My favorite spot to play pool. The bartenders are nice and drinks are great. The atmosphere is always fun and energetic. Several players with good skill level show up here. Weekends get fairly crowded and fun. The pool tables are really nice. They have Diamond brand tables, 8 ft, which they maintain fairly nicely.

We came to it because the Golden Boy Pizza doesn’t offer drinks. This place is cash only. That is why I only gave 4 stars. Environment is good and service is super. There are multiple options for draft beers. I noticed they are having pool table tournament at this moment.

Fantastic find, best tasting beer, great selection too. Served by Ronnie who took time to chat and look after everyone. We look forward to going again soon.

They don't serve food. This is a North Beach bar with great history, great staff, and a great place to play bar pool.

We were told we had to visit this place from a nice gentleman we met in Prescott AZ. It is friendly local bar with a very friendly bar tender (Paulie) and customers. Within minutes of sitting down at the bar Pauly, Mike and others introduced themselves and were sure to check if we wanted to interact with them. This is a neighborhood bar with a few pool tables that has been around for a while, nothing fancy. There was no food but was told we could bring in some from any of the many restaurants near by. Had a great time and wish we could have stayed longer for more jokes and drinks.

This bar has an old school feel to it and the gorgeous North Beach next door to Golden Boy Pizza. Orla was such a friendly bartender. The regulars we're welcoming to me. They also have a pool table. I stopped in while I was on a motorcycle ride and don't regret doing so. Go in for a drink.

At least once a year, my cousins, friends and I visit Gino and Carlo for beers and cocktails. We've drive from Sacramento and we visit Tadich Grill for a quick bowl of clam chowder before we make our way to Gino and Carlo. We've been visiting Gino and Carlo for the last 15 years and we have not had one disappointing experience. The prices for drinks are reasonable within the times we live in. The bar tenders are always friendly and quick with short conversations. There's always a good pool game to watch or play a friendly game. On one occasion, we came in on a Thursday and they had free food available for the patrons. The pasta they had was great and the patrons were very friendly. The regulars treat us like long lost cousins. After they find out where we are from, good conversations start up and drinks continue to come. I highly recommend Gino and Carlo as a bar to visit every time you're in North Beach. They are located next to Golden Boy pizza.

Stopped into this place to get a drink and play some card games with my friends one a Saturday afternoon! We loved it so much we stayed for hours. They were playing the Olympics and got a crowd going! The ambience was so comforting and has quickly become one of our favorite places to go in a group setting.

How do you own a bar and not know what a Jameson "over" is? The bartender is this kid who apparently also owns the bar and he's too busy hitting on women customers (and pouring them free drinks) to actually bartend. And again, dude has no idea how to make a drink. Place is also dirty and a bunch of cops get drunk here and drive home, if that tells you anything. There are way better bars on the block and in North Beach in general. Won't be coming back to Gino and Carlo's lame lounge.

Super nice door guy and bartenders. Crowd had a good mix of people. Very nice people and they got a clean restroom.

One of the last classics! If you want to meet up with crooked cops or do an open-air drug deal, this is your place. The only reason it's still open is the cops are in on it. Have fun!

Had a great time here on a random Saturday evening. Vibe was a bit different than I expected but it was very welcoming. One patron was beyond intoxicated and bothered us a few times which was unfortunate but other than that, this was great. Oh and...CASH ONLY!!! there's only one tiny little sign on the cash machine but it was no where else

Awesome Italian dive bar, well, dive bar in Little Italy. Didn't have any food so can't comment on that but their service was good. I like the vintage registers they use and the pool tables are brand new and look great.

Chill divy bar with good tap and TVs. The best part is order your pizza at Goldenboy and pair the sausage pie with a hef. Amazing.

Brought family visiting to grab pizza next door and while waiting the 17 year old white kid walked in and used the restroom at this bar. I then had to go and asked if I should ask, and he said no, they didn't seem to mind, so I headed in and as I walked by the bar the bartender inquired what I was doing. I said using the restroom and he just continued to be extremely snarky...it's for customers only, did you buy anything. I said no, and walked out. As I was exiting, without arguing, he continued on to his customers, loudly saying: if you would have just asked. Now, if your restroom is for customers only that's fine, but you don't need to be a d*ck about it. Also, be consistent...why was I treated in that manner and the young white man not? Is it because I'm an Asian woman? OR are you just finicky with when you choose to be a d*ck...either way...he was a d*ck, unprofessional, and childish.

