italian subs! Yummm! Phillies and meatball subs over several trips and have NEVER been disappointed. Plus their location is super convenient. Easy parking, a mini market next door for beer or whatever and a park across the street for a total Al fresco meal ( assuming it isn't, well, you know ~ Portland ).
google avatar

Samm B.

Yelp
New York expats, you can find real pizza in Portland! Right here, at their food truck. Brooklyn-trained. No cheddar cheese on the pizza. Get it well done. And there's real calzone! Not a slice of pizza encased in pizza dough. I received that once when I ordered calzone. Truly a shock. Just the delicious purity of melted cheese enveloped in baked pizza dough. I can't speak for the meat menu items. Only complaint? They're not open on Sundays. But they are open 6 days a week and everyone deserves a day off.
google avatar

Jacob W.

Yelp
I have always driven by but finally made the time to stop in. Giants has some delicious food. Their garlic knot/bread thing was the perfect "side" for my 12" sandwich. Do I have pictures of anything I ate? No. I was very hungry and devoured it all with haste. That being said, enjoy this picture with a birdie above the food truck that I took while waiting a few minutes for the sub and knots. Overall great experience.

Jerry R.

Yelp
This place is my go to, cheese Pizza and the Italian with spicy bacon is amazing. Very friendly and quick service.
google avatar

Vuong T.

Yelp
I was looking for some local pizza places and came across this on Yelp. Looked at the menu and had to go for the cheesesteak. I ordered ahead and it took less than 10 min. I drove over there and its this red food truck/trailer on the side of Lents grocery and deli. The 12" cheesesteak is amazing but I think I could've just done the 6" with a side of chips and would've been good for lunch. Now I'm totally over stuffed. But the bread was toasted on the outside and was nice and chewy. The flavor was amazing as well and can get a little messy with the juices dripping a bit. I would highly recommend and definitely coming back to try the meatball!
google avatar

Del K.

Yelp
My partner got a craving for a Stromboli and so the search began. In typical Yelp fashion, many options where listed but as we verified each menu we became increasingly disheartened by the lack of Stromboli on yet another menu. Almost ready to give up, we came across Giants NY Pizza & Subs and low and behold (enter victory chorus) they had Stromboli. Not only that, you get to customize what is inside! We made our way to this unimposing solo food cart and were greeted by friendly folks who were happy to take our order. One Tip: Call ahead! They make everything to order and fresh so the wait time from order to pick up takes quite a bit but is totally worth it. We had no idea the Giant in their name would reflect the size of their Stromboli. We ordered two and ended up sharing one just fine. We also Got the garlic rolls and a cannoli. The smells, the tastes, and every bite of food was truly a food orgasm! We will absolutely be back and can't wait to try their pizza options next.
google avatar

Brittany H.

Yelp
One of the best pizzas I've ever had. It was fresh and cooked perfectly. My boyfriend and I ate in the car and the owner came out to check on us and see if we needed napkins. 10/10 We shared a 12 inch and mozzarella sticks, and it was more than enough food.

Angel G.

Yelp
Great New York pizza, better than New York! Always consistent and really flavorful... one of a kind!
google avatar

Elisha B.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful pizza!!! I've tried a ton of Portland pizza places and this by far is the best NYC style pizza! Very nice people and I would definitely recommend a slice or a whole pie!
google avatar

Kelley B.

Yelp
First time here and we are so happy we tried it! Delicious pizza! The crust is amazing! Just what we were looking for! Super friendly staff! The ingredients taste so fresh, this is not your average Pizza! This will definitely be our new go to pizza spot!!

Vida S.

Yelp
Moved from NYC and I've been wanting some NYC pizza. I'm soooooo glad I found this spot. The pizza and food is delicious! If you want authentic pizza then this is the spot!
google avatar

Brandon E.

Yelp
Giants is delicious. I'm not from the east coast, but I imagine this is what an original NY style would taste like. I highly recommend their NY Club sandwich. The staff is friendly, they have a big menu with gluten free options, and they have pizza by the slice. They're across the street from Lents park, so it's a convenient place to enjoy you lunch. The prices are what you'd expect in Portland, but they are definitely affordable. Do yourself a favor and get a pizza and a cannoli.
google avatar

Arlene H.

Yelp
Meatball sub was delicious! Great bread , sauce and flavorful meatballs. Owners were very friendly! After we all ate, the owner gave us a sample of the cheese pizza. We will be back for one of those.

Yelp
Holy crap, where do I begin? I'm feeling too lazy to cook, and I'm too much of a slob to clean, so we decided to get a meal via grubhub. Eating NY style pizza, is a religious experience, and an art form for me. At least once in a lifetime, Everyone must experience the ritual of eating a really good NY style slice - and It's not a good slice, if you're unable to fold a slice of pepperoni in half, then pause, for one half of a second, to watch the orange, artery-clogging grease, pool in the fold of the pizza. You must then dip this folded slice into a pile of parm, to soak up the grease before you even dream about putting it in your mouth. (Pausing a moment to drool uncontrollably). Giant's pizza is probably THE best pizza I have ever had, in my almost 50 years here on Earth. You may not like this pizza if you like your crust to be thicker than a hoagie, but if you are looking to open your mind, to PERFECT NY style crust, Giants is the place for you. If you can believe it, these guys make perfect pizza with the daily drama and within the confines of a food truck! Yes, A Food Truck! How? I don't know... but it is the only pizza I will ever eat again. Giant's pizza owners: I love you...Thanks for being open for business throughout the wreck that has been 2020! I wish you guys had a Greek salad I could take home, to go with my pie, but as long as you keep making the pizza this good, I'll be back, salad or not. Vegans, and Anti-Glutites: (I'm sorry, IDK if what people with a gluten allergy call themselves, as a collective?) According to the menu, they welcome you, with gluten-free crust, and Vegan pie. Haven't tried a vegan pizza, but I bet it is just as good, if not better than what I have been eating. I just ate Giants again three days ago, and my finger is itching to open my grub hub app to order more.