I love Gino & Carlo lounge for many reasons but mostly because this place is a great little neighborhood bar that's always full of regulars. Anytime you venture into this place it's packed with local patrons who are die hard north beachers and let's be honest, mostly Italian. The drinks are super reasonable and my standard "dive bar" order is a boilermaker. That usually includes so form of cheap domestic lager and a fernet. The combo here will run ya about 12 bucks. Not bad. It much else to report other than this place is an institution. It's been in the family for generations and I'm happy to support it when in the neighborhood.

Best dam Bar in the world. G&C till i die. The 6am crowd is full of legends. Great bartenders. Stiff drinks with generous pours. Real pool players.

Haven't left a review in forever, but felt the need after my most recent visit last weekend. SINCE WHEN DID THEY START SERVINGS TONY'S?! G&Cs has always been my fav neighborhood spot, the bartenders working on the weekends are top notch, super friendly, and now I can order pizza without waiting in that godforsaken line next door. So smart of them to start doing this, I'll definitely be coming here more for my pizza nightcaps, thank you!!

Totally appalled. I order two identical drinks. SF classics. Negronis. Politely. The bartender, perhaps as a personal insult to me (for which I wonder about how I deserved such disparagement) filled a shaker with ice, poured a few drops of booze, and gave me two cups with no more than a thimble-full in each. What happened? For many years, this was the place of excellent drinks. Word on the street was that this was the place for best martinis and mixed drinks. Used to be known for good well liquor, fine mixes, and generous pours. Why intentionally destroy a legend? Baffling.

Host wil definitely make your comfortable. Music on point and drinks are great! Golden boy pizza right next door!

Just fantastic people and a great vibe. They let us come squat at the bar and eat pizza from Golden Boy (next door) - now that's amazing! All that said, a nice bar and good beer choices. It's really hard to find Spaten on tap, and they have it! Good seating options, decent music, and the staff rules. Come on by!

This place is a hidden gem found right outside the heart of San Francisco. An Italian style bar right next to a really good pizza joint. The bartender Paul is so cool. His drinks are world famous. He will also tell you other spots to hit, no need to use google. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted like family. Great place to shoot some pool or watch the Niners games. Definitely coming back again, and if you're in San Francisco you need to give it a try!

My boyfriend just stopped in for a drink before going home this evening. As we sat and waited to be served, I overheard the bartender saying to a customer, " If you don't have the money, don't come in here!" I was so shocked that the bartender talked so badly about a customer. Then, we were next to be waited on by this very unhappy bartender, whom I now know was one of the owners. The owners are Ronnie, Frank, and Marco. I believe the rude one who we encountered was Ronnie. He took our drink order like he was doing a big favor to us. There are so many bars and restaurants in this area, and for him to have an attitude like that was unbelievable! When he got us our drinks, he said cash only. I stated that shouldn't you not have a sign that states that. He said in a very mean and sarcastic voice, "Okay, I will just put one up just for you!" He told us where to locate the ATM and just continued to ignore us and talk badly about other customers. I love SF and have lived here for many years, and to go into a little bar and be so disrespected by a bunch of young punks is completely despicable to me. These young men need to be taught some manners and get that little silver spoon out of their filthy mouths.

Gray place to just hang with a friend and have a beer and play pool. Service was great too.

I'm a 75 year old man who has been visiting Gino & Carlo's since the 1970s. Tonight, 4/22/23, I brought a friend there for one glass of wine on a balmy Saturday night and was enjoying his company and other customers in the establishment for 30 minutes or so when I went to the men's room. As I was in a private stall taking s pee, a staff member who was mopping the floor yelled at me to get out of the bathroom so he could mop. I replyed through the door, "I'm a customer taking a pee, please leave me alone!" When I left the bath a minute later on the way to the bar to rejoin my friend he accosted me with a threatening physical encounter and verbal abuse. I immediately went to the bar and protested this abuse to the bartender and owner who gave me no respect or apology when I told them I was a long time client who had been verbally abused while in the bathroom by a staff member. I told my friend who was at the bar next to my empty bar stool, " I've got to leave before this gets any worse." As I made my way to the door the staff member/bouncer followed me with verbal insults and then physically threw me out of the door. He then remained outside the bar insulting me. My friend, still in the bar protested to the owner and bartender that the verbal and physical abuse of his friend by their staff was intolerable, especially to a 40 year customer who had brought his friend there for one glass of wine As we walked away, my friend suggested I go to the police station on Vallejo St. and file a complaint. I have decided to decline and walk away from this unfortunate incident which I have never had before. I am shocked and emotionally distraught by this. I will never again visit Gino & Carlos in North Beach. It's become a hateful place, not the friendly neighborhood bar that I used to visit for so many years.

Most big cities are divided up into unique neighborhoods. Locals in that neighborhood gather at their nearby watering hole. Mine happens to be in Noe Valley. I walk in and everyone says hello. I get 15% off of my tab and I get to drink for free on New Year's Eve. I am not a "local" at this dive.

Damn, My absolute favorite bar in SF, maybe the west coast! The vibe is amazing, the bartenders are incredible. A true SF landmark and North Beach delight. Hi-light of my visits to SF every time!

This is one of the oldest bar in North Beach. Built in 1942, this bar is a favorite hangout for the old-school and newer generation Italians. The bar has 15 beers on tap with family-members bartending & serving, cool music, a pair of billiard tables and entertaining locals with a ton of priceless and nostalgic stories of North Beach of the yester-years. Where North Beach once was the epicenter for the Italians. I love to hear stories of old North Beach. But unfortunately, North Beach is beginning to be an area for the younger generation who could care less about the past and care about getting drunk immediately. With the bar's pair of of billiard tables, every Mondays and Wednesdays the bar has a pool tournament. One of my co-worker's best friend, who is also a regular Gino and Carlos patron, is one of 64 players involve in the tournament. I was there earlier tonight and she was one of eight remaining hustlers. Yes, she is that good. The entrance fee is $25.00 and the grand prize is a pair of airplane tickets to Las Vegas with hotel and car rental included. That's is not bad for $25.00 for the entrance fee, but you have to be a really good pool-shark. While she was playing, at the bar I ordered a Sea Breeze. For $4.00 the cocktail comprised with parts cranberry juice, grapefruit juice and vodka. Frank, one of the family members and bartender, used Ketel-one Vodka for my cocktail and he didn't skimp on the higher-end vodka either. One sip of the potent cocktail has changed my mood completely. I was sipping on my cocktail and sadly saw my co-worker's friend lost and being eliminated from the tournament. Maybe I jinxed her. I hope not. " Hey, I'm just being my Joe Cool-self and chatting to and listening with the regulars!" Other the priceless stories of the neighborhood, I was told that the bar has great lunch specials on Thursdays. With a slice of Prime-rib or Petrale sole with sides of salad and pasta and a glass of wine for $20.00. If I comeback during the midday, I might try that one day. I hear stories about famous personalities dominating North Beach. I hope one day that the newer generation will hear stories from Joe Cool.

four of us went on Sunday we ordered 4 beers and tomato juice my brother in-law paid about 20 minutes later after we got pizza from next door we ordered the same exact thing but got charged $4 dollars more??

My partner and I have been coming to this bar for years. NEVER A PROBLEM EVER. We've met some great people and have never felt unwelcome.

Just a classic neighborhood bar. Come here before or after your trip to golden boy/sotto mare, etc. Prices are fair. Staff is friendly. Really no complaints.

Stumbled upon this bar by accident. Brent was soo welcoming! mark was off but visiting the bar. He was great too. The bar gave me New York vibes and a very close knit family vibes. Would definitely return!

What exactly makes a bar a great one? Obviously the answer is subjective, which is one reason why I waited so long to write this review. So, let's just remember Ernest Hemingway. And Herb Caen. We all know that Hemingway loved to get his drink on. Did he actually come here? Not sure. But this bar is as vital to North Beach as Hemingway was to literature, cocktails, & tropical locales. First, the hours. G&C is open from 6 to 2, everyday. That's AM. Because greatness should be accessible as close to 24/7 as possible. Second, this is the definition of a neighborhood bar. People that call it a dive bar, complementing it or not, are missing the mark. Come in more than twice, & both you & your drink will be remembered. Before cell phones, it was common & welcome to get phone calls here. And once upon a time, when I lived upstairs, I ran down for coffee cream when I was out...in my bathrobe & wedge slippers. A few times. Thanks Ron, Sherrie, & Silvio. Third, the clientele. Locals? Puh-leez. This is where everyone from North Beachers, fishermen, firemen, cops, service industry, Congressman, & even celebrities rub elbows. Remember Carol Doda? You should. If you're a millennial, google it. This was her joint. We miss you Carol. Finally, the drinks. Short & stiff, something on tap, a mean negroni. Just PLEASE don't order anything along the lines of an appletini for chrisakes. Sure they'll make it, but this is a proud & respectable bar. This bar was (& probably still is) the number one seller of fernet in the country. When in Rome... have a fernet. Now, Herb Caen. The late SF Chronicle columnist himself was well known for loving both North Beach, & a great bar. The Washbag, Moose's, & NB Restaurant were all a regular part of his rotation... along with Gino's. Finally, family. Ownership has always been a partnership & has had its subtractions & additions, but this is still a family run business in every sense. And if you're cool, you'll be treated as such. There's even a monthly luncheon. Antipasto (usually just bread & salami), salad, pasta, entree, bottomless wine. They move the pool tables out & turn it into a bonafide dining room. Check out the upcoming menu on the board above the bar, & buy a ticket. $30. It used to be every 2 weeks, & Rachel & I were there every 2 weeks. Still the best deal in SF. Thank you G&C. A great bar. 5 stars.

Old school San Francisco bar. Nothing fancy, great location in North Beach. But I don't know why are they charging six dollars for a can of beer? This is a dive bar, a can of beer is $4 maximum. Really a turn off to rip people off like that. Original Joe's, nicer place- $5. Showdown, nice place-$4. Chief Sullivan's -$5. And those are bottles. A friend had told me they had raised the prices and he stopped going there but I was in the area for the soccer game. Ouch.

I rarely leave reviews, but I had to share my experience. I'm not sure if the whole it's cool to have a d*** bouncer is the vibe this place is going for, cause if not, then you might need to change your guy. This man is rude without the need to. I was just trying to get in and may have not taken off my mask fast enough for him, but I was in the process. You would think in the middle of a pandemic the last thing that would be an issue is to be slow to take off your mask as opposed to those out there not trying to even wear one. All I'm saying is patience and kindness goes a long way and it's lacking here.

Met some old colleagues here before grabbing dinner - what a cool little place. Total local hangout that warmly welcomes any outsiders like us (and I'm sure they knew it) with open arms and friendly smiles. It also next door to one of the best ciopino houses in all of San Fran...Sotto Mare.

Now folks this place is cash only so lay a Benjamin down upon the bar and order drinks until it runs out. A great place to watch a game or play some pool with some fat old fucks. One of SF's greatest bars.

Became my go-to during a recent visit to SF. Classic neighborhood spot with great people on both sides of the bar. Super friendly and hospitable with an awesome vibe.

There is no better place to get have a few than here. Why you ask? Golden Boy pizza shares a wall with this bar. I really like the crowds here. Don't expect any trouble - well behaved when I have been. For sure it is considered a neighborhood dive bar but the prices are the best around. It is great for what it is. Make friends with your neighbors at the bar. A few locals perhaps that recognize a good deal and some tourists that stumbled here almost on accident. On a Saturday night it gets full but and since it isn't that big a place in the first place it fills up fast. There are a couple more bars a few steps away which is a plus. Maybe you get tired of the people in one... you can just move to the next.

So perhaps I'm being a little too harsh on Gino & Carlo, as I DID stop in for the first time during the North Beach Festival, during which the bar was, I'm sure, much more crowded than it usually is at 1pm on a Saturday. That said, nothing about the bar impressed me. After waiting kind of a long time at the bar's designated ordering spot, I was greeted by a relatively unfriendly bartender. The beer menu said they had Fat Tire on tap. So I ordered one. Oh, nope, turns out they changed out some of their regular beers for the Festival. So no Fat Tire. Hmm. I saw a bottle of Stoli Blueberry, so I ordered a Stoli Blueberry and Tonic. Turns out they were out of Stoli Blueberry. I ordered my friend a Stoli Raspberry and Cranberry. But they were out of Stoli Raspberry. I ended up with a straight vodka tonic; he had a vodka cranberry. Each drink was $6 and came in a pathetically small clear PLASTIC cup. Apparently they didn't feel like washing actual glasses for the festival. Or maybe we just didn't warrant actual glass, as I did see some real glasses on the bar. The drinks were fine, but for the price, I felt they were too small by a half and mine certainly wasn't strong enough. I understand that this is most likely a bar where people come to chill out and many customers are regulars (and probably a lot older than me), and that the festival causes an influx of non-regulars, but shit. Come on. Also, my friend was not impressed with what he saw on their internet jukebox, and a bar with bad music is...well, it's just not where I want to spend my money. I will probably go back eventually, more because I want to go to a couple other bars in the area and because I think Gino & Carlo's sign warrants a second visit, but if next time my experience isn't exponentially better than the first, this bar will definitely be on my "pass" list. The rundown wooden interior was half-awesome and half-trashy, and I guess I need another experience at this place to make a final judgment.

Last time i was here, on the board it was written "thank you for 45 years of service Frank (? not sure if im remembering the name right)" but if a guy working at bar for 45 years is not a testimony to quality - i just dont know what it is. This place is a solid North Beach establishment, some would call it a dive i call it Gino and Carlo ah?

One of the last great bastions of NB. Great bartenders carrying on a 70-year Tradition. The ownership team changes from year to year but the tradition remains. From Rossi's to Alioto's Gino and Caro's is the Italian heart of SF. Go for sports stay for the best bartenders and the savviest group of regulars in town. Salut!
